Erma J. Niehues

Erma J. Niehues, 73, Goff, KS, died Thursday evening, February 12, 2004, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca, KS. She had been in ill health for several years.
She was born September 19, 1930, on a farm southeast of Kelly, KS, the daughter of Bernard Sr. and Mary Knipper Niehues. She was the youngest in a family of 15 children. She grew up there, attended St. Bede’s Grade School, and graduated from Kelly High School in 1948. Erma helped on the family farm, which included a dairy. Later she helped care for her elderly parents and continued to make her home with her brother, George, and sister, Anna.
She was a member of St. Bede’s Church and the St. Ann’s Altar Society at the church. Erma enjoyed embroidery and playing cards with family and friends.
Survivors are four brothers, George, of the home, Albert Niehues and Edwin Niehues, both of Goff, and Robert Niehues, Sr. of Seneca; five sisters, Sr. M. Richardis, O.S.B. of Atchison, Margaret Boeckman of Onaga, Antionette Hermesch of Seneca, Josepha Altenhofen of Kelly, and Evelyn Hutfles of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard “Ben” Niehues, Jr. and John J. Niehues and three sisters, Agnes Niehues, an infant, Alma Haverkamp, and Anna M. Niehues.
The mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:30 A.M. Monday at St. Bede’s Church at Kelly. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home on Sunday at 2 and 7 P.M.
Memorials may be given for St. Bede’sCemeteryand sent in care of the family.

George F. Niehues

George F. Niehues, 76, Goff, died early Saturday morning, March 27, 2004, at a Centralia care home.
He was born November 12, 1927, on a farm southeast of Kelly, the son of Bernard Sr. and Mary Knipper Niehues. He grew up there, attended St. Bede’s School and helped on the family farm. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in the early 1950s, serving as a cook stateside for about two years before returning to the farm.
George was a farmer and a stockman on the family homestead. He helped care for his elderly parents. His sisters, Anna and Erma, also lived and worked on the homestead. Anna preceded him in death on April 30, 2001, and Erma died February 12, 2004.
George was a member of St. Bede’s Church at Kelly, the St. Joseph Society, and the Knights of Columbus #1769 at Seneca, where he was a member for over 50 years. He enjoyed restoring a John Deere tractor. His dog, Fido, was his constant companion.
Survivors are three brothers, Albert Niehues and Edwin Niehues, both of Goff, and Robert Niehues of Seneca; five sisters, Sr. M. Richardis, O.S.B. of Atchison, Margaret Boeckman of Onaga, Antoinette Hermesch of Seneca, Josepha Altenhofen of Kelly and Evelyn Hutfles of Topeka.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard “Ben” Niehues, Jr. and John J. Niehues; four sisters, Agnes Niehues, an infant, Alma Haverkamp, Anna and Erma.

Memorials may be given for St. Bede’s Cemetery, and sent in care of the family.

Herbert F. Niehues

Herbert F. Niehues, 83, of rural Corning, Kansas, died Monday, June 26, 2000, shortly after arrival at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. He had diabetes and complications of the disease caused his failing health.
He was born January 6, 1917, on a farm southeast of Kelly, the son of Frank and Elizabeth Steinlage Niehues. He grew up there, attended St. Bede's School at Kelly, and helped on the family farm. When he was nineteen years old, he moved to West Union, Iowa, where he worked for his Uncle Tony Steinlage on his farm. He returned to Kelly in 1940 and farmed in the area.
On May 8, 1951, he married Regina "Jean" Neusch at St. Francis, Texas. They farmed for many years at their present farm north of Corning. She survives of the home.
He was a member of St. Bede's Church, the St. Joseph Sodality, and served on the board at the church in Kelly. He was a 50-year, lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus at Seneca. He was a Nemaha County Commissioner from 1982 to 1988. He served on the District #442 School Board during the consolidation of the high school, the Board of the Nemaha County Historical Society, the Nemaha County Co-op Board, the Illinois Township Board, and the NECAP Board. He had served as the president of the Nemaha County Farmer's Union. He was the Illinois Township Democratic Committeeman for many years.
Survivors besides his wife, Regina "Jean" of the home are five sons, Frank Niehues, Leo Niehues, and Roy Niehues all of Corning, Galen Niehues of Seneca, and Gary Niehues of Lincoln, NE; two daughters, Catherine Williams of Topeka and Theresa Sudbeck of Seneca; a brother Ferdinand Niehues of Goff; five sisters, Norbertine Miller and Frances Rottinghaus both of Seneca, Bernadine Niehues and Rita Niehues both of Goff, Florence Hermesch of Meriden, KS; and 16 grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Friday at St. Bede's Church at Kelly. The burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Wednesday at 7 P.M. and on Thursday at 2 P.M. and at 7 P.M.
Memorial contributions may be given for St. Bede's Church, the Nemaha County Training Center or Nemaha County Historical Society and sent in care of the family.

Joseph G. "Joe" Niehues, Jr.

Joseph G. "Joe" Niehues, Jr., 18 of Corning, KS, died suddenly at the scene of a one-car accident south of Corning on Wednesday, January 1, 2003.
He was born February 25, 1984, at Seneca, KS, the son of Joseph G. and Judy Wempe Niehues. He grew up on the family farm southwest of Corning. He graduated from Unified District #380 Grade School and in 2002 from Centralia High School. Joe played high school football, and was active in other sports including baseball and basketball when he was younger. He was named a Regent Scholar and received an academic scholarship to the University of Kansas. He was currently a freshman student in mechanical engineering. He helped on the family farm, and had also worked in Seneca at Fort Markley and as a press operator at CR Industries.
Joe was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Corning. During high school he was a member of Future Farmers of America (FFA).
Survivors are his parents, Joe and Judy Niehues of Corning; and his grandparents, Paul and Rita Wempe of Seneca.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10 AM Saturday, January 4, 2003, at St. Patrick's Church in Corning. The burial will be in the church cemetery. He will lie in state after 3 PM Thursday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Rosaries will be prayed at the funeral home on Thursday at 8 PM, and at St. Patrick's Church on Friday at 2 and 7 PM.
Memorials may be given for St. Patrick's Church or for a scholarship at Centralia High School and sent in care of the family.

