Obituary: Harold Livingston Reese, 96, passed away in Lyle House at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan on January 4, 2008. He was born June 22, 1911, in Bryant, South Dakota, to parents John B. and DeEtte (Lang) Reese and grew up in Mitchell, South Dakota.
A career educator in higher learning, Harold attended Northwestern University for graduate studies in English, and taught at the University of Alabama, University of Missouri, Kansas City Junior College, and Longview Community College. He lived in Raymore, Missouri, for 46 years where he gardened and raised registered Angus cattle. He moved to Manhattan in 1996 to be closer to family.

Harold also was fascinated with western history, especially the Oregon Trail and the Santa Fe Trail.

Memorials: Memorials have been designated in Josephine's name to the Manhattan Catholic School Fund, Manhattan Hospice and Home Care, and the Oblate Foreign Mission Fund. Contributions can be made in care of Fr. Richard Weixelman, OMI, 112 N. 9th Street, Manhattan, KS 66502.
Obituary: Josephine A. Weixelman, 93, Manhattan, KS passed away Friday, December 28, 2007 in her home after an extended illness.
She was born October 10, 1914 at Greenleaf, KS and had been a Manhattan resident since 1938. Josephine was the fifth of nine children born to Charles Donigan and Minnie Brown.
Jo, as she was affectionately called by all who knew her, learned to play piano and violin from her father before graduating from grade school. All her life she enjoyed entertaining others with her music. In three years, Josephine graduated from high school at Marymount College Salina. At 17, Jo considered joining the sisters of St. Joseph in Concordia. After two years with the sisters she returned to Greenleaf and worked in the local parish before obtaining a job as sales girl with Cole's Dept. Store in Manhattan. In just a short time Josephine met her husband to be, Gerard Weixelman, on the steps of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church. Three months later, they were married.
For the next 20 years, Jo was a busy wife, mother of eight children and helping her husband, Gerard, operate their family skating rink. When the children were older, Josephine became active in the parish Altar Society, Church Women United and the "Joy of the Lord"" prayer group which she helped found and led for many years. One of Jo's great passions was the Seven Dolors Budget Shop which she helped found and managed for more than 20 years. Josephine seemed to have limitless energy and was always looking for ways to serve. For years, she played piano for the folks at Douglas and Manhattan Senior Centers.
Up to the age of 75, Jo could be seen daily going here and there on her old bicycle or in her old yellow Ford. But, even after being forced to give up the bicycle and car, she never slowed down until 2002 when she collapsed at Sunday Mass from heart failure and was rushed to the emergency room. For the next five years she was confined to her wheelchair and bed but her story-telling, laughter, sharp wit, with her many daily visitors, and her interest in everyone and everything never diminished up to the moment our dear Lord called His dear Jo to her eternal home with Him.
Josephine is survived by her eight children: Fr. Richard of the Philippines, Teresa Romano of Thornton, CO, James of Colorado Springs, Michael of Palacios, Texas, Bernadette Newman of Toledo, Ohio, John of Wichita, Timothy of Sandy Valley, Nev, and Mary Fecht of Corpus Christi Texas. Also survived are 24 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. Josephine is also survived by a younger brother, Jim Donigan of Greenleaf, and two sisters; Mary Alice Schwartzfiger, Toledo, Ohio, and Patricia Stephenson, Papillion, NE.
The family wants to thank the parish of Seven Dolors, the Manhattan Homecare and Hospice and the numerous friends and many good people of Manhattan who have made the past five years very special for Josephine and her family. God bless you all.
In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Weixelman’s body was donated to the K.U. Medical Center for research purposes. Memorials have been designated in Josephine's name to the Manhattan Catholic School Fund, Manhattan Hospice and Home Care, and the Oblate Foreign Mission Fund. Contributions can be made in care of Fr. Richard Weixelman, OMI, 112 N. 9th Street, Manhattan, KS 66502.
