CIMARRON - Jay M. Fields, 45, died Wednesday, May 3 at Lenexa. He was born June 11, 1960, at Syracuse, the son of Merle and Selma (Brehm) Fields. He grew up in Holcomb and moved with his family to Missouri in 1975. Jay was a graduate of Birchtree Mountain View High School in Mountain View, Mo. He married
Tosha Salem on Oct. 12, 1985 in Cimarron. A Cimarron resident he was the owner and operator of Fields Trucking in Cimarron. He was a member of National Rifleman's Association. Survivors include his wife, Tosha Fields of Cimarron; four sons, William Fields and Ben W. Shumate, both of Great Bend, Jeremy Fields and Zachary Fields, both of the home; three daughters, Shaminy Clone and Jayne L. Shumate, both of Great Bend, and Lindsay Fields of the home; his mother, Selma Brown of Syracuse; two brothers, Joe Fields of Pueblo, Colo., and John Fields of Mountview, Mo.; and grandchildren, Damien A. Clone, Domynick A. Clone, Shelby M. Fields, Hadleigh R. Thorne-Shumate, Sara M. Fields, Mario B. Leon-Fields, Aaron B. Shumate and Bradley A. Shumate. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Cimarron from noon to 8 p.m today. Funeral service will be held at the First Christian Church of Cimarron at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6 with Mr. David Johnson presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron cemetery in Cimarron. TOPEKA - Katherine Malone, 88, of Topeka, died May 3 in her residence. She was born Sept. 23, 1917 in Rice County the daughter of Thomas and Doris Kahler Buss. She graduated from Chase High School in 1935. She married
Anthony Link on January 12, 1937 in Chase. He died August 24, 1952. She married
Francis Malone on Nov. 16, 1956 in Chase. He died June 26, 1987. She was a resident of Topeka for 11 years after moving from Great Bend. She was a retired nurse at Lyons District Hospital and a volunteer at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, and St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. Mrs. Malone was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Chase; Catholic Community of Great Bend at St. Patrick, Most Pure Heart in Topeka, St. Mary's Altar Society, St. Patrick Altar Society, V.F.W. Post 3111 Auxiliary and Center Kansas Medical Center Auxiliary. Survivors include two sons Dean Link and wife Brenda of Topeka, Anthony (Tony) Link and wife Mary Jane of Midland Ga.; three daughters Kay Armburst and husband Sam Feist of Arkansas City, Dorothy Lamb and husband Marvin, of Topeka, Nina Malone Svoboda and husband Steve of Laguna Nigel, Calif.; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, Thomas Link. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend with Father Ted Stoecklein presiding. TOPEKA - Helen F. Stallings, 85, Topeka, died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at Aldersgate Village, Topeka. Mrs. Stallings was a homemaker, bridge teacher, avid golfer, school teacher, and a manager at the Kansas Department of Labor, Employment Security Division, from which she had retired. She was born Jan. 21, 1921, to Ernest and Florence Frack Reiman on a farm near Byers and was raised there. She received a bachelor's of science degree from Kansas State University. Mrs. Stallings was a longtime active member of Lowman United Methodist Church. She married
John R. (Jay) Stallings in June, 1943, in Manhattan. Survivors include a son, Dennis Stallings, Baton Rouge, La.; two nieces, Margo Anthony, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Nancy Mason, Orlando, Fla., and a nephew, Rodney Reiman, Dodge City. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Stallings on Dec. 22, 1986, and her husband, Jay Stallings on Oct. 29, 1998. Services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at Lowman United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Mt. Hope cemetery. WILSON - Robert L. Whitmer, 94, died Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina. He was born July 3, 1911, at Dorrance, the son of George Whitmer and Anna Wenger. A lifetime resident of Dorrance, he was a farmer/stockman. He married
