Obituary: Patty Jean Annis, 72, Manhattan, KS passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2006 in the Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan.
She was born December 19, 1933 at Macel, MS, the daughter of James Wister Smith and Nookie Warford Smith. She grew up on a farm in the Macel community and attended the local schools. In 1955, she received her B.S. degree in Home Economics Education from the Mississippi State University for Women at Columbus, MS and in 1957 a M.S. degree in Household Equipment from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
She was an instructor at Florida State University and the University of Texas for a short time before coming to Manhattan to teach in the College of Home Economics, Dept. of Family Economics, at K-State in 1958. She was with the Agricultural Experiment Station from 1961-1984; Acting Department Head, Dept. of Family Economics, in 1972; Assistant Professor, Dept. of Family Economics, 1961-1985; and Assistant Professor, Dept. of Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design from 1985 until she retired in 1997, earning the title of Associate Professor Emeritus of Human Ecology.
She was the author or co-author of numerous professional publications and performed research on indoor air pollution and its controls for the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Consumers Union.
She was united in marriage to Jason C. Annis on August 6, 1961 at Manhattan. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Annis attended the First Lutheran Church, Manhattan and held professional memberships in the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and received the “Best Research Paper” award with the Association of Home Equipment Educators (AHEE).
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Annis is survived by a son, Judd C. Annis, Merriam, KS; a daughter, Melissa L. Parkhurst, M.D., and her husband, Brian, Lenexa, KS; a sister, Barbara A. Wright, Madison, AL; and two grandchildren, Aiden and Dylan Parkhurst.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 24, 2006 in the First Lutheran Church, Manhattan with the Rev. Dr. Keith E. Wiens officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.

Obituary: Lee “Epidemic” A. Mitchell, 61, McPherson, KS passed away Friday, April 7, 2006 in a McPherson nursing home.
He was born July 5, 1944 in Mississippi to Rosie Allen. He was united in marriage to Ethel Jones. They were later divorced.
Survivors include a son, Sidney Neumann, Maryland; two step-sons, Ross Jones, Manhattan and Moe Bell, Junction City, KS; two brothers, Gary Lindsey, Topeka, KS and Eric Brown, Manhattan; two sisters, Eva Williams of Texas and Kimberly Lamb, Topeka; and a host of nephews and nieces.

Obituary: Marie Sack, 88, Manhattan, KS passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006 in the St. Joseph Village, Manhattan.
She was born November 27, 1917 at Soldier, KS, the daughter of Barney Flanary, Sr. and Elba Perry Flanary. She grew up in the Maple Hill and St. Marys, KS area, where she attended schools and was a graduate of the Maple Hill High School.
She was united in marriage to Carol R. Sack on April 12, 1944 at St. Marys. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1989.
Mrs. Sack was a homemaker and a member of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Mary Matron’s Club in the Zeandale community. She had been a Manhattan resident since 1947.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Barney Flanary, Jr.; and a sister, Irene Ames.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth C. Sack, Manhattan; a brother, Harold Flanary, St. Marys, KS; and two sisters, Frieda Kemble, Maple Hill, KS and Lois Clark, Topeka, KS.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 5, 2006 in the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Manhattan with Father Joseph Popelka as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.

Obituary: Catherine Ann Cool, 74, Manhattan, KS passed away Friday, March 31, 2006 at her home.
She was born September 6, 1931 at Rockford, NE, the daughter of Donald K. Bangs and Lucille M. Mason Bangs. She grew up in Montrose, KS, where she attended the local schools and was a 1949 graduate of the Montrose High School. She later attended Wichita State University, Wichita, KS. She taught schools at Jewell, KS and Concordia, KS, and after moving to Manhattan in 1960, taught at the Ogden Grade School for a year.
She was united in marriage to John W. (Bill) Cool on August 7, 1960 at Manhattan. He survives at the home.
Mrs. Cool was a homemaker. She worked part-time at the K-State Ticket Office and was active in the Manhattan Bowling Association, Ladies Golf Association and was the secretary for the Stagg Hill Golf Club. Other memberships included the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as an usher, offering counter and volunteered in the Food Pantry and the Heartland Shares Food Program. Her hobbies included playing bridge, golf, boating, bowling, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She also was an avid KSU football and basketball fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Donald E. Bangs.
In addition to her husband, Catherine is survived by two daughters, Lisa Marie Miller, and her husband, Eric, Banks, OR and Linda Catherine Walters, and her husband, William, Aurora, CO; two sisters, Marjorie Murray, and her husband, Melvin and Mary Powell, all of Mankato, KS; and four grandchildren, Shannon Renee Miller, Justin Michael Miller, Matthew Chase Walters and Zachary Reece Walters.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 3, 2006 in the First United Methodist Church, Manhattan with the Rev. Jim Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Memorial Gardens, Manhattan.

