Jacqueline K "Jackie" Olberding
Jacqueline “Jackie” K. Olberding, 57, of Seneca, lost her valiant fight against cancer on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital.
Jackie was born on July 13, 1957, in Axtell, Kansas to Vaden and Waunita Heideman Allen. Jackie graduated from Nemaha Valley High School in 1975; and went on to earn a Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Kansas in 1979. She taught school for 32 years; eight years at SPPS in Seneca and twenty-four in the Bern/Axtell school district. She was Nemaha County Coordinator for the Kansas Honors Program of KU for 15 years.
Jackie married
Keith C. Olberding on June 2, 1984 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The couple celebrated 30 years of marriage.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society and a member of KNEA Association.
Jackie was preceded in death by her father, Vaden Allen, on May 9, 2006.
She is survived by her husband, Keith, Seneca; two sons, Mark, Overland Park, KS and Drew, Seneca; her mother, Waunita Allen, Seneca; brothers, Tim (Rochelle) Allen, East Lansing, MI, Steve (Jennifer) Allen, Lawrence, KS; a sister, Angie (Clem) Suther, Wamego, KS; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A Prayer Service will be held 2 PM on Friday afternoon and a Rosary will be prayed Friday evening at 7PM both at the Lauer Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church at 1 PM on Saturday, January 3, 2015. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mabel E. Olberding
Mable E. Olberding, 84, of Baileyville, Kansas, died early Wednesday morning, October 17, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.
She was born July 10, 1917, the daughter of Albert and Margaret Breuer Weatherford, in Atchison, Kansas. She grew up there and attended school. Following school, she was employed at the Woolworth Store in Atchison.
On December 27, 1941, she married
Elmer "Bud" Olberding in Atchison, Kansas. She worked for the Hershey Candy Co. while they lived in Hershey, Pennsylvania and later in Watertown, New York. While her husband served in the U.S. Army in Europe, she returned to Atchison and worked in a clothing store. When her husband returned from military service, they lived in Atchison for a year before moving to Baileyville in 1946. She was a full-time homemaker in Baileyville and helped to raise her four grandchildren.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Altar Society and the February Circle both at the church and the Benedictine Oblates in Baileyville.
Survivors are her husband, Elmer "Bud" Olberding of the home in Baileyville; a daughter, Mary Ann Cupp of Kansas City, Kansas; two brothers, Edmond Weatherford of Houston, TX and Lloyd Weatherford of Atchison, KS; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The mass of Christian burial will be 11 A.M. Friday at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 2 P.M. and at 7 P.M. on Thursday, October 18, 2001, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, Kansas.

Robert E. Olberding
Robert E. Olberding, 76, Falls City, NE, formerly of Seneca, KS, died Wednesday December 22, 2004, at the Community Medical Center at Falls City.
He was born January 11, 1928, on a farm southwest of Seneca the son of George F. and Elizabeth Wessel Olberding. Robert attended Diamond School and Sts. Peter & Paul High School. He was a farmer and a stockman on the family farm where he lived and worked with his brother, Raymond. For several years they cared for their aging parents.
On August 5, 2000, he married
Arlene Henke at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They lived in Falls City, and Robert returned often to help on the family farm. After he was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago, he was no longer able to farm.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Falls City and a former member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus #1769 in Seneca. In 1999 Robert was the winner of the Grassland Conservation Award given by the Nemaha County Conservation District and Sharps Brothers Seed Company. The award is given to land owners who do an exceptional job of managing their grasslands. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing cards, and attending dances. Robert was a quiet, gentle person who usually had a smile on his face. He had a very good relationship with his nieces and nephews.
Survivors are his wife, Arlene Henke Olberding of Falls City; a stepson Harlan Henke of St. Joseph, MO; a stepdaughter, Trudy Wilgers of Overland Park, KS; a brother, Raymond Olberding of Seneca; three sisters, Mildred Meyer, Edith Wassenberg, and Irene Heinen, all of Seneca; 5 step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 27, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Falls City, where he will lie in state one hour before the service. The burial will be at 2:30 P.M. Monday in Sts. Peter & PaulCemeteryin Seneca. The rosary will be prayed at 3 and 7 P.M. Sunday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, where he will lie in state after 8:30 A.M. Sunday.

H. John Ornelas
H. John Ornelas, 79, Sabetha, KS, formerly of Seneca, KS, died Friday, February 6, 2004, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha. He had been in ill health for some time and was receiving kidney dialysis.
He was born February 10, 1924, at Kansas City, MO, the son of Sylvester and Mary Linda Gomez Ornelas. He grew up there, attending Guardian Angel School, Westport Junior High School and Ward High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February of 1941 and served as a seaman on the USS Texas. During World War II he spent 3 ˝ years as a gunner on the USS Davidson, a destroyer, and on the USS PCE-845, a minesweeper, in the European theater. He was discharged in January of 1947 from active duty to the Navy Reserves. In 1950 he was recalled into the regular Navy during the Korean Conflict, which began a long stint of active duty. He served at the U.S. Naval Ammunition Depot in Yokosuka, Japan, on the destroyer USS Fisker, at the submarine base at New London, CT, on the destroyer USS Joseph P. Kennedy, and later on the oil tanker USS Caloosahatchee in the Mediterranean Sea. He was discharged in December 1964, after accumulating 20 years active service, plus 4 years in reserve.
