VICTORIA - Barbara Nadine Barry Scheufler, 77, died May 31 at St. Johns Rest Home in Victoria. She was born April 27, 1929, at Chautauqua, the daughter of William Bryan Barry and Pauline Mary Sterling. She was a 1947 graduate of Ellinwood High School. She married
Max Ladan Scheufler in May 1947, at Great Bend. He died March 23, 1989. A longtime resident of Ellinwood, moving to Victoria, she was a manufacturing laborer at Fuller Brush in Great Bend. Mrs. Scheufler was a member of Ellinwood Saddle Club and Eagles Lodge of Great Bend. Survivors include one brother, Patrick Barry of Bad Vilbel, Germany; two sisters, Dorothy Churchill and Betty Wenke, both of Ellinwood; one nephew, Jerry Wenke; and three nieces, Rozann Espino, Kim Churchill, and Lonna Mead. She was preceded in death by one brother, Lonny; and one nephew, Buck Churchill. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kimple Funeral Chapel in Ellinwood with the Rev. Vernon Maelzer officiating. Charlie Moore, 66, of Great Bend died May 30, at his home in Great Bend. He was born Jan. 2, 1940, in Great Bend, the son of Benjamin and Elaine Devine Moore. He married
Judy Burgett on Nov. 26, 1960, in Great Bend. She survives. He was a lifetime resident of Great Bend, the owner of Chasmo's Greyhounds and former owner of A-1 Auto and Truck, and Consolidated Trash. Moore was a member of the Catholic Community of Great Bend at St. Rose, the Knights of Columbus in Great Bend, and a member of the National Greyhound Association. Survivors include his wife, mother and step-father Glenn Moore of Albert; two sons Michael Moore and wife Jill, Craig Moore and wife Renea, all of Great Bend; one daughter Shelley Hejny and husband Jim of Galatia; five grandchildren, Brindon Hejny, Justin Hejny, Lake Moore, Luke Moore and Raegan Moore; two step-grandchildren Daniel Immediato, and Brandy Loomis; and two step-great-grandchildren Emma Loomis and Hannah Loomis. He was preceded in death by his father Benjamin Moore and an infant son Charles Edward Moore II. Vigil services with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with the Rev. Ted Stoecklein presiding. Burial will follow at the Great Bend cemetery. ELLINWOOD - James L. Feist, 65, died July 27 at Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood. He was born July 25, 1941, in rural Ellinwood, the son of Henry L. and Margaret M. (Heinz) Feist. A graduate of Claflin High School and Fort Hays State University, he was a custodian for the past 10 years at Great Bend High School and had also worked for the Kansas State Highway Department in highway maintenance. Feist was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus No. 1187, both in Ellinwood. He was in the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include his mother of the home, four brothers, Aaron Feist of Sharon Springs, J. Alan Feist of Downs, Donald Feist of Ellinwood and Kenneth Feist of Chetopa; and a sister Marlene Feist of Great Bend. Altar Society Rosary will take place at 3 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary today at Kimple Funeral Home. MANTECA, Calif. - Raymond 'Mick' Chadd passed away July 14 at Manteca Care Center located in Manteca, Calif. He was born in Seward, Aug. 11, 1919, to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Chadd. He was raised in Seward and left in 1941 to join the Army where he stayed for four years. Most of his life he resided in Mountain View, Calif. He was a veteran of World War II. Mick was a car salesman for the majority of his life. Survivors include his brother Dean Chadd of Tulare, Calif.; a nephew Larry Chadd of Macksville; and many nieces and nephews in the California area. He is also survived by Lonnie L. Chadd of Manteca, Calif., his cousin and caregiver for the last seven years. Mick was a very special and giving person who loved deeply and cared for his family. Archie G. Allen on Jan. 1, 1963, in Windsor, Mo. She was a homemaker, living in Great Bend for three years, coming from Bozeman, Mont. Survivors include her husband of the home; a son Curtis Allen of Redmond, Wash.; and a daughter Lehanna Allen of Seattle, Wash. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place. HUTCHINSON - Delia M. Blakesley, 94, formerly of Hays, died July 27 at Dillon Living Center in Hutchinson. She was born June 15, 1912, in Alton, the daughter of James Elum and Louise Maude (Wertenburger) Bull. On June 15, 1931, she married
Vernon M. Blakesley in Holyoak, Colo. She was the deputy clerk of the District Court in Rooks County for many years, retiring in 1977. Mrs. Blakesley was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hays, the United Methodist Women and was active as a senior companion and Hadley Hospital Auxiliary volunteer. Survivors include a son Claude R. Blakesley; a daughter Louisa B. Morain; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son James Eugene Blakesley, a daughter Mary Leota Harrington and two sisters. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Jack L. Neighbors, 73, of Great Bend died July 27 at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson. He was born June 7, 1933, at Neodesha, the son of Charles Alan and Mabel Van Deventer Neighbors. He married
