ELLINWOOD - Adeline M. Sharp, 82, died Sept. 14 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center in Great Bend. She was born March 28, 1921, at Odin, the daughter of Carl and Josephine Frenzel Jenisch. She married
Charles W. Sharp Oct. 7, 1937, at Great Bend. A long-time Ellinwood resident, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Sharp was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella, all of Ellinwood. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Glenn C. Sharp of Colby; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Charles Jenisch, Joe Jenisch, Ed Jenisch, Bill Jenisch, Martin Jenisch and Elmer Jenisch; and two sisters, Minnie Herrmann and Leona Dressel. Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. today followed by Daughters of Isabella rosary, both at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. A vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. R. Howard Rapp 1908-2003
KINSLEY - R. Howard Rapp, 95, died Sept. 14 at Medicalodge at Kinsley. He was born May 16, 1908, at Kinsley, the son of Harry and Lena Hildebrand Rapp. He married
Virginia Lippoldt May 1, 1940, at Kinsley. A lifetime resident of Kinsley, he was a retired owner and operator of Rapp's Gifts and Hobbies for 36 years. Rapp was a member of United Methodist Church and a life member of American Legion and past commander, all of Kinsley. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one brother, John Rapp of Ellinwood; and one sister, Myrna Rankin of Colorado Springs, Colo. He was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Ploger. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. David Bell officiating. Burial will be at Hillside cemetery in Kinsley. Brian Keith Betts 1959-2003
YARMOUTH, Iowa - Brian Keith Betts, 44, died Sept. 11 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born Feb. 2, 1959, at Memphis, Tenn., the son of LeRoy and Vivian Garrett Betts. He graduated from Dorrance High School in 1977, and attended Northwest Community College in Powell, Wyo., and Kansas State University, where he received a degree in photo journalism. He earned a bachelor's degree in theology and completed his master's degree in pastoral theology in 2003 at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa. He married
Trudy D. Luerman Aug. 12, 1978, at Salina. He was pastor of the First Baptist Church at Yarmouth for several years. He was also chaplain for the Des Moines County Hospice. He served in the military at Fort Bragg, NC, with the 82nd Airborne Division. He served in the United States Army during Desert Shield and Desert Storm as a photo journalist in Kuwait, and was serving in the Iowa National Guard with the Public Affairs Directorate, having just returned on Sept. 3 from a three-week tour with the National Guard in Korea. Betts was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6240 at Russell and was a member of the National Guard Enlisted Association. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Amber Dina of Eagle, Idaho and Ashlee Hartman of Clearfield, Utah; his parents of Russell; and two brothers, Allan Betts of Antonio and Roger Betts of Shattuck, Okla. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church in Yarmouth. Local funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Wilson. Pastor Betts will lie in state from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church in Wilson. Interment with full military honors by the U.S. Army from Ft. Msgr. Emil E. Sinner 1917-2003
WILSON - Msgr. Emil E. Sinner, 86, died Sept. 12 in Wilson. He was born Jan. 4, 1917, at Tipton, the son of Edward and Elizabeth Sinner. After declaring his intention to become a priest, Sinner spent two years at the St. Joseph's Military Academy in Hays. He was ordained by Bishop Frank Thill at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Concordia on May 30, 1942. His seminary study was done at St. Louis Preparatory Seminary, followed by four years at Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis. His first pastoral duties were performed at Seven Dolors parish in Manhattan, where he was an assistant pastor to the Rev. Msgr. A.J. Luckey and chaplain at St. Mary's Hospital and the Catholic Newman Center at Kansas State University. He filled in briefly at St. John's parish in Hanover, then became assistant pastor of the parish in Concordia and assistant editor and business manager of the Catholic Register. He then moved to Clay Center's Sts. Peter and Paul parish where the Catholic Register was based for a short time. He became pro-chancellor of the diocese in August 1947 and moved to Salina where he was an assistant to the Rev. Msgr. John Duskie at Sacred Heart Cathedral for three years. His next assignment was to Sacred Heart Parish at Oberlin for 12 years, and while there he was the chaplain at the Kansas State Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Norton. Following a three-year stay as pastor at Holy Cross Church, Pfeifer, he was appointed pastor at St. Wenceslaus, Wilson, where he served for 28 years until his retirement in 1993. He also celebrated Mass at nearby Lake Wilson for many years. Survivors include a sister, Kathryn Albrecht of Downs; two nieces, Jane Mick of Sand Springs, Okla., and Carol Kratky of Hesston; and two nephews, Donald and Alan Reinert of Wichita. He was preceded in death by six siblings. