Myrtle M. Eveleigh, 93, died Feb. 20, 2005, at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born Aug. 5, 1911, in Barton County, the daughter of Frank A. and Liva Sharp Eveleigh. Myrtle was a rural school teacher in Barton County, retiring from Ellinwood School District. A lifetime Barton County area resident, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Great Bend. Her family and friends were the love of her life. She lived, she loved, she died in the arms of her Savior. Other memberships include the Retired Teachers Association, National Education Association and KNEA. Survivors include a brother, Bob Eveleigh, Great Bend; four sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Pearl) Birzer and Mrs. Ruby Bramel, both of Great Bend, Mrs. Wes (Florence) Saunders, Springfield, Mo., and Mrs. Frank (Dorothy) McIntire, Las Vegas, Nev.; 18 nieces and nephews; 21 greatnieces and nephews; four great-great nieces and nephews; and many school friends and neighbors. Myrtle was preceded in death by four brothers, Mr. C.W. (Woodrow) Eveleigh, Mr. John Eveleigh; and two twin brothers; as well as two sisters, Mrs. Joe (Maude) Habiger and Mrs. Alvin (Jessie) Pedigo. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Interment will be at Olivet cemetery in Hoisington. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 .m. Wednesday and Thursday, with family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, all at the funeral home. Vera Jane Steierl
1925 - 2005
HUTCHINSON - Vera Jane Steierl, 79, went to be with her Lord on Feb. 20 at the Good Samaritan Center in Hutchinson. She was born Aug. 8, 1925, at rural Raymond, the daughter of Ben Martin and Jannie Elizabeth Licktieg Cruth. She was a 1943 graduate of Raymond High School. She married Clifford Vern 'Bud' Steierl on July 26, 1942, in Raymond. He survives. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a bus driver for Buhler School District, retiring in 1995. Mrs. Steierl was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Extension Home Unit and Ventures IV Sunday School Class. Other survivors include one son, William M. Steierl of Buhler; two daughters, Jane Ann Cruse of Great Bend, and Jean M. Welch of Ellinwood; three sisters, Anna M. Burns of Lyons, Alberta F. Zongker of Hutchinson, and Eva Ann Cook of Fair Grove, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Guthrie, Margaret Stuart and Velma Hoelcher. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Southern Baptist Church in Hutchinson, with Pastor Ray E. Kempel officiating. Burial will be at Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Elliot Chapel in Hutchinson. James E. Allen
1946 - 2005
PITTSBURG - James E. Allen, 58, died Feb. 17 at Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg. He was born April 28, 1946, in Drumright, Okla., the son of Jack and Maxine (Norland) Allen. He graduated from Larned High School with the Class of 1964. He graduated from Pittsburg State University with a bachelor of arts degree in nursing. He worked at Larned State Hospital for many years, retiring in 1989. He had lived in Larned, Galva, McPherson, Hoisington and in Pittsburg for the last 15 years. Survivors include two sons, Tavis and Kaile Allen, both of Pittsburg; two daughters, Sasha Jefferson of Pittsburg and Mika Allen of Olathe; a sister, Janice Allen; and three grandsons. At the family's request, James's body has been taken for cremation. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsburg. Isidra Garcia de Banda
1935 - 2005
SALINA - Isidra Garcia de Banda, 69, died Feb. 17. She was born May 15, 1935, at Abrego F. Zac, Mexico. She was a homemaker. Survivors include five sons, Manuel Banda of Garden City, Jose A. Banda and Juan Banda of Salina, and Arcadia Banda and Fernando Escobedo of Great Bend; four daughters, Socorro Rodriguez, Rosa Torres and Delia Settle, all of Salina, and Beatriz Hernandez of Great Bend; three brothers, Jose Garcia and Angel Garcia, both of Mexico, and Francisco Garcia of Salina; 37 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Banda; one brother, Margarito Garcia; and one sister, Guadaloupe Garcia. A rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Ryan Mortuary. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina. Burial will be at the Mount Calvary cemetery in Salina. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. on Monday at the mortuary and then at the church prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association of Kansas. Regina Sauber
1924 - 2005
ELLINWOOD - Regina Sauber, 80, died Feb. 19 at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born Sept. 14, 1924, in rural Bushton, the daughter of Frank and Sophia Oberle Miller. She married Ambrose M. Sauber March 25, 1948, at Ellinwood. A homemaker, she was a lifetime resident of Rice and Barton counties. Sauber was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its Altar Society, both of Ellinwood. Survivors include her husband, Ambrose, of the home in Ellinwood; a son, Dave Sauber of Ellinwood; two daughters, Marcia Sauber of Ellinwood and Colleen Ward of Hutchinson; three grandchildren, Konan Hauser, Kory Hauser and Amanda Sauber; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia Hauser and Shadow Myers. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Miller and Dick Miller, and a sister, Cecilia Miller. An Altar Society Rosary will be at 3 p.m. Monday and a parish rosary at 7 p.m. Monday, both at Kimple Funeral Home, Ellinwood. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, with the Rev. John Maes officiating. Burial will be in Lakin-Comanche District cemetery, Ellinwood. Edward O. Doll
1924 - 2005
CLAFLIN - Edward O. Doll, 80, died Feb. 16 at Central Kansas Medical Center. He was born Nov. 24, 1924, in rural Ellinwood, the son of Joseph A. and Mary R. Habiger Doll. He married Merlene Hopkins on April 26, 1948, at Claflin. She survives. He was a resident of Claflin since 1995, coming from the family farm south of Claflin. He was a farmer and stockman. Doll was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1500, Ralph B. Praeger VFW Post 8668 and past school board member of USD 428, all of Claflin; and past board member of Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. of Ellinwood. Survivors include his wife, Merlene Doll of the home; two sons, Douglas Doll of Joplin, Mo., and Allen Doll of Olathe; one daughter, Jean Hughes of Golden, Colo.; one brother, Emanuel Doll of Ingalls; two sisters, Cecelia Robl of Wichita and Germaine Tenholder of Topeka; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Doll, Albert Doll and Warren Doll, and three sisters, Laura Oberle, Marcella Eisenberg and Florentine Doll. Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday followed by Knights of Columbus Rosary at the church. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin, with the Rev. John Maes officiating. Burial will be at the Claflin cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 7428 and American Legion Post 286. Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington and from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the church and Saturday 9 a.m. to service time at the church. ELLINWOOD - Richard 'Dick' Gary Norwood, 65, died Feb. 16 at the VA Hospital in Wichita. He was born Dec. 21, 1939, at Denver, the son of Stanley and Ruth St. Clair Norwood. He married Karen Sheldon at Burlington, Colo. She died Aug. 25, 2001. He was an Ellinwood resident for the past 1 1/2 years, formerly of Burlington, Colo. He was a ranch hand. Norwood was a member of the Professional Bullriders Association. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam Conflict. Survivors include two sons, Clint Norwood and Shawn Norwood, both of Rock Springs, Wyo.; one daughter, Patricia McAffee of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two stepsons, Robert Spring of Derby and J.D. Sheldon of Otis; two stepdaughters, Debbie Glenn and Deadra Schlotthauer, both of Ellinwood; his father, Stanley Norwood of Las Vegas, Nev.; one brother, Denny Norwood of Evans, Colo.; and five grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Love Funeral Chapel in Burlington, Colo., with the Rev. Aubrey Howell officiating. Burial will be at the Fairview cemetery in Burlington, Colo. ALBERT - Ida Bertha Mausolf, 93, died Feb. 16 at Woodhaven of Ellinwood. She was born Oct. 20, 1911, in Barton County, the daughter of John J. and Minnie C. Dumkow Oetken. She married Virgil L. Mausolf on March 3, 1935, at Albert. He died Sept. 13, 1996. She was a homemaker. She was a lifetime resident of Rush County. Mausolf was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of Peace Lutheran Church Women's Group. Survivors include three daughters, Wanda L. Unruh and husband Darrel of Newton, Rose Ann Steitz and husband Roger of Concordia, Mo., and Jean M. Workman and husband Leslie of Great Bend; five grandchildren, Bryan Unruh, Mark Steitz, David Steitz, Wesley Workman and Daryl Workman; and eight great grandchildren, Rebekah Unruh, Anna Elizabeth Unruh, Kendra Unruh, Joel Unruh, Desiree Workman, Tucker Workman, Tabor Workman and Madilyn McConnell. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Eddie Oetken, Otto Oetken, Harry Oetken, Fred Oetken, Lewis Oetken and William Oetken; one sister, Matilda Oetken; and one great-granddaughter, Alicia Workman. Prayer service will be Monday at 7 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Albert, with Pastor Jack Russell officiating. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran cemetery in Albert. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-9 p.m. and Monday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the church or ElderCare, Inc. or Woodhaven of Ellinwood in care of the funeral home. Louise C. Johnson

