CLAFLIN - Viola Gemeinhardt, 92, died April 27 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. She was born Feb. 6 1914, in Pratt, the daughter of William Tritsch and Bertha (Stueder) Tritsch. She married
George W. Gemeinhardt on November 10, 1943. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1999. She was homemaker and resident of Claflin since 1950. Mrs. Gemeinhardt was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Claflin Survivors include one son Paul and his wife Lou Gemeinhardt of Belton Mo.; one brother Milton Tritsch of Holyrood; grandson Todd and his wife Nicole Gemeinhardt of Raymore, Mo.; one granddaughter Stacy Gemeinhardt of Ames Iowa; and one great-granddaughter Madelyn Gemeinhardt. She was preceded in death by one brother Norman Tritsch. After a committal service at the Claflin cemetery, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Sharp officiating. There will be no visitation as the casket will remain closed. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church or OZANAM both in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. CLAFLIN - May Gibler, our beloved Mother passed away at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006. She had spent the past few years in Colorado Springs with her two daughters, Shirley Meddles and Nancy Shannon. Another daughter, Betty Ptacek preceded her in death. May is also survived by three sons-in-law, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson. Her husband, August Stickney, preceded her in death after 21 years of marriage. She later married
Marvin Gibler, who also preceded her in death. May was born July 12, 1912, in Barton County to George W. and Mary Jane Boyle and lived in the general area her entire life. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Bill Boyle and one sister, Irene Boyle. Her vocation in life was first of aIl a mother and homemaker. Friends will always remember her wonderful cooking. She spent many years cooking at Centerview School. She touched many people's lives with the love of Jesus and was always a lady throughout her lifetime. We will always remember her kindness and gentle demeanor. Words cannot describe how much we will miss her. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Claflin with the Rev. Fred Kirkpatrick officiating. CLAFLIN - Edna Mildred Disque, 90, died April 27, at the Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. She was born Feb. 24 1916, in Rural Barton County, the daughter of Adam A. Disque and Margaret Caroline Radenberg. She was a retired U.S. Postal Clerk and lifetime resident of Claflin. Disque was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Holyrood, Order of the Eastern Star, Claflin, Barton County Historical Society, State Center Community Club, and Birthday Coffee Club of Claflin. Survivors include six brothers: Charles, Edgar, and Walter Disque all of Claflin, Marlin Disque of Hoisington, Herman Disque of Lyons, and Harvey Disque of Salina; two sisters Mable Flickinger of Hutchinson, Aline Howser of Chandler, Okla.; 17 nieces; 11 nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: Three sisters, Velma and Grace Disque, and Leona Welch; and two brothers Clarence and Martin Disque. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Debra Rains officiating. Burial will follow at the Claflin cemetery. Joseph R. Barrientos

LYONS - Joseph R. Barrientos, 78 years, died April 25, 2006, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born Dec. 6, 1927, at Lyons the son of John and Isidra Barrientos. A lifelong resident of Lyons, he retired from American Salt Company in 1989 after a 37 year career in salt mining. He belonged to First United Methodist Church, VFW Post 3184 and was past member of the American Legion. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 60th Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in the European Theater. As an accomplished and avid gardener, he was successful in growing numerous varieties of ornamental flowers and trees not commonly found in Central Kansas. He delighted in having unexpected visitors, especially young people, when he was working in his gardens, and always would take time to discuss his plant growing techniques. He was a prolific reader and greatly enjoyed discussions of history and current events. He was a loyal K-State football fan and attended all home games during the past several years. He is survived by his wife and best friend Della, whom he married
in Lyons on Dec.. 2, 1961. Other survivors include: Son, Bill Sanford and wife Gwyn, Naples, Fla.; six sisters, Frances Barrientos, Isabel Cadena, husband John, Beatrice Rau, Caroline Palacioz, husband Felix, Betty Harkrader, husband Ronald, all of Lyons, and Odelia Avila, Wichita; two brothers, Daniel Barrientos, Lyons, and Louis Barrientos, wife Helen, Broomfield, Colo.; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and other close friends and relatives. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Lyons, with the Revs. Gary Karas and Andrew Stover presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday at Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons. Burial will be in Lyons Municipal cemetery, Lyons, with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Ruby Jeanette Tiede, 95, of Great Bend, died April 26 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation in Great Bend. She was born April 1, 1911, at Marionville, Mo., the daughter of Daniel and Nettie (Swaney) Branstetter. She married
Ernest Tiede of Billings, Mo. He died March 27, 1979. She was a resident of Heizer since 1952, coming from Mt. Vernon, Mo., and a resident of Great Bend since 1992. She was a homemaker. Survivors include four sons, Harold Edward Tiede of Heizer, and Ray Eugene Tiede, Wallace Jay Tiede, and James Roger Tiede, all of Great Bend; two daughters, Helen Irene Tiede of Great Bend, and Jeannette Ruth Cribbs of Roswell, N.M.; one step-daughter, Ernestine Marie Butler of Republic, Mo.; one sister, Opal Cantrell of Eureka, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, William Theodore Branstetter, and Charles Howard Branstetter; two sisters, Aurelia Ann, who died in infancy, and Helen Savaria; two stepsons, Richard Tiede, and Leo Tiede; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Kay Rummel. Jay Harding Bricker

