Jon Harrell, O.D., 60, died Jan 1 at his home in Great Bend. He was born July 25, 1945 at Pratt, the son of Dennis and Jacqueline (Flanders) Harrell. He married
Cheryl Russell on Aug. 21, 1965 at Wichita. He was a resident of Great Bend since 1989, coming here from Larned. Harrell was an optometrist. He was a member of The Father's House, Hutchinson, where he served as a deacon; Kansas Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, Alcoholics Anonymous, and he was a Victory Latin American Outreach Missionary. Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, Jerome F. Harrell and wife, Bonnie, of Wichita; two daughters, Susan Aistrup and husband Paul, of Larned, and Laura Arbuckle and husband, Curtis, of Aurora, Colo.; father, Dennis Harrell of Wichita; one brother, David Harrell of Wichita; one sister, Denise Seeley of Kettle Falls, Wash.; one aunt, Doris Drew of Wichita; and six grandchildren, Patrick and Katelyn Harrell, Ethan Aistrup and Jared Aistrup, and Audrey and Alyssa Arbuckle. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline Harrell. Funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home with Bishop Quintin Moore officiating; and a memorial service is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday at The Father's House, 1505 E. 20th Avenue in Hutchinson. Virgil L. Byerly, 80, formerly of Great Bend, died Dec. 29 at Medical Lodge of Kinsley. He was born May 30, 1925, in Leon, the son of Harry and Fronia Mane (Payne) Byerly. He married
Beverly Joan Cochran. She died Feb. 16, 2001. He was an oilfield worker, and a resident of Kinsley. Byerly was in the U.S. Army. Survivors include one son, Roger L. Byerly of Oakley; two daughters, Rosalie Arnette Fansler of Oakley, and Vida Kay Davis, of Italy, Texas; two sisters, Peggy Fansler, of Lyons, and Betty Burton of Great Bend; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Byerly and Walter Byerly, and two sisters, Juanita Milam and Mary Grant. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Great Bend cemetery with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard and with the Rev. Don Paden officiating. Leo Steiner Feb. 4, 1929, at Beaver. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1975. A lifetime resident of the Redwing-Hoisington area, she was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both of Hoisington. She was homemaker. Survivors include one son, Larry Steiner of Hoisington; three daughters, Gladys Byers of Hoisington, Bernadine Muller of New Orleans, La., and Joyce Steiner-McBroom of LakeWaukomis, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Harold Steiner; two sons-in-law, Paul Muller and Roy Byers; one granddaughter, Sharon Byers; six brothers, Nick, Matt, Ben, Leo, Rudy and Lawrence Meyeres; and two sisters, Mame Kaiser and Cecelia Kallaus. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today with the vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by an Altar Society Rosary, all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. RUSSELL - Wilma Hazel Campbell, 79, died Dec. 27 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. She was born July 27, 1926, at Berryville, Ark., the daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Cheeseman) Barker. She graduated from Russell High School. She married
Gail W. Campbell on Oct. 7, 1944, at Wichita. She was a homemaker, worked as a waitress for many years, assisted with the operation of the Service Station in New Mexico, and was a bookkeeper. Survivors include her husband, of the home; five sons, Edward Campbell of Moriarty, N.M., Jack Campbell of Long Beach, Calif., Rich Campbell of Los Angeles, Calif., Mark Campbell of Bremerton, Wash., and Casey Campbell of Edgewood, N.M.; two daughters, Cheryl Voos of Russell, and Julita Biles of Hoisington; two sisters, Sybil Hayes of Wamego, and Pauline Bender of Russell; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, three sisters, and one grandson. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Russell City cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. WAGONER, Okla. - Carol Swenson, age 69, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, in Wagoner, Okla. Carol was born May 6, 1936, in Alden, to Herman and Louise (Adams) Estabrook. After receiving her education Carol met, and later married