Cora Duryee on July 16, 1936. He was a member of the Wilson United Methodist Church, and Beulah Lodge #291 in Bunker Hill. Survivors include three sons, Richard L., Eldon L., and Lionel, all of Wilson; one daughter, Iris J. Mog of Wilson; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora R. on March 3, 1974; and one son, George M. in 1996. Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Foster Mortuary Chapel in Wilson with Pastor Kris Bair officiating. Interment was at the Dorrance City cemetery in Dorrance with Masonic Graveside Rites. Lloyd Milton Davis

BRUSH, Colo. - Lloyd Milton Davis, age 90, born March 2, 1916, in Great Bend, died April 29, 2006 in Brush, Colo., at East Morgan County Hospital. He was a member of Wellspring Baptist Church of Flagler, Colo. The son of Roy M. and Osa Ola (Price) Davis, he spent his grade school years in Hotchkiss, Colo.; middle school and most of his adulthood in Great Bend, and his last 10 years in Colorado. On Sept. 4, 1935, Lloyd married
J. Bernadine Goodman in Great Bend. They had two children, Wayne M. Davis and wife Carolyn of Akron, Colo., and Karen Sue Neighbors and husband Jack L. of Great Bend. Lloyd made most of his living as a dairyman for 20 years and he farmed for 60-plus years. He loved horses, fishing and golf in his early years. He was a former member of the United Methodist Church, Great Bend; IOOF Valley Lodge No. 95; PM's No. 18 and Encampment No. 91. He served on the school board for District No. 14 in rural Great Bend. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Bernadine; son Wayne and wife Carolyn; daughter Karen and husband Jack; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and seven step-great grandchildren. Lloyd will be buried with graveside services at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Great Bend cemetery. The family requests no flowers. LARNED - Robert 'Bob' Dean Ratliff, 77, died May 1, 2006, at St. Joseph Memorial Long Term Care in Larned. He was born July 30, 1928, at Larned, the son of Walter W. and Virginia Bell Burns Ratliff. He married
Mildred Moss on Sept. 1, 1951, at Coronado, Calif. She died Dec. 21, 1989. He married
Connie Chance on Jan. 5, 1991, at Wichita. She survives. He was a retired salesman for Rainbow for 35 years in Sacramento, Calif., moving to Larned in 1995. Ratliff was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Noon Lions Club, both of Larned; and the Elks Club No. 2103, Carmichael, Calif. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Other survivors include: two sons, Robert D. Ratliff Jr. and wife Vicki, Citrus Heights, Calif., and Ronald D. Ratliff and wife Myle, Elk Grove, Calif.; two daughters, Sonya Kay Snow and companion Jerry Harp, Elk Grove, Calif., and Janice Lynn Price and husband Randy, Citrus Heights, Calif.; two step-sons, D.J. LA CROSSE - Billy V. 'Bill' Highfill, 80, of La Crosse died Monday, May 1, 2006 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born April 22, 1926, in Cherokee, Okla., the son of Alvin Lloyd Highfill and Meron (Hays) Highfill. Mr. Highfill was a 43 year resident of Rush County, moving there from Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Highfill was a graduate of Deer Creek High School, Deer Creek, Okla., and attended Northwestern State College, Alva, Okla. Mr. Highfill owned and operated Otis Tractor, Otis, and Highfill Tractor Company, La Crosse, before his retirement. He was a member of United Methodist Church; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3147; and American Legion Post No. 0058, all of La Crosse, and K.W.H.A. Mr. Highfill was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with the Occupation Forces of Japan during World War II. He married

SALINA - Clyde 'Bill' Denney, 76, died May 1, 2006. He was born March 4, 1930, in Great Bend. Denney was a former policeman and construction worker. He retired in 2002 from his job as a maintenance and construction supervisor at KState Salina. Denney was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Ginny, of the home; son Mark Denney, of Dallas, Texas; step-daughters Cheryl Hedge and husband Troy of Royce City, Texas, and Natalie Akin of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brother Larry Denney and wife JoAnn; sisters Betty Wood and husband Charles, and Norma Wilson; six grandchildren, Molly Denney, Josh Hedge, Jeremy Hedge, Brandon Francisco, Lindsay Francisco and Ashlee Francisco, and three step grandchildren, Alex Hedge, Tyler Hedge and Olivia Hedge. RUSSELL - Martha C. Brack, 85, died April 26 at the Allen County Hospital in Iola. She was born Nov. 22, 1920. in rural Russell, the daughter of John Jacob and Amalia (Keil) Karst. She graduated from Russell High School and attended Fort Hays State College for one year where she completed her education and obtained her teaching certificate. She married