Regina C. "Jean" Niehues

Regina Cecelia "Jean" Niehues, 88, of Corning, KS, died Saturday, December 31, 2011, with her family at her side, at her home southwest of Kelly.
Jean was born on January 25, 1923 to Henry and Mary Catherine Detten Neusch in Amarillo, TX. She attended Janes and Materson country schools and St. Francis Parochial School.
On May 8, 1951, she married Herbert F. Niehues in St. Francis, TX. They farmed for many years north of Corning and enjoyed 49 years of marriage before Herbert’s death on June 26, 2000.
She was a member of St. Bede's Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society in Kelly.
Survivors are five sons, Frank (Janell) Niehues, Leo Niehues, and Roy (Lynn) Niehues, all of Corning, Galen (Brenda) Niehues and Gary (Brenda) Niehues, both of Seneca; two daughters, Catherine (Danney) Williams of Topeka and Theresa (Eldon) Sudbeck of Seneca; two brothers, Francis Neusch of Panhandle, TX and Cyril Neusch of Amarillo, TX; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Carson John Niehues; and sisters, Angela Neusch, Rose Walden and Anne Steinlage.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM Tuesday, January 3, at St. Bede's Church at Kelly. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Monday, January 2, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorial contributions may be given in Jean’s memory for Nemaha County Home Health, St. Bede’s Church in Kelly, or Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca.

Robert J. Niehues, Sr.

Robert J. Niehues, Sr., 87, of Seneca, KS, died early afternoon, September 9, 2010, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
Robert was born on June 7, 1923 on the family homestead southeast of Kelly, KS, the son of Bernard, and Mary Knipper Niehues Sr. He attended St. Bede’s School at Kelly and helped on the family farm. He later entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and was discharged in 1945.
On April 6, 1948, he married Mary A. Rennenger at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict. After their marriage they lived east of Kelly for three years, then bought a farm near Wetmore where they lived until 1997, when they retired and moved to Seneca.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Society in Seneca. Robert was a former member of St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore; and served on the St. James church council. He enjoyed a good card game, his cattle, and hunting and fishing.
He is survived by Mary, his wife of 62 years, of Seneca; two sons, Robert J. Niehues Jr. of Seneca and Stephen Niehues of Topeka; two daughters, Wilma Korte and Julie Rottinghaus, both of Seneca; a brother, Edwin Niehues of Goff; three sisters, Antoinette Hermesch of Seneca, Josepha Altenhofen of Lincoln and Evelyn Hutfles of Topeka; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyrone Korte on September 11, 2007; brothers, Albert, George, Bernard Jr. and John J. Niehues; sisters, Sr. Richardis, O.S.B., Agnes Niehues, Anna Niehues, Alma Haverkamp, Margaret Boeckman and Erma Niehues.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM Monday, September 13, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in St. Bede’scemeteryin Kelly, with military honors by the Seneca VFW and American Legion. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Sunday, September 12, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given in Robert’s memory for Sts. Peter & Paul or Nemaha Valley Community Hospital, and sent in care of the family.

Genevieve A. Nolte

Genevieve A. "Genny" Nolte, 74, of Seneca, Kansas, formerly of Baileyville, Kansas, died Friday, February 15, 2002, at Country View Estates Care Home in Seneca. She had been a resident there since December of 2001 and suffered with scleroderma and arthritis for many years.
She was born December 9, 1927, on a farm north of Seneca, the daughter of Frank A. and Augusta Droge Schmitz. She graduated from St. Mary's Grade School in 1941 and from St. Benedict High School in 1945, both in St. Benedict, Kansas.
On February 11, 1950, she married Sylvester J. "Whitey" Nolte at St. Mary's Church at St. Benedict, Kansas. They lived in the Baileyville area until October of 2000 when they moved to Seneca. Her husband, Whitey, survives of Seneca. Genny was employed at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital at Seneca in the housekeeping and dietary departments for 25 years. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and St. Ann's Altar Society at the church in Baileyville and the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital Guild and the Earl W. Taylor Post # 21 of the American Legion Auxiliary both at Seneca.
Survivors besides her husband are four sons, Dan Nolte of Goddard, Kansas, Don Nolte of Beattie, Kansas, Tom Nolte of Sabetha, Kansas, Jerry Nolte of Seneca, Kansas; two daughters, Caroline Kramer of Axtell, Kansas and Melanie Lierz of Seneca; two brothers, Raymond Schmitz of Seneca and Leon Schmitz of Baileyville; a sister, Sr. Melita Schmitz of Seneca; 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stacey Nolte on October 23 1973, and two brothers, Gerald Schmitz in 1952 and Edwin Schmitz in 1981.
The mass of Christian burial will be 11 A.M. Monday, February 18, 2002, at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Sunday at 2 and 7 P.M. where she will lie in state after 3 P.M. Saturday. The burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeremy Nolte, Rodney Nolte, Shane Kramer, Randy Lierz, Rick Nolte, Joe Nolte, Justin Nolte, and Travis Kramer.
Memorials may be given for Sacred HeartCemeteryor the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital and sent in care of the family.
