DURHAM - Delores Marie Richert, 76, died Sept. 6 at Shiloh Manor in Canton. She was born on Dec. 23, 1929, in rural Tampa, the daughter of Ben B. Jantz Jr. and Alma Johnson Jantz. She married Orville Richert on June 10, 1949, in rural Tampa. He died in 2006. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Richert was a member of Central Heights Mennonite Church. Survivors include: Verlin Richert of Assaria and Bentley Richert of Abbyville; daughters Krystal Jensen of Roxbury and Annette Goering of Great Bend; brothers Fiennes Jantz of Durham, Manford Jantz of Connecticut, Gerald Jantz of Utah and Kenneth Jantz of Arizona; sisters Geneva Stucky of McPherson and Evelyn Potts, Donna Phillips, Shirley Branch, Joan Huntoon and Sharon Wisdom, all of Wichita; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister Flora Jean Carlson. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the First Mennonite Church of Hillsboro, with the Rev. Randy Smith officiating. Jeffrey R. Wegele
1958-2006
HUTCHINSON - Jeffrey R. Wegele, 48, died Sept. 5 at his home in Hutchinson. He was born June 30, 1958, at Great Bend, the son of Leslie Vernon and Doris Ann Cromer Wegele. A graduate of Skyline High School in Pratt, he received an Associate in Arts degree from Hutchinson Community College. He had been a resident of Hutchinson since 1989. Mr. Wegele was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. Survivors include his son Matthew Trey Wegele of Hutchinson; two daughters Melinda M. Smith and Ashley Rachael Wegele, both of Hutchinson; his mother Doris Ann Wegele of Pratt; a brother Blaze Lance Wegele of Pratt; four grandchildren; and his companion, Jerrie DeRose of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his father Leslie V. Wegele and his grandparents. Funeral will be at 4 p.m. on Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Pat Ault-Duell officiating. NEWTON - Betty Jo Schmidt, 48, died Sept. 3 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis in Wichita. She was born in Great Bend on March 14, 1958, the daughter of Jake John Boos and Dorothy Mae Collins. She married Ruiz Garcia Adalberto on June 21 in Las Vegas, Nev. She was the lead person for Norcraft Manufacturing. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son Justin Svoboda of Excelsior Springs, Mo; her mother Dorothy Mae Ramsey of Great Bend; one brother David Ramsey of Great Bend; and two sisters, Vickie Ruble of Great Bend and Kathy Leiser of Newton. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Newton with Pastor Terry Tareila officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery in Newton. STOCKTON - Pat K. Rogers, 54, died on Sept. 5 at her home in rural Stockton. She was born on April 26, 1952, in Stockton, the daughter of Wallace and Dorothy (Winters) Cherry. She graduated from Great Bend High School and received her cosmetology degree from Barton County Community College. She married John 'Will' Rogers on Sept. 10, 1982, in Larned. She was a homemaker and farmed south of Stockton. Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters Chandra Slack of Walsenburg, Colo., and Jessica Rogers of Topeka; a son John Rogers of Stockton; her father Wallace Cherry of Larned; her mother Dorothy Jordan of Great Bend; brothers Bill Calvert of Farmington, N.M., and Sonny Cherry of Stockton; a sister Penny Lohr of Pawnee Rock; and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a nephew and a brother-in-law. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton, with the Rev. Vince Williams officiating. Loren Gilbert Hargadine
1925-2006
CHASE - Loren Gilbert Hargadine, 81, died Sept. 4 at the Hutchinson Hospital. He was born on Jan. 31, 1925, in Alden, the son of Arthur L. and Mintie I. Barnes Hargadine. He was a lifetime resident of Rice County, living in Chase 31 years, coming from the Bushton and Alden area. He graduated from Alden High School in 1943. He married Virginia May Newell on Jan. 12, 1948, in Alden. He retired as oiler and engine maintenance worker for Northern Natural Gas after 31 years. Mr. Hargadine was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Bushton, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6485 in Ellsworth, a longtime member of the American Legion Post 200 in Holyrood and a member of bowling leagues for many years in Lyons, Ellsworth and Ellinwood. He was an Army medic serving in the Pacific aboard the USS Marine Phoenix in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son Arthur of Smolan; three daughters, Lois Chiles of Lansing, Betty Robison of Manhattan and Anna Eastwood of Paola; one sister Delma Parker of Hutchinson; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Hargadine. