LARNED - Cecil Boman, 88, died March 15 at his residence in Larned. He was born Nov. 29, 1915, at Zenith, the son of Shelva and Alta Marie Wheatley Boman. He married Dorothy Lee Wallace July 25, 1948, at Harrison, Ark. She died March 13, 2003. A resident of Larned since 1966, coming from Lamar, Mo., he worked in road construction for Broce and Smith. Boman was of the Protestant faith. Survivors include four sons, Darrell Baucker of Arma, Danny Boman, Duane Boman and Glen Boman, all of Larned; two daughters, Barbara Edwards of Pawnee Rock and Margie Gonzalez of Great Bend; one brother, Charles Boman of Lamar; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Chet Boman and Clifford Boman. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. Don Paden officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Howell cemetery in Milford, Mo. with the Rev. Cliff Hazard officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m to 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until Thursday, all at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the American Legion of Larned. Verna Milta Schneider
1921-2004
OSAGE BEACH, Mo., - Verna Milta Schneider, daughter of John and Mary Brack, was born April 4, 1921, in Otis. She departed this life Saturday, March 13, at Osage Beach Health Care Center in Osage Beach, Mo., at the age of 82 years, 11 months and nine days. On May 7, 1939, she was united in marriage to Alex Schneider, and to this union two daughters and one son were born. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alex in April of 1987, two brothers and one sister. Verna is survived by two daughters, Peggy Koehn of Gravois Mills, Mo., and Alexis Nichols and her husband, Terry, of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; one son, Steve Schneider and his wife, Jeanne, of Kingwood, Texas; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; a sister, Martha Margheim of Hoisington; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Otis area. After she and Alex were married , they made their home in the Otis community and lovingly raised their children. Throughout the years, Verna was a devoted and hardworking homemaker to her family. Verna was a longtime active member of the Otis Trinity Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir, and was active in the Eunice Circle ladies group. In her spare time, she liked sewing, playing cards, dancing and bowling. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Verna was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for us. Funeral services for Mrs. Verna M. Schneider are at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Otis with the Rev. Bruce Adamson officiating. Burial will follow in the Otis Lutheran cemetery. Keith Brack, Eudale Brack, Kenneth Brack, Roger Brack, Harry Schneider, Bob DeWald, Doran Margheim and Larry Don Schneider will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is Friday at noon until time of service in the church. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Mo. Ruth I. Onions
1914-2004
LIBERAL - Ruth I. Onions died March 16 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal. She as born Sept. 23, 1914, at Comanche, Texas, the daughter of Joe Willis and Hattie B. Owen Carter. She has been a resident of Liberal since 1946, moving from Dublin, Texas. She was a bookkeeper for Pittman Elevator, Pennington Electric and Circle K Auto Shop. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Liberal Pancake Campers Club and Prestige Club. She enjoyed square dancing with her husband Bill until about 10 years ago and then enjoyed traveling in their recreational vehicle. On Jan. 16, 1932, she married Merle Williams. She later married Charles Harris in 1956. He preceded her in death in May 1971. On Sept. 16, 1973, she married John W. 'Bill' Onions in Liberal. He survives. Other survivors include one son, Ken Williams and wife Nancy of Great Bend; two step-sons, Mike Onions and wife Cindy of Durango, Colo., and Dick Onions and his wife Barbara of Lubbock, Texas; two step-daughters, Jetta Headrick and husband Marvin of Turpin, Okla., and Michelle Tombs and husband Michael of Lubbock, Texas; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; and six step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, George Carter, and one sister, Willie Mae Sanders. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church of Liberal with the Rev. Steve Saville officiating. Burial will be at Liberal cemetery. Calling time will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal. Theresa Henrietta Armbruster
1915-2004
ELLIS - Theresa Henrietta Schaus Armbruster, 88, died March 13 at Albert. She was born May 29, 1915, at rural Ellis, the daughter of Joseph Aust and Barbara Fries Schaus. She married John Armbruster Jr. May 14, 1936, at Ellis. He died Aug. 26, 1984. A resident of Ellis County most of her life, she was a school teacher and Sunday School teacher, a cook at Cottonwood Grove School and Good Samaritan Home, and a homemaker. Mrs. Armbruster was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Ellis and a member of the St. John's ladies organization. Survivors include three sons, John J. Armbruster and his wife, Diane, of Albert, Greg Armbruster and his wife, René of Topeka, and Stan Armbruster and his wife, Patti of Leawood; one daughter, Barbara Reece and her husband, Clyde of Burdett; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marlene Wasinger and Margaret King. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at the church with the Revs. Mitch Reece and Tim Rahn officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Ray Bill Engleman
1926-2004
WICHITA - Ray Bill Engleman, 77, died March 12. He was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Great Bend, the son of Everest and Alice Roberson Engleman. He married Gladys Marie Ringering. A resident of Wichita since 1980, coming from Great Bend, he was a retired construction worker and a farmer. Engleman was of the Protestant faith. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Randall Engleman of Lake City, Fla., and Dana Engleman of Manhattan; one daughter, Rhonda Tiedman of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Jim Engleman of Great Bend; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. William Charles Pike

