ELLINWOOD - Maleah Marie Menges-Stark, stillborn, died April 4 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. She was the daughter of Bobby Stark and Monika Michelle Menges. Survivors include her parents; paternal grandmother, Annie Stark of Heizer; maternal grandparents, Mike and Belinda Menges of Ellinwood; and maternal great-grandparents, Jerry and Gerri Menges. McPHERSON - Glenda Vivian Owen, 86, died April 5 at the Cedars Health Care Center in McPherson. She was born Dec. 18, 1918, at Great Bend, the daughter of Jacob and Botilda Meunch. She was a graduate of Great Bend High School. She married
William Emmett Owen on May 27, 1945, at Great Bend. He died on April 4, 1996. She had been a resident of McPherson since 2004, coming from Adelato, Calif. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Harry Owen Oil Company in Great Bend, retired, and later worked as a bookkeeper for the Great Bend Co-op. Owen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hesperia, Calif. Survivors include one son, Harry L. Owen of McPherson; one daughter, Glenda L. Brandon of McPherson; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Great Bend cemetery with the Rev. Michael J. Fibranz officiating. HAYS - Emmerentia 'Emmy' Werth, age 89, died Tuesday, April 5, at her home in Hays. Emmy was born Feb. 29, 1916, at Vincent, to Henry and Mary (Schrage) Haselhorst. She was a schoolteacher until getting married
to Paul Werth on June 10, 1941. He died Dec. 20, 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays. Survivors include six sons, Arlen Werth and his wife Gay of Great Bend, Ivan Werth and his wife Shirley of Hays, Firman Werth and his wife Irene of Ellsworth, Gary Werth and his wife Lisa of Schoenchen, Wayne Werth of Hutchinson and Alton Werth and his wife Terri of Pittsburg, Texas; five daughters, Marilyn Leiker and her husband Alex of Hays, Donna Jacobs and her husband Ron of McCook, Neb., Carolyn Windholz and her husband Wayne of Victoria, Joan Leatherman of Joplin, Mo., and Ellen Montgomery and her husband Tom of Hays; two brothers, Elmer Haselhorst of Longmont, Colo., and Harold Haselhorst of Hays; three sisters, Dorothy Sauer of Hays, Frances Hutton of Gardner and Mary Jane Schmidt of Wichita; 38 grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 23 stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Haselhorst, Norbert Haselhorst and Irvin Haselhorst; and two sisters, Esther Basgall and Henrietta Byinton. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's cemetery in Schoenchen. Carolyn Eckert

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - Carolyn Eckert, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 4, at F. F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, N.Y. Carolyn was born in Woodson on Aug. 11, 1939, the daughter of Leslie and Marjorie (Allen) Aldrich. She spent her early adult years in Kansas, working as a secretary for various firms including Radio Station KVOE. When her children were born she dedicated her life to her family. The family moved to Canandaigua in 1970, where she began working at Sonneberg Gardens in 1972. She remained at Sonneberg until 1993 as the assistant to the director. She then worked for the Canandiagua Chamber of Commerce for 10 years before retiring and then becoming a consultant to the Ontario County Tourism Bureau. Carolyn was also a tireless volunteer with the Gleaners' Kitchen. She is survived by her daughter, Dee Eckert (Par) Lundqvist of Torslanda, Sweden; her son, Dave Eckert of Webster, N.Y.; her sisters, Barbara (Claude J.) Osbourne of Traverse City, Mich., Helen (Jim) Pickert of Emporia, and Margaret (C.J.) Ochs of Wichita; her brother, Charles (Sharon) Aldrich of Tulsa, Okla.; her beloved grandchildren, Mimmi and Jacob; and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents and her brother, Leslie Aldrich Jr. There will be a gathering of friends for a celebration of her life on Thursday, April 7, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Ontario County Tourism Office, 25 Gorham St., Canandaigua, N.Y. HIGGINSVILLE, Mo. - Ray Allen Wallace, 58, passed away Sunday, April 3, at his home. He was born June 7, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo., to Forrest Jefferson Wallace, Jr. and Rosa May McClintick Wallace. He was a truck driver distributor for Capital Sand Co. He was a member of Lexington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4052 and the Lexington Moose Lodge. Ray is survived by two sons, Jeramie Daniel Wallace of Lexington, Mo., and Anthony 'Tony' Aaron Wallace and wife, Mandy, of Higginsville, Mo.; his mother, Rosa Mae Ellerbeck and his step-father, Ellis Ellerbeck of Kansas City, Mo.; step-mother, Joyce Pace of Hoisington; sister, Linda Williams of Independence, Mo.; two half-sisters, Beverly Schmeidler of Great Bend and Amy Smith of Basehor; a half-brother, Rodney Pace, Macon, Mo.;five grandchildren, Tyler Daniel, Darian Rose, Payton Daniel, Lain Xavier, Autumn Rose and soon to be, Philip Daniel Allen Wallace. He was preceded in death by his father and a son, Philip Daniel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, at the Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington. Doris E. McCormick Johnson on Aug. 19, 1974, at Key West, Fla. She died Dec. 13, 2000. He married
Kathleen E. Wilkerson Plum on Dec. 18, 2004, at Russell. He was an independent contractor for the U.S. Postal Service. He had been a resident of Great Bend for 12 years, coming from Salina. He was a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1979 at the rank of Chief. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen E. Mai of the home; two sons, E.T. Mai of Hays and Stephen E. Mai of Great Bend; two daughters, Jana Matthes of Des Moines, Iowa, and Skye N. Mai of the home; three step-sons, William Johnson, Jr. of Stuart, Va., L.B. Johnson of Swan Quarter, N.C., and Edward R. Johnson of Great Bend; two step-daughters, Sarina L. Johnson of Salina and Jennifer L. Ganesh of Atlanta, Ga.; his mother, Regina D. Mai of Loveland, Colo.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and six step-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the Central Baptist Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Gordon E. Rhodes officiating. Burial will be at the Russell cemetery at a later date. Patrick Chris Kelley

