Anna Korobka
Anna Korobka, 88, of Newton, died Nov. 1, 2006 at Newton Medical Center.
She was the mother of Switlana Briar of Hesston.
The family had a Trisagion service on Nov. 3 at the funeral home.
The funeral service was on Nov. 4 in the Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Paul O’Callaghan officiating.
Burial was in GreenwoodCemeteryin Newton.
She was born on July 1, 1918, in Kuban, Russia, to Paul and Palachaia (Haponova) Mechetnaya.
She married
Tony Korobka in Regensburg, Germany.
He preceded her in death.
She had been a resident of Newton since 1954, after coming to the United States in 1951 from Germany.
She was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral in Wichita.
Other survivors include another daughter, Luba and Gerald Brinkman of Peabody; two sons, Victor of Newton and George and Virginia of Hays; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her death were her parents, seven sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established with St. George Orthodox Cathedral.

Hazel Black
Hazel A. Black, 92, died June 2 at Schowalter Villa.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Schowalter Villa Chapel with Beverly Baumgartner officiating.
Burial will be at the Kechi Cemetery.
She was born Jan. 25, 1914, to Selburn and Nona (Jockers) Sneed in Carrollton, Ark.
On Dec. 2, 1935, she was married
to Gerald D. Black, who predeceased her in January.
Survivors include a son, Ronald and Linda Black of Valley Center; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Halfmann of Wichita.
A memorial fund has been established with Schowalter Villa in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
Hazel Schmidt
Hazel May Myers Ewert Schmidt, 85, a former resident of Hesston, died June 2 in a traffic accident on U.S. Highway 50 near Walton.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 8, at Faith Mennonite Church in Newton.
She was born June 11, 1920, in Niles and was adopted in 1922 by Gerhard and Helena Ewert of Hillsboro.
She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1938.
She was a nurse, homemaker and professional seamstress.
She was a member of Faith Mennonite Church in North Newton.
On May 5, 1941, she married
Harold D. Schmidt, who survives in North Newton.
She is also survived by a daughter, Christy and Vince Painter of Derby; a sister, Ethel and Norman Abrahams of North Newton; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were four brothers, Jacob, Henry, Gerhard and David Ewert; and five sisters, Anna Bartel, Sara Plenert, Elizabeth Wollmann, Marie Regier and Martha Hodel.
A memorial has been established with the Mennonite Central Committee in care of Miller Funeral Home in Hesston.
Loyd E. Dighero
(August 13, 1924 - October 18, 2011)
Loyd Eugene Dighero,87, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 ath the Galacia Heart Hospital in Wichita, Ks.
Services will be held on Monday, October 24, at 10:00 A.M., at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends prior to service time.
Graveside services and interment will be held at the National Cemetery, Fort Scott, KS, at 2:30 PM.
Loyd was born August 13, 1924, in Liberal, MO to Mable Clare (Spurling) and John Dominic Dighero, the fifth child of seven.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Johnie, Dean, and Herb Dighero; Two sisters, Mary Morrow and Margie Metcalf; his first wife of 50 years, Blanche I. Jennings Dighero on February 19, 1993 and second wife Aileen E. Jordan Butler Dighero on August 24, 2007.
Loyd is survived by his brother, George Dighero, Lamar, MO, a daughter, Linda Luzier (Bill), Newton, KS; two grandchildren, Butch Luzier (Tina), Heston,KS, Sarah Monaghen (Sean), Newton, KS; five great-grandchildren.
Loyd was a small business man in Fort Scott, KS, having owned two service stations, before becoming a member of Fort Scott Fire Department. He was also employed by the Coca Cola Bottling Company.
Loyd was a member of the Lions Club; Masonic Lodge in Fort Scott; Fort Scott Scottish Rite; Mirza Shrine Temple in Pittsburgh, KS.
Loyd also made his home in Newton where he spent many years and was employed by the Newton School District.
He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Loyd's love of life and people brought much joy to those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Whether it was his business associates, hunting buddies, or just watching football with family and friends. He loved it all.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been made in his name to the Transportation Fund of Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg, Ks., contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.

Lucas Bartel
Lucas A. “Luke” Bartel, 87, died May 30 at Newton Medical Center.
He was born on Sept. 26, 1918, in Harvey County to Abraham and Amalia (Auernheimer) Bartel.
He was a lifetime area resident.
He graduated from Hesston Academy.
He was a farmer and former employee of the American Coach in Newton.
He was a member of the Garden Community Church in rural Moundridge.
On Nov. 14, 1942, he married
Dorothy Stucky at Moundridge.
She died in 1998.
Survivors include a son, Douglas of Aurora, Colo.; a son-in-law, Marvin Groote of Sandy, Utah; a sister, Amanda Voran of Hesston, and a special friend, Lurena Neufeld of Hesston; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a daughter, Susan Groote, and a brother, Leonard Bartel.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 2, at Moundridge Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at Garden Church, with Rev. Greg Holmes officiating.
Burial will be in the Garden Church Cemetery.