ALBERT - William Charles Pike, 65, died March 14. He is survived by a daughter, Lisa B. Russell and son-in-law, the Rev. Jack B. Russell. Funeral services will be held at Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton, Va. In lieu of memorials, it is suggested to practice a random act of kindness. N. Aline Austin Schmitt
1918-2004
N. Aline Austin Schmitt, 85, died March 12 at her residence in Great Bend. She was born Aug. 4, 1918 at Cottonwood Falls, the daughter of Fred J. and Nora Ward Austin. She married Verne G. Schmitt on June 20, 1942 at Glendale, Calif. He died Aug. 21, 1999. She worked at McDonnel-Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, Calif. from 1942-1946, she returned to Kansas where she taught for 25 years in Pawnee Rock and Great Bend High Schools and at Barton County Community College. After retiring from teaching she worked at Turner and Boisseau Law Firm for 10 years. She was a Great Bend resident since 1953, coming from Pawnee Rock. Mrs. Schmitt received her Bachelor of Science in business education and Life Teaching Certificate from Emporia State Teachers College and her Master's Degree from Fort Hays State University. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Spiritual Life Sunday School Personal Association, Birthday Club, AARP, a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary having served as unit president and Seventh District president, all of Great Bend, and of Chapeau of 8/40 Reno Salon 197, Hutchinson. She volunteered for RSVP, Interfaith and the church. Survivors include two sons, Verne Lynn Schmitt of Hays, and Robert Wayne Schmitt of Mission; one brother, Fred Austin Jr., of Topeka; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Austin; and one sister, Lorene Scott. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church with Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Pawnee Rock cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home. Garman L. Breitenbach
1932-2004
BELPRE - Garman L. Breitenbach, 71, died March 12 at his residence in rural Belpre. He was born June 27, 1932 at Belpre, the son of Frank L. and Elva Fisher Breitenbach. He married Patsy Ruth Wilson June 12, 1954 at Hutchinson. She died July 11, 2001. A lifetime resident of rural Belpre, he was a retired farmer. Breitenbach was of the Christian faith and was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include three sons, Marjain Breitenbach, of Kansas City, Kan., Michael Breitenbach, of Shawnee Mission, and Charles Breitenbach, of Basehor; two daughters, Cheryl Hulsey, of Hutchinson, and Gayle Berrios, of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Ellen Jones, of Cary, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Matthew Hulsey. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Larned, with Rev. Bill Stapelton officiating. Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Burial will be at Belpre cemetery. 1923-2004
Dorothy C. Mueller, 80, died March 13 at Central Kansas Medical Center. She was born Sept. 18, 1923, at St. Leo, the daughter of A. J. and Elizabeth Schommer Schwager. She married Wendell Mueller, July 24, 1959, at Great Bend. He died Nov. 20, 1987. A resident of Great Bend most of her life, she worked for Greens, Gunns and Howards clothing stores. Mrs. Mueller was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Survivors include one sister, Vernelia Williams, of Great Bend; one sister-in-law, Luella Schwager, of Great Bend; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Sylvester Schwager, George Schwager and Gerald Schwager. Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church with Rev. Ted Stoecklein officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Holy Family School Endowment Fund. A. L. (Linc) Branson
1920-2004
LYONS - A. L. (Linc) Branson, 83, died March 12, at Hutchinson. He was born Sept. 3, 1920, at Burden, the son of De and Alice Young Branson. He married Arleen Wesseler of Bushton on July 31, 1947 at Lyons. A long time Lyons resident, he was owner and operator of Branson Truck Line, Inc. in Lyons for 25 years and worked for City Service Gas and Graves/ANR Freight. Branson was a member of Lyons United Methodist Church, serving on several committees; a 50 year member of Queen Esther Chapter 32 Order of the Eastern Star; of Royal Lodge 192; of Isis Temple; of Scottish Rite; York Rite; International Association Legions of Honor, all of Salina; of York Rite of Ellsworth; Veterans of Foreign Wars; served on the Kansas Board of American Trucking Association; was a member of Kansas Motor Carriers Association; served on the board of directors of Chase State Bank; of Lyons Chamber of Commerce; and was mayor of Lyons, 1973-1974. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, Donald and Carol Branson, of Prairie Village; three daughters, LaVonda Branson, of Kansas City, Kan., Gaila and Daryle Nielsen, of Ellinwood, and Nancy and J. Morgan Lester, of Melbourne, Fla.; one brother, Robert 'Bob' and Benji Branson, of Abita Springs, La.; one sister, Mary Alice Garrison, of Lincoln; eight grandchildren, Deborah and Neal Nerich, of Decator, Ill., Steven Branson, of Prairie Village, Shawn and Cheryl Nielsen, of Ellinwood, Shelly and Matt Ward, of Kansas City, Mo., Andrew Coryer, of Lake Isabella, Calif., Melissa Coryer, of Dunedin, New Zealand, August Lester, of Melborne, Fla., and Noelle and Piper Lester, of Boise, Idaho; three great grandchildren, Shane Odell, of Decator, Ill., Neysa Nerich, of Decator, Ill., and Micah Ward, of Kansas City, Mo.; and one great-great grandchild, Chance Odell, of Decator, Ill. He was preceded in death by two sons, Terry Dee Branson and Billy Joe Branson, and by one daughter, Pamela Sue Branson. Funeral will be at 2. p.m. Wednesday at the church with Rev. Cindy Watson officiating. The body was donated to KU Medical Center for education and research. LINDSBORG - Emeline Brunsell, 84, died March 9. She was born May 20, 1919, in rural Lindsborg, the daughter of P. Emil and Ellen Bengston Rosander. She married James William Brunsell Sept. 20, 1937, at Hutchinson. He died March 3, 1988. A lifetime resident of Lindsborg, she was a homemaker and a farmer's wife. Survivors include one son, Keith Brunsell of Lindsborg; one daughter, Jane Brunsell of Lindsborg; one sister, Frances Bruns of Great Bend; three grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Sjostrom; and two sisters, Helen Rosander Bailey and Annette Sjostrom Danielson. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg. Burial will be at Smoky Hill cemetery in Lindsborg.
