Obituary: Paul C. Pelletier, 77, Manhattan, entered eternal life on August 18, 2005 at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born August 29, 1927 in Bay City, Michigan, the son of Oscar and Laura (Janness) Pelletier. He attended elementary and secondary schools in Bay City and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit. He studied in Rome, Italy from 1949-1953 and received a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Gregorian University there. He was ordained as a Catholic priest in the Church of the Twelve Apostles on July 20, 1952.

Returning to the United States, he served in several parishes in the Diocese of Saginaw, Michigan. After receiving a Master of Social Work degree in 1958 from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., he was appointed Director of one of the Catholic Family Service Agencies in the diocese, and then in 1965 was appointed Director of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Saginaw. He resigned from the diocese in 1967.

While teaching at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Mr. Pelletier married Jane Mullen on October 26, 1968.

After three years of doctoral studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Mr. Pelletier accepted a teaching position in 1972 at Kansas State University to form a Social Work Program within the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. The program received accreditation in 1974 from the Council on Social Work Education. Mr. Pelletier received Kansas State University’s Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher of the Year Award in 1976.

Mr. Pelletier resigned from the University in 1980. He subsequently worked for the State of Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services, first as Chief of Social Services in the Manhattan Area, and then as Director of Staff Development, working out of Topeka. He retired in 1989.

Mr. Pelletier was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rev. Robert Pelletier.

Survivors include his wife, Jane; two daughters, Laura Bonella and her husband, Mike Bonella, Manhattan, and Nanette Pelletier Buttrey and her husband, Steve Buttrey of Overland Park, KS; and one sister, Therese Dupuis and her husband, Larry Dupuis of Saginaw, Michigan. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Cremation is planned. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 21, 2005 in the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan. A visitation for family and friends will immediately follow the Wake Service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 22, 2005 at 5:30 p.m., at St. Isidore Catholic Student Center, Manhattan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sunflower CASA Project. They may be left with the funeral home or mailed to Sunflower CASA Project, Box 158, Manhattan, KS 66505-0158. Obituary: Albert Ray “Big Al” Myers, 68, Manhattan, KS passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2005 in his home after an extended illness.

He was born August 27, 1936 at Colony, KS, the son of Stanley Lawrence Myers and Rena Dion Brown Myers. He grew up in Colony and attended the local public schools. He later received an AA degree from Wichita State University in Police Science and had also attended many classes at Kansas State University.

He was united in marriage to Clara M. Meliza on November 5, 1955 at Colony. She survives of the home.

Mr. Myers was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Long Beach and Modesto, CA.

After his military discharge, Mr. Myers lived in Modesto, CA, Logan, UT and Garnett, KS before moving to Manhattan in 1963. He spent over 23 years with the Riley County Police Department and retired as a Sergeant in 1983.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Manhattan and had served as secretary and treasurer of the Brotherhood of United Commercial Travelers. He was active with the local Boy Scout program and for many years was best known for his work with the Toys-For-Tots Program through the Police Department.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Myers is survived by a son, Douglas Ray Myers, and his wife, Verleta, Manhattan; three daughters, Anna Marie Buckland, and her husband, Phillip, Gladstone, MO, Penny Kay Myers, Merriam, KS and Christy Lynn Johnston, and her husband, Gabe, North Kansas City, MO; four brothers, Eddie Myers, Sapulpa, OK, Jerry Myers, Kansas City, MO, Randy Myers, Kansas City, KS and Alan Myers, Arlington, TX; a sister, Ruth Ann Womeldorf, Welda, KS; five grandchildren, Joshua and Athena Myers, Benjamin and Bethany Buckland and Zachary Johnston; and two great grandchildren, Jamie and Jordon.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2005 in the First Christian Church, Manhattan with the Rev. Neil Engle officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.

Obituary: Kenneth J. Pike, 60, Manhattan, KS passed away Monday, August 15, 2005 in the Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan.

He was born March 27, 1945 at Chickasha, OK, the son of Velmer Pike and Willie Sharp Pike. Because of his father’s military career, Kenneth grew up in various locations within the United States and abroad.

He was united in marriage to Sandra R. Blake on May 30, 1986 at Manhattan. She survives of the home.

Mr. Pike spent his career as a soldier and officer in the U.S. Army. He was proud to have served in the Big Red One Division, with service during the Vietnam Conflict and Desert Storm. He retired as a Sergeant First Class (E-7) in June 1992. After his military retirement, he worked as a manager at the local Rentway store until 1996 and until January 2005 drove a bus for the Unified School District.

