MANTECA, Calif. - Betty Anne (Tinnemeyer) Garrett, 84, died Nov. 17 at the Doctor's Hospital of Manteca. She was born on Sept. 28, 1922, in Great Bend, the daughter of Fred Tinnemeyer and Ellie May Foster. She worked for Cessna Airplane Manufacturing during the war. She also worked for Bethlehem Steel before working for Tracey Defense Depot as a shipment clerk for 18 years. Survivors include one sister, Virginia Redmond of Redwood City, Calif.; and two nieces, Marcia Redmond of Redwood City, Calif., and Debbie Redmond-Ploeger of Grand Junction, Colo. Funeral services will be at noon Monday at San Andreas Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Peoples cemetery with graveside service to follow the funeral. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to your local humane society.
Dolores M. Schneider

Dolores M. Schneider, 86, of Great Bend died Nov. 23 at Central Kansas Medical Center. She was born Dec. 6, 1919, in Rush County, the daughter of Carl W. and Martha Augusta Tammen Schneider, Jr. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a telephone operator, instructor and supervisor for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., retiring after 38 years. Ms. Schneider was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend and an Honorary Member of Telephone Pioneers of America. She was baptized Jan. 18, 1920, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Albert and confirmed April 14, 1935. Survivors include one sister, Isabella Nuss of Great Bend; one nephew, Mark Schneider of Pratt; and a great-niece, Danielle Hott of Centennial, Colo. She was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Schneider, one sister, Eleonore Nuss, and one niece, Magdelene Hott. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. James A. Strasen officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Jerome L. 'Jerry' Welch
1929 - 2006
GARDNER - Jerome L. 'Jerry' Welch was born July 8, 1929, in Great Bend, the son of Clarence E. and E. Irene Welch. Jerry died peacefully at home on Nov. 24. He had been diagnosed with lung cancer in April of this year. Jerry spent his early years in Great Bend, Pawnee Rock and Colby. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following basic training and Leadership School at Ft. Lee, Va., he met and married
the former Anna Volansky of Dupont, Pa. Following 17 months of service in Korea, Jerry and Ann were discharged from the Army and settled in Otis where Jerry worked at the helium plant. While in Otis, their son Michael L. Welch was born. They subsequently moved to Albert, where they lived for 18 years. The helium plant closed and Jerry became a journeyman electrician, working out of Larned. In 1975, they moved to Gardner. Jerry joined Local No. 226 in Topeka and retired from that union in 1991. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Irene, and his father, Clarence, and his sister Joyce (Welch) England. He is survived by his wife Ann of the home in Gardner; his son Michael and wife Jolene of Wichita Falls, Texas; his granddaughters Jennifer and husband Rich Renner of Wichita Falls and Jamie and husband Charles 'Chip' Wilson of Arlington, Texas. He is also survived by brothers Kermit and wife Carol of Gardner and Lauren and wife Marian of Wichita, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry's love of horses was exceeded only by his love for people. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 555 W. Main, Gardner. HOISINGTON - Donald George Rose, 70, died Nov. 24 at 211 E. 3rd in Hoisington. He was born Nov. 21, 1936, in Great Bend, the son of Charles Raymond and Helen 'Henkins' Rose. He was a 1954 Hoisington High School graduate, attended Kansas University and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Fort Hays State University in 1972. A retired middle school teacher for USD 489 in Hays, he was a former resident of Hays, moving to Hoisington after retirement in 1997. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington and Eagles Lodge in Hays. Survivors include two brothers, Raymond H. Rose of Lake Almanor, Calif., and Joe M. Rose of Leawood. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sue DuRant. A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. HUTCHINSON - Elizabeth A. 'Betty' Boger, 87, died Nov. 23 at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born Nov. 6, 1919, at Odin, the daughter of Robert and Amelia Tinkel Korkish. She married
Lester W. Boger on Feb. 23, 1953, in Hutchinson. A Hutchinson resident for the past 54 years, moving from Hoisington, she graduated from Odin schools. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Hoisington Drug Store. She was a member of Church of the Holy Cross and its Altar Society. She had been active as a Scout mother, and in PTA and as a room mother at Graber Elementary School. Survivors include her husband, Lester, of the home; a son, Dale Boger and wife Karen of La Jolla, Calif.; a daughter, Marlene Showalter, Topeka; a sister, Theresa Hochstatter of Gladstone, Mo.; and a grandson, Thomas Showalter of Lawrence. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Matilda Finger and Leona Korkish, and a son-in-law, Fred Showalter. A rosary and prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson. Owen Price Teel, 79, of Great Bend, died Nov. 23 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. He was born March 12, 1927, in Englewood, Mo., the son of Fred Alan and Minnie 'Sweeten' Teel. He married
