JACOB'S CREEK, HARTFORD, Kan. - Richard 'Casey' Lee Casey, 63, died Feb. 9 at his home. He was born Jan. 1, 1942, at Cleveland, Okla., the son of Elmer Lee and Betty Lou Ogden Casey. He married
Carolyn Ann Myers April 13, 1985, at Great Bend. She survives. He was a retired carpenter and a truck driver for JB Hunt. He had lived in Jacob's Creek, Hartford, since 1991, moving from Great Bend. Casey was of the Baptist faith. Survivors, besides his wife, of the home, include four sons, Danny Casey of the Kansas City metropolitan area, David Goldsmith of Hartford, John Skinner of Great Bend and Daniel Skinner of Hutchinson; two stepsons, Brian Arnold and Rob Arnold, both of Overland Park; two daughters, Laura Reynolds of St. Charles, Mo., and Amy Schmitt of Burdett; two brothers, Jim Casey of Lyons and Ron Casey of Hemphill, Texas; one sister, Pam Capps of the Kansas City area; and seven grandchildren. Casey was preceded in death by a sister, Marquita 'Quitie' Chism. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Interment will be in Hilltop cemetery at Raymond. Bernard Arlyn Linke

DUNCAN, Okla. - Bernard Arlyn Linke, 69, died Sunday, Feb. 6, in Duncan Regional Hospital in Duncan. Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at The Assumption Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald J. Wolf officiating. Burial was at Resthaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. A Rosary service was held at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home chapel. Arlyn was born July 2, 1935, in Great Bend, to Bernard L. and Marie Schartz Linke. He married
the love of his life, Donna Karlin, on May 5, 1955, and they were married
46 years. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2002. Arlyn was an oilfield salesman and store manager for over 40 years. He coached summer baseball for seven years and later helped with his grandchildren's ball with a storehouse of wisdom. He especially loved taking his grandsons fishing. He and Mom made it to almost every event their grandchildren participated in ... singing, plays, baseball, basketball, and softball games. No matter how it turned out, they were always proud of their grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and grandchildren and collected stamps and coins. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Steve and Gayla Linke of Velma, Okla., Bob and Lisa Linke of Norman, Okla., and John and Vicki Linke of Comanche, Okla.; one daughter, Sandy Condit of Duncan, Okla.; one daughter-in-law, Lisa Ann Linke of Duncan, Okla.; two brothers and their wives, Bob and Marietta Linke of Chewelah, Wash., and Cletus and Pam Linke of Lake Wylie, S.C.; one sister and her husband, Delita and Jerry Almquist of McPherson; eight grandchildren, Jana Spielman and her husband Justin of Arkansas City, Chris Johnson and her husband Alex of Foster, Selena Condit of Duncan, Okla., Jared Condit and wife Brittany of Velma, David and Jessica Linke of Norman, and Vince and Dylan Linke of Duncan, Okla.; one great granddaughter, Hunter Nichol Johnson of Foster; and many precious brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and good friends. ELLINWOOD - Juanita Milam, 90, died Feb. 8 at Ellinwood District Hospital. She was born March 13, 1914, in Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Fronia Payne Byerly. She married
Ira Milam on June 25, 1934, at Lyons. He died Oct. 5, 1993. She was a longtime Ellinwood resident, formerly of Russell. She was a retired bookkeeper at Knop Oil Co. in Ellinwood. She worked there for nearly 50 years. Milam was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ellinwood. Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Thomas of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Virgil Byerly of Kinsley; two sisters, Peggy Fansler of Hutchinson and Betty Burton of Great Bend; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert (Bob) and Walter (Pete), and a sister, Mary Grant. GORHAM - Mathilda Tillie Streck, 85, died Feb. 7 at Hays Regional Medical Center. She was born June 19, 1919, in Russell, the daughter of John and Caroline Bender. She attended Russell area schools. She married
Benjamin Streck on Oct. 17, 1943, at Galatia. He died on Oct. 18, 1986. She was a homemaker and a longtime Gorham-area resident. Survivors include two brothers, Clarence Bender of Russell and Leroy Bender of Garden City; two sisters, Elsie Boger and Viola Barrett, both of Wichita; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one infant daughter, Gloria Kean Streck; and two sisters, Alice Wagner and Josephine Ehrlich. Myrtle Daniel, 71, of Great Bend, died Feb. 5 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born April 20, 1933, at Summerfield, La., the daughter of Johnny B. and Ole B. Robinson Cheeks. She had been a resident of Great Bend since 1967, where she was employed by Melvin and Ruth Nuss for 38 years. Mrs. Daniel was a member of First United Baptist Church in Hoisington. Survivors include two sons, Willie Cheeks of North Plate, Neb., and Gregory Daniel, Chicago, Ill.; one daughter, Jeanette Williams of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Bobby Robinson and Harry Robinson, both of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Linda Faye Smith of Jasper, Texas, and Rosetta Beard of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Lee Cheeks, and Kenneth Robinson; and two sisters, Celese Coleman, and Jennie Lee Fowler. LARNED - Olga Rose Gillett, 84, died Feb. 8 at St. Joseph Memorial Long Term Care in Larned. She was born Oct. 18, 1920, near Conway, the daughter of Alfred T. and Frieda Siemsen Lueck. She attended Holyrood schools and was a graduate of Holyrood High School. She married
