OVERLAND PARK - Donald N. Schauf, 77, died Jan. 30 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. He was born July 4, 1925, at Dubuque, the son of Nicholas and Gertrude Thill Schauf. A resident of Overland Park, he worked for Corps of Engineers for 32 years, retiring in 1988. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Schauf; one son, Mickey Schauf; two daughters, Melinda Blansit and Sheila Davila; and four grandsons. Rosary will be at 5:30 p.m. today at McGilley and Hoge Chapel in Overland Park. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Church of the Holy Cross in Overland Park. Eddie Drake 1942-2003
Eddie Drake, 60 of Great Bend, died Jan. 31 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Aug. 18, 1942, at Ellsworth, the son of Charles E. and Juanita Baughman Drake. He married
Judith A. Robinson on Feb. 16, 2002, in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend for two-and-a-half years, coming from Overton, Texas, he was a truck driver for Swift Transportation of Harrisonville, Mo. Drake was a member of the First Christian Church of Great Bend, the Christian Motorcycle Association and was a certified alcohol and drug abuse counselor. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Carl E. Drake Jr. of Keller, Texas, and Jason E. Drake of Harrisonville, Mo.; four daughters, Nita Drake of Russell, Dottie Thomson of Marysville, Wash. and Shelly Mallow and Denice Seely, both of Wichita; one sister, Barbara Ritter of Great Bend; and 27 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Drake Jr. and Jim Drake. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Hoisington cemetery, with military graveside rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7428 and American Legion Post 286. OTIS - James 'Jim' A. McAnulla, 56 of Otis and Great Bend, died Jan. 30 at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. He was born Oct. 24, 1946 at Parsons, the son of Anthony Peter and Margeritte Adel Doonan McAnulla. He married
Carol Sue Schrimsher on Jan. 7, 1968 in Dixon, Mo. A resident of Otis, he was an over the road truck driver for BOC Gases of Otis. McAnulla was a member of the Crossroads Community Church of Hoisington and served in the military. His hobbies included fishing. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Susan D. and husband Matt Elliott of Otis; two sons, James A. Jr. and wife Mary Jean McAnulla of T'aipei, Taiwan, and Patrick D. and wife Denise M. McAnulla of Larned. his mother of Great Bend; three brothers, Mike and wife Marie McAnulla, Steve and wife Debie McAnulla, Don McAnulla and Roger and wife Rhonda McAnulla; one sister, Jane and husband Ed Youngers; two foster children, Mary JoAnn and husband Budd Mull and Beverly M. and husband Nicholas Witt; and eight grandchildren. Isabel 'Belle' Dorothy Lounsbury Boucher, 73, of Great Bend, died March 28 at Select Specialty Hospital in Wichita. She was born June 14, 1929, at Loretta, the daughter of John J. and Margaret Dinkel Stegman. She married
James Phillip Lounsbury April 14, 1951, at Emporia. He died June 28, 1975. She married
Alpha 'Jake' Boucher Nov. 10, 1984, at Great Bend. He died Nov. 2, 1985. A resident of Great Bend since 1959, coming from Eaton, Colo., she was a homemaker and worked for the custodial department at Harrison Junior High, retiring in 1985. Mrs. Boucher was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, St. Rose Altar Society, Senior Friends, all of Great Bend, and AARP. Survivors include two brothers, Hubert Stegman of Scappoose, Ore., and Norbert Stegman of Great Bend; and two sisters, Leona Krmela of Great Bend and Lydia Schuckman of La Crosse. She was preceded in death by one brother, Linus Stegman; and two sisters, Rosaline Weikert McAfee and Armella Graf. Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday and vigil will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, both at Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend. WALDO - Lyle Clifford Trapp, 93, died March 29 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina. He was born Oct. 24, 1909, in Russell County near Bunker Hill, the son of John Charles and Cora Sellens Trapp. He was a graduate of Waldo High School. He married
Evelyn Elizabeth Bean Aug. 5, 1939, at Beverly. A resident of rural Waldo, he was a lifetime farmer and stockman. Trapp was active on Russell County Extension Council and had been presented with a conservation award for his efforts on his farm. He served as livestock leader for Paradise Dell and Lone Star 4-H clubs, was active as a school board member for many years and had been a member of Kansas Livestock Association for nearly 50 years. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, John Trapp of Salina and James Trapp of Stillwater, Okla.; one brother, Earl Trapp of Luray; one sister, Ida Terry of Russell; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer Trapp; and one sister, Mary Wheeler. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pohlman's Memorial Chapel in Russell, with the Rev. Ed Palmer officiating. HAYS - Gilbert Eugene 'Gib' Scheck, 67, died March 28 at his home in Hays. He was born Sept. 25, 1935, at Walker, the son of Joseph P. and Magdalena Windholz Scheck. He married
Judeth 'Jude' Mai Oct. 29, 1962, at Victoria. A resident of Hays since 1965, coming from Victoria, he retired from Kansas Corporation Commission in 1991. Scheck was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church of Hays. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Monique Scheck-Holmes of Douglas, Wyo.; four brothers, Peter Scheck of Great Bend, Edwin Scheck and Melvin Scheck, both of Russell, and Linus Scheck of Macksville; four sisters, Rubina Dinkel of Oakley, Mary Weigel, Katie Scheck and Lena Meder, all of Victoria; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Seraphine Scheck and Victor Scheck; and two sisters, Bertha Denning and Leona Scheck. TUCSON, Ariz. - Angela Murphy, 17, died March 22. She was born Jan. 20, 1986, the daughter of Patricia Thompson and Steven Murphy. She was a member of the Concert Choir at CDO High School. She was enrolled in CDO's culinary program and interned at Jano's Restaurant. Survivors include her mother of Tucson; her father of Wichita; one brother, Taylor Murphy of Tucson; and grandparents, Virginia Smith of Overland Park, and Robert and Coralie Button of Great Bend. A memorial service was held in Tucson. Desert Sunset Funeral Home of Tucson was in charge of arrangements.
