BUSHTON - Anthony S. 'Tony' Kaiser, 81, died Jan. 29 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. He was born Jan. 3, 1924. A Rosary will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Bushton. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Monday. Survivors and other arrangements are pending and will be announced later.
Donna Ruth Hafeman Consoli
1930-2005
Donna Ruth Hafeman Consoli died Jan. 25, 2005, in the critical care ward of Del Webb Hospital in Sun City West, Ariz. Donna was born Jan. 13, 1930, on a farm at Dorrance, Kan. She attended local grade and high schools in Kansas and graduated from Wilson High School in 1947. She graduated from the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Wichita, Kan., in 1952. Donna married
William J. Hill in 1958. He preceded her in death in 1986. During the course of her marriage to Hill, she attended the University of California-Northridge and received a master's degree in nursing administration. She subsequently served as assistant departmental administrator for Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Woodland Hills, Calif. In 1987, Donna married
Robert J. Consoli in Northridge, Calif. They moved to a retirement community in Sun City West, Ariz., in 1991. Robert died in Sun City West in 1995. Donna remained a resident of Sun City West until her death. While living in Sun City West, Donna was active in a number of clubs and organizations including The Sun City Nurses Club, The California Club, The Italian-American Society, The Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, The Red Hats and Lady of Lourdes Council 1809. Donna received recognition of her administrative abilities when she was accepted into Who's Who and was registered in the Library of Congress. Donna's death is deeply felt by two surviving brothers, Gene (Betty) Hafeman and Bill (Jane) Hafeman; two sisters, Marjorie (Lemuel) Dilley and Patricia Henry; a brother-in-law, Joseph Purma, nine nephews and seven nieces. Donna was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Gerry. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. MST Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Prince of Peace Church, Sun City West, Ariz. Viewing was Friday, with Rosary at 5 p.m. at Sunland Mortuary, Sun City, Ariz. Interment was at Sunland Memorial Park, Sun City.
Edward Deutsch

TOPEKA - Edward Deutsch, 69, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at a local hospital. He was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Hoisington, the son of Frederick and Emelia Bitter Deutsch. Edward graduated from Hoisington High School. He worked for Dillons for 28 years. Edward retired from the U.S. Army Reserves after 30 years. He was a member of The American Legion Post #400 and St. John's Lutheran Church . He married
Florence E. Pivonka June 27, 1965, in Hoisington. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Jason Deutsch of Topeka; one daughter, Gina Annis of Keller, Texas; two grandchildren, Tanner Annis and Kara Annis of Topeka; four sisters, Helena Mai of Hoisington, Irene Bitter of Hoisington, Wilma Haesemeyer of Hutchinson and Theresa Dumler of Milberger; and three brothers, Junior Deutsch and Robert Deutsch, both of Hoisington, and Dean Deutsch of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Edwin Deutsch; and four other brothers, Armin Deutsch, Raymond Deutsch, Leland Deutsch and Paul Deutsch. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Mt. Hope cemetery where military honors will be conducted by a U.S. Army Fort Riley Funeral Detail. MARBLE, N.C. - David Wayne Champ, 39, of Hancock Lane in Marble died on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at his home. He was born on Oct. 1, 1965, in Reno County and was the son of the late John D. Champ Jr. and Virginia Miller Champ of Great Bend. He was an employee of Buckhorn Lumber Company and a native of Great Bend. Mr. Champ is survived by his wife, Thelma Marlene Mathis Stroud Champ; his mother, Virginia Miller Champ of Great Bend; two daughters, Cassondra Champ of Great Bend and Jennifer L. Champ of Garden City; three sons, John R. Champ, Lucas A. Champ and Stormy D. Champ, all of Garden City; two stepsons, Rickey T. Stroud of Marble, N.C., and Caleb Schraeder of Dodge City; four stepdaughters, Kayla R. Stroud of Marble, N.C., Lenessa Stroud, Lacey 'NayNay' Stroud and Alexandria Stroud, all of the home; four grandchildren, Joey T. Stroud, Kiersten Fischer, Zackary Fischer and Skyler Fischer of Marble, N.C.; one son-in-law, Kyle Fischer of Marble, N.C.; four brothers, Steve Thomas of Great Bend, Richard Julian of Lyons, Eddie Miller of Ohio and Rick Thomas of Great Bend; six sisters, Jessie Champ of Garden City, Patty Thomas of Colorado, Christina Schroder and Theresa Smith, both of Elizabeth, Colo., Ginny Boots of Kansas and Yvonne Thomas of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at the Townsend and Rose Chapel in Andrews, N.C. The Rev. Ricky Burrell officiated. Burial was at the Aquone Baptist Church cemetery in Macon County, N.C. HOISINGTON - Douglas L. Clark, 79, died Jan. 24 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center- St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Oct. 20, 1925, at Morland, the son of John and Margaret Clark Clark. He married
