WAKEENEY - Lillie May Cline, 95, died Jan. 31 at the Lutheran Home in WaKeeney. She was born Aug. 8, 1910, in Pratt, the daughter of Alfred Albert and Rachel Emma (Rich) Seidel. She married
John Henry Cline on July 22, 1929, in Coldwater. He died July 18, 1979. She was a homemaker and had lived in Ness County since 1940, moving to WaKeeney in March of 2000. Mrs. Cline was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, James A. Cline of Beeler, and John Cline Jr. of WaKeeney; one daughter, Luella 'Lu' Fercking of Hoisington; one brother, Arthur Seidel of Tucson, Ariz.; and numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Jack and Jerry Cline; a daughter, Florence Stiawalt; her sisters, Faye Zansler, Cora Ritter, Louise Dodson, and Inez Wasinger; brothers, Everett, Alvin, Albert, and Alfred 'Bus' Seidel; and grandsons, John Allen Cline and Delvin Dean Fercking. Doris (McPhail) Watt

HARPER - Doris (McPhail) Watt was born in 1917 in Meade to the late William Burnett and Anna Bell Busing. Doris was adopted at the age of 11 by Barney and Ola Dinkins, of Sawyer, after being orphaned due to the death of both parents. She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters, first husband Theron (Mac) McPhail and husband Charles Watt, son Virgil (Mac) McPhail and wife Nancy, son-in-law Joseph Stos and grandson Steven Graves. Doris married
Theron (Mac) McPhail in 1934 in Purdy, Mo., and relocated to Wichita when he became affiliated with Boeing. Doris was widowed in 1955 and remained in Wichita with her four children. Ten years later she married
Charles Watt and moved to Harper, where they lovingly shared 37 years before losing Charles in 2002 in an auto accident. Since then Doris has resided in the Arkansas City area to be close to her children. Left to fondly cherish her memory are her daughters Judy Sternberger and husband Roger of Arkansas City, Sharlet McKinney and husband Bill of Ponca City, Okla., Anita Stos and partner Greg Saffa of Great Bend; two step-children, Robert Watt of Houston, Texas and Carol Babcock and husband David of Chandler, Okla.; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren; and many others who adored her. Doris was a former member of Sunnyside Baptist and Olivet Baptist in Wichita, and most recently a member of Chicaski Baptist of Harper. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Prairie Rose Funeral Home at Harper with Pastor Jim Poland officiating. Steve Butler will serve as soloist and accompany himself. Casket bearers are John McPhail, Danny McPhail, Stan McPhail, Kevin Lamont, Chad Babcock and Stan Watt. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Wichita Park cemetery, two blocks north of 21st St. on Hillside in Wichita, with Pastor Gale Rider officiating. A.J. (Al) Brockel on Dec. 26, 1945, at Hoisington. He preceded her in death on June 7, 1988. She was a homemaker and lifetime Barton County resident. Mrs. Brockel was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, past president of the Altar Society and RCIA, all of Hoisington. Survivors include one daughter, Ruth Zohner and husband Joe of Penokee; one sister, Eleanor Aylward of Hoisington; four grandchildren, Karla Hemphill and husband Kevin of Strasburg, Colo.; Anne Maxwell and husband Doug of Andale, Justin Zohner and wife Courtney of San Antonio, Texas, and Adam Zohner of Andale; and six great-grandchildren, Abbie, Natalie and Zoe Maxwell, Josie and A. J. Hemphill, and Geoffery Zohner. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Reif; and two sisters, Mathilda Brockel and Mary Finger. CLAFLIN - Albert P. Tinkel, 85, died Jan. 31 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born May 16, 1920, at Barton County, the son of Frank and Anna (Hoffman) Tinkel. He married
