HOISINGTON - Mildred Caroline Strecker McFall Neeley, 81, died March 27 at Central Kansas Medical Center. She was born Oct. 22, 1922 at Russell, the daughter of Henry C. and Caroline O. '˜Keil' Strecker. She was a 1940 graduate of Hoisington High School and attended Fort Hays State University. A resident of Hoisington, coming from Denver, Colo., she taught school at District 66 in Galatia for two years, worked at the Air Force Base in Great Bend, was a nurses aid at St. Rose Hospital, worked in the civil service in Colorado and later became a telephone operator for Mountain Bell and Oregon Teleco until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Great Bend. Survivors include three sons, Mark G. McFall of Riverside, Calif., Miles McFall of Seattle, Wash., and Nathanael J. Neeley of Tyler, Texas; one brother, Paul H. Strecker of Galatia; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter; and two step-grandsons. She was preceded by an infant sister, Esther Irene Strecker. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia with the Rev. James A. Strasen officiating. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery in Galatia. There is no visitation. Susan G. Curtis
1932-2004
Susan G. Curtis, 71, of Great Bend, died March 28 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born May 6, 1932, at Howard County, the daughter of McKean and Ruth Lord Carter. She married Larry Curtis April 23, 1955, at Tucumcari, N.M. He died Jan. 1, 2001. A resident of Great Bend for 42 years, coming from Stafford she was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, Steven Curtis of Great Bend and David Curtis of Port Arthur, Texas; one brother, Bill Carter of Hays; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, William Carter and one daughter, Peggy Fischer. Memorial service and inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Peace Church cemetery in Hudson with the Rev. Al Hatten officiating. Memorials are suggested to Susan G. Curtis Memorial Fund in care of Charter Funerals in Great Bend. Robert Jackson Bennett
1922-2004
MOLINE - Robert Jackson Bennett, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, at the Elk Manor Nursing Home in Moline. He was 81 years of age and a long time resident of the Moline community. Bob, as he was known, was born on Aug. 8, 1922, at Pleasant View, Tenn., to Willy Ed and Pauline Mae Sanders Bennett. He attended school in Tennessee until entering the United Stated Navy Jan. 19, 1942, and served in the Pacific theatre during World War II. On June 26, 1944, he married Isabelle Arlene Ward at Ardmore, Okla., and to this union was born one son and three daughters. After being discharged from the Navy in 1947, Bob began working as an auto body mechanic for the Gardner Body Shop at Moline. In 1962, he became a partner in the BennettGardner Body Shop and later became the sole owner of the business. Bob retired from the Bennett Body Shop in the mid-1980's. He was a long time member of the Moline United Methodist Church and is a 50 year member of the American Legion FergusonSpease Post 388, Hope Masonic Lodge 155 and Ladonia Chapter 243 Order of the Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife, Isbelle; one son, Robert Jr. of Howard; daughters, Sherry Kill of Moline and Rebecca Thetford of Great Bend; one brother, Wesley of Mount Hope; one sister, Alma Jones of Ashland City, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria; two great-grandchildren; his parents; one brother and one sister. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m.Wednesday at Moline United Methodist Church with the Revs. Gary Parsons and Gary Boles officiating. Cremation has taken place. Military and Masonic graveside services will be at Moline cemetery in Moline. Marie Margaret Appel

Marie Margaret Appel, 89, of Great Bend, died March 25 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. She was born March 26, 1914, in Pawnee County, the daughter of Herman and Sena Folkerts Behrens. She married David Appel May 10, 1933, at Albert. He died April 27, 1971. A resident of Great Bend since 1972, coming from Pawnee Rock, she worked for Montgomery-Ward for 20 years and was a real estate agent for Keller Real Estate for 20 years, retiring in 1991. Mrs. Appel was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Albert. Survivors include one son, Don C. Appel of Great Bend; one sister, Janet Rankin of Great Bend; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Behrens; and two sisters, Fern Schultz and Edna Appel. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Jack D. Russell officiating. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran cemetery in Albert. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Homer Ray Dirks
1933-2004
PAWNEE ROCK - Homer Ray Dirks, 70, died March 25 at him home. He was born Sept. 10, 1933, at rural Dundee, the son of Harvey and Ella Schultz Dirks. He married Patricia 'Pat' Ann Hoffman Oct. 19, 1957, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. A lifetime Barton and Pawnee County resident, he was the owner of Dirks Dirt Construction and was a farmer and stockman. Dirks was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of rural Albert, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school secretary/treasurer, all church council positions including president. He was also on the board of directors at Pawnee Rock Farmer's Grain Fuel and Livestock Co. He was baptized May 25, 1947, at Bergthal Mennonite Church, rural Pawnee Rock, and was confirmed Aug. 12, 1962, at Peace Lutheran Church, Albert. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Dale Dean Dirks of Albert; two daughters, Darla Rae Clarke and husband Clint of Great Bend, and Danine Fay Martinez of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; his mother Ella Dirks of Great Bend; one sister, Beverly Ann Prescott and husband Keith of Larned; six grandchildren, Ashley Dirks, Taree Dougherty and husband Stacy, Abby Dirks, Kyle Clarke, Jenna Clarke and Conner Martinez and many nieces and nephews. