FORT WORTH, Texas - Milton David Herman, 89, a retired electronics technician for General Dynamics, passed away Nov. 17 in Fort Worth, Texas. Milton David Herman was born Feb. 11, 1917, in San Antonio, Texas. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. Milton enjoyed working in the yard, building things and painting pictures. Milton will be greatly missed by his large family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Grace; sons, James Wiggins and wife, Mary and David Herman and wife, Kathy; daughters, Norma Whitler, Alinda Ballard and Sandra Fuller and husband, Robert; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and brother, Russell Herman. Herman Franklin 'Frank' Deines, Jr.
1940-2006
Herman Franklin 'Frank' Deines, Jr., 65, of Great Bend, died Nov. 15 at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. He was born Dec. 7, 1940, at Boulder, Colo., the son of Herman Franklin Deines Sr. and Sara A. Arter Deines. He married Alice Jeanette Clark on Feb. 15, 1969, at Galatia. He was an electrical engineer for Data I.O. and in sales for Office Products, Inc., and a farmer. He was a resident of Great Bend since 1998, coming from Louisville, Colo. He was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Boulder, Colo., and Great Bend Kiwanis Club, serving as vice president, and the Golden Belt Residue Management Alliance, serving on the board. Survivors, include his wife, of the home, are three sons, Herman Franklin Deines III, Great Bend, Scott Edward Deines, Otis, and Derek Andrew Deines, Firestone, Colo.; two daughters, Sheryl Lyn Stickler and Tammy René Deines, both of Broomfield, Colo.; his mother, Sara A. Deines, Otis; two brothers, Robert Deines, Hoisington, and James Deines, Wichita; three sisters, Kathryn Ahlvers, Great Bend, and Marcia Brewer, Edwardsville, Ill., Vickie Riedl, Woodward, Okla.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Elizabeth Ann Deines. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 25 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia, with the Rev. Marvin Lee Campbell
1942-2006
LARNED - Marvin Lee Campbell, 64, died Nov. 17 at his home in Larned. He was born May 17, 1942, at Great Bend, the son of Lawrence Edward and Alice Marie Phillips Campbell. He married Judy Beach at Phoenix, Ariz., on Jan. 27, 1968. She died Aug. 11, 1994. He married Donna Rae Skelton at Tucson, Ariz., on Aug. 16, 1998. A resident of Larned since 2003, moving from Tucson, he was a draftsman and CADD Tech for URS Corporation. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Larned, and the American Legion at Tucson. Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, Michael Beach, Waco, Texas, Kelly Beach, Tucson, Allen Campbell, Tucson, and David Skelton, Lakeland, Tenn.; five daughters, Yvonne Beach Ortiz and Sherri Israel, both of Tucson, and Dawn, Michele and Lori Skelton, all of Larned; a brother, Eugene Campbell of Larned; two sisters, Marie Post, Spearfish, S.D., and Carolyn Duncan of Larned; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with the Rev. Tim Ault-Duell presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Cremation will take place after the funeral with private inurnment at a later date in the Farmington cemetery at Macksville. Rev. John E. (Jack) Matrow
1924 - 2006
ELLINWOOD - The Rev. John E. (Jack) Matrow, 82, died Nov. 14 at Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita. He was born June 23, 1924, in rural Junction City, Geary County, the son of John E. Matrow and Annie Mae Morris Matrow. He was a 20-year resident of Ellinwood. He married Mary Ann Trott on Aug. 7, 1949, in Ellinwood. He was a graduate of Junction City High School in 1941, Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan, attended Phillips Theological Seminary in Enid, Okla., and was a graduate of Brite Divinity T.C.U. in Fort Worth, Texas. He was ordained in 1943 in the Christian Church and served in numerous churches in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee and Missouri before he retired in 1986. Matrow was a member of the First Christian Church in Great Bend, the newsletter editor of Rotary Club, a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, the Wichita Postcard Club and the ministerial association. His hobbies included painting, postcard collecting, stamp collecting, coin collecting, rock collecting and gardening. Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, John E. Matrow of Wichita; one daughter, Martha Jones of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and one sister, Marjorie Stiers of Fayetteville, Ark.; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, LeRoy and William Caruthers, and a sister, Betty Matrow. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. William Johnson and the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Committal will be at 2:30 p.m. at Bean cemetery in Little River. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Wendell Byers, 86, Great Bend, died Nov. 16 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Oct. 31, 1920, in rural Barton County, the son of Earl J. and Florence Deborah Curry Byers. He married Betty Jean Ruble on Dec. 24, 1941, at Great Bend. She died Oct. 3, 1999. He was a manager for Scheufler Supply and Big A Auto Parts Store. He was a lifetime resident of Great Bend and Barton County. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Corps. Byers was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a life member of the American Legion Argonne Post 180, both of Great Bend. Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann Doan of Hays; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Byers and Roy Byers, and a sister, Arlene Thompson. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, with the Rev. Hal Staats officiating. Interment will be in the Great Bend cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today, with the family to receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, all at the funeral home. Walter Anthony Veach 1955 - 2006
LOVELAND, Colo. - Walter Anthony Veach, 51, died Nov. 8 at McKee Hospice Care Center, Loveland, after spending the last year battling cancer. He was born Nov. 5, 1955, at Ironton, Ohio, the son of Walter G. and Rose McMahon Veach. He married Jennifer Nelson June 30, 1979, in Barton County. He graduated from high school and attended college in Kansas. He was an overland truck driver for McLane Western for 13 years. He moved from Kansas to Loveland in 1990. Veach was a member of Grace Community Church, Loveland. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He loved baseball and antique trucks. Survivors include his wife, Jennifer, of Loveland; two sons, LCLP Levi Veach and Pfc. Caleb Veach, both in the U.S. Marine Corps; a daughter, Mariah Veach, of Loveland; his mother, Rose Veach, of Lowry City, Mo.; three brothers, Glenn Veach (Laura) of Oak Hill, Va., Dean Veach, and Daniel Veach (Jeannette), all of Lowry City, Mo.; four sisters, Cinda Schneweis (Leon) of Lawrence, Susan Albright (John) of Lowry City, Mo., Julia Veach of Newton and Emily Jenkins (Rusty) of Lowry City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Nolan Murphy and Brooklyn Murphy of Loveland; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and by a sister, Judy. Cremation has been completed. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Evangelical Church, Loveland, with the Rev. Clarence G. Nuss