RUSSELL - Jay Harding Bricker, 85, of Russell died Monday, April 24 at the Russell Regional Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 27 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Luray cemetery. Pastor Julie Shields is officiating the service. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary in Russell. The family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Jay was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Fairport, the son of William R. and Edna Mae (Yeadon) Bricker. He grew up in Fairport and attended school there. Jay served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was with the 531st Anti-aircraft Artillery Battalion. He was involved with the Battle of the Bulge and received the Bronze Star. He was united in marriage to Ruth Wilma Petty on Aug. 20, 1946, in Salina. They lived in Lancaster, Calif., for three years, then returned to Kansas where he worked for the Double S. Ranch in Russell and for Jack Beverly Sr. in Luray and Salina. In 1961, he began working for the grain elevator in Waldo. He retired in 1985 as the manager of the Co-op. Jay was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Fairport. He also belonged to the Waldo-Paradise Lions Club and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6240 in Russell. He enjoyed reading, fishing, and spending time with his family. Surviving family include his wife, Wilma of the home; sons, Michael Bricker and wife Kathryn of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Jerry Bricker and wife Darlene of Frontenac; daughter, Susan Gaito and husband Anthony of Great Bend; brother, Melvin Bricker of McAllen, Texas; sister, Mary Katherine Slimmer of Golden, Colo.; grandchildren, Michelle Rosenberg, Daniel Bricker, Brice Gaito and Dustin Gaito; and great-grandchildren Lane and Katelynn Rosenberg. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and five brothers. A memorial has been established with the Waldo Senior Center. RUSSELL - Maurine Dutt, 92, died April 24. She was born Nov. 21, 1913, in Hoisington, the daughter of Henry and Ella Virginia 'Bagley' Vladar. She was a graduate of Hoisington High School and moved to Russell in 1931. She married
Charles B. Dutt on May 25, 1932. He died Aug. 13, 1984. She lived and worked as a beautician in Russell most of her life. Survivors include one nephew, Stephen Pilkington of Denver, Colo.; one niece, Theresa Vladar-Rathbun of Westwood; and one sister-in-law, Eileen Vladar of Russell. She was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Vladar; and one sister, Doris Pilkington. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell. Lola G. Glick
1905 -2006 PITTSBURG - Lola G. Glick, 100, of Pittsburg, died April 25 at the Vintage Place, Pittsburg. She was born June 14, 1905, at Pittsburg, the daughter of Omri Osmer and Abigail Ann Wills Lance. After graduating from Pittsburg High School in 1923, she attended Kansas State Teachers College, now Pittsburg State University, earning a Life Certificate in Music. She married
John William Glick on Nov. 1, 1930, at Fall River. He died on Oct. 30, 1955. She returned to Kansas State Teachers College in 1956 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1958. Mrs. Glick then completed her library science hours at Emporia State University in 1962. Mrs. Glick began her teaching career in Fall River. She then taught in Cherokee, Pittsburg and Arma. She taught music until she earned her hours in library science, and then set up a new library system in the school in Arma. Part of her music activities, while teaching in Arma, included directing the drum corps. She taught in the Arma School District for 17 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women's Association, Pittsburg Treble Clef Club, a sponsor of the Junior Treble Clef Club, served on the State of Kansas Board of School Librarians, United Commercial Travelers, Retired Teachers Association, was a former Girl Scout Leader, and a committee member of the William Allen White State selective committee for elementary school reading program. Survivors include a son, John W. Glick Jr. of Leesburg, Fla.; four daughters, Gretchen Glick Gahagan of Ottawa, Janice Glick McGregor of Pittsburg, Phyllis Glick Cheek of Bradenton, Fla., and Marcia Glick Johnson of Great Bend; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Lance Glennon. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg with the Rev. Thomas Sims of the church officiating. Adam L. Gross on May 4, 1934, at Bazine. He preceded her in death. A lifetime resident of the Bazine area, moving to Clinton in August of 2004, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Gross was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bazine. Survivors include one son, Larry C. Gross of Clinton, Mo.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Kleweno; and one brother, Harold Meyer. LARNED - Ralph F. Johnson, 83, died April 21 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born in June of 1922, at rural Garfield, the son of Carl and Cora Mae McDawell Johnson. He married
Wanda Arlyne Hall on Nov. 2, 1947. She died Dec. 22, 2003. A lifetime Larned resident, he was water superintendent for the City of Larned. Johnson was a member of the United Methodist Church in Larned; Larned Fire Department for 43 years and fire chief from 1979 to 1999; and the National Rifle Association. He was a World War II veteran serving in the European and Panama theaters. Survivors include three sons, Thomas Johnson of Larned, Brian Johnson of Great Bend, and Roger Johnson of Pawnee Rock; two daughters, Marlyn Perez and Becky Kwiatkowski-Gabel, both of Larned; one sister, Lois Grandon of Enid, Okla.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by one son, Gary Marc Johnson, and one brother, Edwin Johnson. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned, with the Rev. HAYS - Shawn M. Cook, 33, died April 15 at his home in Hays. He was born Sept. 8, 1972, in Wichita, the son of Dennis E. Cook and Ann Spacil. He married
Nicole Schafer on June 8, 2002, at Hays. He was a teacher and coach at TMP-Marian High School and also a teacher at Holy Family Catholic Grade School, both in Hays. He was a 1991 graduate of Larned High School and a 1996 graduate of Fort Hays State University. Funeral services were held April 20, 2006, in Hays. He was cremated. Shawn will be laid to rest Friday, April 28, at the Lakin-Comanche cemetery in Ellinwood. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, officiated by the Rev. Charles Mazouch.
