ELLINWOOD - Halie Marie (Fuzzer) Zink, 11, died Jan. 1 in Great Bend. She was born Oct. 28, 1993, at Hoisington, the daughter of Anthony William 'Bill' and Tawnia Sue Morgan Zink. A longtime Ellinwood resident, she was a fifth grade student at St. Joseph Catholic School in Ellinwood, where she was a member of the volleyball and softball teams. Miss Zink was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood. Survivors include her parents of the home; two brothers, Anthony and Cody, and three sisters, Angela, Danielle and Amber, all of Ellinwood. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Elmer Morgan and Edna Lafayette; and her paternal grandparents, Anton J. and Evelyn J. Zink. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. John Maes and the Rev. Steve Scheier officiating. Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. today at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood, and a wake service will be at 7 tonight at the church. Burial will be at Holy Name Catholic cemetery in rural Bushton. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic School Endowment or Education Fund for Cody Bill, in care of the funeral home. Roy Dean Graves
1945 - 2005
PARIS, Texas - Roy Dean Graves, 59, of Paris, Texas, died on Jan. 2 at Paris Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5. A luncheon and visitation will be held at the senior center in Waldo, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, with a memorial service at 1:15 p.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Cole cemetery in Waldo. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home in Paris is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Graves was born Aug. 1, 1945, in Hutchinson, to Orie L. and Lois M. Eller Graves. He graduated from Great Bend schools and East Central State University in Ada, Okla., and worked as a rehabilitation counselor. He married Linda K. Bear on June 5, 1966, in Waldo. Mr. Graves was a Cub Scout leader and member of the Netcada Board. Mr. Graves is survived by his wife, Linda of Paris; three children, Terry Graves of Wynnewood, Okla., Janette Cornett of Paris, and Shawna Graves of Ada, Okla.; six grandchildren, Sara, Kyle, Kristen, and Justice Graves of Wanette, Okla., and Derek and Devan Cornett of Paris; a brother, Bill Graves of Ellsworth; and two sisters, Linda Graves of San Antonio, Texas, and Mary Jackson of Great Bend. Norma G. Archer
1915 - 2005
LARNED - Norma G. Archer, 89, died Jan. 1 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born March 21, 1915, at Pawnee Rock, the daughter of Benjamin J. and Susie Boase Koehn. She married Gerald Lee Archer on Nov. 20, 1937, at Dodge City. He died July 9, 1994. A longtime Larned resident, she was a retired Mental Health Technician and a homemaker. Mrs. Archer was a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both of Larned. Survivors include two sons, Craig, of Derby, and Brian, of Hutchinson; one daughter, Mona Archer, of Louisville, Colo.; one sister, Gladys Hungate, of Larned; three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Morell Funeral Home in Larned with the Rev. Tim Ault-Duell officiating. Burial will be at the Larned cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home. William Don Schwartz
1922 - 2005
HOISINGTON - William Don Schwartz, 82, died Jan. 1 at the Salina Regional Health Center. He was born Feb. 2, 1922, at Hoisington, the son of William Henry and Louise Prosser Schwartz. He married Rose D. Hekele on Oct. 25, 1948, at Odin. She survives. He was a retired farmer and retired employee of Essex in the shipping department, retiring in 1990. He was a lifetime Hoisington resident. Schwartz was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7428, both of Hoisington. He was a U.S. Navy Air Corps veteran of World War II with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. Survivors include his wife, Rose Schwartz of the home; three sons, David and Cathi Schwartz of Leawood, Ken and Virginia Schwartz of Salina, and Dan Schwartz of Hoisington; two daughters, Karen and Mike Zeleznak of Topeka, and Diane and Che Wong of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Eugene Schwartz of Topeka; one sister-in-law, Harriette Schwartz of Newton; seven grandchildren, Erin Schwartz, Courtney Schwartz and Abby Schwartz, Karl and Ernest Schwartz and Luke and Matt Zeleznak. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer, Edward, and Ray Schwartz; and two sisters, Helen Schulz and Betty Schwartz. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington, with Father Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at St. John Church cemetery in Hoisington with flag presentation by VFW Post No. 7428. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Kathleen Lutz, 70, of Great Bend, died Jan. 1 at her home. She was born Nov. 15, 1934, the daughter of Walter and Jennie Schartz Kummer. She married Denis Lutz on Oct. 16, 1965, at Great Bend. She was a Certified Public Accountant and was a lifetime resident of Great Bend. Mrs. Lutz was a member of the Catholic Community at St. Patrick in Great Bend, St. Patrick Altar Society, E.S.A. Sorority and the University of Kansas Alumni Association. Survivors include her husband, of the home; three sons, D.J. Lutz of Paducah, Ky., Dan Lutz of Dickinson, Texas, and Kent Lutz of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter, Michelle Kumke of Tooele, Utah; one brother, Tom Kummer of Great Bend; and seven grandchildren. Altar Society rosary will be at 4 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Ted Stoecklein officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Francis Joseph Hrencher