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Jack D. Russell officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today, with family receiving friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today, all at the funeral home. GARDEN CITY - Otillia Kreutzer Dater, 99, died March 25 at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City. She was born April 1, 1904, at Liebenthal, the daughter of Joe and Anna Werth Kreutzer. She married August Dater April 30, 1929, at Antonino. He died Feb. 5, 1980. A resident of Garden City since 1939, coming from Antonino, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Dater was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and charter member of Daughters of Isabella, both of Garden City. Survivors include two sons, Silverius 'Silver' Dater of Lenexa and Edwin Dater of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three daughters, Sister Mary Ellen Dater of Great Bend, Rose Ann Lawrence of Silver Springs, Md., and Leona Dater Powell of Spokane, Wash.; two sisters, Clementine Brungardt of Wichita and Ludwina Horning of Garden City; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Esther Dater and Theresa Taylor; two brothers, Fred Kreutzer and Isadore Kreutzer; and five sisters, Marie Kreutzer, Verna Johnson, Sister Clementine Kreutzer, Lenora Sauer and Rosa Kreutzer; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter. Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 4 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be at Valley View cemetery in Garden City. HAYS - Henry P. 'Hank' Rupp, 78, died March 27 at Hays Good Samaritan Center. He was born Jan. 28, 1926, at Ellis County, the son of Andrew and Adelaide Rupp. He married Sally Brungardt Feb. 5, 1982, at Hays. He was a truck pusher for 4-Way Trucking and R.C. Williams. Rupp was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home. three daughters, Jessica Rupp of the home; Katrina McCormick of Springfield, Mo., and Jackie Johnson of Kansas City; two brothers, Mike Rupp and Marvin Rupp, both of Hays; one sister, Blanche VonLintel of Hays; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Brad Rupp; and two brothers, Fred Rupp and infant Harlow Rupp. Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Brock's North Hill Chapel in Hays. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at St. Joseph's cemetery in Hays with graveside military honors by Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars. CLAFLIN - Georgia J. Squires, 89, died March 24 at Liberty Terrace Care Center in Liberty, Mo. She was born March 3, 1915, at Holyrood, the daughter of Joseph and Marie Stejskal Dressler. She married Don Squires Jan. 16, 1941, at Great Bend. He died Jan. 16, 1964. A lifetime resident of Claflin, she was a homemaker and worked in the Claflin Schools lunch program. Mrs. Squires was a member of United Methodist Church of Claflin and a lifetime member of Order of the Eastern Star of Holyrood Chapter 420. Survivors include one son, Joe Buehler and wife, Darlene of Kansas City, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Harlan D. Buehler; an infant son, Marlin Buehler; one brother, Ernest Dressler; and two sisters, Lena Eggers and Agnes Jordon. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the Rev. Janet Myers officiating. Burial will be at Claflin cemetery followed by Order of Eastern Star Service. She married Gail Manley March 16, 1968, at Hoisington. A lifetime resident of Hoisington, she was a sales associate for J.C. Penney in Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Sean D. Manley of Ellinwood and Nathan B. Manley of Hoisington; one daughter, Christina I. Manley of Hoisington; her mother Victoria Miller of Hoisington; four brothers, Curtis D. Miller of Pagosa Springs, Colo., Denny J. Miller of Hoisington, Warren D. Miller of Derby and Steven C. Miller of Blue Springs, Mo.; four sisters, Martha A. McCarty of Ellinwood; Claudine F. Vanley of Napa Valley, Calif., Sharron L. Lane and Bobbie Shannon, both of Salina; and six grandchildren, Audrie R. Davis, Troy D. Davis Jr., Alec F. Manley, Victoria M. Manley, Laurene E. Manley and Dominic B. Manley. She was preceded in death by on brother, Leslie Roger Miller. Remembrance service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at House of Faith Church in Hoisington with the Rev. Albert Hattan officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington cemetery. WOODWARD, Okla. - Irene Green, 76, died March 22 at Advance Care Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was born Feb. 15, 1928, at Beaver, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Demel Courange. She married Carl Clark Green May 12, 1945, at Great Bend. He preceded her in death. A resident of Woodward since 1968, she was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, Kenneth Green of Norman, Okla.; five brothers, Clarence Courange of Laverne, Okla., Joe Courange of Canadian, Texas, Irvin Courange of Traer, Jim Courange of Hoisington and Eugene Courange of Pratt; seven sisters, Mary Ann Ash of Canadian, Theresa Hall of Kansas City, Victoria Hubbard of Vernal, Utah, Kay Munoz, Helen Klein, Norma Seyfert and Joann Torrez, all of Hoisington; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vick Courange and Paul Courange; and one sister, Marge Cooper. Graveside service was held Thursday at Elmwood cemetery in Woodward, with the Rev. NESS CITY - Monica Sue Seib, 40, died March 23 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was born April 22, 1963, in Ness City, the daughter of Jerry and Shirley Swatzell Schuler. She married Myron Seib May 12, 1984, in Ness City. A resident of Ness City, she was a program technician for U.S. Department of Agriculture. Mrs. Seib was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society and Ness City Booster Club, all of Ness City. Survivors include her husband of the home; three daughters, Danielle Seib, Ashleigh Seib and Allison Seib, all of the home; her parents of Ness City; one sister, Cheryl Lunsford of Hays; and her grandmother, Susie Curtis of Ness City. Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. today at the church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Revs. Gregory LeBlanc and Joseph Barr officiating.