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Clarence G. Nuss, 85, died Nov. 9 at the Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was born July 28, 1921, in Scottsbluff, Neb., the son of Reinhold and Amalia (Mollie) Beisel Nuss. He married Esther Rupp in Conway, Ark., on Dec. 14, 1941. They had one daughter, Elizabeth Ann. He later married Teru Aria on Feb. 19, 1951, in Koge, Japan. They have one son, Jim. Mr. Nuss was a World War II veteran, having served in the Aleutian Islands, France, Germany and Japan. He retired from the Army in 1963 after having served for 22 years. He entered Civil Service in 1963, where he worked as a supervisor in receiving for the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. He retired from Civil Service in 1983. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 46 years. Survivors include his wife Teru; his son, Jim T. Nuss of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren, Autumn (Steve) Ehrhardt of Boulder, Colo., and Jade Nuss of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, India and Oliver Ehrhardt and Evan Nuss; two brothers, Gerhardt Nuss of Great Bend and Ray J. Nuss of Dallas; and six sisters, Mrs. Berneice Hillman, of Keller, Texas, Mrs. Ruth (Bob) Critser of WaKeeney, Mrs. Ruby (Larry) Manweiler of Hoisington and Mrs. Josephine Sutton, Mrs. Irene Ledford and Mrs. Virginia (Karl) Harmony, all of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant daughter Elizabeth, and four brothers, Erwin, Leroy, Roland and Wilbur. A memorial service was held Nov. 12 at the Soka Gakkai International-USA Center. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. The body was cremated. Ruby E. Wilson

LARNED - Ruby E. Wilson, 85, died Nov. 13 at Wheatland Care Center in Kingman. She was born May 5, 1921, in Leoti, the daughter of William and Gladys Couch Blau. A lifetime area resident, she was retired from the USD 495 food service department. She married Willard Wilson in 1939 at Manitou Springs, Colo. He died Jan. 2, 1993. Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Christian Church in Pawnee Rock. Survivors include a son, Lynn of Goddard; a daughter, R. Faye Steffen of Sterling; five sisters, Betty Elder of Tribune, Maxine Peterson and Mary Rose Ballard, both of Scott City, Irene Hienetz of Leoti, and Dorothy Jordan of Provo, Utah; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharol Livengood, and four brothers, Rodney, Orville, Billy Dick and Jimmy Don. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Don Paden presiding. Burial will be in the Pawnee Rock cemetery. Reinhold J. 'Mac' Suppes, 84, of Great Bend, died Nov. 14 at his home. He was born March 30, 1922, at Liebenthal, the son of Adam Suppes Jr. and Mary Herrman Suppes. He married Rufina 'Ruby' Graf on Aug. 9, 1949, at Hays. She died on June 21, 2001. He was a farmer and stockman. He was a resident of Great Bend since 1988, coming from Bazine. He was a member of Catholic Community of Great Bend at St. Patrick and the Knights of Columbus at Liebenthal. Survivors include three sons, Stephen Suppes and wife Diane, David Suppes and wife Kristi, and Paul Suppes and wife Jan, all of Great Bend; five brothers, Primus Suppes of Scott City, Anton Suppes of Loretta, Julius Suppes and Clarence Suppes, both of Otis, and Eugene Suppes of Great Bend; one sister, Ruth Engel of Loretta; nine grandchildren: Stephanie Muth, Scott Suppes, Stacie Michaelis, Sarah Clancey, Lynea Suppes, Kory Suppes, Shay Preece, Gabrielle Guesnier and Jake Guesnier; and eight great-grandchildren: Allison Muth, Audrey Muth, Abby Muth, Austin Michaelis, Madison Michaelis, Brooklyn Michaelis, Lauren Suppes and Allie Rowe. He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Schuckman. A vigil service with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Reginald A. Urban officiating. Interment will be in the Great Bend cemetery. HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - Daniel Eugene Moulder, 38, died Nov. 3 in Hollywood, Fla. He was born April 6, 1968, in Great Bend, the son of Jack and Joyce Moulder. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1986. He moved to Las Vegas, Nev., in 1999. He was a resident of Hollywood, Fla., for one year. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include his grandmother, Virginia Higers of Las Vegas, Nev.; two aunts, Joan Farmer and Janet Brown of Las Vegas, Nev.; two uncles, Gary and wife Janice Everett and Alton (Pete) and wife Carol Everett, all of Great Bend; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Moulder, and his mother, Joyce Moulder. Interment will be at the Great Bend cemetery.