Obituary: Ralph E. Feldkamp, 84, Manhattan, KS passed away Sunday, March 26, 2006 in the Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan.
He was born June 13, 1921 at Lincoln, KS, the son of Harry T. Feldkamp and Minnie Anna Agnes Kottman Feldkamp. He attended schools in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1939. He attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, KS from Sept. 1939 until receiving his diploma in Sept. 1940. After working for one month in Great Bend, KS, he accepted employment with the U.S. Government War Dept., Civil Service in Washington, D.C. in October 1940. There in August 1941, he met Ileen Schmitt who worked for the same branch of the War Department. After a wonderful courtship, they were married on April 25, 1942 in Mount Vernon Place, Methodist Church, Washington, D.C.
Ralph enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in September 1942 as an aviation cadet. He then transferred to serve as a U.S. Army Courier in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and was reassigned to Africa-Middle East Theater of Operation, Cairo, Egypt in December 1944. He served as Postmaster in HQ, AMCT, Cairo, Egypt and returned to the United States in January 1946. He was honorably discharged January 3, 1946 in Jefferson Barracks, MO with the rank of Sergeant. He accepted reemployment with the U.S. Army Civil Service at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas in March 1946. In December 1950, he transferred to Ft. Riley, KS, where he served as Chief Clerk at the U.S. Army Commissary, Accounting Branch until 1952 when he resigned to enter private business as a restaurant manager with Ileen’s parents in Manhattan. In 1958, he returned to Ft. Riley. He served as Supply Officer at Army Aircraft Maintenance Shop; Chief of Stock Records Branch, Post Supply Branch; Management Analyst, Office of Comptroller; and Position and Pay Management Specialist, Civilian Personnel Office, until his retirement in 1979 after 31 ˝ years of service.
After retirement, Ralph was associated with Thomas Murphy Co. as a Sales Associate for promotional products and later with JII Sales Promotions Associates and Lee Wayne Corporation until his retirement in 2004.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ileen, on August 25, 2004; his parents; a brother, Harold D. Feldkamp, Leavenworth, KS; and one grandson, Alan Emerson Feldkamp of Port Arthur, TX. Ralph and Ileen were both employed at Ft. Riley and both were active in numerous Masonic and affiliated organizations along with other civic and fraternal organizations for many years.
Both Ileen and Ralph received the Golden Cloak Award for distinguished service in the Job’s Daughter, Grand Council of Kansas, International Order of Job’s Daughters. He was initiated in the Belle Point Masonic Lodge in Ft. Smith, Arkansas on June 28, 1949. He transferred to Lafayette Lodge No. 16, Manhattan on May 16, 1952, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1983. He received his 50-year membership award in 1999 with the Masonic Lodge and was honored as Mason of the Year in 1999 in Lafayette Lodge No. 16. He was made a Royal Arch Mason on March 23, 1977 in Manhattan Chapter No. 14. He served as Excellent High Priest in 1983. He was made a Royal and Select Master on Janaury 10, 1977 in Marysville Council No. 19, Marysville, KS, where he served as Illustrious Master in 1987. He was made a Knight Templar on April 7, 1977 in Oriental Commandry No. 48, Manhattan and served as Eminent Commander in 1984. He was elected to receive the distinguished title of Knight of the Covenant General, Knights of the York Cross of Honor (KYCH) on May 22, 1988, Kansas Priory No. 555. Ralph served as Grand Sword Bearer in 1987, Grand Lodge of Kansas A.F. & A.M. He was a member of Manhattan Chapter No. 209, O.E.S. and had served as Worthy Patron on several occasions.
Ralph served as Associate Bethel Guardian of Bethel 55, Job’s Daughter in Manhattan from 1967 to 1972. He was elected Associate Grand Guardian IOJD of Kansas for 1973-1974. He served as Associate Chairman of Grand Bethel of Kansas, Board of Directors in 1977-1978. He was a life member of Lee Pierson V.F.W. Post No. 1786, Manhattan and was honored as a member of the All-American Post Commander’s Team in 1972. He was Past Commander of Fourth District, Dept. of Kansas VFW and Department Surgeon, Kansas VFW. He was a life member of Pearce-Keller American Legion Post No. 17, Manhattan. Other affiliated Masonic Bodies were Scottish Rite 32, (life member) and ISIS Shrine, (life member) and Kansas Priory No. 33, KYCH (life member) all of Salina; Knights of Red Cross of Constantine and Ancient Toltec Order, both of Topeka; Order of High Priesthood, Royal Archmens; Order of the Silver Trowel, Council Past Commanders Assn; Commandry; Manhattan Shrine Club; Manhattan Tin Lizzie Shrine Parade Unit; and the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald E. Feldkamp, and his wife, Marilyn, Manhattan and Thomas A. Feldkamp, and his wife, Cathy, Surry, ME; two daughters, Carolyn S. Cloud-Diles, and her husband, Albert, Leslie, AR and Cindy M. McClellan, and her husband, Bo, Port Neches, TX; eight grandchildren, Tami, Christopher and Valerie Feldkamp, Ryan and Matthew Cloud, Paul, John and Mark Pierce; and two great grandchildren, Isaac Cloud and Aliyah Washburn.
Funeral services, with Eastern Star committal services, will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2006 in the First Presbyterian Church, Manhattan with the Rev. R. C. “Cam” McConnell officiating. Burial, with military and Masonic committal services, will follow in the Sunset Cemetery, Manhattan.

