LARNED - Calvin Foss, 69, died Feb. 9 at Hodgeman County Health Center in Jetmore. He was born March 25, 1933, at Las Vegas, the son of Marion and Elsie Atwater Foss. He married
Lois Mae Davis on Nov. 2, 1965, at Larned. A lifetime resident of Larned, he worked for Larned State Hospital and the city of Larned. Foss was a member of the Protestant faith. Survivors include his wife of the home; two stepsons, Harold Dwayne Basler of Kingston, Tenn., and Donald Eugene Basler; one sister, Lois Brotler of Larned; and three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Loren Foss. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Garfield cemetery with the Rev. Ron Day officiating. Bernard E. Bartlett 1929-2003
STAFFORD - Bernard E. Bartlett, 73, died Feb. 10 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Sept. 4, 1929, at rural Stafford, the son of Cecil E. and Leona Nelson Bartlett. He was a graduate of Stafford High School. He married
Barbara Irvin on July 23, 1950, at Stafford. A lifetime Stafford resident, he was a cabinet maker and a building contractor. Bartlett was a member of Order of the Arrow, Stafford Troop Committee, Stafford Saddle Club, First Christian Church of Stafford, a Boy Scout leader, past Sunday School teacher, Sunday school superintendent, church elder and deacon, past president of Stafford Jaycees, and co-chair of Stafford Centennial committee. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Troy Bartlett of Stafford; two daughters, Denise Podschun of Overland Park and Melea Fredrick of Pratt; two sisters, Bonnie Robinson of Winfield and Toniette Blackburn of Brea, Calif.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Yozelle Newell; and one grandson, G.T. Crockett. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Karen Ault officiating. RUSSELL - Leon A. Keil, 71, died Feb. 9 at Russell Regional Hospital. He was born Dec. 12, 1931, in Russell County, the son of Alexander and Ella F. Deines Keil. He married
Carol Joan Keil on Aug. 14, 1955, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Russell. A longtime resident of Russell, he worked for Carter Block Plant, Tip Top Dairy, Electrolux Company, was a distributor and route person for Prestige Coffee Company of Wichita, serving the Russell and Great Bend areas, and a part-time employee of Fossil Station in Russell. Keil was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars 6240, American Legion Post 99 and Russell Regional Hospital Auxiliary, all of Russell. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War from 1951- 1954. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Bradley L. Keil of Wichita; one brother, Darrell Lee Keil of Great Bend; and one sister, Velda Nuss of Russell. He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Keil. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Henry Hartman officiating. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran cemetery in Russell. STAFFORD - Alfred E. Guthrie Jr., 78, died Feb. 8 at Hutchinson Hospital. He was born Dec. 30, 1924, at Preston, the son of Alfred E. Sr. and Lucretia Long Guthrie. He was a 1942 graduate of Preston High School. He married
Bonnie Merkle on Nov. 24, 1943, at Wichita. A Stafford resident since 1946, he was co-owner of Click Electric and associated with the business for 41 years. Guthrie was a member of First United Methodist Church of Stafford, a 50-year member of Stafford American Legion Post 131, Stafford Lions Club, Stafford County Country Club and an active volunteer for Stafford Senior Center, Ritz Theatre and Christmas Wonderland. He was an U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Philip Guthrie of Manhattan; one daughter, Kay Kinnamon of St. John; three brothers, Buck Guthrie of Violet Hill, Ark., Don Guthrie of Salem, Ark., and Bill Guthrie of Preston; one sister, Betty Toney of Preston; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. HAYS - Sofia Restrepo Bennett, 90, died Feb. 6. She was born Feb. 12, 1912, at Medellin, Antioquia, Columbia, South America, the daughter of Antonino Restrepo and Ilisa Restrepo de Fernandez. She married
George Worden Peter Bennett Sr. He preceded her in death. A resident of Hays, she was a volunteer Spanish interpreter, a seamstress for Master Cleaners for nine years, and worked for Worden Petroleum for nine years. Mrs. Bennett was a member of Daughters of Isabella Circle 254, Altar Society of Christian Mothers, and Hays Medical Auxiliary and a former Girl Scout leader. Survivors include two sons, Cranford Ridell Bennett of Wichita and James Richard Bennett of Great Bend; five daughters, Nancy Joan Larson of Overland Park, Mary Patricia Twyman of Sunset Beach, Calif., Joyce Cecelia Songer of Salina, Judy Christina Ambler of Olathe and Jane Theresa Ault of Hays; 24 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, George Worden Bennett Jr.; one brother, Antonino Jose Restrepo; and three sisters, Celsa Julia, Ernestina and Maria. Loren W. Everhart Sept. 14, 1952, at Salina. He died Oct. 20, 1992. A longtime resident of Salina, she was office manager for Royal Tire Company in Salina, retiring in 1981 Mrs. Everhart was a member of Lady Elks Lodge 718, National Association of Federal Employees, AARP and a volunteer at Kenwood Nursing Center. Robert Shauers on Jan. 14, 1947, at Ness City. They were divorced. She married
Ted Tynsky December 1971 in Rock Springs. They were divorced. A resident of Rock Springs, she was a volunteer for the fire department and ambulance as an Emergency Medical Technician. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include three sons, Michael Shauers and Andy Shauers, both of Rock Springs, and Dean Shauers of Parker, Colo.; one daughter, Linda Stevens of Driggs, Idaho; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother Jack Whitis; and stepfather L.L. Shultz. Funeral service was Saturday at Fox Funeral Home in Rock Springs with the Rev. Sue Pierce officiating. BISON - Mario 'Pat' Peroli, 83, died Feb. 7 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina. He was born June 1, 1919, at Waterman, Penn., the son of Joseph and Maria Pesci Peroli. He married
Elsie Elder on Aug. 6, 1945, at Bison. A 57 year resident of Rush County, he was a farmer and retired maintenance engineer for USD 403, as well as owning a plumbing and electrical business for many years. Peroli was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and a volunteer fireman. He was U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific Theater. Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters, Patricia Urban of Middlesex, N.J., Jeanette Peroli Eklund of Salina, Carolyn Purdue of St. Joseph, Mo., and Sherri Commons of Fort Riley; one brother, Anthony Peroli of Tearing Run, Penn.; one sister, Jenny Stella of Lucisboro, Penn.; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Peroli; and four sisters, Josephina Albertelli, Louisa Sasala, Lena Strini and Lena Peroli. A resident of Tulsa, coming from Lawrence, he was employed in script editing and telecommunications for CBS Television, and was a writer and musician. Fall was a U.S. Navy veteran. Walter L. Munden, 61, of Great Bend died Feb. 4 at his residence. He was born Nov. 22, 1941, at Byers the son of Albert W. and Myrtle M. Munden. He was a 1959 graduate of Stafford High School. A resident of Great Bend since 1981, coming from Ellinwood, he was a court security officer for Barton County and former Barton County Sherriff officer. Munden was a member of Eagles Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Great Bend. Survivors include his companion, Dee Hapes of Great Bend; two sons, Robert Munden of Larned and Troy Munden of Kansas City; one sister, Virginia R. Keesling of Abeline; and three grandchildren.