Louise C. Johnson, 87, died Feb. 15 at the Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Oct. 7, 1917, at Bryan, Okla., the daughter of John C. and Nova Ray Puteet Commander. She married Eddie R. Johnson on Nov. 23, 1939, at Liberal. He died Dec. 12, 1965. She had been a resident of Great Bend for three years, coming from Hugoton. She was a homemaker. Johnson was a member of the First Christian Church, Rebekah Lodge and Kingdom Light Givers, all of Hugoton. She was an active member in her church and enjoyed gardening and canning. She was an avid quilter and many people were recipients of her beautifully crocheted afghans. Survivors include one son, Edwin R. 'Ed' and Renee Johnson of Great Bend; two brothers, Jay Commander and Joe Commander, both of Palestine, Texas; three sisters, Elsie Ralston of Ardmore, Okla., Era Lee Turman of Amarillo, Texas, and Beulah Commander of Terrell, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Delia Johnson of Lakeview, Ore.; two grandchildren, Shane Johnson of Boise, Idaho, and Dena and Ben Down of Sacramento, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Alyson, Delaney and Jordan. She was preceded in death by a son, Raymon Johnson, two brothers, Glen and Charley Commander and a sister, Effie Holt. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, 600 S. VanBuren in Hugoton, with the Rev. Jack Aenk officiating. Burial will be at the Hugoton cemetery. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. EUREKA, Calif. - Ardella Rose Susavilla died Jan. 31 at her home. She was born Oct. 20, 1926, at Great Bend, the daughter of Lincoln and Susan Schultz. She was a 1944 graduate of Great Bend High School. She married John Cyril Susavilla in 1946. She had been a resident of Eureka, Calif., since 1947. Survivors include three sons, Steven, Timothy and Larry; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Susavilla. Funeral services were held Feb. 7 at Sanders Funeral Home in Eureka, Calif. Burial was at the Ocean View cemetery.

Frederich Alan Aden

GODFREY, Ill. - Frederich Alan Aden, 58, died Feb. 15 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton, Ill. He was born June 27, 1946, in Great Bend, the son of George Frederich and Margaret Virginia Funk Aden. He had been a resident of Beverly Farm Foundation Logan Hall in Godfrey, Ill., for 34 years. Survivors include his parents, Fred and Margaret Aden of Great Bend. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home, with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend cemetery.