In March of 1944, he married
Anna J. Chiantella at Norfolk, VA. They lived in Whitestone, Long Island, NY. They had four children. His wife, Anna, died in 1984. He was also preceded in death by his three sons, Aldo Ornelas in 2003; Anthony Ornelas, who had served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, receiving a purple heart and a bronze star, in 1992; and Jack Ornelas, who died in action in Vietnam in 1969 while serving in the U.S. Marines.
In 1986 he returned to Kansas City. On May 5, 1990, he married
Mary Catherine Stegeman at Redemptorist Catholic Church in Kansas City. They lived in Kansas City until 1997 when they moved to Seneca. They moved to Sabetha in the fall of 1999 so John could be nearby for his dialysis treatments.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict, and a former member of Redemptorist Church, where he served as an usher, the Fleet Reserve Organization in MD, and the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation in Washington D.C.
Survivors are his wife, Mary Catherine, Sabetha; a daughter, Ninetta La Russo of Flemington, NJ; two grandsons and a granddaughter.
Besides his parents, his wife Anna and three sons, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Lara.
The mass of Christian burial will be 11 A.M. Monday at St. Mary’s Church, St. Benedict. The burial will be with full military honors in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home on Sunday at 2 P.M. He will lie in state at the funeral home after 8:30 A.M. Sunday.
Memorials may be given for St. Mary’s Church and sent in care of the family.
Boyd L. Osborne
Boyd L. Osborne, 77, of Seneca, died late Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
He was born on December 29, 1929 at Bigelow, KS, the son of Venton and Agnes Boyd Osborne. Boyd grew up in Irving, KS and graduated from Irving High School in 1948. He entered the U.S. Air Force in May of 1948, retiring in December of 1968. He served in Korea during the war and was assigned duty at Offutt Air Base at the time of his retirement. Following his military service, Boyd worked at Lincoln General Hospital for many years.
Boyd is survived by a sister, Donna Smith of Marysville, KS; and two brothers, Gene of Sherwood, OR and Duane of Seneca. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Hazzard and Norma Akin.
Boyd bequeathed his body to the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
A private service for the family will be held at a later date.
Anna M. Osterhaus
Anna M. Osterhaus, 97, Seneca, KS, died Friday evening, February 3, 2006, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
She was born October 28, 1908, on a farm east of Baileyville, the daughter of August and Mary Macke Huninghake. She attended Sacred Heart School and helped on the family farm. As a young woman, she did domestic work and helped with newborns in people's homes.
On January 10, 1940, she married
Albert G. Osterhaus at Sacred Heart Church. They lived and farmed east of Seneca until 1978 when they moved into Seneca. Her husband, Albert, died suddenly of a heart attack on March 4, 1987. She continued to live in her home in Seneca until health prevented it. In September of 2003, she entered Life Care Center in Seneca.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, and worked for ten years at the Mission Center at the church. Anna especially enjoyed being with her family and made them many afghans. She also liked sewing, crocheting, embroidering, quilting, other handiwork.
Survivors are a son, Gerald B. Osterhaus, and a daughter, Donna Nordhus, both of Seneca; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Herman, Frank, George, Henry, August, Paul, and Joseph Huninghake, and a sister, Elizabeth Osterhaus.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10 AM Tuesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed Monday at 2 and 7 PM at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital and sent in care of the family.
Barbara M. "Bobbie" Osterhaus
Barbara M. "Bobbie" Osterhaus, 81, of Seneca, KS, died Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Crestview Manor care home.
She was born in Seneca on July 23, 1930, the daughter of Omer and Lucille Noll Haug. Bobbie attended Sts. Peter & Paul Schools, graduating from high school in 1948. She then went to work for Nemaha County Co-op in Seneca. For a short time she babysat prior to being employed at Nemaha Valley Hospital as a cook in the dietary department.
On June 27, 1955 she married
Gilbert B. Osterhaus at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. The couple made their home in Seneca where they raised eight children and celebrated 56 years of marriage. Gilbert preceded her in death just 11 days prior, on February 21, 2012.
Bobbie loved to read, create ceramics, play cards, do word puzzles and play scrabble. She enjoyed raising a garden and canning the fruits of her labor for her family.
She is survived by her six sons, Tom Osterhaus of Seneca, Ben Osterhaus of Rio Rancho, NM, Dave Osterhaus of Houston, TX, Dean Osterhaus of Wetmore, Brian Osterhaus and Cory Osterhaus, both of Seneca; two daughters, Marlene Ferguson of Hutchison and Gail Lintner of Cameron, MO; nine sisters, Sister Dominic Haug of Manhattan, KS, Sister Connie Haug of Great Bend, Dora Cross of Centralia, Gerriann Henry of Kansas City, MO, Jeanne Heiman of Wichita, Sue Haug of Seneca, Mary Haug of Hiawatha, Regina (Danni) Aldrine of Topeka and Cathie Wynkoop of Topeka; two brothers, Larry Haug and Mike Haug, both of Seneca; and 14 grandchildren.
Besides her husband Gilbert, she was preceded in death by her father, Omer E. Haug on March 21, 1991; her mother, Lucille M. on September 13, 2006; her brothers, Omer “Cotton” on February 16, 2007 and Ronald “George” on April 29, 2011; and an infant sister Theresa.
Rosaries wil be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Wednesday, March 7, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 AM Thursday, March 8, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
