Georgie L. Wessel
Georgie L. Wessel, 76, of Seneca, Kansas, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at a Topeka hospital. She had been fighting cancer for the past six years.
She was born March 8, 1925, at Decatur, Arkansas, the daughter of Noah B. and Helen June Walklin Reed. Her father worked for the railroad and was in the service so she lived and went to school in many different places.
She married
Willis Kenworthy on October 14, 1941, at Axtell, Kansas. They lived in Axtell where she worked at the Axtell Hospital as a cook and also operated the City Café in Axtell. Her husband, Willis, died September 17, 1953.
On June 14, 1975, she married
Andrew Wessel at St. Bede's Church in Kelly, Kansas. They lived and farmed southwest of Kelly. Georgie helped with the milking on the farm. In June of 2000, they moved to Seneca. Andrew survives of the home in Seneca.
She was a member of St. Bede's Church and the Altar Society at the church in Kelly, and a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 1915 in Marysville, Kansas. She liked doing crafts, quilting, crocheting, and dolls. She donated her handmade crafts to the church. Georgie also enjoyed sewing for her family. She loved birds, fed them, and was an avid birdwatcher.
Survivors besides her husband are two sons, George Kenworthy of Axtell, Kansas and David Kenworthy of Cooper, Texas; a daughter, Willa Lee Meiries of Axtell; three brothers, Jack Reed of Boise, Idaho, John Reed of Granby, MO, Charles Reed of Wichita, Kansas; four sisters, Betty Black of Wilder, Idaho, Ella Mae Vansant of Claremore, Oklahoma, Jimmy Banks and Nora Smith both of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Willis, a brother, Bud Reed, preceded her in death.
The mass of Christian burial will be 1:30 P.M. Saturday at St. Bede's Church at Kelly. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Friday at 3 P.M. and at 8 P.M.
Memorials may be given for St. Bede's Church or for the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the family.
Henry V. Wessel
Henry V. Wessel, 87, of Hiawatha, Kansas, died Saturday, August 31, 2002, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.
He was born September 16, 1914, the son of August and Elizabeth Osterhaus Wessel on a farm northwest of Baileyville, Kansas. He grew up there, attended Sacred Heart Grade School, and worked on the family farm and at the CCC camp south of Seneca.
On November 20, 1945, he married
Gertrude Akin at St. Michael's Church at Axtell, Kansas. They were divorced in 1968. She died November 11, 1992.
They lived south of Seneca, where they farmed and operated a dairy business. In the spring of 1948 they moved to a farm south of Goff. Henry lost his right arm in a corn picker accident in 1952, but this did not stop him from doing his daily work. In December 1963 they moved to the Long Lane, Missouri area and later farmed and had dairies in the Buffalo and Louisburg areas of Missouri. In 1970 he returned to a farm north of Seneca, Kansas. Besides farming and operating a dairy, he had a trenching business. Henry retired from farming in 1972 and moved to Goff, KS, where he continued to do some trenching.
On October 30, 1993, he married
Elsie Richmond Savage at Wetmore, KS. They moved to Hiawatha. She survives of the home.
He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church at Hiawatha and the Brown County Senior Citizen's, where he played cards and visited with friends.
Survivors besides his wife, Elsie, are two sons, Cletus Wessel of Salem, Nebraska, and Fred Wessel of Sabetha; seven daughters, Anna Marie Segenhagen and Emma Jean Krogmann, both of Wetmore, Elizabeth "Betty" Vest of Long Lane, MO, Florence "Flo" Brown of Louisburg, MO, Theresa Marie Sherman of Peru, NE, Rita Weir of Portland, OR, and Julie Gakle of Topeka; two brothers, Albert "Bert" Wessel and Norbert Wessel both of Frankfort, KS; five sisters, Helen Hermesch, Eileen Duryea, Hilda Bergman, and Lucille Tanking, all of Seneca, KS and Alma Dwerlkotte of Marysville, KS; 38 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
The mass of Christian burial will be at St. Patrick's Church at Corning, KS at 10 A.M. Wednesday, September 4, 2002. The burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Tuesday at 2 P.M. and at 7 P.M. He will lie in state at the funeral home after 4 P.M. on Monday.

Lucille J. Wessel
Lucille J. Wessel, 83, Seneca, died Thursday, January 06, 2005, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. Her death was due to pneumonia and heart failure.
She was born on a farm north of Baileyville, January 10, 1921, the oldest child of Joseph A. and Minnie C. Bergman Kramer. When she was eight years old, the family moved to a farm southwest of Seneca. She attended school at Baileyville and the Schurman School and helped on the family farm. Lucille did domestic work, helped with newborn babies, and worked as a clerk in a dime store at Seneca.
On February 22, 1945, she married
Albert H. Wessel at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They lived, farmed, and operated a dairy northwest of Kelly. Lucille worked on the farm beside her husband. Her husband Albert died April 15, 2001. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Curtis, on September 4, 1996.
She raised dogs, rat terriers and schnauzers. When she was 70, she started “Wessel Flowers, ” a greenhouse at the farm where she sold bedding plants for flowers and vegetables. Lucille remained on the farm until 2002 when she moved into Seneca.
She was a member of St. Bede’s Church at Kelly and the Altar Sodality where she served as an officer. Albert and Lucille planted trees at St. Bede’sCemeteryand for years did the dishes after the Lion’s Club monthly meetings at Lake Nemaha. She cooked for the Benedictine Sisters at Kelly from 1954-1958, and also did custom wall papering. Lucille was an ambitious person who quilted, crocheted, fished in ponds, followed her grandchildren’s sports, and loved to cook and bake, especially coconut cream pies.
Survivors are a son, Frank Wessel, Axtell; three daughters, Rose Wilhelm, Seneca, Alice Hards, Oneida, and Rita Pfannenstiel, Silver Lake; two brothers Eymard Kramer, Topeka and Martin Kramer, Boyd, TX; 15 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Eugene, and Dareol Kramer.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, at St. Bede’s Church, Kelly. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 2 & 7 P.M. Sunday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, where she will lie in state after 8:30 A.M. Sunday.

