EMPORIA - W. Odell Wheat, 89, died Feb. 7 at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka. He was born Nov. 14, 1916, at Admire in Lyon County, the son of Oatie and Gertrude Isabell Wheat. He married
Isabel Danford at Wichita on Oct. 8, 1947. He was a rancher and cattle buyer for 40 years, and had been retired 30 years. Wheat was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Reconnaissance Company, 66th Armored Regiment, having served in World War II in the Ardennes, Central Europe, North Africa, Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Sicily. He was a life member of the Lowry-Funston Post No. 1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Emporia, and Moreland-Clayton-Edmunds-Thompson American Legion Post No. 389 in Allen. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Adel Burhenn, Great Bend; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Borth; a brother, Buster Wheat; and a sister, Marjorie Storrer. Funeral services will be conducted by his daughter, Adel Burhenn, at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Interment will be at the Memorial Lawn cemetery, Emporia, with military graveside services conducted by Lowry-Funston VFW Post No. 1980, and Ball-McColm American Legion Post No. 5. SE WARD - Norbert Krampe, 93, died Feb. 6 at the Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. He was born May 12, 1912, in Rice County, the son of Bernard and Dina Deuser Krampe. He married
Luella Heinz on April 24, 1946, at Bushton. A resident of Seward most of his life, he was a farmer. Krampe was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army. He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Seward, a former member of the Radium CO-OP Board of Directors and Lincoln Township Board of Directors. Survivors include his wife, Luella Krampe of the home; two sons, Don Krampe of Seward, and Lynn Krampe and wife Susan of Great Bend; one daughter, Corinne Baldwin and husband Richard of McCracken; one sister, Elinor Krampe of Hutchinson; four grandchildren; Dena Ridgeway, Brian Krampe, Pamela David and Roger Baldwin; and one great grandchild; Lily David. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ben Krampe, Bill Krampe, and Frank Krampe; and seven sisters, Josephine McKee, Kathryn McGlynn, Elizabeth Krampe, Clara Krampe, Sophia Krampe, Helen Koch and Frances Huslig. OVERLAND PARK - Leo Steinert, 94, died Feb. 7 at Rose Estates Assisted Living in Overland Park. He was born April 15, 1911, at Milberger, the son of Emanuel and Lydia Whittman Steinert. He married
Louise E. Timken on Aug. 19, 1934, at Bison. She died Jan. 19, 2000. He was co-owner of Steinert Furniture with his wife Louise for over 50 years. He was a lifetime Barton and Russell county resident. Steinert was a member of First United Methodist Church, Noon Lions CLub and Great Bend Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include one son, Dale L. and wife Nola Steinert of Clinton, Iowa; one daughter, Norma L. Moffet of Overland Park; one grandson; one granddaughter; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland and Hubert Steinert; one step-brother, Lewis Steinert; and one step-sister, Viola Darby. Floyd Alfred Treece, 91, died Feb. 4 at his home in Great Bend. He was born April 27, 1914, at Leslie, Ark., the son of Noah Christopher and Aulsie (Griffin) Treece. He married
Edith June Smith on Nov. 14, 1940, at St. John. He was an auto mechanic for Gilmore Osborne Motor Company in St. John. He was a resident of St. John from 1936 to 1941, and of Great Bend from 1941 to present. Treece was a member of the First Christian Church in Great Bend, where he was a Deacon Emeritus. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Corps from 1942 to 1945. Survivors include his wife, Edith, of the home; one son, Randall Treece of Wichita; and one sister, Maxine Davis of San Diego, Calif. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Treece; two brothers, Lloyd and Cedric Treece; and two sisters, Hazel Staton and Gladys Torrance. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. William Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Fairview Park cemetery in St. John. MACKSVILLE - Neva J. Nelson, 88, died Feb. 2 at Life Care Center in Cheyenne, Wyo. She was born Aug. 22, 1917, in Haskell, the daughter of Fred and Iva (Chase) Anderson. She graduated from Macksville High School in 1937. She married
Paul Nelson on May 23, 1937. A longtime resident of Macksville, she was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, Alan; three brothers, Don of McPherson, Arden of Stockton, Calif., and Alvin of Yuba City, Calif.; one sister, Dorothy Patterson of Ripon, Calif.; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Albert; and one sister, Vera Gorrell. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Farmington cemetery in Macksville, with the Rev. Harold Wilcox officiating. Visitation will be today from 1-5 p.m. at Minnis Chapel in Macksville. Rose Wilhemina Naylor, 95, died Feb. 4 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. She was born April 10, 1910, at Olmitz, the daughter of Thomas and Camilla Klein Machal. She married
