WILSON - Gladys B. Olds, 83, died April 24, at her home in Wilson. She was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Dubuque, the daughter of Frederick and Della Janne Heinze. She grew up in Dubuque; lived in Wichita shortly during the war; and relocated to Wilson and lived there the rest of her life. She was a clerk at Shaw's Grocery and Olds' Motor Company, and also a homemaker. She married
Francis Olds on Aug. 9, 1941, at Dubuque. Mrs. Olds was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wilson, Sirosis/Federated Study Club, Church Quilting Club, American Legion Auxiliary, ALCW, Women of the Church and Central Kansas Square Dancers. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Alan Olds and wife Wilma of Wilson; one daughter, Peggy Soeken and husband Ron of Lorraine; one sister, Ellva Willson of Osborne; two aunts, Viola Shaw and Toots Janne, both of Wilson; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Heinze and Dean Heinze, and two sisters, Hilda Betz and Leola Riley. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wilson, with Pastor Jim Wagner officiating. Burial will be at the Wilson City cemetery in Wilson. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Foster Mortuary in Wilson (casket will be closed.) LYONS - Debra G. McClelland, 50, died April 25 at the Lyons District Hospital in Lyons. She was born Jan. 26, 1955, at Blackwell, Okla., the daughter of Dixon and Goldie Mae Simmons Steadman. She was a resident of Lyons for three years, coming from Geneseo, and she was a homemaker. Mrs. McClelland was a member of the Southern Baptist faith. Survivors include one son, James McClelland, Winfield; three daughters, Reashell Kuhns, Hutchinson, Angila McClelland, Wichita, and Blanche Davis, Lyons; her father, Dixon Steadman, Chase; one brother, Clifford Steadman, Wichita; one sister, Goldie I. Mathis, Newport Richie, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Charlene Steadman; one brother, Floyd Steadman; and one sister, Tredda Steadman. George J. Lloyd

George J. Lloyd, 78, died April 21 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born March 18, 1927, in Great Bend, the son of Ira C. and Lillie M. Neidens Lloyd. He was a lifetime resident of Great Bend and was a custodian for USD 428 for six years, retiring in 1989, and worked for the Thies Packing Company for 29 years. Lloyd was a member of the Catholic Community of Great Bend, St. Rose, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy with the rank of seaman first class. Survivors include two sons, Galen C. Lloyd and Richard K. Lloyd, both of Great Bend; four daughters, Cathy D. Apeland of Aubrey, Texas, Lawanda Ritchie of Haltom City, Texas, Pamela Webb of Burkburnett, Texas, and Penny M. Murray of Great Bend; one brother, Bill Drummond of Great Bend; one sister, Irene Sargent of Great Bend; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ira Lloyd. Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. Ted Stoecklein officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend, with military honors conducted by a Fort Riley Honor Guard. Carol Rose Riemann-Hoden

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. - Carol Rose Riemann-Hoden, 65, formerly of Claflin, died April 13 in a hospital in Reno, Nev. She was born Dec. 24, 1939, in Claflin, the daughter of Neal and LaVelle Riemann. She grew up in Claflin and graduated from Salt Lake City Business College in Hutchinson in 1957. She married
John Hoden in November 1963. He survives. Other survivors include one son, John Kevin Hoden of Reno, Nev.; two brothers, Jim Riemann of Ellinwood and Gerald Riemann of Hutchinson; and two sisters, Wanda Kuhn of Great Bend and Beverly Stein of Decatur, Ill. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Norma Jean Price of Lawrence, and Phyllis Arlene Riemann and Roberta Mae Riemann, both of Claflin. Memorial services will be conducted in the future.
Mary Belle 'Polly' Parrish