SHARON - Francis Joseph Hrencher, 84, passed away Sunday, Jan. 2, at Pratt. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sharon. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with Father John Strasser officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Catholic cemetery at Sharon. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Kiowa. Hrencher was born on Jan. 23, 1920, to Joseph and Josephine Eck Hrencher in Sharon. He attended school until the ninth grade. On Oct. 9, 1945, he and Virginia Ann Ming were united in marriage. He worked at the ASCS office as a field reporter and as a farmer all his life. He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church and was First Grand Master in the Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife; one brother, Clarence; one sister, Ruthelma Hallam; and an infant daughter. He is survived by four sons, Joe of Stillwater, Okla., Bill of Medicine Lodge, Mike of Viola, and Leroy of Sharon; four daughters, Kathleen Pennock of Medicine Lodge, Martha Gardner of Alva, Okla., Maxine Werner of Sharon, Theresa Weigel of Gorham; four sisters, Sister Philoma of Great Bend, Ida Theime of Zenda, Claudine Meng of Severy, and Josephine Inslee of Sharon; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Order of Dominican Sisters Mission and Ministry Fund through the funeral home. Freddie D. Walls, 75, of Great Bend, died Jan 1 at his home. He was born April 25, 1929, in St. John, the son of Fred C. and Ruth Shotton Walls. He married Barbara Jane Hall in May 1999, at Wichita. He was a farmer, rancher, owner-operator of Jandie Production Co. Inc. and a lifetime area resident. Walls was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Hudson, National Sorghum Association and National Corn Growers Association. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Keith Rose of Kansas City; six daughters, Karol Hickel of Wa Keeney, Jeanne Young of Seward, Shirley Yunker of Hays, Sharon Elliott of Nickerson, Kelli Hall and Karen Hall, both of the home; two brothers, Charles Walls of Ulysses, and George Walls of St. John; two sisters, Juanita Poorman of Chicago, Ill., and Della Ann Anderson of Riverton, Wyo.; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evon Schlotterbeck and Violet Nikkel; and one granddaughter, Kelli Jo Young. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Doyle Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend cemetery. Raymond G. Fair Jr.
1926 - 2004
ENTERPRISE - Raymond G. Fair Jr., 78, died Dec. 31 at the Enterprise Estates Nursing Center in Enterprise. He was born Dec. 13, 1926, at Abilene, the son of Raymond G. and Daisy Mae (Whitaker) Fair. He attended local schools and Abilene High School. He married Mary Lou Guyle in Junction City on Nov. 22, 1946. They lived in Abilene and he worked for the Abilene ReflectorChronicle as a pressman and make-up man for 34 years. In 1975 they moved to Great Bend, where he worked for The Great Bend Tribune until retiring in 1991. They moved to Enterprise in 1993. Fair was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Abilene, and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, of the home; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, H.L. (Red) Fair and two sisters, Mary Gladys Foust and Mildred Louise Burris. A parish rosary will be recited at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, following a 6:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Abilene, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Henry Baxa officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until the time of service. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or to the Enterprise Estates Nursing Center in Fair's memory. Vernon Leroy Miller

Vernon Leroy Miller, 83, of Great Bend, died Dec. 30 in Wichita. He was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Ellinwood, the son of George D. Miller Sr. and Marie Galliart Miller. He was a graduate of Ellinwood High School. He married Betty C. Panning on Nov. 4, 1945, at Ellinwood. She died Jan. 21, 2003. A farmer and rancher, he was co-owner of Cheyenne Angus Farms. He was a Great Bend resident for the past four years, formerly of Ellinwood. Miller was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ellinwood, and the American Angus Association. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Chari Miller of Great Bend; a brother, George Miller Jr. of Ellinwood; three grandchildren, Lori Greenfield and her husband, Donald, and Julie Moran and her husband, Todd, all of Lawrence, and Jill Wiechman and her husband, Aaron, of Valley Center; and four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Lacey Rose, Colin Greenfield and Ella Marie Wiechman. He was preceded in death by two sons, Max Leon and Allan Vernon. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ellinwood, with the Rev. Merlyn Lohrke officiating. Burial will be in Lakin-Comanche District cemetery, Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church. 'Dilly' Emma Faye Bergen

'Dilly' Emma Faye Bergen, 64, died Dec. 30 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. She was born Jan. 10, 1940, at Great Bend, the daughter of Sam and Emma Farris Salem. She was a graduate of Hudson High School and graduated from cosmetology school. She was the owner/operator of Dilly's Restaurant. She had been a resident of Great Bend since 1964, coming here from Hudson. Bergen was a member of First Southern Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, George, of the home; a son, Stanton Bergen of Hudson; two daughters, Rhonda Hughes of Great Bend and Shelly Bottcher of Grandview, Mo.; a brother, David Salem of Hudson; and four grandchildren, Stephanie and Dalton Hughes and Emmaly and Evan Bottcher. She was preceded in death by her father and by her mother, who died at childbirth. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Southern Baptist Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Doyle Smith officiating. Interment will be in Great Bend cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend.