Valta Farmer on Dec. 19, 1959, at Hoisington. She died Jan. 19, 2002. He was a retired driller for Beredco Oil Company. He was a longtime resident of Hoisington, coming from Olmitz. Clark attended the Church of the Nazarene and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 7428, both of Hoisington. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include three sons, Dusty Clark of Hoisington, Russell Clark of Ponca City, Okla., and Ricky Clark of Olmitz; three daughters, Donelda Lindsey of Marland, Okla., Jana Shaw of La Crosse, and Jodee Demel of Claflin; three brothers, Charles Clark of Keewanee, Wis., and Bryce Clark and John Clark, Jr. both of Hoisington; four sisters, Marles Miller of Olympia, Wash., Shirley Hilburn of Hill City, Billye Yowell of Delphos, and Patty Covalt of Riley; 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dwight Clark, and one sister, Enid Otis. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Fisher officiating. LARNED - Harlan Melvin Kasselman, 68, died Jan. 25 at Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth. He was born Sept. 4, 1936, at Larned, the son of Melvin and Dora Flanders Kasselman. He was a graduate of Zook Community High School and Wichita State University. A resident of Larned and Leavenworth, he was a retired teacher, coach and farmer. Kasselman was a member of the Catholic Faith and past member of the Kansas Coaches Association. Survivors include three sons, Harlan Kasselman, Jr., of Larned, Alan Kasselman of Tonganoxie, and Brian Kasselman of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; one step-son, Vincent LoPresti of Dallas, Texas; his caregiver, Alice Kasselman of Leavenworth; two brothers, Max Kasselman of Wichita and Ralph Kasselman of Ponca City, Okla.; two sisters, Ruth Steffen and Linda Parr, both of Larned; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Kasselman. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned, with the Rev. Dennis Reed officiating. Charley H. Meyer, 105, of Great Bend, died Jan. 22 at Central Kansas Medical Center. He was born May 13, 1899, at Great Bend, the son of Henry J. and Anna Brandt Meyer. He married
Bertha L. Otte on Dec. 27, 1920, at Hutchinson. She died Feb. 25, 1997. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he was an auto parts machinist. Meyer was a member of The American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Elks Lodge, all of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I, serving with the rank of private. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn N. Meyer of Aurora, Colo.; one daughter-in-law, Wilma Meyer of Rapid City, S.D.; one grandson, Kenneth Meyer and wife Judy of Muscatine, Iowa; one granddaughter, Alyn Meyer-Gravatt and husband Jerry of Rapid City, S.D.; five great-grandchildren, Randyl Meyer and Lindsey Herlein of Muscatine, Iowa; Carter Gravatt of Rapid City, Iowa, now serving in Afghanistan; Kolbe Gravatt of Sparks, Nev.; and Chase Gravatt of Rapid City, S.D. Pearl Mae Stoppel
1924 - 2005
RUSSELL - Pearl Mae Stoppel, age 80, died Monday, Jan. 24 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell. She was born June 1, 1924, on the family farm near Wilson, the daughter of Earnest Edward and Dora Sanders Bushell. She moved with her family to the Gorham area, where she completed her education, graduating from Gorham High School. On Nov. 10, 1945, she was united in marriage to Carl Alvin Stoppel at Russell. Mr. Stoppel preceded his wife in death on Aug. 15, 1970. After their marriage, they made their home in Wilson before moving to Lucas and Gorham. They moved to Russell in the mid 1950s where she made her home until her death. She worked as a cook in area restaurants for most of her lifetime, including several years at Russell's Inn. She had also worked in the housekeeping department of Russell Regional Hospital for several years. She retired in 1981 and enjoyed traveling throughout the Midwest in her motor home. Her other hobbies included embroidery-painting and fishing. She was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wilson. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6240 Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Russell. Mrs. Stoppel is survived by one daughter, Patricia Marie Demel of Great Bend; two sons, Earnest Alvin Stoppel and Carl Leroy Stoppel, both of Russell; and one granddaughter, Melissa Renee Demel of Kansas City, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, James Bushell; and one sister, Annie Bushell. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27 at the Pohlman-Heise Memorial Chapel in Russell, with the Rev. Henry J. Hartman officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson cemetery in Wilson. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Pohlman-Heise Mortuary. Floyd Charles Hauser, 91, of Great Bend, died Jan. 21 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. He was born June 20, 1913, at Ellinwood, the son of Ernest and Anna Lebbin Hauser. He married
Mildred Bragg on Jan. 28, 1933, at Kinsley. She died May 9, 1977. He married
Wilma Templing Kerbs on Dec. 7, 1979, at Great Bend. She survives, of the home. A resident of Great Bend since 1941, coming from Russell, he was the owner of Permanent Siding Company of Great Bend. Hauser was a member of First Christian Church, Great Bend. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Floyd 'Chuck' Hauser Jr., of Topeka; two stepsons, Brad Kerbs of St. Louis and Brent Kerbs of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Evelyn Davis of Wichita; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, G.O. Hauser and Vernon Hauser, and one sister, Dorothy Hancock. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Great Bend cemetery.