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons with Rev. Arlene Patrick officiating. Burial will be in the Alden Valley cemetery with full military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. HOISINGTON - Thelma Harper, 101, died on Sept. 6 at Hoisington Homestead in Hoisington. She was born June 22, 1905, in Hoisington, the daughter of Jacob T. Crane and May (Davis) Crane. A graduate of Hoisington High School in 1923, she married Fred Harper on Nov. 30, 1923, at Russell. He died on Nov. 24, 1993. A lifetime resident of Hoisington, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Harper was a member of First Christian Church in Hoisington and Victory EHU. Survivors include: a granddaughter Christy Harper of Lakeside, Calif.; and great-grandchildren Steven Harper of Alpine, Calif., and Kimberly Harper of Hoisington. She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Ray Harper and Donald Dean Harper; and a grandson David Harper. HOISINGTON - Joyce D. Richardson, 69, died Sept. 1 at her home in Hoisington. She was born Jan. 8, 1937, to J. Harold and Neva L. (Hill) Richardson in Huron, S.D. She was a retired elementary school teacher. Ms. Richardson was a member of the First United Methodist Church and formerly of the Vine United Methodist church in Hoisington. She was a longtime resident of Hoisington. Survivors include several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ralph Richardson. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the Hoisington cemetery, with Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Burial will be at the cemetery. Velma (Aeschleman) Boyle

SALINA - Velma (Aeschleman) Boyle, 89, died Sept. 4 at Salina Presbyterian Manor. She was born March 27, 1917, at Harper, the daughter of Frank and Pauline (Gleichman) Kraus. A lifelong resident of Hoisington until the 2001 tornado, she then moved to Salina. She was an accomplished seamstress, and a homemaker. She worked for Van-Jo Dairy as the business manager, and later worked for Dr. Wolfenbarger's medical practice in Hoisington. Mrs. Kraus was a member of the former Vine United Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church, both in Hoisington. Survivors include two sons, Vance E. Aeschleman Jr. and wife Grace Ann of Olympia, Wash., and Vaughn Aeschleman of Reseda, Calif.; two daughters Valarie (Aeschleman) Pabalis and husband Gary of Kuna, Idaho, and Virginia (Aeschleman) Schwartz and husband Ken of Salina; three sisters, Mary Kraus of Wichita, Patti Reveles and Virginia Krause, both of LaCresenta, Calif.; one brother, George Krause of Mechanicsville, Va.; nine grandchildren, Nathan Aeschleman of Gilroy, Calif., Daniel Aeschleman and wife Karyn of Pasadena, Calif., Vance Aeschleman III (Trey) of Seattle, Wash., Hillary Sautebin and husband Mike of Boise, Idaho, Max Pabalis of Salt Lake City, Utah, Karl Schwartz and Ernest Schwartz of Denver, Colo., Kim O'Brian and husband Jerry of Maytown, Texas, and Wendy Dau of Olympia, Wash.; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Vance Aeschleman in 1969, and James Boyle in 1997; four brothers and two sisters, Arthur, Ernest, Fritz, Clifford, Dorothy and Thurlaine, and an infant Aeschleman son. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Burial will be at the Hoisington cemetery. Graveside committal services for Darlene Bernice Hanson will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Otis United Methodist cemetery, with the Rev. David Bolz officiating. Darlene B. Hanson, the daughter of Elmer and Alma Brack, passed away Nov. 2, 2005. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services were held on Nov. 6, 2005, at the French Mortuary in Albuquerque, N.M.

John R. Overman
1981-2006
John R. Overman, 24, of Great Bend, died Aug. 30 in Pittsburg. He was born on Sept. 20, 1981, in Anchorage, Alaska, the son of Roy Overman of Chase and Lynne Talley of Bossier City, La. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth and Daniel of Independence; his parents; grandparents Kenneth and Ellen Talley of Bossier City; and two sisters, Laurel Seaquest and Meredith Talley of Bossier City. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lewis and Nora Overman of Grahm, N.C. Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Heritage Baptist Church in Great Bend.

