Larry L. Kasselman 1950-2003
ELLINWOOD - Larry L. Kasselman, 53, died April 24 at Robert Dole Medical Center in Wichita. He was born March 31, 1950, at Great Bend, the son of Robert D. and Jerry L. Bates Kasselman. A resident of Ellinwood for the past year, coming from Buffalo, N.Y., he was employed in concrete construction. Kasselman was a former member of First Baptist Church of Ellinwood. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. Survivors include his companion, Cheri Balun of Ellinwood; two sons, Jamey Kasselman of Tampa, Fla., and Jeremy Kasselman of Buffalo; his mother of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; one brother, Lewis Kasselman of Bonner Springs; and one sister, Cheryl Archer of Holly Springs, N.C. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kimple Funeral Chapel in Ellinwood, with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be at Lakin- Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Lee E. Nusser 1934-2003
ST. JOHN - Lee E. Nusser, 68, died April 25 at Stafford District Hospital in Stafford. He was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Rolla, the son of Walter J. and Anna Irene Nusser. He was a 1952 graduate of Plevna High and attended Sterling College. He married
Audrey F. Nusser June 16, 1956, at Sylvia. A resident of St. John since 1968, coming from Emporia, he was 20th District Judicial Magistrate Judge from 1975-1999, Hutchinson policeman from 1959-64, and Kansas Highway Patrolman from 1964- 1973. Nusser was a member of First United Methodist Church of St. John, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Russell, Masonic Lodge 254, IOOF Lodge 539, Scottish Rites, Kansas District Magistrate Judges Association, Court Appointed Special Advocate and Kansas Troopers Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Phillip E. Nusser of St. John and Kelly L. Nusser of Lyons; one daughter, Lori D. Nusser of St. John; his stepmother, Iva Nusser of Irvine, Calif.; two brothers, Wendell J. Nusser of Topeka and Wallace Andsager of South Hutchinson; two sisters, Sharon R. Bartz of Gainesville, Fla., and Janice Bruner of Irvine; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin F. Nusser; and one sister, Virginia Palmer. DORRANCE - Athol D. Betts, 75, died April 23 at Memorial Hospital in McPherson. He was born Aug. 23, 1927, at Dorrance, the son of Martin and Elsie Miller Betts. He married
Mary A. Schepmann Feb. 4, 1951, at Holyrood. Alifetime resident of Dorrance, he was owner and operator of AJ&E Oil Field Service. Betts was a member of First Lutheran Church of Dorrance, life member of Russell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6240, member of Dorrance American Legion and Dorrance Volunteer Fire Department. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Larry Betts of Sherman, Texas, and Michael Betts of Hays; one daughter, Jacque Lyn Bay of Dorrance; three brothers, Leroy 'Tiny' Betts of Russell, Edward Betts of Gillete, Wyo., and Lester 'Butch' Betts of Dorrance and McCook, Neb.; one sister, Imogene Galliart of Wilson; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Betts; and one sister, Verba Gilmore. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Diane Wagner officiating. HAYS - Juliana M. Dinkel, 77, died April 24 at Saint John's of Hays Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 16, 1925, in Vincent, the daughter of Leo and Anna Huser Rajewski. She married
Victor J. Dinkel Sept. 20, 1948, at Vincent. A resident of Hays, coming from Brownell, she was a cook at Grissell Memorial Hospital in Ransom for more than 15 years. Mrs. Dinkel was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Hays. Survivors include her husband of Victoria; one son, George V. Dinkel of Brownell; two daughters, Judith M. Augustine of Hays and Denice A. Fuller of Concordia; two brothers, Howard Rajewski of Victoria and Delando Rajewski of Arvada, Colo.; one sister, Kathleen Sander of Great Bend; seven grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; one great-grandchild; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Marceline Denning. Funeral is at 10 a.m. today at the church. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Saint Boniface cemetery in Vincent. George Howard Glenn 1915-2003
CAMINO, Calif. - George Howard Glenn, 87, died April 16 at his home in Camino. He was born May 31, 1915, at Galatia, the son of George Claybrooks and Floy Amanda Brown Glenn. He married
Mary Frances Dale Jan. 10, 1936, at Stafford. A resident of Camino for 31 years, coming from southern California, he was an electrician and had worked in many missile silos and in general and power line construction. Glenn was a member of Pollock Pines First Baptist Church of Pollock Pines, Calif., and National Pony Express Association. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Chuck Glenn of Placerville, Calif.; three daughters, Thais Fritzemeier of Modesto, Calif., Clarkie Wetmore of Camino and Ruth Ann Eide of Kelsey, Calif.; one sister, Ruth Eldridge of Meeteetse, Wyo.; 13 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Glenn; two sisters, Effie Bugglen and Twila Goodwin; and one great-grandchild, Weston Michael Cruz. STAFFORD -Edith Irene Wilson, 78, died April 23 at Stafford District Hospital. She was born Nov. 29, 1924, at rural Stafford, the daughter of John and Anna Witt Allen. She was a 1942 graduate of Stafford High School and attended Hutchinson Business College. She married
Harry Rick Calvird Jan. 10, 1944. She then married
Billie Wilson May 12, 1963, at Stafford. He died Oct. 3, 1982. A lifetime Stafford resident, she was a homemaker and a secretary/bookkeeper for Stafford Grain and Supply, Farmer's National Bank of Stafford and Kansas State Grain Inspection of Hutchinson. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, an officer of Women's Missionary Fellowship and a member of Stafford Housing Board. Survivors include one son, Ronald Douglas Calvrid of Custer, S.D.; two sisters, Marjorie Adel Kail of Tribune and Elsie Pound of St. John; and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by one brother, Edgar Allen; and two sisters, Lillian Laverne Frink and Mae Valetta Roe. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church in Stafford with the Rev. LARNED - Thelma S. Caro, 84, died April 21 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis in Wichita. She was born April 28, 1918, at Sterling, the daughter of James Zachariah and Jessie Mae Morris Stewart. She married