Laura Birzer on Nov. 27, 1945, at Saints Peter and Paul Church in rural Ellinwood. She survives. He was a farmer/stockman and road patrolman for Cleveland Township for 50 years. He was a lifetime resident of Barton County. Tinkel was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Claflin; former member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, Dubuque; former member of the Holy Name Society, Dubuque; former board of director of the Holyrood Co-op; past commander American Legion Post No. 200, Holyrood; member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7428, Hoisington; and Knights of Columbus Council No. 2630. He was a World War II veteran. Survivors include his wife Laura of the home; one son, Louis Tinkel and wife Janice of Hays; two daughters, Arlene Friedly and husband Douglas of Bonner Springs, and Alvita Cates and husband Bob of Claflin; three sisters, Elizabeth Zorn of Claflin, Anna Urban of Hoisington, and Bernice Zorn of Smith Center; six grandchildren, Shawn Tinkel, Shannon Short, Duane Friedly, Dawn Pretz, Trevor Cates and Tamara Dody; and four great grandchildren, Alex and Katie Tinkel, Ethan Short and James Smith. A resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker. A resident of Hoisington since 1952, he was the retired owner of Schneweis Construction, Schneweis Plumbing, Schneweis Bait & Tackle, and Schneweis Retail Liquor Store. Schneweis was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Hoisington. He was a World War II Army veteran. Harold D. Stone on June 22, 1953, in Ellinwood. A lifetime resident of Rice and Barton Counties, she was a postal clerk and bank teller. Stone was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Grove Park Golf Club. GIRARD - Johnnie Agnes Pyle, 87, died March 28 at the Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg. She was born March 15, 1919, in Branson, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Laura (Maddox) Rowland. She grew up and attended schools in Arma. She married
Thomas R. Pyle on April 1, 1947, at Fort Scott. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Todd Cheese Factory in Girard and the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons. She was a resident of Girard before moving to Farlington in 1953, then moved to Great bend in 1971 and then retired to Girard in 1983. Pyle was a member of the United Methodist Church in Farlington, the United Methodist Women and the Farlington Ladies Aid. Survivors include her husband, Thomas R. Pyle of Girard; two daughters, Donna Goodwin of Wichita, and Judy Brooks of Stilwell; three grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Marion Rowland in April of 1982, Claude Rowland in September of 1969, and Albert Rowland in April of 1984. Elmer William Johnson on Aug. 27, 1933, at Hobart, Ind. He passed away in February, 1983. She was a homemaker and had been a resident of Hoisington since 1995, coming from Overland Park and Hobart, Ind. She was a member of First Christian Church, Hoisington. She also volunteered as a Pink Lady at Clara Barton Hospital and participated in quilting with the sewing group at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, all of Hoisington. Survivors include one son, Allen Johnson and wife Nancy of Portage, Ind.; one daughter, Elaine (Clemens) Johnson of Hoisington; one brother, Everitt Baker and wife Mim of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Lois Wilson of Hobart, Ind.; five grandchildren, Debra Payeur and husband Robert of Olathe, Deanna Dayhuff and husband Timothy of Gerradstown, W. Joe Malek on June 29, 1943, at Olmitz. He died June 21, 1989. A resident of Barton County all of her life, she was a homemaker. Malek was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz, St. Ann Altar Society, Albert Senior Center and a volunteer at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center and Cherry Village Nursing Home. Survivors include one sister, Florence Schaffer of Great Bend; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Bahr; and four sisters, Irma Von Pessl, Matilda Spicka, Marie Maneth and Margaret Wendel. Richard 'Dick' Stremel, 86, of Great Bend, died March 25 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Oct. 18, 1919, at Loretto, the son of John R. and Susan Haberkorn Stremel. He married
Ada Smith on Aug. 20, 1971, at Great Bend. He was the owner of Dick Stremel Welding Service, retiring in 1978. He was a resident of Great Bend most of his life, coming from Loretto. Stremel was a member of the Catholic Community of Great Bend at St. Patrick, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 646, Sunflower Polka Club, and lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 180, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3111, all of Great Bend. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the South Pacific War Theatre. Survivors include his wife, of the home; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. Reginald A. Urban officiating.