Patricia N. Trotter Oct. 24, 1975, at Claflin. He was a longtime resident of Claflin, moving to Mountain Home, Ark., in 1984 and returning to Great Bend in 1994. He was a retired corrosion technician for Northern Natural Gas, retiring in 1984 after 33 years of service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Great Bend, a life member of Ralph B. Praeger Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8668 of Claflin and a life member of American Legion Post No. 200, Holyrood, and Eagles Lodge No. 646, Great Bend. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Jim L. Teel; a daughter, Linda Cook, of Lyons; a brother, Lawrence L. Teel of Columbia, Mo.; three sisters, Helen Kennett of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Ruby Phillips and Ruth Martin, both of Columbia, Mo.; and nieces and nephews. LA MARQUE, Texas - Pauline Frances Burke, 88, died Nov. 21 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. She was born Dec. 14, 1917, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Irvan and Catherine Elizabeth Jamieson Bunyan. She married
John E. Burke on May 17, 1941, at Galveston, Texas. He died in 1982. A resident of Great Bend since 1999, coming from La Marque, Texas, she was a retired clerk for the 56th District Court in Galveston, Texas. Mrs. Burke was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and Altar Guild at La Marque, Texas, and Mainland Center Hospital Auxiliary in Texas City, Texas. Survivors include two sons, John E. Burke of Baytown, Texas, and Michael L. Burke of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; one brother, James R. Jim Bunyan of Pratt; four sisters, Sarah Louise McAdams of Dallas, Billie Joan Hollond of Emporia, Betty Carlina Gibson of Salina and Peggy A. Raymer of Great Bend; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Glen E. Bunyan. HOISINGTON - Alvin L. Beers, 89, died Nov. 20 at Cheyenne Meadows Living Center in Hoisington. He was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Hoisington, the son of Andrew Jackson and Dora Belle (Cody) Beers. A lifelong Hoisington resident, he married
Mildred Pauline Beers on July 8, 1945, at Hoisington. They owned the Beers Paint and Hardware Store from 1965 to 1987. Beers was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and served as past commander of the American Legion Post No. 286 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7428, all in Hoisington. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving four years in Europe and Africa. Survivors include his wife Pauline, of the home; two sons, Larry Beers of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Alvin Beers Jr. of Greenwood Village, Colo.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Maynard and Herbert Beers, and a sister, Lavonne Hettler. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 2 at the church, with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Leathel Price on Oct. 19, 1936, in Okemah, Okla. He was a resident of Hoisington since 1946 before moving to Great Bend. He was a mechanic for NCRA. Bohannon was a member of the Church of Christ in Great Bend. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Gerald L. Bohannon of Houston, Texas, and Lloyd D. Bohannon of Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters, Lois E. Bohanon of Littleton, Colo., and Reta Wynne of Great Bend; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. SAND SPRINGS, OKLA. - Charles William McClintock, 74, of Sand Springs, Okla., died Nov. 18 at his home. His illness was long and he was most courageous. He was born on May 21, 1932, in Haskell, Okla., the son of Muriel Aymer and William H. McClintock. He served in the United States Air Force and worked for American Airlines, retiring as a managing director. He was a well known drag racer and held a national speed record from the NHRA. Charles was an avid hunter, fisherman and private pilot. Charles was a member and served faithfully at Sand Springs United Methodist Church, and was a 32 degree Mason of the Scottish Rite in Tulsa. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barbara; two daughters, Amy Kile and husband Rick of Great Bend, and Caroline Wescott and husband Daniel of Owasso, Okla.; three grandsons, Micah Lee Kile, Jared Charles Kile and Matthew Charles Wescott; and two sisters, Marjorie Noe of Nowata, Okla., and Cynthia Lindsey of Longview, Texas. Frank Oshel in 1942 in Wichita. He died Dec. 25, 2000. Mrs. Oshel was a member of the American legion Auxiliary in Holyrood and the United Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Janice Grubb and Judy Glaser, both of Holyrood; one brother, Joe Purma of Fair Grove, Mo.; three sisters, Ruth Miller and Dorothy Doll, both of Wichita, and Ida Mae Frick of Hutchinson; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A resident of Great Bend since, 1996, coming from Hoisington, he was a construction worker for M & S Contracting. Corcoran was of the Catholic faith.
