Wichita – Eleanor (Eitzen) Edins, 83, died May 1, 2014 in Wichita. She was born December 17, 1930 to George and Sara (Krause) Flaming in Goessel. She was a homemaker. Survivors include: sons, Galen (Shirley) Eitzen of Valley Center, Stuart Eitzen of Wichita; daughter, Barbara (Christopher) Riggs of Wichita; brother, Howard Flaming of Dallas, Oregon; sisters, Aldina Franz of Hillsboro, LaWanda Oblander of Newton, Gladys Nickel of Dayton, Ohio; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church officiated by Pastor Lynn Jost. Family will receive guests from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the Church. Interment will be at Ebenfeld ChurchCemeteryrural Hillsboro. Sheldon L. Detwiler

Sheldon L. Detwiler, 65, died on Saturday, Nov. 27, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, at the Miller Funeral Home in Hesston. The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Schowalter Villa Chapel. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at EastlawnCemeterynear Hesston.

He was born on Aug. 1, 1939, to Ralph and Verna (Miller) Detwiler in Leonard, Mo. He was a carpenter.

born in Mississippi, he attended Iowa Mennonite High School, and then attended Hesston College for two years. He was a member of Long Beach Nazarene Church in Long Beach, Miss.

He moved to Missouri in 1973 and then back to Hesston in October 2004. He served in PAX for two years in Jordan.

Survivors include his father, of Hesston; two brothers, Glenford of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Don of Decatur, Texas; three sisters, Phyllis Yoder of Wellman, Iowa, Belle Duerksen of Goshen, Ind., and Luann Goertzen of Hesston.

Memorial funds have been established with Schowalter Villa, or Central Homecare and Hospice.

Jim Dalke
d. April 30, 2015

Hillsboro – Jim Dalke, 68, died April 30, 2015 in Hillsboro. He was born July 15, 1946 to Abraham and Doris (Foster) Dalke in Hillsboro. He was a truck mechanic at A.M.P.I. He married Susan Bliss March 7, 1970 in Hillsboro. Survivors include: son, Ben (Holly) Dalke of Hillsboro; daughter, Adrianna (Craig) Meder of Gardner, Kansas; 3 grandchildren; brothers, John (Delores) Dalke of Hillsboro, Dan (Donna) Dalke of Rural Hillsboro; sisters, Ruth (Larry) Hamm of Hillsboro, Mary (Larry) Allen near Oklahoma City. Predeceased by his wife Susan Dalke in 2003 and one brother, Paul Dalke. A time to Gather and Celebrate the Life of Jim Dalke will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at The Hillsboro United Methodist Church fellowship Hall in Hillsboro. Charles W. Priddy
d. October 19, 2014

Halstead – Charles W. Priddy, 78, died October 19, 2014 at Asbury Park in Newton. He was born May 30, 1936 to Laurence and Bulah (Rodgers) Priddy in Ripley, Oklahoma. Survivors include: wife, Wanda Priddy of Newton; son, Kirk Shields-Priddy of Langley, B.C.; daughter, Keresa (Paul) Britton of Halstead; sisters, Laura Mae Woodward of Moore, Oklahoma, Jean Stiemke of Moore, Oklahoma, Melinda Milinkovich of Stillwater, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchildren. Predeceased by daughter in law, Sara Shields – Priddy, sisters, Naomi Maxine Priddy, Joy Evelyn Yeager, brother, Laurence Henry Jr. Celebration of Life will be Friday, October 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at First Mennonite Church in Halstead officiated by Pastor Brian Harmon and Reverend Scott Berry. John Douglas Schrock, 48

John Douglas Schrock, 48, died April 8, 2015.

He was born August 29, 1966, at Washington, Iowa to Leo and Nedra (Miller) Schrock.

He was an OTR Truck Driver.

He married Rhonda Gehring on October 29, 1988 at Moundridge.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda, Hesston; daughters, Morgan and Kaitlyn Schrock, both of Hesston; Parents, Leo (Nedra) Schrock, Kalona, Iowa; brother, Leon (Robin) Schrock, Parnell, Iowa.

A memorial service will be Monday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m. at the Whitestone Mennonite Church, Hesston. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 12, 2015, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the church.

Memorial donations are suggested to Whitestone Mennonite Church Scholarship Fund and Hesston College Athletics, in care of the Moundridge Funeral Home.

Adaline R. Abrahams
(June 6, 1915 - March 3, 2012)

Adaline R. Abrahams, 96, of Newton, died Saturday (March 3, 3012) at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton.

She was born on June 6, 1915 in Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Peter K. and Millicent Measer Funk. The family moved to a farm near Goessel, Kansas when she was an infant. Adaline graduated from Goessel High School.

During World War II, she worked at the tent factory in Newton. She married Edward Allen Abrahams on October 2, 1945 in Newton. Adaline enjoyed the nearly ten years she worked at Hehr International assembling windows for mobile homes, until retiring.

Survivors include two sons Barry Abrahams of Newton and Allen Abrahams of Oviedo, Fla.; one daughter Treva Brunner of Newton; one brother Howard Funk of Texas; one sister Zella White of San Bernadino, Calif.; four grandchildren Kim Giesen, Sean Brunner, Taisha Abrahams, and Stephanie Bortz; and five great grandchildren.

Adaline is preceded in death by her parents; husband on April 7, 1991; and one brother Marion Funk.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday (March 7, 2012) at the Grace Community Church in Newton. Interment will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday 1pm til 9pm, where the family will receive friends between 6:30 and 8pm.

A memorial has been established with World Impact and also Youth Horizons, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.