T. S. 'Spud' Naylor on May 22, 1928, at Dodge City. He died in 1950. She lived in Great bend until 1956, when she moved to Denver, Colo. In Denver she was an insurance representative and legal secretary. She was known in Great Bend as the owner/operator of 'Spuds' Hideaway located on West Tenth Street in the late forties and early fifties. She returned to Great Bend in 2001 to live with her son, Terry and daughter-in-law, Karen Naylor. Mrs. Naylor was a member of the Catholic Community of Great bend at St. Rose. Survivors include one son, Terry Naylor and wife Karen of Great Bend; one grandson, Kevin Naylor of Tokyo, Japan; and one granddaughter, Taryn Naylor of Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles L. Naylor and Jan Allen Naylor; one brother, Joe Machal; and one sister, Adella Brenner. Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Great Bend cemetery, with Father Reginald A. Urban officiating. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place. Joyce J. Kaiser on Aug 25, 1954 in Great Bend. He was a lifetime resident of Barton County, as a farmer. Mr. Schiller was a member of the Catholic Community of Great at St. Patrick. He was a member of the Sunflower Polka Club also of Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home, one son Paul Joseph Schiller and wife Lynn, one daughter, Ruth Ann Bealer and husband Richard all of Great Bend; four grandchildren, Lisa Schiller, Jenni Schiller, Zach Bealer, and Ryan Bealer. He is preceded in death by two brothers William and Charles Schiller, two sisters Marie Roberts and Frances Kirmer. A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Reginald A Urban presiding. Interment will follow at the Great Bend cemetery. She was born Oct. 17, 1915 on the Charles Stark farm northeast of Macksville, the daughter of William Phillip Helwig and Ardana A (Hardie) Helwig. She attended school at Valley Center and Hickory Ridge School in Stafford County, and graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1934. She attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson and from 1964 to 1966 attended Fort Hays State College . She married
Henry Clay Fenwick, Jan. 1, 1938 in Eldorado, Kan. He died Nov. 11, 1948. She then married
Blackburn Lightle, in Osborne, Nov. 18, 1961. He died May 25, 1962. She then married
Edgar T. Preston, in Macksville, on Nov. 23, 1972. He died June 4, 2002. She lived in Ulysses, Osborne, Hays and Macksville. She worked as a dental assistant, postal clerk, veterinarian assistant, clerk of the Board of Education, and secretary for USD 351. Mrs. Preston was a member of the Macksville Christian Church, Grace Methodist Church, U.M.W. Eastern Star, and Kansas Secretarial Association. Survivors include sons Kenneth and Larry, Dr. Richard Preston, David Preston, Michael K. Preston, Dr. Kevin L. Richard Wayne Steinman on Feb. 8, 1938. He preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1997. She was a longtime resident of St. John, a homemaker and nurse's aide at St. John District Hospital. Mrs. Steinman was a member of the First United Methodist Church in St. John. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Wayne Steinman, Stafford and Norman Dean Steinman, Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter, Norma Jean Ford, Kernersville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Duke, Paul, Bliss, Harold and Lloyd Wesley; five sisters, Margarette Wesley, Zazel Underwood, Barbara McQuerter, Hariet Nichols and Cleone Fradd. ELLINWOOD - Norma Louise Kohler, age 82, died Jan. 30 at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, Calif. She was born Sept. 11, 1923, in Ellinwood, the daughter of Fred and Frances (Demel) Kohler. She was a 1940 graduate of Ellinwood High School and a graduate of Adela Hale Private Secretarial School in Hutchinson. She was a resident of Ellinwood and Hutchinson and moved to San Diego in 1946. She was a legal secretary for Higgs, Fletcher and Mack in San Diego and for Martindell, Carey, Brown & Brabets in Hutchinson. She is survived by her cousins. LAS VEGAS - Daniel Brian Sanford, born June 9, 1982, in Provo, Utah, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 31 in Pittsburgh, Penn. Daniel grew up in and loved Las Vegas, Nev. He graduated from Green Valley High School, Henderson, Nev., in 2000 and graduated with a B.A. degree from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, in 2005, majoring in philosophy. He served an L. D. S. mission in the Oslo Norway Mission from 2001 to 2003. He touched the lives of many people and was beloved by his fellow missionaries. He was a zone leader. He was unusually proficient in the Norwegian language, speaking it like a native. Daniel was the son of Dr. Brian Glen and Linda (Woodfield) Sanford of Henderson, Nev. On June 23, 2005, Daniel married
his sweetheart and the love of his life, Traci Jo Summers in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a most devoted and loving husband, and Traci was a most devoted and loving wife. He was looking forward to the birth of their first son, Jack, in May 2006. In addition to his wife, Traci, and his parents, he is survived by his two sisters, Erin Melinda and Kaitlyn Olivia of Henderson, Nev. He adored them and they adored him. He is survived by his grandparents, Glen J. and Vonda (Clayson) Sanford of Las Vegas, Nev., Floyd J. and Clara (Williams) Woodfield of St. George, Utah. He is also survived by his father and mother-in-law Cliff and Janell Summers of Colorado; two brothers-in-law Shane (Angie) Summers of Colorado, Dustin (Briannie) Summers of Idaho; two sisters- in-law Stephanie Summers of Arizona, Liberty (Scott) Miller of Utah; and five nephews and three nieces. In the faIl of 2005 Daniel was admitted to law school at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. He finished his first semester with high grades. Daniel was a most handsome young man. He loved life; he loved his church; he loved his family; he loved his wife; he loved sports and loved to play golf. He was an avid supporter of the St. Louis Cardinal baseball team. Billie Luder on Aug. 18, 1945, at Paris, Texas. She survives. A resident of Hoisington for 56 years, moving from Waldo, he was a bricklayer and masonry contractor. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the US. Army. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7428, and life member of the American Legion Post No. 286, of Hoisington. He was also a life member of the Bricklayer and Allied Craftsman Union, Local No. 2, and former chairman of the Trustees of the Vine United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Billie McAlexander of the home; two sons, K.C. McAlexander and wife Suzanne of Huntingtown, Md., and Don McAlexander and wife Celeste of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Charles J.
