LARNED - Martha Elizabeth Earegood, 78, died March 9 at Larned Healthcare Center in Larned. She was born Jan. 8, 1926, at Clinton, Mo., the daughter of William McKinley and Beatrice Edde Jenkins. A resident of Larned since 1951, she was a retired licensed mental health technician at Larned State Hospital. She was a member of the Christian faith. Survivors include four sons, Dean of Larned, Donald of Great Bend, David of Camdenton, Mo., and Gerald of Elk Grove, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Jo Sullivan; and one grandson, Christopher Earegood. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned with the Rev. PRATT - Nina V. Helsel, 85, died March 10 at Pratt Regional Medical Center. She was born July 8, 1918, at Douglas, the daughter of Orley Lee and Daisy Daniels Brown. She married
Don E. Helsel April 6, 1942, at Cherokee, Okla. He died in August 1987. She was a retired employee of Dillons. Mrs. Helsel was a member of Free Methodist Church of Pratt. Survivors include two stepsons, Dale Helsel of Great Bend and Darrel Helsel of Pratt; two stepdaughters, Fontella Cook of Pratt and Twiella Daugherty of Fortuna, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Visser. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Larrison Mortuary in Pratt with the Rev. Harold Wilcox officiating. Burial will be at Iuka cemetery. SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Lois Frances Kohler, 84, died March 7 at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, Calif. She was born April 30, 1919, at Ellinwood, the daughter of Fred and Frances Demel Kohler. She was a 1936 graduate of Ellinwood High School and later graduated from Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia. A longtime resident of San Diego, coming from Inman, Hutchinson and Ellinwood, she was a teacher at Inman High School for two years, secretary to the director of ground school operations from Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Company in Hutchinson Naval Air Station and an employee of city of San Diego in various departments for 46 years. The last eight years she was executive secretary to the director of Park and Recreation Department, until her retirement in 1993. Survivors include one sister, Norma Louise Kohler of San Diego. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kimple Funeral Chapel in Ellinwood with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Commanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. CLAFLIN - Bernard J. Krier, 81, died March 10 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. He was born July 13, 1922, in rural Barton County, the son of William and Clara Hoffman Krier. He married
Marilyn Straub Sept. 28, 1948, at St. Peter and Paul Church, north of Ellinwood. She died Dec. 16, 1989. A lifetime resident of Claflin, he was a retired farmer and stockman. Krier was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1500 and lifetime member of Ralph B. Praeger Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8668, all of Claflin. He was also a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Great Bend and Kansas Farm Management Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in the 11th Armored Division and served in the Battle of the Bulge. Survivors include Roger Krier of Great Bend, Bryan Krier of Wichita, Kirby Krier and Perry Krier, both of Claflin; two sisters, Margaret Zecha of Great Bend and Catherine Seyfert of Hunter; and 15 grandchildren. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, both at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Cecil F. McBee Dec. 7, 1935, at Dodge City. He died July 14, 1994. A resident of St. John since February 2002, coming from Englewood, Colo., and Larned, she was a retired registered nurse, working at Larned State Hospital and Gleason Hospital, both of Larned, and St. Anthony Hospital of Dodge City. Mrs. McBee was a member of First Baptist Church of Englewood. Survivors include one son, Erin Ross McBee of Larned; two daughters, Allison Gross of St. John and Cecilia Green of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Anna Rose Younger of Scottsville, Ky.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Earl R. Kirkpatrick June 18, 1938, at Larned. He died June 20, 1980. A resident of Appleton for the past 63 years, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was a member of the Christian faith, an Appleton Medical Center Auxiliary volunteer, Fox Valley Homemakers Association and Thompson Community Center in Appleton. Survivors include two daughters, Karen Fadner of Stevens Point, Wis., and Betty Barker of Appleton; one brother, Amil Hanson of Great Bend; one sister, Frieda Still of Great Bend; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A resident of Great Bend since 1987, coming from Honolulu, she was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, Nicholas Ray Wornkey of Great Bend; one daughter, Heaven Marie Wornkey of Great Bend; her father of Great Bend; her mother, Alleda J. Hoilien of Great Bend; her stepfather, Alan Hoilien of Great Bend; one brother, Kimo Martinez of Great Bend; one stepbrother, Curtis Hoilien of Great Bend; four sisters, Jewel Juarez, Maylene Fernandez-Lewis and Lehua Martinez, all of Great Bend, and Shawnte Morris of Honolulu; one stepsister, Rosenna Hoilien of Red Oak, Iowa; her grandfather, Edmund Martinez of Great Bend; and her great-grandmother, Francis Cilek of Hutchinson. Clark was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Allan Dean Clark of Desoto and Michael Dee Clark of Great Bend; one daughter, Debra Kay Pedigo of Port Allen, La.; one stepson, Billy E. Hamm of Shawnee; one stepdaughter, Walinda J. Hamm of Federal Heights, Colo.; one brother, Benny Clark of Desoto; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Virginia Marie Evans Jan. 24, 1939, at Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 1936, coming from Henrietta, Okla., he worked in the oil fields rig building and unit setting and worked with Lindholm Construction and Windsor Door until retiring in 1985. Walters was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Great Bend, Apache Chapter of Kansas Anthropology Society and Kansas State Historical Society. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Cleat Walters Jr. of Reidsville, N.C., and Donald L. Walters of Monterey, Calif.; two daughters, Carol Ann Vieyra of Littleton, Colo., and Diana Marie Walters of Pueblo, Colo.; two sisters, Betty Clark Keenan of Great Bend and Margaret Redmon of Richardson, Texas; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