Lucena Thiessen
d. November 4, 2014

Fredonia – Lucena Thiessen, 92, died November 4, 2014 at Garland, Texas. She was born November 16, 1921 to Jacob and Anna (Wall) Seibel in Aulne, Kansas. She married Alfred Thiessen October 3, 1948 in Fredonia. Survivors include: son, Larry Thiessen of Galva; daughters, Judy (Ed) Wolfe of Newton, Carol Sachse of Garland, Texas; brothers, Wallace and Homer; sister, Frances Quintana; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband, Alfred Thiessen in 2008. Celebration of Life service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro officiated by Pastor Keith Harder. Vivian Blodget Hughes
d. April 25, 2015

Hillsboro – Vivian Blodget Hughes, 90, died April 25, 2015 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. She was born June 28, 1924 to Percy Whidden and Zella Mae (Allison) Archibald in Freso, CA. She was a Real Estate Broker. She married Kirby Stevenson Boldget February 10, 1946 in Fresno, CA. In 1994 she married Harley J. Hughes in Las Vegas, Nevada. Survivors include: daughters, Peggy Anne (Gaylord) Goertzen of Hillsboro, Claudia Rae Blodget of Tehachapi, CA; sister, Shirley Lusich of Bakersfield, CA; 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her husbands and one daughter, Marcia Janet Ripley in 1986. Celebration of Life Service 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church Rural Hillsboro officiated by Pastor Gaylord Goertzen. Interment will be at UnionCemeteryin Bakersfield, CA. Family will receive guests from 6 to 8 Tuesday at Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Esther H. Rediger

Esther H. Rediger, 80, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

There is no visitation. Services are Friday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. at First Church of the Nazarene in Newton.

Rev. Ron Thornton, Rev. Rick Dages and Rev. Beverly Baumgartner, chaplain at Schowalter Villa, will preside.

Burial will be in the Waldo Township Cemetery, near Gridley, Ill.

She was born on July 7, 1924, at Delphos, Ohio, to Chester and Eva Mae (Wright) Alspaugh.

Edward and Elizabeth (Stalter) Rediger later adopted her.

She attended grade school in Flanagan, Ill, Hesston High School , and Hesston and Bethel colleges.

Esther became a Lin-O-Type operator for the Record Printing Co. in Hesston, and later a teacher and librarian in Hesston and Hutchinson schools. She retired in 1980.

She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Newton for many years, serving in the areas of Children's Church and Sunday school education, and many other committees.

She was a volunteer for the Harvey County R.S.V.P. program and Mother Club Day Care. She owned and operated the Knit-N-Nacks craft store in Hutchinson, and later operated the Golden Thimble at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

She enjoyed helping others at church and in her volunteer work.

Survivors include three sisters, Jean Rediger of Hesston, Mary Bontrager of Goshen, Ind., and Evelyn Shaw of Hillsdale, Mich., and a brother, Charles Alspaugh, of Reading, Mich.

Preceding her in death were Edward Albert Rediger and Elizabeth Rediger; brothers Edward and Hubert Alspaugh, and two sisters, Olive Macey and Betty Cash.

A memorial fund has been established with the First Church of the Nazarene "Compassion Ministry."

Elgin Bartel
d. April 16, 2014

Hillsboro – Elgin Bartel, 93, died April 16, 2014 at Salem Home in Hillsboro. He was born October 8, 1920 to Henry J. and Eva (Bartel) Bartel in Hillsboro. He married Evelyn Wedel in 1952, she died in 1975. He than married Rubena Leppke in 1979, she died in 2013. Survivors include: sons, Rollind (Melissa) Bartel of Rural Hillsboro, Keith Bartel of Wichita, Ron (Faith) Klaassen of Newark, New Jersey, Kevin (Barbara) Klaassen of Big Spring, Texas; daughters, Kay (Pete) Ferrell of Wichita of Wichita, Loretta (Ron) Paxton of Wichita, Diane (Tyler) Ewert of Wichita; daughter in law, Janell Klaassen of Hillsboro.17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church officiated by Pastor Wilmer Thiessen and Pastor Steve Schroeder. Interment will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Haven of RestCemeteryrural Hillsboro. Family will receive guests from 6 to 8 Friday at Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Dora Lavaun Sommer Hostetler, 97

Dora Lavaun Sommer Hostetler, 97, passed away March 23, 2015, at Schowalter Villa.

She was born on Sept. 22, 1917, in Crawfordsville, IA the daughter of Christian C. and Selma Clare (Suter) Sommer. She married Harry F. Dettwiler on Dec. 15, 1940. She later married Kenneth E. Hostetler on Oct. 25, 1952.

Dora worked hard holding several jobs including Hesston Cleaners, Hesston Appliance and Hesston Manufacturing and she was a homemaker.

Growing up in Crawfordsville, Iowa, she attended school grades 1 through 4, later moving to Wayland, Iowa and attended grades 5 through 12.

After the death of her father, Christian Sommer, her mother and siblings spent summers traveling to Ohio to spend time with her Grandpa Peter C. Suter.

She is survived by her son Harry F. (Butch) Dettwiler and wife Valerie of Wichita, daughter Ann Schroeder and husband Jerry of Arkansas City, Kan., and a brother Irvin C. Sommer of Alameda, Calif., four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Selma Sommer, her husband, Kenneth E. Hostetler, one brother, Otto L. Sommer and one grandson Greg Schroeder.

The family greeted friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston.

Private Graveside services will be held in the Hesston CityCemeterywith Pastor Amy Nissley Stauffer officiating.

Memorials may be made to Schowalter Villa Good Samaritan Fund in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, 107 S. Lancaster P.O. Box 32, Hesston, KS 67062.