Robert Keith Arnett
1929-2006
Robert Keith Arnett, 77, Great Bend, died Sept. 2 at Lyons Good Samaritan Center in Lyons. He was born March 30, 1929, at Blackwell, Okla, the son of Howard D. and Anna Gay Roberts Arnett. He married Alice Rae Lathrop July 7, 1958, at Great Bend. She survives. He grew up in Hoisington, graduating from there in 1947, but lived in Great Bend most of his life. He worked at Phillips Sporting Goods Store and later for Centel, retiring in 1995. Arnett a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of First Christian Church and Model Association of Central Kansas, and was a life member of the American Legion. Survivors include: His wife of the home; two daughters, Toni Ely and husband George of Williamsburg, N.J., and Teresa Raymer of Great Bend; one sister, Alice Milton and husband Willis of Sulphur, Okla.; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and loving pet dog Heidi. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Great Bend with the Rev. William Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend, with military graveside honors. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Vern William Baldwin
1920-2006
Vern William Baldwin, 86, Great Bend, died Sept. 3 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born July 30, 1920, at Dodge City, the son of Norbin Jones and Cammie Ann Justin Baldwin. He married Ethel Mae Denney May 17, 1940, at Dodge City. She survives. He lived in Great Bend since 1937, coming from Dodge City. Baldwin was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a member of First Christian Church, VFW Post 3111 and Fraternal Order of Eagles, all of Great Bend. Survivors include: His wife of the home; two sons, Jack Denney Baldwin of Windom and Richard Lee Baldwin of Topeka; two daughters, Jill Laverne Hoefer of McPherson and Ellen Gaye Ernst of Hutchinson; one brother, Kent Baldwin of Great Bend; two sisters, Maxine Wesley of Hutchinson and Doris Boyer of Savannah, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: Three brothers, Jack Baldwin, Norbin Baldwin and Howard Baldwin; and one sister, Phylis Deist. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Today at Great Bend cemetery. Maurice L. Wilhelm

TOPEKA - Maurice L. Wilhelm, 67, died Sept. 2 at Plaza West Regional Health Center in Topeka. He was born Nov. 5, 1938, near Galatia, the son of August and Florence Ruth Karst Wilhelm. He married Melody Moris on May 13, 1978, in Arizona. He was a resident of Topeka, formerly of Ellinwood, Wichita and Big Springs, Texas. He was a retired power plant operator for the city of Ellinwood. Mr. Wilhelm was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ellinwood. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother, Florence Veach of Hebron, Neb.; two sons, John Wilhelm of Big Springs and Steve Moris of Topeka; three daughters, Tammy Shultz of Big Springs, Melinda Hines of Waxahachie, Texas, and Debbie Doll of Ellinwood; a brother, Lester Wilhelm of Chula Vista, Calif.; and a sister, Nancy Mitchell of Hebron. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kimple Funeral Chapel in Ellinwood, with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be in Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Loren John Saindon
1966-2006
Loren John Saindon, 40, a Great Bend resident, died Sept. 1 at Perry, Okla. He was born June 7, 1966, at Strong City, the son of Le Roy and Jane Martin Saindon. He married Christine Adams on Sept. 21, 1996 in Great Bend. She survives. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was an operator for Francis Casing Crews. Mr. Saindon was a member of the Catholic Community of Great Bend, Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs football fan and enjoyed fishing and his truck. Loren was always the life of the party. He loved getting together with his family and friends. Loren loved his nephews and niece. They were the light of his life. Of course there was 'Lil Miss Shadie' who loved to snuggle with him. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. There will never be another man like him. Your love, laughter and smile will be missed. Your family loves you. Rest in peace my love. Survivors include his wife, Christine Saindon of the home; his father, Le Roy Saindon, and mother, Jane Saindon, both of Great Bend; a brother, Joe Saindon and wife Cecilia of Great Bend; a sister, LeAnne Delgado and husband Aaron of Great Bend; brother-in-laws David John Adams and Andrew Adams and wife Mary; nieces and nephews Tyler Saindon, Taylor Saindon, Jacob Delgado, Colton Delgado, Janay Delgado, Marcus Adams, Bonnie Adams and Bradley Ivy; and mother-in-law Sylvia Adams of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by grandparents Lawrence and Katherine Saindon and Adrian and Wilma Martin; an uncle, Lowell Martin; a niece, Crystal Delgado; and father-in-law Paul M. Adams. Vigil Service will be at 7 p.m. on Monday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Reginald A. Dr. Bernard C. Wildgen
1916-2006
HOLLAND, Mich. - Dr. Bernard C. Wildgen died Aug. 25 in Holland. He was born Oct. 30, 1916, in Hoisington, the son of Henry and Susanne (Hain) Wildgen. He married Norma Nadine Woodhouse on Dec. 29, 1941. She died July 3, 1994. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kansas in 1941. He practiced ophthalmology in Muskegon, Mich., retiring in 1988. Dr. Wildgen was a member of the county, state and national American Medical Association Medical Societies, the American College of Surgeons and the Knights of Columbus. He served in the U.S. Navy as a medical officer during World War II in the North and South Pacific and Atlantic theaters where he achieved the officer rank of Lieutenant Commander. Survivors include three sons, Bernard David Wildgen, Richard A. Widgen, and James Wildgen; three daughters, Sarah 'Sally' Wildgen, Norma Ann 'Annie' Merkle and Rebecca 'Becky' DeRose; 16 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandson and three brothers, Maurice Wildgen, Joseph Wildgen and Henry Wildgen Jr. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Ernest J. Bernott presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery with full military rites afforded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Muskegon County Council.