Obituary: David Leon Padgett was born January 31, 1941 in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of James and Eunice Padgett. He passed away Saturday, March 18, 2006 after an extended illness.
David Padgett spent his childhood in Manhattan and attended local schools. He graduated with the class of 1960 from Manhattan High School. He was a lifetime resident of Manhattan and a skilled brick-stone mason. His work was his passion in life and he was truly a master craftsman.
David Padgett was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and a brother: Nadine Demmitt, April Padgett, an infant sister and Norman Padgett.
Survivors include a son, Jason and wife, Morgan of Topeka, Kansas and daughter, Tammy Lovelace of Lubbock, Texas; grandsons: Mason Padgett and Garrett Lovelace; three brothers: Lawrence Padgett of Kansas City, MO, Jim Padgett of St. George, KS, Tom Padgett of Fort Collins, CO and half-brother, Billy Graham; four sisters: Linda Brandenburg of Riley, KS., Viola St. Louis of Crystal Lake, MI, Lora Padgett Schmidt of Kansas City, MO, and Donna Bradley of Omaha, NE; many nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved friend, Sharon Pultz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the American Cancer Society or to the VFW Post #1786 in care of the David Padgett Relief Fund. This fund was established and named in David’s honor to help our fellow veterans and others in need.
David enjoyed having morning coffee with his friends. Besides being an avid Kansas State sports and Nascar fan, he took great pleasure in donating his skills to the VFW Post #1786 Men’s Auxiliary for charity benefits. Most of all he cared deeply for his family and friends and was always available to give a helping hand.
Mr. Padgett was cremated. There will be a family visitation at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan on Friday, March 24th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

She was born August 29, 1962 at Detroit, MI, the daughter of Charles Hunter and Marion Wheeler. She grew up in Detroit where she attended the local schools and was a 1981 graduate of the Cody High School.
She was united in marriage to Kal J. Robinson on August 11, 1984 in Detroit. He survives of the home.
Veronica worked as a licensed nail technician had been a Manhattan area resident since 1988.
In addition to her husband, Veronica is survived by a daughter, Marion; grandchildren, E Moni’ and Javontte’; father, Charles; step mother, Joyce; sisters, Marsha, Donna and Chelsea; brothers, Charles Williams, Dion, Charles Hunter, Jr., Gary, Timothy and Charles Hunter III; step brother, Kwame Brengettcy; step sisters, Givoka Stewart and Tasha Brengettcy; mother-in-law Patricia Robinson; father-in-law, Willard Robinson; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