Janice M. Unruh Beougher
1935 - 2006
HUTCHINSON - Janice M. Unruh Beougher, 71, died Nov. 14 at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born April 27, 1935, in Great Bend, the daughter of the Rev. Galen W. and Doris E. Nairn Unruh. She was a graduate of Pawnee Rock High School. She earned a bachelor's degree at Marymount College, Salina, and a master's degree at Fort Hays State University, Hays. A resident of Hutchinson, she had previously lived in Pawnee Rock, Pretty Prairie and Kingman. She was a master-level psychologist for Horizons Mental Health Center. Beougher was a charter member of the North American Association of Masters in Psychology and Kansas Association of Masters in Psychology. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the New Jerusalem, Swedenborgian. Survivors include two sons, Duane Beougher of St. Louis, Mo., and Darrel Beougher of Stockton; two daughters, Debra Beougher of Wellington and Diane Beougher of Yoder; one brother, Stanley Unruh of San Antonio, Texas; and two sisters, Carole Bowman of Pawnee Rock and Sharon Billings of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Unruh. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Jerusalem Church in Pawnee Rock with the Rev. Jane Siebert officiating. Marcus Benarr Mix

Marcus Benarr Mix, 82, of Great Bend, died Nov. 12 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. He was born Feb. 26, 1924, at Village Buffalo, Okla., the son of Charles Franklin and Ruth Marie Jones Mix. He was a newspaper printing press setter. He had lived in Great Bend since May 18, 2005, coming from Kennewick, Wash. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Air Force. Survivors include a daughter, Marcinia Killman, of Texas; a sister, Mary Ruth Loomis, of Upland, Calif.; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, William Killman and Charles M. Killman; four brothers, Charles Noel, Howard Louis, Leonard Joel and Richard Lacy Mix; one sister, Louisa Mix; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Wilson, and a great-great grandson. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. A memorial fund in his name has been established for Cherry Village Nursing Home. Gary Dean Kroeker
1951 - 2006
TOWANDA - Gary Dean Kroeker, age 55, of Towanda, was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident on Nov. 8. Gary was a devoted husband, an incredible dad to his son and three stepchildren, and a true friend to all who knew him. Gary was born the son of Marvin and Evelyn Kroeker on Aug. 20, 1951, in Great Bend. They preceded him in death. Gary was a graduate of Pawnee Rock High School and Kansas State University. He had a lifelong passion and talent for woodworking and blacksmithing. He was employed in the aircraft industry, with The Nordam Group, building executive aircraft interiors. Gary is survived by his wife, Barbara Evanhoe of the home; son, Aric Dean Kroeker, of Palatine, Ill.; stepchildren Laurelin Evanhoe, of Ithaca, N.Y., and Richard Evanhoe and Rebecca Evanhoe, both of Lawrence; sister Karen Garrett and husband Rick, of Great Bend; and brother Craig Kroeker, of Pawnee Rock. The Gary Kroeker Memorial Fund has been established at Emprise Bank, Wichita, for the purpose of raising awareness to make the roads safer for motorcyclists. A benefit for the memorial fund was held Sunday, Nov. 12, from noon to 5 p.m., at the Port of Wichita, 1548 S. Webb Rd., Wichita. Fifty percent of the proceeds will be donated to the memorial fund. Gary's life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 7 p.m. today, at The Bright Spot for Health Panorama Room, 3100 N. Hillside, Wichita.

Charles Jacob Robinson
1953 - 2006
WEWAHITCHKA, Fla. - Charles Jacob Robinson, 53, died Oct. 14 at his home in the loving arms of the Lord and his family. He was born Feb. 27, 1953, in Great Bend. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1971 and went to Florida in 1986, where he became a correctional officer for the state. He is survived by five sons, Patrick Robinson, his wife Christine and daughter Brittany of Panama City, Fla., Christopher Robinson, his wife Bianca and three children, Savannah, Christopher and Patrick of Panama City Beach, Fla., Anthony Robinson of Moultrie, Ga., and James and Jerry Robinson, both of Mexico Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Tiffany Nicole Robinson Johns of Panama City Beach, Fla.; one sister, Jacque Staab and her husband, of Beacon Hill, Fla.; two brothers, Joe Robinson and wife Neill of Austin, Texas, and Richard Robinson and wife Marsha of Port St. Joe, Fla.; a lifelong friend, Wade Kern of Wichita; and his former wives Katherine and Sherry. He was loved and will be missed by many.