Lyle Eugene Caro Nov. 22, 1937, at Lyons. He died June 10, 1998. A resident of Wichita, coming from Sterling, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Caro was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Wichita and a former member of Eastern Star of Hutchinson. Survivors include three daughters, Michelle Stewart of Pope, Ala., Fontella Kay Buddin of Detroit, Mich., and Zetta Mae Sims of Wichita; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, James Eugene Caro. HUTCHINSON - Evelyn W. Barb, 90, died April 24 at Hutchinson Hospital. She was born Jan. 18, 1913, at Spearville the daughter of George W. and Caroline Fowler Umbach. She was a 1929 graduate of Spearville High School and a 1933 graduate of Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia. She married
Harold S. Barb May 25, 1935. He died Aug. 30, 1983. A Hutchinson resident since 1974, she was a teacher and a homemaker. Mrs. Barb was a member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church in Hutchinson. Survivors include one son, Ken Barb of Rochester Hills, Mich.; one daughter, Carol Wiebe of Hillsboro; one sister, Eleanor Wright of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by on infant son, Don; and three sisters, Hazel Gregory, Mildred Wilcox and Marjorie Clayton. Funeral will be at 10 this morning at Wesley Towers Chapel with the Rev. LYONS - Helen Rae Hudson, 83, died April 23 at Lyons District Hospital in Lyons. She was born April 16, 1920, at Lyons the daughter of Elmer and Hazel Douglas Vaughn. She was 1938 graduate of Lyons High School. She married
Cleo Hudson June 22, 1940, at Lyons. He died Sept. 26, 1974. Alifetime Lyons resident, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Hudson was a member AME Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Lyons. Survivors include two sons, Michael Hudson of Lyons and John Hudson of Los Angeles, Calif; one brother, Don Vaughn of Lyons; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Neal Vaughn. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons with the Rev. Robert Friesen officiating. Julia Irene Most, 83, of Great Bend, died April 23 at Central Kansas Medical Center. She was born Dec. 23, 1919, at Nowata, Okla., the daughter of John C. and Dora Humes Broker. She married
Lonnie H. Brown in 1938 at Nowata. He died in November of 1959. She married
Floyd H. Most on Sept. 4, 1960, at Great Bend. He died Nov. 27, 1987. A resident of Barton County since 1958, coming from Hominy, Okla., she was a sales clerk for J.C. Penney, retiring in 1977. Mrs. Most was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ of Great Bend and AARP. Survivors include one brother, Johnie Broker of South Coffeyville, Okla.; and one sister, Ethel Beal of Clayton, Okla. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Georgia June Brown; and one sister, Lelia Baker. Funeral will be at 1.30 this afternoon at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. Diana Coberly officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount Washington cemetery in Lenepah, Okla. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. LA CROSSE -Martin S. Turner, 81, died April 23 at Rush County Memorial Long Term Care in La Crosse. He was born Jan. 6, 1922, at Arkansas City, the son of Arthur and Eureka Hardy Turner. He graduated from Arkansas City High School, Sterling College and Kansas State University in Manhattan. He married
Laura A. Stacey May 20, 1951, at Mayfield Country Church near Longford. A resident of Arkansas City, coming from La Crosse, he was a teacher at Preston, Great Bend and Otis- Bison High School and a principal at La Crosse High School. Turner was a member of United Methodist Church in La Crosse, various church boards, United Methodist Church Choir, past president Barnard Library, past board member of Rush County Memorial Hospital and past board member of Baker Trust. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a lieutenant in Germany during World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Keith S. Turner of Keller, Texas; one daughter, Peggy L. Schrott of Lake Jackson, Texas; one brother, Alvah Turner of Hutchinson; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Turner; and one sister, Rose Crumley. Phyllis Virginia Casper 1919-2003
Phyllis V. Casper, 83, of Great Bend, died April 22 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born Nov. 6, 1919, at Clifton, the daughter of John Andrew and Anna Anderson Casper. After working as a secretary for the State of Kansas in Topeka, and later Boeing in Wichita, Phyllis moved to Great Bend in the late 1940s where she worked for Howard's Apparel Shop. She later became a part owner of Howard's Apparel Shop, which closed last October. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include one brother, Harlan Casper of Wichita; one sister, Audrey Hall of Great Bend; two nieces; and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Jeanette Livingston in November 1990 and by her sister Marjorie Howard in November 2002. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. Mary Ohlemeier officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, both at the funeral home. Douglas Dean Mohr 1948-2003
PASADENA, Texas - Douglas Dean Mohr, 57, died April 15. He was born June 9, 1945, in Great Bend, the son of Carl S. and Zoe V. Hull Mohr. Survivors include five brothers, Bud Mohr of Pasadena, Bob Mohr of Chilicothe, Mo., Jim Mohr of Woodbine, Richard Mohr of Great Bend and Tommy Mohr of Cypress, Texas; and four sisters, Virginia Sharp of Wichita, Joyce Lofland and Rosilyn Kruckenberg, both of Great Bend, and Marilyn Bird of Nashville, Tenn. A memorial service was held April 19 at Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena with the Rev. Bob Mohr leading the Remembrance service. Cremation has taken place. No memorials are suggested.