Mary Belle 'Polly' Parrish, 76, died April 21 at her residence in Great Bend. She was born Feb. 4, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Claire O. and Dorothy Willman Pollock. She married
Robert A. Parrish on Sept. 1, 1949, at Kansas City, Mo. He survives. She was a homemaker. She was a resident of Great Bend since 1950, coming from Lawrence. She attended Southwest High School in Kansas City, Mo., and the University of Kansas, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was a Red Cross volunteer working at the blood bank, an early volunteer during the start-up of KOOD Public Television station, a Girl Scout Neighborhood chairman and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a member of the DU Chapter of P.E.O. Her avocation was Republican Party politics and she served as precinct committeewoman for more than a quarter of a century. She was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1976 and again in 1988. She was on the Republican State Committee and co-chairman of the Kansas Day Club. She was county or area campaign chairman for President Bush, Sens. Pearson, Dole, Kassebaum and Roberts, as well as Congressman Sebelius. She was also county campaign chairman for state candidates Gov. Robert Bennett and Mike Hayden and Attorney General Bob Stephan. She was in charge of the Barton County Republican Headquarters during elections for many years. In 2001, the Kansas State Republican Party selected her as the year's Outstanding Volunteer. Survivors include her husband, Robert A. Parrish of the home; one son, Rob Parrish of Lawrence; two daughters, Cheryl bornkessel of Overland Park and Cynthia Viskocil of River Falls, Wis.; one stepbrother, Jon M. Pollock of DeSoto; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Marjorie Crawford, and one grandchild. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Great Bend, with the Rev. Diana Coberly officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend cemetery. Joseph C. Gross
1914 - 2005
Joseph C. Gross, 90, a longtime Russell County rancher, passed away April 20 in Tiburon, Calif. He was born in Russell County Oct. 24, 1914. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lois Gross of Novato, Calif., and his three children: Dr. Linda Brauner, her husband David and their children, Hallie and Lindsay; Janis Schwab and her children, L.L., Bradley, Diedra and Heather; and Dr. Joseph M. Gross and his children, Michael and Angela; his brothers William C. Gross, Robert U. Gross and Dean R. Gross; his sisters Betty Woodward and JoAnne Pfeffer; and many great-grandchildren and friends. His lifelong interest and passion spanning 70 years was the raising of registered Angus cattle on his beloved Saline Valley Angus ranch. In the 1950s, the woman who started the American Red Angus Association made frequent trips to the ranch in order to obtain some of the foundation stock for that registry. He also sold breeding stock to people all over the Midwest. He kept very meticulous records and when he thought one of the calves he sold to a breeder in Illinois was judged Grand Champion of the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago, he obtained the tattoo from the animal's ear. It was indeed a calf sired in his herd. He was a lifetime member of the American Aberdeen Angus Association and the Kansas Farm Bureau, and was an underwriter for the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York. He was instrumental in the creation of the Russell County Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed playing bridge there. He was a member of his local 4-H club and showed several Grand Champion steers. He had a great love of dogs and horses. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He attended Stevens Point one-room school in rural Russell County, Russell High School and two years of college at the University of Kansas. A memorial service was held Friday, April 22, at the Marin Civic Center in San Rafael, Calif., and another will be held at a later date in Russell County, Kan. HOISINGTON - Rosie Niedens, 80, died April 22 at Garden Terrace, Overland Park. She was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Russell County, the daughter of Emanuel and Mollie (Beck) Boxberger. She married
Otto H. Niedens on Dec. 12, 1945, at Susank. He died May 7, 2004. She was a housekeeping supervisor at Hoisington Lutheran Hospital for 32 years, retiring in 1989. A longtime Hoisington resident, she had moved to Harrisonville, Mo., in 2001. Mrs. Niedens was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary, all of Hoisington. Survivors include two sons, Gerald Niedens and his wife Cynthia of Harrisonville, Mo., and Doyle Niedens and his wife Sandy of Forsyth, Ga.; and three grandchildren, Jeffrey Niedens of Columbia, Mo., Jeremy Niedens of Peoria, Ill., and Jay Allen of Independence, Mo. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer, Leo and Clarence Boxberger, and three sisters, Tabea Dumler, Irene Noe and Dorothy Niedens. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, with Pastor Garry Dassow officiating. Burial will be at the Hoisington cemetery. Joseph (Joe) C. Gross, 90, died April 20 in Tiburon, Calif. Joe was a well-known farmer, rancher and cattleman, formerly of Russell County. He and his wife, Mary Lois, lived north of Bunker Hill for many years before moving to California. She survives. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Russell.

Cecelia Rachel Gale Furrey, 84, died April 21 at Great Bend. She was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Wales, Great Britain, the daughter of Henry and Elsie (Griffith) Gale. She married
Fredrick Nelson Furrey in Great Britain in August 1944. She was a homemaker. Furrey was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Eagles Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of Great Bend. Survivors include three sons, Bruce Furrey and Michael Furrey, both of Great Bend, and Douglas Furrey of Washington state; four daughters, Darlene Crone, Lisa Phillips and Phyllis McCormick, all of Great Bend, and Bronwyn Furrey of Pawnee Rock; two sisters, Anne Swift of Tyler, Texas, and Patricia Tamplin of Wales; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Phyllis Stokes, a daughter, Gayle Ann Furrey, a grandchild and a great-grandchild. A memorial service will be announced later. NEKOMA - E. Wayne 'Bud' Snodgrass, 76, died April 21 at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in La Crosse. He was born Feb. 20, 1929, at La Crosse, the son of Estle F. and Mary C. (Bottom) Snodgrass. He was a 1947 graduate of Rozel High School. He married
Dillie Turley on Feb. 8, 1959, in Ness City. She survives. He was a farmer and a lifelong resident of Pawnee and Rush counties. Snodgrass was a member of the First Christian Church in La Crosse; American Legion Life Member of Burdett; Walnut City Masonic Lodge #215 member of Rush Center; Isis Shriners member of Salina; Scottish Rite of Free Masonry Life Member of Salina; Lions Club Charter Member of Rush Center; and Eastern Star #226 Member of Great Bend. He was also a member of the United States Army, stationed as a member of the Radar Unit in White Sands, N.M. Survivors include his wife, Dillie Snodgrass of Nekoma; one son, Orville Snodgrass of Nekoma; one daughter, Helen Thorne of Rush Center; one brother, Dean Snodgrass of Dodge City; and two sisters, Florence Magerfleisch of Denver and Alice Kirby of Grants Pass, Ore. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul Snodgrass, Lonnie Snodgrass, Adolph Snodgrass and Ralph Snodgrass; and one sister, Ina Snodgrass.