He attended the Manhattan Lighthouse Church and was a former member of the Lee Pierson V.F.W. Post No. 1786.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Pike is survived by two sons, Robert Ewing, Jr., Manhattan and Larry Jackson Pike, Oklahoma City, OK; three daughters, Dawn-a McNeal, and her husband, Richard, Manhattan, Kenna J. Puzia, and her husband, Brian, Gram, TX and Chelsi L. Pike, Manhattan; his mother, Willie Ray, Casa Grande, AZ; four brothers, Wayne Pike, James Pike and David Pike, all of Casa Grande, AZ and Michael Pike, Lawton, OK; two sisters, Cheryl Collins, Muskogee, OK and Debra Trusty, Casa Grande, AZ; and three grandsons, Zachery, Zeboriah and Zane Reeves.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 19, 2005 in the Trinity Baptist Church, Wamego with Pastors Tony Matia and Jim Lowry officiating. Inurnment, will full military honors, will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.

Obituary: Ada Lou Rose, 78, a longtime Manhattan resident, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2005 in a Wichita nursing home.

She was born February 6, 1927 at Greenleaf, KS, the daughter of Clyde Burton Scott and Ada Ethel Mitchell Scott. As an infant, she moved with her family to Manhattan, where she grew up attending the local schools and was a 1944 graduate of the Manhattan High School.

After graduation, she worked for a year as a dental assistant at Ft. Riley and from 1945-1947 attended Baker University at Baldwin, KS. She returned to Manhattan to attend Kansas State University and in 1949 received her BS degree in Sociology and Psychology. She worked several more years at Ft. Riley before being united in marriage to Donald L. Rose on June 10, 1956 at Manhattan. They were later divorced.

Mrs. Rose lived in New Jersey from 1956-1961 and came back to Manhattan to receive her Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling from KSU in 1966.

For 25 years, 1966-1991, Ada Lou worked as a teacher and school counselor in the Hoxie, KS high school. In 1991 she came back to Manhattan to live in the family home and to care for her sister, Bernice Scott, who passed away July 3, 1996.

She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Manhattan, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and choir director. She was also a member of the KNEA and NEA. While living in Hoxie, she was a member of the Christian Church, Neighborhood Entertainment Co., past president of the Business & Professional Women, secretary and two-time president of the KCAD, president of the Sheridan County Teachers Association, Sheridan County Mental Health Board and served on the Advisory Board of the Colby Community College.

In addition to her sister, she was also preceded in death by brother, Foster Scott and an infant brother, Thale B. Scott; and her parents.

Survivors include a daughter, Melinda Collins, and her husband, Richard, Wichita; a sister, Armeda Thomas, Manhattan; and one granddaughter, Kristyn Collins.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2005 in the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan with Pastor Robert Flack officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.

Obituary: Dennis J. George, Jr., 52, Washington, KS passed away Sunday, July 31, 2005 in his home, after a sudden illness.

He was born September 29, 1952 at Crosby, MN, the son of Dennis J. George, Sr. and Victoria M. Sumbs George. He spent his early years in Crosby and later moved to Killeen, TX with his family, where he attended school and was a graduate of the Killeen High School.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Steward on April 12, 1972 at Chanute AFB, Rantoul, IL. They were later divorced. On November 4, 2002 he was married to Nancy Lowe Cooley at Manhattan, KS. She survives of the home.

Dennis spent over 22 ˝ years in military service; most of those years in the submarine service with the U.S. Navy. He was stationed out of Charleston, SC for many years and had been a resident of Washington since 2003.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Pearce-Keller American Legion Post No. 17 and the Manhattan Coin Club, all of Manhattan.

In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by two sons, Dennis J. George III and Daniel George, both of Summerville, SC; two daughters, Diana Thoren, Atlanta, GA and Dawn Elizabeth Rowland, Orangeburg, SC; three step-daughters, Karon Cramer, Scott City, KS and Karla Hudson and Kara Guernsey, both of Lincoln, NE; his parents, Dennis and Victoria George, Manhattan; two brothers, Dale R. George, Lathrop, MO and Douglas E. George, Ottawa, KS; three sisters, Deborah A. Ivey, Mesquite, TX, and Doreen M. Ray and Donna M. Hinschliff, both of Manhattan; and 11 grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2005 in the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Manhattan with Father Joseph Popelka as celebrant. Inurnment, with military honors, will follow in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, in the Elbow community, east of Manhattan.

Obituary: Joanne “Jody” Frudden Brown, 75, Manhattan, KS passed away Sunday, July 10, 2005 in the Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan.

She was born May 17, 1930 at Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of W. W. Frudden and Eleanor Lucille “Lucy” Herr Frudden. She grew up in Ackley, IA, where she attended the local schools and was a graduate of the Ackley High School. She later received her BA degree in Music Education from Kansas State University, Manhattan in 1969.

