William G. "Bill" Noud
William G. "Bill" Noud, 58, of Lawrence, Kansas, died after midnight, August 26, 2002, at Eastridge Care Home in Centralia, KS.
He was born June 13, 1944, on a farm north of Lillis, Kansas, the son of Michael W. "Mick" and Margaret S. Adams Noud. He attended Lillis Grade School at Lillis and graduated from Frankfort High School in Frankfort, Kansas, in 1962. In the fall of 1962 he began studies at the University of Kansas, where he received a degree in Organ and Church Music. He lived in San Francisco for several years where he was an organist for St. Mary's Cathedral and worked as a buyer for Hastings Clothing Company.
He later moved to New Jersey and earned a graduate degree in music in 1980 at Westminster College at Princeton. He was a member of the college choir. In 1980 he returned to live in Lawrence, Kansas, where he played the carillon at KU and was the organist at Our Lady of Good Council Church in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence, and was organist for the St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Kansas City. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists at Lawrence, the American Choral Director's Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity of Terra Haute, Indiana. Bill had traveled throughout Europe including Russia and the Slavic countries and was especially interested in the cathedrals.
Survivors are three brothers, Thomas Noud of New Brighton, Minnesota, Michael Noud of Lillis, Kansas, and Patrick Noud of Herndon, Virginia; two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Keating of Lillis and Thomasene Weissbeck of Topeka.
A memorial mass will be offered at St. Joseph's Church in Lillis, Kansas on Saturday morning, September 7, 2002. The time will be announced later. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph'sCemeteryfollowing the mass. Inurnment will be in St. JosephCemeteryat Lillis.

Mildred C. Nusbaum
Mildred C. Nusbaum, 95, of Seneca, KS, died Thursday, September 28, 2000, at the Country View Estate Care Home in Seneca. She had been a resident there since February of 1996.
She was born May 6, 1905, in Pawnee County, Nebraska, the daughter of Rudolph and Rosine Boehmer Siske. She grew up on the family farm, attended Gravel High, a rural grade school south of Pawnee City, Nebraska, and graduated from the Pawnee City High School in 1923.
On August 25, 1931, she married
D.I. "Dutch" Nusbaum at Frieden's Church north of Bern, KS. He died July 2, 1985.They lived in Bern, and from 1934 through 1950 they operated Nusbaum's Produce. They bought and sold cream, eggs and chickens which were sold mostly to the Falls City Creamery. In 1953 they moved to Prairie Village, Kansas where Mildred worked at the Belinger Elementary School as the head cook in the lunch program for nine years. She also had worked at a bakery. In 1971 they retired and moved to Seneca.
She was a member of the Bern United Methodist Church at Bern, Kansas, and the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital Guild in Seneca.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 A.M. Saturday at the United Methodist Church at Bern. She will lie in state at the church for one hour preceding the services. The burial will be in the Bern Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 7 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca where Mrs. Nusbaum will lie in state after 8:30 A.M. Friday.
Memorials may be given for the Bern United Methodist Church or the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital.
James B. O'Connor
Judge James B. O’Connor, 60, of Seneca, died Friday morning, January 4, 2008 at his home.
Jim was born September 3, 1947, the son of Bernard C. “Pete” and Kathleen M. Brinker O’Connor. He grew up on a farm near Centralia and graduated from Centralia High School.
On June 1, 1968, he married
Lana Holthaus at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. The couple had been married
for 39 years, and raised two children, Judd and Amy.
In 1968 Jim opened a babershop, then began working for the Seneca Police Department in 1973. He served as Police Chief from June 1975 to October 1977. He also was an E.M.T for the City, and was Chief of the Ambulance Service until 1977. In November 1986 he was elected as District Magistrate Judge. He commenced serving on January 12, 1987 and was certified by the Kansas Supreme Court on May 18, 1987. His recent reelection in November 2006 gave him over 20 years of service as a District Magistrate Judge. In addition, he was appointed Municipal Court Judge for the cities of Sabetha, Seneca, Wetmore, Centralia, and Onaga.
As a lifelong resident of Nemaha County, Jim was actively involved in the community. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the Spring Creek Golf Course, the Kansas Municipal Judges’ Association, the District Magistrate Judges’ Association, and was a past Jaycee.
Jim loved his family and cherished every moment they had together. When his children were young, he helped coach their little league and softball teams. He loved outdoors activities, especially fishing and hunting. Jim was also an avid gardener and shared the fruits of his labors with family and friends.
Survivors are his wife Lana of the home; a son, Judd and his wife Jeanne of Lincoln, NE; a daughter, Amy and husband Chase Smith of Topeka; and 5 grandchildren, Lucas, Adam, Kadin, Cooper and Kendal. His sister Sharon O’Connor Schwartz, Tecumseh, KS, also survives him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 am Monday, January 7 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 pm Sunday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials are for Nemaha Valley Community Hospital, and may be sent in care of the family.
Kathleen M. O'Connor
Kathleen O’Connor, 85, Seneca, KS, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Crestview Manor in Seneca.
She was born March 12, 1919, at Seneca, the daughter of August and Mary Weixelman Brinker.
On January 16, 1940, she married
Bernard C. “Pete” O’Connor at St. Patrick’s Church at Corning. They lived and farmed in the Vermillion, Lillis, Frankfort, and Centralia areas and moved to Seneca in 1969. She worked at Crestview Manor for 24 years as a CNA. Her husband, Pete, died March 22, 1996. They had been married
for 56 years at the time of his death.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, St Ann’s Altar Society, and the Seneca Business & Professional Women’s Club. Kathleen enjoyed playing cards with a card club and with her friends.