Chester E. Gillett on Dec. 22, 1946, at Ellinwood. He died Sept. 14, 1987. A lifelong resident of Larned, moving from Holyrood, she was a homemaker. Gillett was a member of the First Christian Church in Larned. Survivors include three brothers, Wilbur Lueck of Santa Anna, Calif., Harlan F. Lueck of Lexington, Neb., and Lloyd M. Lueck of Wichita Falls, Texas; and three grandsons. She was preceded in death by a son, David Gillett, and a grandson, Steven Gillett. ABILENE - Terry D. Stephens, 63, died Feb. 8 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He was born Nov. 21, 1941, at Alexander, the son of Fay and Verneta Seltmann Stephens. He attended Dodge City Community College before transferring to Emporia State University where he attained his undergraduate and graduate degrees in English. He was a teacher in Inman for one year, and spent the next 32 years at Abilene High School, where he taught English and debate. He had also worked for the Abilene 'Reflector-Chronicle.' Stephens was a member of the Methodist Church of Alexander. He served two terms as president of the Abilene City Teachers Association, and was a chamber of commerce volunteer. Survivors include one brother, Robert E. Stephens of Abilene; and other family members. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Danner Funeral Home in Abilene, with Dr. Frank Holtz officiating. Burial will be at the Abilene cemetery. OBERLIN - Irvan Frank Courange, 81, died Feb. 5 at Cedar Living Center in Oberlin. He was born Jan. 21, 1924, at Beaver, the son of Joe and Mary Demel Courange. He married
Maralyn Magers on March 18, 1961, in McCook, Neb. He was an oilfield roughneck. He had been a resident of McCook, Neb., Bakersfield and Buena Park, Calif., Oberlin and then Traer. Courange was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Herndon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Rocky Courange and Clayton Courange, both of Oberlin; one daughter Kelly Brown of Oberlin; two step-sons, Bradford Ware of Gettysburg, S.D. and Kirk Ware of Oberlin; four brothers, Clarence Courange of Laverne, Okla., Joe Courange of Canadian, Texas, Jim Courange of Hoisington, and Eugene Courange of Pratt; four sisters, Mary Ann Ash of Canadian, Texas, Victoria Hubbarb of Vemal, Utah, and Joanne Torrez and Helen Klein, both of Hoisington; 11 grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Victor Courange; and two sisters, Marjorie Cooper and Irene Green. Vigil service will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Paul's Funeral Home in Oberlin. RUSSELL - John W. Hanson, 84, died Feb. 7 at Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell. He was born March 23, 1920, at Ness City, the son of Charles and Blanche Malin Hanson. A former school teacher, he had been a resident of Russell since 1992, moving from Great Bend. Survivors include one brother, Dale Hanson of Weatherford, Okla.; and one sister, Marjory Hanson of Sherman Oakes, Calif. He was preceded in death by one brother, Hugh Hanson. Sister Monica Staudinger

Sister Monica Staudinger, 97, died Feb. 7 in the Dominican Sisters' convent infirmary in Great Bend. Sister Monica was born March 20, 1907, in Dubuque, Kan., as Marie Staudinger. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community on June 2, 1923, and pronounced her first vows March 9, 1926. She celebrated 75 years of religious profession in 2001. Sister Monica was a lifelong teacher, having been in some aspect of the education of elementary children of Kansas from 1926 to 1991. She taught grades 3 through 8 in almost 20 different parochial schools, often being the principal as well as a teacher. After semi-retirement, she still worked in school libraries, taught religion or music, or served as a substitute teacher. Sister Monica is survived by one sister, Sister Veronica Staudinger of Great Bend, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Veronica Woydziak Staudinger; six brothers, the Rev. Joseph Staudinger OSB, Adolph, Anton, Henry, Carl and Robert Staudinger; and one sister, Helen Staudinger Malone. Sister Monica's body will be brought to the hospitality area of the Dominican Chapel of the Plains, 3600 Broadway, Great Bend, at 4:30 p.m. today, where it will lie in state until the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Thursday. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the convent. Burial will be in the Sisters' Resurrection cemetery.