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Wenceslaus Church in Wilson with the Rev. Jerome Morgan officiating. STAFFORD - Lucile Hildebrand, 98, died Sept. 10 at Leisure Homestead in Stafford. She was born June 24, 1905, at Ellinwood, the daughter of John and Emma Tanck DeWerff. She married
Herman Hildebrand Aug. 7, 1932, in Ellinwood. He died June 2, 1996. A resident of Stafford most her life, coming from Ellinwood, she was a cook for the country school C-11 and a homemaker. Mrs. Hildebrand was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Sunday school teacher, women's church group, led Week Day Bible School, member of Garden Club, EHU and was a volunteer at Leisure Homestead. Survivors include two sons, Arnold Hildebrand and Norman Hildebrand, both of Stafford; one brother, Jack DeWerff of Ellinwood; eight grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Gordon Hildebrand; her stepmother, Hattie Tanck DeWerff; two brothers, Chester DeWerff and Harold DeWerff; and three sisters, Ruby Schrader, Gertrude Scheufler and Mildred Krueger. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. David Vetter officiating. Burial will be at Stafford cemetery. Tonya 'TJ' Tootle July 4, 1987, at Hoisington. She died March 20, 2002. A resident of the Susank and Hoisington area, he was a welder. Michael Jacob Ulrich Jan. 20, 1952, at Russell. He died April 10, 1999. A resident of Russell since 1985, coming from a farm near Luray, she was a homemaker and farmwife. Mrs. Ulrich was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ladies Circle and church choir, all of Russell. Survivors include three sons, Michael John Ulrich and Martin Ulrich, both of Waldo, and David Ulrich of Luray; one brother, Wilber Dean Ehrlich of Russell; two sisters, Loretta Watkins of Topeka and Fern TenEyck of Alma; 15 grandchildren; and one great- grandson. Cecil E. Buhrer June 1, 1930, at Coldwater. He died Jan. 7, 1985. A longtime Pawnee County resident, coming from Ringwood, she was a farm homemaker. Mrs. Buhrer was a member of First Methodist Church of Larned and Zook EHU. Survivors include one son, Cecil 'Skip' Buhrer of Belpre; three sisters, Grace O. Keller, Dora L. Bowman and Christobelle Huck, all of Larned; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, David Henning and Mark Henning; and three sisters, Mabel Storey, Augusta Bowlus and Emma Holland. A resident of Great Bend since 1983, coming from Hoisington, he was a farmer and worked at Hoisington Cheese Plant and for the city of Great Bend until his retirement. Schneweis was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Leonard Miller, Kenneth Miller and James Miller, all of Great Bend, and Curtis Miller of Salina; four daughters, Annette Pellett of Boulder, Colo., Judy Blanchard of Khadarovsk, Russia, Mary Ramsey of Great Bend and Sharon Garner of Dubuque, Iowa; two sisters, Evangeline Luft of Topeka and Magdalene Schauf of Great Bend; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Roy L. Glenn Oct. 14, 1928, at Wellington. He died Dec. 8, 1996. A resident of Ellinwood since 1993, coming from Bushton, she was a homemaker and retired school teacher. Mrs. Glenn was a member of United Methodist Church, served as president of Women's Society, Circle leader, administrative board, Sunday school teacher and lay member to annual conference, all of Bushton, 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star, Holyrood Chapter 420. Survivors include one son, DeVon L. Glenn of Lakewood, Colo., two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Geneva M. Wilkes June 27, 1990, at Topeka. She died Feb. 3, 1994. A resident of Woodward since 1995, coming from Ellinwood and Holyrood, he was a retired oil field pumper for Mobil Oil Co., a real estate broker and a Kirby salesman. Carlisle was a former member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, church council and Rotary Club, all of Ellinwood, Masonic Lodge in Ellinwood and Isis Shrine in Salina. Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Oliver of Madison, Maine; four stepsons, Dennis Price of Woodward, David Price, Lowell Price and Kenneth Wilkes, all of Kansas; one brother, Gerald Carlisle of Encinal, Texas; one sister, Ruby Jean Moore of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, W.E. 'Red' Carlisle and Darrell Carlisle. A private family service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood.