Verrel J. Brack on Sept. 19, 1943. He died on Nov. 6, 1977. She taught at Mt. Strecker school in Milberger for three years, was a riveter for Boeing during World War II, managed a cleaning service at a Russell motel for many years. She was a resident of Russell coming from Galatia and Milberger. Survivors include one son, Leon Brack of Iola; one brother, Herbert Karst of Newton; three sisters, Elsie Brack and Esther Scheuerman, both of Russell, and Elma Morgenstern of Overland Park; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vesta Faith Brack; two brothers, Albert and Paul Karst; and two sisters, Doris Koch and Clara Eacret. Funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Russell. Burial followed at HillCrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. RUSH CENTER - Ralph H. Misegadis, 95, died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in La Crosse. He was born Oct. 5, 1910, on a farm South of Rush Center in rural Rush County, the son of George Misegadis and W. Marie (Frerichs) Misegadis. Mr. Misegadis was a lifelong Rush County resident. Mr. Misegadis was a plumber's assistant before his retirement. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center; member Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3147, La Crosse. Mr. Misegadis was a member of the U.S. Army serving as a firefighter in Tinian during World War II. He received his training at Walker Air Force Base. Survivors include one brother, Dale Misegadis of Topeka; two sisters, Maud Snyder of Nashville, Tenn, and Mae Schlegel of La Crosse; two sisters-in-law, Irma Misegadis of La Crosse, and Pauline Misegadis of Bazine; and many nieces and nephews. Michael Reese
KEVIL, Ky. - A memorial service for Michael H. Reese, 59, a resident of Kevil, Ky., formerly of Holyrood, was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2006, at Grace Valley Independent Baptist Church in Kevil, Ky. Mr. Reese passed from this world at his residence at 5:55 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006. His request to be a body donor to the Genesis Gift of Life Program of the Medical Education and Research Institute in Memphis, Tenn., was accomplished. He served his country in Vietnam in the U.S. Army 1st Airborne Cavalry Division. Elmer Mull Nov. 4, 1934, in Great Bend. He died Feb. 14, 1983. She was a homemaker and lifetime resident of Great Bend. Mrs. Mull was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mini Study and Ladies Church Circle. SHAWNEE - Robert E. 'Bob' Mohr, 70, passed away on June 29, 2006, at Shawnee, Kan. Robert was born on Feb. 23, 1936, in Great Bend, Kan., the son of Carl Sidney and Zoe Vivian (Hull) Mohr. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1954. After high school he was employed as a printer at the Hutchinson News and Loewen Printing Company. In 1976, he was employed by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in literature evangelism ministry. He served as pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in the Atlanta, Iowa, District from 1992 to 1997. From 1997 until retirement in March, 2006, he was pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in the Gallatin, Mo., District. On May 15, 1977, he married
Norma Jean Field Withrow in Hutchinson, Kan., where they made their home. She survives, along with four sons from a previous marriage, Carl Mohr and his wife Karen, Redondo Beach, Calif., Scott Mohr, Lincoln, Neb., Kenneth Mohr, Spanaway, Wash., and Sam Mohr, Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Mandy Rebarchek and her husband Roger, and Melody Rockufeler and her husband John, both of Shawnee, Kan.; four brothers, Carl 'Buddy' Mohr of Pasadena, Texas, James 'Jimmy' Mohr of Woodbine, Kan., Richard Mohr of Great Bend, Kan., and Thomas "Tommy" Mohr, Houston, Texas; four sisters, Virginia Sharp of Wichita, Kan., Joyce Lofland and Rosilyn Kruckenberg, both of Great Bend, and Marilyn Kae Bird of Nashville, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