Patrick Chris Kelley, 46, died April 2, 2005, at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born June 17, 1958, at Colby, the son of Vernon F. and Phyllis Marie Heagney Kelley. His early years were spent on a farm near Selden. His hometown is Fredonia, where he graduated from high school in 1976. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1982 and began his teaching career in fifth grade at Mulvane. Patrick married
Nancy Zaring on July 2, 1983, in Yates Center. He earned his Master's in School Administration from Wichita State University, and the family moved to Hugoton for two years where he worked as an assistant principal in the elementary building. His first job as principal was with the K-8 building in Cherokee from 1992-1995. Returning to Mulvane from 1995-2001, he served as principal of Mulvane Grade School. He attended WSU again to further his education, and in 2001 accepted the job as superintendent of the Leroy-Gridley School District, serving in this position until moving to Great Bend in 2003. His current job was Director of Business for the Great Bend Schools. Patrick was active in the noon Kiwanis of Great Bend and the Kansas Association of School Business Officials, KASBO and United School Administrators. He loved to travel, play golf and ride his motorcycle. Survivors include his wife Nancy and daughter Kristin, both of the home; brothers Michael Kelley of Wichita, Ronald Kelley of Jewell and Robert Kelley and wife Erin of Texarkana, Texas; sister Lori Fike and husband Kevin of Russellville, Ark.; sisters-in-law Peggy Massoth and husband Glen, and Mary Weber and husband Leon, both of Yates Center. He is also survived by his Aunt Lois Leydig and her husband Dale of St. Francis; 13 nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Samuel V. Kelley, in 1995. Celebration of Patrick's life will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Shawn Winters officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. KINGFISHER, Okla. - Hazel Marie Davis died March 2, after a long illness. She was born Oct. 25, 1931, at Dighton, the daughter of Fred and Ardath Crandell. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1949. She married
Charles M. Davis on May 29, 1949. They lived in Great Bend until October 1949, when they moved to Kingfisher, Okla. Mrs. Davis was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Kingfisher, and also a member of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Altrua Club and Book Review Club. She was also an Order of Rainbow for Girls Mother Advisor and was honored with the Grand Cross of Color. Survivors include her husband, of the home; three daughters, Darcel Defibaugh of Yukon, Okla., Susan Larsen of Kingfisher and Catherine Musick of Dover, Okla.; her mother, Ardath Crandell of Big Sandy, Texas; one brother, Fred W. Crandell Jr. of Benton; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis (Billie Lou); and one granddaughter, Juniper. Memorials are suggested to the church in Kingfisher.

LARNED - Ethel E. Fox, 85, died March 31 at Good Samaritan Retirement Village, Ellsworth. She was born March 18, 1920, the daughter of Clarence and Ethel Smith Hamsher. She married
Marlow Jene Fox at Parsons on May 11, 1941. He died March 15, 1969. Prior to a car accident in March of 1969, she was a social worker for the Pawnee County Welfare Department. She has been a resident of Good Samaritan Retirement Village since March 1980. She was a graduate of Parsons High School and Parsons Junior College. Fox was a past member of Eden Valley Church of the Brethren at St. John. Survivors include two sons, Philip Fox and his wife Connie of Mays Landing, N.J., and Ron Fox and his wife Umai, Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters, Linda Vine and her husband Ken, Plainville, and Neysa Brown and her husband Jim, Holyrood; three brothers, Eugene Hamsher of Parsons, Robert Hamsher of Flint, Mich., and Bill Hamsher of Altamont; one sister, Wilma Correll, Olathe; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, John and Carl Hamsher and two infant brothers, and four sisters, Leona Ferguson, Florence McDill, Irene Kaido and Frances Thomas. A memorial graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Larned cemetery, Larned, with the Rev. Debra Rains presiding. Friends may sign a register from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Cremation was requested.