Karen 'Kay' Davis on June 2, 1970, in Oklahoma City, Okla. A resident of Great Bend for 35 years, coming from El Dorado, he was a self-employed chemical salesman in the oil field and later worked for Bell Engine Service until retirement. Neighbors was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3111 and the Masonic Lodge. He helped build the first race track in Great Bend and the Aviation Club in Great Bend. Survivors include his wife Kay Neighbors of the home; five sons, Brad Neighbors of Boise, Idaho, Brett Neighbors of El Dorado, Brian Wilson, of Enid, Okla., Kent Bowersox of Hysperia, Calif., and Arthur Bowersox of Shawnee, Okla.; three daughters, Breta Neighbors of Wichita, Laryssa Howard of Burlington, Colo., and Jana Britt of Great Bend; a sister Betty Tarman of Brush, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Jim Neighbors and a sister Dorothy Skalla. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Phil Tarman officiating. HOISINGTON - Alice A. Ward, 65, died July 18, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis, Wichita. She was born May 29, 1941 in Odin, the daughter of W. J. Gerritzen and Mary Zeman Gerritzen. She married
Milton B. Ward Jan. 27, 1961 in Salina. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1999. A resident of Hoisington after moving from Hutchinson in 2001, she was a cook and caregiver for the mentally handicapped. Mrs. Ward was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hoisington, A.A. since 1970, and Big Sisters. Formerly a member of the Kansas Activity Directors Association. Survivors include three sons Steve B. Ward, Robert M. Ward both of Hutchinson, and Mark G. Ward of Salina; one brother, Leo Gerritzen of Denver, Colo.; five sisters Frances Aumiller, Mary Alexander, both of Hutchinson, Margaret Bieberle of Lorraine, Virginia Gross of Little River, and Dorothy Jordan of O'Fallon Mo.; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers William A., Lawrence and Francis Gerritzen. Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. ELLINWOOD - Elton S. Boese, 86, died July 27, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. He was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Alexander, the son of Jake J. and Mabel N. (Whipple) Boese. He married
Mary Maxine Stephens, June 15, 1941 at Alexander. She preceded him in death on April 17, 1977. He later married
Iva M. Schumacher on Aug. 27, 1980 at Miami, Okla. She preceded him in death on March 14, 1990. A longtime Claflin resident after moving from Hoisington, he was retired oilfield pumper for Nadel and Gussman. Boese was a World War II Army veteran. Survivors include three sons, Dwight W. Boese of Ellinwood, Douglas E. Boese of Auburn, Wash., and Delbert S. Boese of Iuka; one daughter, Debra Gassmann, of McKinely, Ill.; one brother, Dr. Kenneth Boese of Manhattan, 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Duane H. Boese. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hoisington cemetery, Hoisington with the Rev. Dale Curtis presiding. Marguerite Maria Lynch

Marguerite Prather was born to Charles Daniel and Maude May (Jones) Prather on May 5, 1908 in Billings, Mont. where her father was a stock raiser and cattle buyer for the bank. She was raised on the Eagle Rock Ranch, Musselshell, Mont., where her mother ran a stagecoach stop in addition to ranch work. Marguerite and her older sister, Elsie, picked chokecherries, buffalo berries, and service berries and made jellies that they sold to stagecoach passengers. They and their brother Tom were educated on the ranch by a hired teacher. When she was around twelve years of age her mother and the three children left the ranch and made their way first to Collinsville, Okla. Later they moved to Wayside where she completed high school and met her future husband. After high school she completed one year of teacher training at Pittsburgh Teachers College in Kansas. She taught elementary school from 1927 '“ 1929 in a one room school near Wayside. In 1930, she returned to the ranch with her mother and taught high school at Melstone, Mont. where she was also coach for the girl's basketball team. It was not uncommon for her to break her way through snow drifts on the way to school in a Model A. She married
Ben Spencer Lynch on June 18, 1931 in Forsyth, Mont. They returned to Wayside where she taught elementary school from 1932-1935. Their first son, Dennis Lee was born in 1937, followed by Jerry Pat in 1939 at Coffeyville. During World War II the family moved to Oregon where daughter Lynda Lou was born in 1944. She returned to elementary school teaching in 1947 at Welches, Ore. She taught there until 1952 when the family moved to Springfield, Ore. where she taught. In 1954, she was among the first to begin teaching special education in public schools, this time in Great Bend. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1958 at Fort Hays State College and a Master of Science in Special Education in 1964. This was done while she was also employed as a full time special education teacher. In 1964-65 she was Director of Special Education in Topeka schools. Following the death of her husband in 1965, she moved to Fort Collins, Colo. and taught special education in Poudre R-1 schools. She became Assistant Director of Special Education for the Colorado Department of Education 1967-1972. She then directed special education programs for the Board of Cooperative Services, Fort Morgan, Colo. She was appointed an Instructor in Special Education at the University of Idaho, where she taught for several years prior to retirement. She authored several publications on classes for educationally handicapped and identifying potential learning disabilities in children. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the American Association of University Women. She retired to Loveland, Colo. and was active in Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church ladies groups. She is survived by her children and their spouses as well as four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service was held July 25, at Allnutt-Hunter Chapel. Interment was at the family plot at Harrisonville cemetery, Kan. next to her strongest supporter and faithful husband, Ben Lynch. HUTCHINSON - Pearl C. Mettscher, 97, died July 21 at Thorne Care Center in Hutchinson. She was born Sept. 30, 1908, in Dighton, the daughter of Pearl and Effie Seaman Clark. She married
Henry G. Mettscher on July 10, 1927, in Hudson. He died Dec. 15, 1983. She was a homemaker and a resident of Hutchinson since moving from western Kansas in 1931. Mrs. Mettscher was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Hutchinson. Survivors include two sons Marvin Mettscher of Hutchinson, and Ivan Mettscher of Great Bend, one daughter Joan 'Jodie' Taylor of Hutchinson, five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Clifford Clark and sisters Margaret, Marjorie, Greta, and twin Murel Anna Smith. Funeral services were Monday July 24 at the church with the Rev. R. LEWIS - Judith Rose (Herrmann) Cross, 49, died July 23 at the SouthWind Hospice House in Pratt, after bravely battling breast cancer since September 2005. She was born Sept. 7, 1956, in Kinsley, the daughter of Joe H. and Rosemary E. Miller Herrmann. A resident of Lewis for 14 years, she was a homemaker and ranch manager. Mrs. Cross was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Belpre, Franklin FCE, the American Quarter Horse Association and Edwards County Soil Conservation. On Aug. 4, 1992, she married
Robert L. Cross at Lewis. He survives. Other survivors include: a son, Gage of the home; Rosemary E. Herrman, Great Bend; two brothers, Steven and wife Catherine Herrmann of Stowe, Mass., and Joe and wife Julie of Johnston, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Dora Herrmann of Las Vegas, Nev.; three nieces, Alex Herrmann of Stowe, Jennifer and Jana Herrmann of Johnston; two nephews, Joe Steven and John Herrmann of Stowe; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers, Terrance and Jerome. Walter Holly Ellis, 65, of Great Bend died July 24 at the Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. He was born Oct. 31, 1940 in Texarkana, Ark., the son of Richard and Lucile Mae (Titsworth) Ellis. He married
Yoshie, March 11, 1963 in Fukuoka, Japan. She survives. He was a resident of Great Bend and worked at Great Bend Packing, and Essex Group Inc. Mr. Ellis was a member of the American Legion Post #180, and served in the Navy for 20 years. Survivors include, his wife, two brothers Jimmy Ellis and Gary Ellis both of Great Bend, one niece, and six nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Vera Mae Ellis. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Charter Funeral Chapel in Great Bend with Rev. Robert Castile, First Church of the Nazarene officiating. LARNED - Anna Bell Brewer, 91, died July 23 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Larned. She was born July 25, 1914, in Heflin, La, the daughter of Make and Sarah Collins White. She married
James G. Brewer. He died March 25, 1985. She was a homemaker and resident of Larned since 1946. Mrs. Brewer was a member of the Escue Chapel CME Church and Welcome Inn Seniors both of Larned. Survivors include 1 son, Bishop Moore, of Larned; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jean Moore and 2 daughters, Sarah Hutcherson and Rosa Newhouse; 7 brothers and 4 sisters. LYONS - Terry Martin McGreevy, 64, died July 21 at Lyons as the result of an auto accident. He was born Dec. 14, 1941, at Canton, Okla., to Carl and Gladys (Edsall) McGreevy. A resident of Lyons since his retirement in 1996, he was a teacher, coach and administrator at Buffalo, Okla., St. John-Hudson, Rosehill and Ellinwood Schools. He graduated high school in 1960 at Canton, Okla., and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Weather-ford, Okla. McGreevy served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964 on the USS Midway. He was a member of the Central Community Church in Wichita, the Kansas Association of Retired School Principals and the Lyons American Legion Post No. 58. On Nov. 4, 1960, he married
Yvonne King at Watonga, Okla. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include: a son, Kyle McGreevy and wife Tami and children Kyli and Jace of Ellsworth; a daughter, Darla McGreevy and children Alicia, Jarett and Krista of Lyons; and two sisters, Judy Pyron of Weatherford, Okla., and Mary Bailey of Gracemont, Okla.