She was united in marriage to Paul W. Brown on April 21, 1951 at Manhattan. He survives of the home.

Mrs. Brown lived at Camp McCoy, WI, Abilene, KS and Great Bend, KS before moving to Manhattan in 1966. She taught music in the Manhattan and Junction City school districts for many years before retiring in 1992. After retirement, she continued in music education by substitute teaching for several years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, PEO, Chi Omega Sorority, Welcome Wagon and the Kansas Music Educators Association. She often participated in civic theatre productions and sang with various vocal groups.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Brown is survived by two sons, David A. Brown, and his wife, Dr. Susan K. Mosier, Manhattan and Matthew J. Brown, Wheaton, MD; four daughters, Paula S. Norvell, and her husband, Mark, Tulsa, OK, Vickie L. Brown, and her husband, Chris Zachariadis, Middleton, MD, Jodi J. Motley, Manhattan and Alison K. Camillo, and her husband, David, Brownsburg, IN; and 12 grandchildren, Amy and Robert Tserenkov, Scott and Susannah Norvell, Julie Zachariadis, Nicholas and Michael Clayman, Ericka, Rachel and Kayla Motley, and Joelle and Logan Camillo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Thomas Frudden; and a grandson, Peter Zachariadis.

Mrs. Brown donated her body to the K.U. Medical Center for research purposes. Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 2005 in the First United Methodist Church, Manhattan with the Rev. Jim Reed officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Obituary: Arthur L. McIntyre, 81, Manhattan, KS passed away Thursday, July 21, 2005 in his home after an extended illness.

He was born April 18, 1924 at Hoopeston, IL, the son of Robert McIntyre and Ethel Butler McIntyre. He grew up a farm between Hoopeston and Wellington, IL. He attended the local schools and was a graduate of the Wellington High School.

He was married to Ida Goin and they were divorced. He later married Lucille Ayers. She preceded him in death in 1995.

Mr. McIntyre lived in Illinois for many years, where he was a farmer and also built transmissions for the Hyster Lift Truck Company in Danville. In 1968, he moved to Horseshoe Bend, AR, where he farmed and also worked for the City of Horseshoe Bend as a maintenance worker, Assistant Fire Chief and eventually retiring as Fire Chief in 1988. He had been a resident of Manhattan since 2000.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 739, Eagles Lodge No. 5431, the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine Club, all of Horseshoe Bend. His interests included fishing and watching car racing.

In addition to his wife, Mr. McIntyre was preceded in death by a son, Arthur L. McIntyre, Jr. in 1998; his parents; and a brother, Edward McIntyre.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas J. McIntyre and Sharon, Manhattan and Edward H. McIntyre, and his wife, Sandy, Leesville, SC; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

A visitation, for family and friends, will be from 7 until 8:30 p.m., Saturday, July 23, 2005 in the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan. Cremation will follow with inurnment, at a later date, in the Violet Hill Cemetery, Violet Hill, AR.

Obituary: Anna Marie Wasinger, 90, Manhattan, a former longtime Garden City, KS resident, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2005 in the St. Joseph Village, Manhattan.

She was born April 16, 1915 at Garden City, the daughter of Peter Sauer and Mary Schuvie Sauer. She grew up in St. Peter, KS, where she attended the local schools. She also attended the Sacred Heart Academy in Salina, KS.

She was united in marriage to Anton “Tony” A. Wasinger on August 8, 1933 at St. Peter. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1986.

Mrs. Wasinger spent most of her life in Garden City. She was the Director of the Lunch Program at the St. Mary’s Catholic School for 18 years and for 14 years worked as the Director of Laundry Services at the St. Catherine Hospital. She retired in 1981. She lived in Wichita from 1999 until moving to Manhattan in 2004.

Mrs. Wasinger was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Garden City and the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Manhattan. Other memberships included the Altar Societies, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Garden City and the Kansas Quilters Association.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include two sons, Bernie A. Wasinger, and his wife, Sandy, Garden Grove, CA and Richard L. Wasinger, and his wife, Debi, Wichita; two daughters, Norma L. Butler, and her husband, Patrick, Manhattan and Beverly A. Wasinger, Manhattan; three brothers, Eugene Sauer, Morland, KS and Connie Sauer and Laverne Sauer, both of Wichita; four sisters, Katie Pierce, Ellis, KS, Dolly Riedel, Salina, Lilly Lang, Atwood, KS and Ann Williams, Wichita; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2005 in the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Manhattan with Father Don Zimmerman as celebrant. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2005 in the Valley View Cemetery, Garden City with Father James Baker officiating.