Mary C. Wessel
Mary C. Wessel, 85, of Seneca, Kansas, died Sunday, December 30, 2001, at Country View Estates Care Home in Seneca. She had been a resident there since June this year.
She was born February 19, 1916, on a farm northeast of Seneca, the daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth Dalsing Osterhaus. She grew up there, attended Liberty School and Sts. Peter & Paul School, and worked on the family farm.
On April 12, 1939, she married
Henry B. "Henie" Wessel at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They lived and farmed in the Kelly area. Her husband, "Henie" died December 18, 1995. They had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and had been married
56 years at the time of his death.
Mary started the school lunch program at Kelly in 1949 and worked there until 1956 when they moved to Seneca. In Seneca she was employed at Evelyn's Café, Springer's Variety Store, Farrell's Ben Franklin Store, and for Bob Bair at the Ben Franklin Store until she retired in the fall of 1980.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and St. Ann's Altar Society at the church in Seneca. Mary did all types of needlework, crocheting, quilting and embroidery. Babysitting with her grandchildren and baking were other activities she enjoyed.
Survivors are a daughter, Mary Koelzer of Seneca; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Jessica Joane Koelzer on September 10, 1997; three brothers, John, Paul, and Albert Osterhaus; and three sisters, Anna Haug, Clara Krogman, and Agnes Waller.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 2 P.M. and a vigil prayer service will be conducted at 7 P.M. on Tuesday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for the Seneca E.M.T. Association and sent in care of the family.
Anna A. Weyer
Anna A. Weyer, 75, of Leavenworth, KS, died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at a Kansas City, KS, hospital. She had been in failing health for the last several years.
She was born June 25, 1926, in Oneida, KS, the daughter of Jonathan N. and Esther Blazer Bieri. As a teenager, she moved to Lansing, KS, where she graduated from high school in 1943. She moved to Kansas City in 1957 and was employed by Gould Battery and the Kansas Department of Transportation. Later she worked for TG&Y and K Mart from which she retired in 1984. Anna lost her Kansas City home in the 1993 flood and moved to Leavenworth.
She was active in her sons' activities and kept score at all their ball games. She enjoyed crafts and playing cards especially with her grandchildren. She collected rabbit and angel figurines.
On February 28, 1958, she married
Robert D. Weyer at Seneca, KS. They were divorced in 1974. Robert died August 21, 1997. A daughter, Donna Jean Weyer, preceded her in death on August 15, 1958.
Survivors are two sons, Michael Weyer of Tonganoxie, KS and Ronald Weyer of Basehor, KS; a sister, Dorothy Jetter of Georgetown Texas; and four grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ira, Arthur, and George Bieri; and two sisters, Ruby Hash and Betty Clark.
Funeral services will be 7 P.M. Tuesday at Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth where visitation will begin at 5 P.M. Tuesday.
Graveside services will be 11:30 A.M. Wednesday at Seneca City Cemetery, led by Pastor Joseph A. Martin. Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca is in charge of Seneca arrangements.

Garry J. Wichman
Garry John Wichman, 66, of Overland Park, Kansas died April 30, 2014, in Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, Kansas.
Garry was born in Seneca, on December 14, 1947, to Henry and Ethel Tangeman Wichman. Garry attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic school in 1965. After school Garry helped his father on the family farm until he entered the United States Army on November 3, 1967; he was discharged on April 23, 1973. While in service he was assigned to CO A 1st BN School Bde USA OC&S.
After his service to his country Garry, went to Kansas State University for two years then transferred to Emporia University, graduating with a bachelor degree in business. After college he moved to Missouri and went to work for Andy Kline Pontiac. After his brother Gene died, he moved back to help his father farm for a year; and then he moved back to Overland Park, Kansas, working for a body shop.
Garry retired in 2000, he had many hobbies: his motorcycle, gardening, walking his dog, yard maintenance, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed his family and friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry on April 21, 1987 and Ethel on October 31, 1983; and a brother, Eugene Wichman on September 8, 1983.
He survived by two sons, Nathan (Lindsey) Wichman of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Dustin Wichman of Overland Park, Kansas; one brother Lynn Wichman of Seneca; three sisters, Elaine Rottinghaus of Lyons, Colorado, Lois Fladie of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Ruth (John) Moon of De Sota, Kansas.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7th from 5-7 PM at Porter's Funeral Home in Lenexa, Kansas. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 8th at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Burial will be in St. Mary's CatholicCemeteryin St. Benedict, with military honors.
