Gladys E. Ruff

Gladys Eileen (Oblander) Ruff passed away and joined her husband, Ike, in heaven on October 14, 2011.
She was born May 7, 1926 in Hillsboro, Kansas to George and Anna (Shulz) Oblander. Gladys was baptized & confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church of Durham, Ks.. She grew up on a farm in Lehigh, Kansas and after high school moved to Newton, where she lived throughout her life. Gladys was united in marriage to Raymond David (Ike) Ruff on December 12, 1947 in Newton. During the Korean War she spent two years with Ike in Oceanside, California when he was recalled into the US Marines. Gladys worked for the Axtell Clinic/Hospital from 1944-1950, and later from 1968-1988, when they both retired. She and Ike enjoyed 20 years of life together following that retirement. Ike died on April 3, 2008.
Survivors include son, Rickey (Carol) of Derby Kansas and daughter, Karen Ann Elpers (Mike), of Northville, Michigan. Grandchildren: Jamie Lynn Lang (Kyle) of Manhattan, Ks., Shawn David Ruff (Lacey) of Wichita, Ks., Jeremy Foster Ruff of Wichita, Ks., and Christopher Michael Elpers of Northville, Michigan. Great Granchildren: Tanner Michael Lang, Kaden James Lang, and Madison Renea Lang, all of Manhattan, Kansas. Also: One sister Shirley Schroeder (Robert) of Newton, Ks., and one brother Harvey (Jo) Oblander of Phoenix, Arizona.
Gladys was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Newton, Kansas. She enjoyed her family, loved music, was kind and gentle to everyone, and will be missed by all of us. She was a loving wife, a super mom, and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. During her past three years she was a resident at the Halstead Health & Rehab Center, Halstead, Ks., where she was cared for by an outstanding staff.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in her memory to Good Shepherd Hospice, Wichita, Kansas, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114
Funeral services will be at 11 AM, Monday October 17th at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton. The Rev. James W. Anderson will be presiding. Burial will be at the Restlawn Garden of Memories outside of Newton.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday 1pm til 7pm,where the family will receive friends between 4pm and 5pm.

Janice Eileen Arnold, 71
Janice Eileen Arnold, 71, passed away Feb. 9, 2016, at her home in Hesston.
She was born Oct. 28, 1944, at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital, Newton, the daughter of Marvin H. and Myrle Goossen Buller.
She had worked as the District Librarian for the Halstead Public Schools, as the librarian for the Newton Public Library, was a member of the Hesston Mennonite Church, the bell choir and for 45 years a member of the Mother's Night Out Group.
On Aug. 13, 1966, she married
George D. Arnold at the First Mennonite Church, Newton.
She is survived by her husband, George, of Hesston; her children, Scott (Natasha) of Hesston and Derek (Melody) of Hutchinson; two brothers, Lawrence (Amy) Buller of Austin, Texas and Leroy (Ruby) Buller of Newton and seven grandchildren, Max (14), Nicholas, (12), Olivia, (11) Arnold, Taylor (16), Haley (15) Arnold, Dakota (18), Paige (11) Roberds.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Graveside Service will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 15, 2016 at Eastlawn Cemetery, rural Hesston with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m., Monday, at Hesston Mennonite Church, Hesston. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston. Angel Charles Wooley

Angel Charles Wooley, the son of Stanley Wayne Wooley, Jr. and Teresa Chandler Wooley, was greeted by the angels on Monday, September 26, 2011 at the Newton Medical Center in Newton,Ks.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A.M., Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.
Wayne A. Schroeder
Wayne A. Schroeder, 74, died on May 8, 2005, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Miller Funeral Home in Goessel.
The funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Mark Wiens officiating. Burial will be at Alexanderwohl Cemetery.
He was born on June 20, 1930, in Newton to Arthur and Mary (Unruh) Schroeder. On May 25, 1959, he married
Joan Klassen in Wichita. She preceded him in death.
He was a lifetime resident of the Goessel, Hillsboro and Hesston areas.
He was a member of Alexanderwohl Church near Goessel and the Wichita Square Dance Club.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Byard of Topeka; two daughters, Jenny L. Crow of Emporia and Joyce Schroeder Peirce of Massachusetts; a sister, Irna Reynolds of Peachtree City, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Mel.
A memorial fund has been established with the Schowalter Villa Good Samaritan Fund.

Bernita Martin Boyts
Bernita Martin Boyts passed away on Mar. 13, 2015.
She was born to Bill and Dorothy Martin, Wellman Iowa, on Mar. 26, 1936.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Harold Boyts, and three children: Michelle Boyts, Louisburg: Michael Boyts, (Cindy Hoedel), Matfield Green and Rick Boyts, (Mary), Fort Collins Colo.; two grandchildren, Nicholas Boyts and Marie Claire Boyts and their mother Catherine Boyts, Lenexa. She also leaves sisters Carol (Ray) Bontrager, Hutchinson and Cheryl Martin Miller (Wendell), Iowa City, Iowa; a brother Gary Martin, (Mary), Newton, Iowa, and a sister-in-law, Joyce Hardy, Ottumwa, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Larry Martin.
Friends are invited Saturday afternoon, March 21, at 2:30 p.m., to visit with Bernita’s family and others at the Dyck Arboretum’s Visitor Center, followed by a meal and Birthday cake at 4 p.m. in the Arboretum's Pavilion.