, Arthur Paul Swenson on Sept. 14, 1955. Carol worked as a homemaker, and together they raised their family of three daughters. Carol lived in Gilcrest, Colo., where she began to work as a CNA and a Phlebotomist for the North Colorado Medical Center from 1986-2001. Carol enjoyed taking care of her family, and in her spare time she enjoyed bowling. Carol was on several different bowling leagues and was even a part of a bowling championship held in Nevada. In 2001 Carol moved to Wagoner, Okla., to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Carol was both a people and animal lover. She enjoyed being surrounded by the love of her family and friends, and the company of her many pets. She will be deeply missed by all those blessed to have known her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Louise Estabrook, and her husband Arthur Paul Swenson. Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Teresa Casey and her husband Paul of Milton, Wash., Camille Peck and her husband Brian of Wagoner, Okla., and Michelle Sagakhaneh and her husband Mohammad of Manchester, Mo.; five grandchildren, Shanan Smith, Amanda Rotert, Zachary Casey, Victoria Casey and Amir Sagakhaneh; two great grandchildren, Austin and Chelsea Peck. She is also survived by other relatives and dear friends who are sure to miss her. A memorial service in honor of Carol is scheduled in Alden at a later date. Adam J. Braun on May 13, 1929, at Victoria. He died Feb. 28, 1991. She spent her lifetime in the Victoria area. She and her husband were caretakers of St. Fidelis cemetery, Victoria, for 34 years. She was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church and St. Fidelis Christian Mothers both Victoria. Survivors include two sons, Alfred 'Fritz' Braun and his wife Anita of Victoria; Robert Braun of Hays; four daughters, Rubina Ziegler and her husband, Leo of Hays; Juliana Urban and her husband, Paul and Albertina 'Tina' Geist, all of Victoria, Charlene Unrein and her husband Frank, of Gorham; four brothers, Alfred 'Fred' Rohr of Victoria, Nick Rohr of Gorham, Victor Rohr of Ellsworth, and Alvin Rohr of ElDorado; one sister, Clarita Braun of Victoria; 27 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, and 8 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Robert Rohr and Cyril Rohr; three sisters, Odilla Rohr, Agnes Gross, Philomena 'Minnie' Braun; one infant brother, Nicholas Rohr; one son Alvin Braun; one infant daughter, Rose Ann Braun; one grandchild, Donald Leiker; one great granddaughter, Emma Caroline Vonfeldt; two sons-in-law William Geist and Wilbert Leiker; and one daughter-in-law Shirley Braun. ST. JOHN - Donald Dean Keller, 67, died Dec. 31, 2005, at Veterans Hospital in Wichita. He was born Oct. 29, 1938 at St. John, the son of Jim and Essie (Hoyt) Keller. He worked at Fort Dodge Veterans Hospital, Fort Dodge, and was a resident of St. John for five years, having moved here from Dodge City. He was a Marine Corps veteran. Survivors include one son, Danny Krankenberg of Hays; one daughter, Debbie Miller of Johnson City, Texas; one sister, Ruth Campbell of St. John; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Jewell was a member of King Memorial United Methodist Church, Great Bend. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, both of Rush Center. Survivors include one son, Gary Lyda of Twin Falls, Idaho; one daughter, Janet Herdma, of McCracken; one brother, Lewis Martinec of Lewiston, Mont.; one sister, Albena Bawden of Lewiston, Mont.; six grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. A resident of Great Bend since 1951, coming from Pratt, she was a member of First Bible Baptist Church in Great Bend. Mrs. Lamb had worked for Wiley's Department Store in Great Bend and later operated a day care in her home for 25 years and she was a homemaker. Survivors include four sons, Ronald Lee Lamb and Steven Douglas Lamb, both of Ellinwood, Stanley Dewayne Lamb of Great Bend; and Marvin Ray Lamb of Topeka; three daughters, Leona Mae Newcomb of Strong City, Lola Jean Lamb of Great Bend and Marcia Ann Harrell of Tuttle, Okla.; one sister, Dorothy 'Tempie' Repp of Coflax, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