Lyndon G. 'Shorty' Yeager 1929-2003
LARNED - Lyndon G. 'Shorty' Yeager, 74, died March 26, at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Jan. 1, 1929 in Pawnee County, the son of Jesse and Grace Butts Yeager. He married
Leta Maxine Clawson Oct. 12, 1948, at Larned. A lifetime resident of Larned, he was a power plant operator for the City of Larned. Survivors include three sons, Stanley Yeager of Columbia, S. C., Denys Yeager of Gates, Tenn., and Galyn Yeager of Winfield; one daughter, Linda Cavanaugh of Rockford, Ill.; two brothers, Mildon Yeager of Larned and Drexel Yeager of Waterberry, Conn.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Arlen Yeager. Memorial service was at 10:30 today at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned with the Rev. John Grummon officiating. Burial was at Larned cemetery. Harold E. Richardson 1930-2003
STAFFORD - Harold E. Richardson, 72, died March 26 at Leisure Homestead in St. John.. He was born Dec. 12, 1930, at Hutchinson, the son of Clinton and Alice McGregor Richardson. A resident of Stafford most of his life before moving to St. John Leisure Home in 1995. He was an oil pumper and farmer. Richardson was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Richardson. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peace Creek cemetery in rural Stafford. There will be no visitation. C.M. Phinney Jr. 1930-2003
LARNED - C.M. Phinney Jr., 72, died March 27 at Larned Health Care and Living Center in Larned. He was born June 4, 1930, at Larned, the son of Clyde Montgomery Sr. and Hilda Katherine Shiplett Phinney. He was a graduate of Kansas State University in chemical engineering and had an advanced degree in business from Hamilton Institute of Business. He married
Marylee Meals Aug. 22, 1952, at Dodge City. A lifetime resident of Larned, he was a chemical engineer and was prior owner of Phinney's LTD, Tans State Bus of Larned. He served with EPA in Kansas City as a licensed chemical engineer and was also licensed in Missouri. Phinney was a member of First Presbyterian Church, KSU Alumni, Chemical Engineer Society and Pawnee County Extension Council, he was founding member of Pawnee County 4-H foundation and active in 4-H. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Monte Phinney of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Deb Phinney of Tallahassee, Fla.; two brothers, Dick Phinney of Dallas, Texas, and Don Phinney of Pasadena, Calif.; and one sister, Joy Jillson of Russell. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Phinney. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. James Hawthrone officiating. Burial will be at Belpre cemetery in Belpre. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Jeff Thetford of Moline; three brothers, Pat Thetford and Morris Thetford, both of Topeka, and William Thetford of Harveyville; one sister, Retha Ann Huske of Topeka; and two grandchildren. Ernest W. Strahan Feb. 17, 1938, at Oklahoma City, Okla. He died April 17, 1971. She was a teacher at Sunset School in Salina and co-owner of Strahan Creamery and Ice Cream Store. Mrs. Strahan was a member of First Baptist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, KNEA and Salina Country Club. Survivors include one son, John W. Strahan; and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Dillingham and Roy Dillingham. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Roselawn cemetery in Salina with the Rev. Robert Albin officiating. James McGinness April 25, 1935, at Hamburg, Iowa. A resident of Great Bend since 1973, coming from Tribune, she was a former owner of Dairy King in Tribune. Mrs. McGinness was of the Presbyterian faith. Survivors include a companion, Bill Krestine of Great Bend; two sons, Carl McGinness of Sandstone, W.V., and Jim McGinness of Larned; two daughters, Juanita LeDesma of El Paso, Texas, and Judith Campbell of Tribune; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Claude McGinness; three brothers, Willie Phillips, Russell Phillips and Lonnie Phillips; two sisters, Ada Phillips and Anna Phillips; and two granddaughters, Tammy Campbell and Julie LeDesma.