Survivors are a son, James B. O’Connor, Seneca; a daughter, Sharon O’Connor Schwartz, Tecumseh, KS; a sister, Joan Danforth, Forney, Texas; and four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Brinker, Johnny Brinker, and Lawrence Brinker; and a sister, Lorraine Leonard.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 7 P.M. Tuesday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. She will lie in state at the funeral Home after 8:30 A.M. on Tuesday.
Memorials may be given for Crestview Manor and sent in care of the family.
Alvin R. Olberding
Alvin R. Olberding 76, of Baileyville, died Wednesday evening, December 11, 2002, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. He had been in ill health for several years, and was diagnosed with cancer in October of 2002. His death was due to complications following surgery.
He was born May 30, 1926 on a farm north of Baileyville, the son of Henry F. and Mary J. Runnebaum Olberding. He grew up there, attended the Dewey Country School, and worked on the family farm and other area farms. For many years he helped his dad on the family farm. Alvin was the owner and the operator of Olberding Truck Line from the mid 1950s until the late 1960s. He hauled livestock and grain. He began work for Nemaha County in 1967 where he worked on the Road and Bridge Department driving a gravel truck. He retired in 1991.
On September 13, 1956, he married
Lorene Koelzer at St. Patrick's church in Corning. She survives of the home. They lived north of Baileyville for three years, and moved into Baileyville in 1959.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville.
Survivors besides his wife Lorene are a daughter, Alice Payne of Oneida, KS; a brother, Henry Olberding, Jr. of Beatrice, NE; four sisters, Helen Bevans of Harrisburg, OR, Frances Boltz, Marie Stallbaumer, and Millie Bontrager all of Seneca, KS.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Cyril on February 22, 1980, Aloysius on August 12, 1983, and Leonard on December 27, 1992.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10 A.M. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 2 and 7 P.M. Friday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Emma A. Olberding
Emma A. Olberding, 94, of Rt.1, Seneca, Kansas, in the St. Benedict Community, died early morning on Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Crestview Manor Care Home in Seneca. She was admitted there July 26, 2002.
She was born December 16, 1907, the daughter of Frank and Agnes Runnebaum, on a farm southwest of St. Benedict. She grew up there and attended St. Mary's School at St. Benedict. Emma did domestic work at homes in the area before her marriage.
On April 25, 1939, she married
Albert F. Olberding at St. Mary's Church in St. Benedict. They farmed, raised cattle, and operated a dairy southwest of St. Benedict. Emma continued to live on the farm after her husband, Albert, died on December 8, 1980. Her daughter-in-law, Betty, and her son, Albert, Jr., took care of her during her failing health.
Her memberships include St. Mary's Church and the Altar Society, where she had held offices. Emma kept a large garden and took great pride in giving her home-canned goods to friends and family. She also enjoyed crocheting, bingo, visiting with her friends in person or on the phone, and following her grandchildren in sports.
Survivors include a son, Albert F. Olberding, Jr. of Rt. 1, Seneca; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Olberding on February 27, 1941 and a granddaughter, Mary Ann Olberding on September 27, 1973. Emma was also preceded in death by four brothers, Bernard, Edward Vernice, and Henry Runnebaum and two sisters Marcella Runnebaum and Catherine Tanking.
The mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 A.M. Friday at St. Mary's Church in St. Benedict. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Thursday at 2 P.M. and at 7 P.M. The burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ida W. Olberding
Ida Wanda Olberding, 92, of Seneca, KS, died Thursday, December 15, 2011 at her home.
She was born January 23, 1919, on a farm northwest of Kelly, the daughter of Frederick and Johanna Sudbeck Holthaus. The family relocated to a farm northwest of St. Benedict where she attended school at St. Benedict.
On April 11, 1939, she married
Ben J. Olberding at St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict. As newlyweds the couple lived and farmed southwest of St. Benedict with Ben’s brother. Within two years they built a home and farm buildings a mile west and two miles south of St. Benedict. There they raised a family of six children, kept livestock and ran a dairy.
For many years Ida worked at St. Mary’s School. In April of 1998 Ida and Ben moved to Seneca. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, and had enjoyed 59 years of marriage before Ben’s death on December 8, 1998.
Ida was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church at St. Benedict and St. Ann’s Altar Society. She belonged to several card clubs. She loved to quilt, cook, play cards, garden and do ceramics.
She is survived by her son Elton Olberding of Seneca; four daughters, Juanita Heinen of Eltopia, WA, Wanda Ackor of Colorado Springs, CO, Phyllis McCullough of Pine Dale, WY and Janet Ranieri of Seneca; two sisters, Henrietta Koch of Axtell, and Frances Broxterman of Chicago Heights, IL; 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband Ben, she was preceded in death by her son, Justin Olberding on March 20, 1952; grandsons, Justin Olberding on July 11, 1985 and Nathan Flemming; seven brothers, Alphonse, Aloysius, Edwin, Carl, Raymond, Lawrence and Fred Holthaus; and two sisters, Mary Holthaus and Bertha Weber.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 AM Monday, December 19, at St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Sunday, December 18, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for St. Mary’s Church and Cemetery, and sent in care of the family.