Herbert Lee Overton
Herbert Lee Overton, 76, died on May 1, 2005, at his home in Terre Haute, Ind.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 5, and 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Miller Funeral Home in Hesston.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at Hesston United Methodist Church.
He was born in Kansas City, Mo., to Delbert and Irene Overton.
After completing high school, he joined the Marines. He graduated from McPherson College and earned a master’s degree from Emporia State University.
He started teaching in a one- room school, but soon moved to Hesston, where he developed the middle school concept.
He continued his studies, which enabled him to work with special education students at Prairie View Mental Health Center in Newton. He loved to play golf.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Campbell, of the home; a son, Anthony, by his first wife; a daughter-in-law, Yvonne; a sister, Helen Higgins; a step-daughter, Alice Campbell; a stepson, Craig Campbell; and three grandchildren.
Pauline Bartley
(July 24, 1938 - November 9, 2011)
Pauline Bartley 73 of Newton died Wednesday (November 9, 2011) at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton. Pauline was born on July 24, 1938 to Cole and Laura Pippin White in Alden, Ks. On July 31, 1954 she married
Shelton Bartley in Sedan, Kansas. Pauline had worked in the Food Service Dept at Bethel College and the Bakery at North Dillons Store. After retiring Pauline and Shelton moved to Joplin, Mo where they lived for 13 years. While living in Joplin, Pauline did home health care. They returned to Newton this past summer. Pauline had been a member of the Newton V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed gospel music, playing dominoes, bingo and traveling.
Survivors include her husband, Shelton of the home; daughter Laura and husband Harry Wolfe of Newton, son Michael Bartley of Columbus, Ks. Son-in-law Randy Schmidt and grandson Jason Schmidt of Carthage, Mo. brother Pete White and wife Marva of Caney, Ks; sister Betty Wilson of South Coffeyville, Ok and twin brother Paul White of Bartlesville, Ok. And many in-laws and nieces and nephews. Pauline is preceded in death by her daughter Jannett Schmidt, sister Yvonne Bartley and her parents. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday (November 12, 2011) at the Newton Christian Church.
Interment will be at the GreenwoodCemeteryin Newton at 10:00 A.M., Monday (Nov. 14).
Friends may call at the funeral home, Friday between 1 P.M. and 9 P.M., where the family will receive friends between 6 and 8. Wilma Wohlgemuth Epp
Wilma Flaming Wohlgemuth Epp, 92, died on April 19, 2005, at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater.
The service was held April 23 at Swiss Church in Whitewater.
She was born on Nov. 7, 1912, in Lehigh to Henry D. and Agnes (Wiebe) Flaming.
On March 1, 1936, she married
Abe Wohlgemuth. He died in 1977. On May 26, 1979, she married
Edwin Epp. He died in 1995. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Swiss Church in Whitewater for many years, then joined Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church after moving to Hillsboro.
Survivors include four sons, Eldon and Jan Wohlgemuth of Whitewater, Howard and Carolyn Wohlgemuth of Hesston, Larry and Betty Wohlgemuth of Houston, Dick and Sue Wohlgemuth of Spring Grove, Minn.; a daughter, Kathy and Larry Wiebe of Whitewater; two step-sons, Norman and Roselia Epp of Hillsboro, and Alvin and Kay Epp of Bradshaw, Neb.; three step-daughters, LaVerna and Alden Quiring of Henderson, Neb., Evelyn and Dale Peterson of Clyde, Kan., and Rosalie and Roy Mays of Enid, Okla.; a brother, Waldo and Hilda Flaming of Reedly, Calif.; 48 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Memorial funds have been established for the Parkview building fund and the Swiss Church building fund.

Robert E. Conner
(August 17, 1958 - October 9, 2011)
Robert E. Conner, 53, died Sunday (October 9, 2011) in Newton.
He was born on August 17, 1958 in Huntington Park, Calif., the son of Arlen and Barbara Dietz Conner. He graduated from high school in Fullerton, Calif.
Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1976 til 1980, moving to El Dorado, Ks., shortly after that. He married
Pamela K. Hayes on June 9, 1985. They lived in Florence and Newton.
He had worked as a lead-man for the Coleman Company for several years.
Survivors include his wife Pamela of Newton; adopted son Jedidiah Hays of Newton; step-daughter Angela Baker of Wichita; grandson Kevin Baker of Newton; father Arlen Conner; brothers Richard and Mark Conner; sister Doreen Nash all of Fullerton, Calif.
Robert is preceded in death his mother; sons Scott, Carl and Robert; step-son Brian Gross.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday (October 26, 2011) at the HillcrestCemeteryin Florence, Ks.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2001) at the funeral home between 9am and 8pm.
