Minnie F. Smith
Minnie F. Smith, 94, died on Aug. 21, 2005, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at Highland Trinity United Church of Christ in rural Newton, with the Revs. Sheree Boman and Beverly Baumgartner officiating. Burial will be at HighlandCemeteryin rural Newton.
She was born on Dec. 29, 1910, in rural Newton to William C. and Mamie (Dreier) Molzen.
She was a founding member of Highland Trinity Church. She was the first member to be baptized in the church.
Minnie graduated from Newton public schools.
On Oct. 2, 1930, she married
Roy H. Smith at Highland Church. He died in 1985.
Minnie was known for her cooking, especially her graham cracker pie. She enjoyed spending time with family and liked babysitting her grandchildren as they were growing up. She crocheted afghans for her family to have as a keepsake.
Survivors include three daughters: Marilyn and Richard Knott of Hesston, Joyce and Steve Hanes of Halstead, and Kathy and Ted Stein of rural Sedgwick; a son, Bill and Sylvia Smith of Hesston; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold Molzen; and a sister, Neva Grabill.
Memorials have been established with Highland Church and the Eastborough wing at Schowalter Villa.

Amanda Loewens, 95
Amanda Klassen Loewens was born in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, on Jan. 23, 1920. She was the youngest of nine children born to Abraham A. and Justina Wiebe Klassen. All preceded her in death - five brothers: Abraham H., Sam, Arnold A., Leondo C., and Will Klassen and three sisters: Mathilda Stoesz, Justina Janzen, and Elizabeth Harder.
Amanda accepted Christ as her Savior and Lord in February of 1932; she was baptized by Rev H. E. Weins in 1938. At this time she became a member of the Mountain Lake Mennonite Brethren Church.
Her first twelve years of education were in the Mountain Lake Public schools. She then attended Mountain Lake Bible School and graduated in 1940 with a teaching degree. She attended Tabor Academy in 1943 for one year.
She was married
to LaVern on June 2, 1944.
The couple had three children, Marabeth, Rosemary and Timmy.
Amanda was a pastor's wife and a homemaker and a partner in Lavern's ministry (church secretary, printing bulletins, visitation, music, and many more gifts). She also led Bible studies for women and children and after school Bible programs.
She taught in a one room school house in Nebraska. She was secretary at the MB offices in Hillsboro for nine years .
Amanda had the spiritual gift of encouragement. She was faithful to God to the very end.
Amanda died Wednesday, July 22, 2015, in her room at the Schowalter Villa at the age of 95.
She is survived by her husband LaVern of Schowalter Villa and two daughters, Marabeth and Allen Busenitz of West Lafayetta, Indiana and Rosemary and Richard Prieb of Hesston Kansas. And her seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be at 3 p.m., Aug. 15, at the Hesston Mennonite Brethren Church. The family wishes to thank you for the care and prayers offered during the past weeks. Please join the family for a meal immediately after the memorial service.

Helen Klaassen
(June 4, 1927 - April 20, 2012)
HELEN KAUFMAN KLAASSEN, 84, Newton, died Friday (April 20, 2012) at the Newton Medical Center.
She was born on June 4, 1927 in Newton, the daughter of Gustav and Katie Regier Entz. Helen graduated from Hesston Christian Academy.
Helen married
Jake Kaufman on April 14, 1962. He died on December 16, 1975. She later married
Harry Klaassen on March 9, 1985 at the Sister Frieda Chapel in Newton. He died October 10, 2000.
Helen had been a nurses aide for seven years at Friendly Acres Retirement Community, where she later was a volunteered. She was a member of First Mennonite Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir.
Survivors include her daughter Sharon Wedel and husband Gary of Burns, Ks.; brother Arnold J. Entz of Newton; and three grandchildren Matthew Wedel, Timothy Wedel and Kristyn Wedel.
Helen is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers Gus H. Entz, Bernard Entz and Aldred Entz; sisters Frieda Harder and Louise Wedel.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday (April 24, 2012) at the First Mennonite Church. Private family interment will be in the GreenwoodCemeteryprior to the services.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday 1pm til 8pm where the family will receive friends between 6 and 8.

Chester ‘Chet’ Dennis Miller, 89
Chester "Chet" Dennis Miller, 89, went Home to be with his beloved wife, Nellie, on Feb. 12, 2016, at Schowalter Villa, Hesston.
born in McPherson County, Chet was the son of Billie D. and Ada F. Yoder Miller.
Chet married
Nellie F. Zimmerman on Sept. 9, 1948. They were married
for 63 years before her death in 2011.
Chet and his family farmed in Protection for 40 years, then retired to Missouri, later moving to Hesston to be with family. He was a member of the Hesston Mennonite Church.
Survivors include two sons, Rick (Katie), Versailles, Missouri, and Wes (Celeste Balog), Wichita; a daughter, Candy (Rick) Cirricione, Fisher, Illinois; two brothers, B.J. Miller, Goshen, Indiana and Galen (Joan) Miller, Sod, West Virginia; two sisters, Alma Kuhns, Colorado Springs, Colorado and LaVera Ressler, Goshen, Indiana; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Hesston Mennonite Church.

Carl L. Nelms
Carl L. Nelms, 72, died on Aug. 13, 2005, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
The funeral service was Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, at Schowalter Villa, with the Rev. Beverly Baumgartner officiating. Burial was in the Hesston CityCemeteryon Monday.
He was born on Dec. 27, 1932, in Wilmer, Texas, to John and Dessie (Bush) Nelms.
Carl served in the Air Force, serving in Korea and Japan.
On Dec. 24, 1953, he married
Fern Schroeder in Dallas. CarlOs father, who was an ordained Baptist minister, married
them.
Following his time in the Air Force, Carl worked as a diesel mechanic. Later, he went to work for the city of Dallas as a police car mechanic.
He also worked for General Dynamics in the environmental testing department.
He was involved with the development of the Atlas rocket.
After he and his wife moved to Kansas, Carl went to work for Hesston Corporation. While there, he received a patent for an automatic tying system for the round baler.
Carl enjoyed working with amateur radios, computers and cars. He also loved to read, especially the Bible.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; and four sisters, Jessie Lou Crimm of Balch Spring, Texas, Joy Lynn and Jim Mangham and Amber Gay Drake, all of Seagoville, Texas, and Tonya Ann and Mike Murphy of Crandall, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James H. Nelms.
Memorials may be sent to the north nursing station at Schowalter Villa.
Edwin W. Colby
Edwin W. Colby, 87, died on May 5, 2005, at Memorial Home in Moundridge.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the United Methodist Church in Moundridge, with the Rev. Jeanine Rishel officiating. Cremation has taken place.
He was born on Nov. 29, 1917, in Canton to Arthur and Ada (Hager) Colby.
He was a Moundridge resident for eight years, moving from Newton. He was a purchasing agent for Excel Manufacturing in Hesston before retiring. He was a member of Moundridge United Methodist Church.
On June 6, 1940, he married
Era June Zimmerman in McPherson.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Pamela J. Durst of Moundridge; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a son, Edwin W. Colby Jr.
A memorial has been established with the United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
