Dorothy Helen Steinert, 85, of Great Bend, died Nov. 16 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Feb. 2, 1918, at Aulne, in Marion County, the daughter of William and Nancy Larsen McGinness. She married Hubert B. Steinert July 28, 1946, at Aulne. He died Dec. 25, 2001. A resident of Great Bend since 1946, coming from Aulne, she taught in country schools in Russell County and Jetmore prior to marriage and after marriage was a housewife. Mrs. Steinert was a member of First United Methodist Church of Great Bend. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Carroll of Great Bend and Jane Sargent of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, the Rev. Earl McGinness of Lyons and Edward McGinness of Marion; two grandchildren, Jaime Harms and John Carroll; and two great-grandchildren, Kassidy Paige and Audrie Leeann. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, all at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Beada E. Bott 1912-2003
LA CROSSE - Beada E. Bott, 91, died Nov. 15 at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. She was born July 29, 1912, at Butler, Okla., the daughter of William H. and Sophia Fuehrer Horst. She married Paul Bott Dec. 30, 1934, at Clinton, Okla. He died March 14, 1993. A resident of La Crosse, coming from rural Rush County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Bott was a member of United Methodist Church of La Crosse. Survivors include three sons, Garry Bott and Greg Bott, both of La Crosse, and Doug Bott of Bison; four daughters, Shirley Ochs of Lompoc, Calif., Kay Hardwick of La Crosse, Caroleen Lou Herrman of Hayward, Calif., and Barbara Unruh of Baxter Springs; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Sidney Wayne Bott; two brothers, Ted Horst and Herman Horst; one sister, Alvina Bozarth; and one grandson, Joseph Bott. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse, with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Ronald Joseph 'Ron' Billinger 1940-2003
HAYS - Ronald Joseph 'Ron' Billinger, 63, died Nov. 16 at Hays Medical Center. He was born June 30, 1940, at St. Peter, the son of Michael Joseph and Kathryn Sauer Billinger. He married Brenda Finucane Feb. 13, 1965, at Joliett, Ill. He married Mary White Oct. 4, 2003, at Hays. A resident of St. Peter, he was a butcher and a farm worker. Billinger was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Peter and Coin Club. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Michael Billinger of Hays; four daughters, Mary Kathryn Copeland and Monica Billinger, both of Hays, Maureen Billinger of Chicago, Ill., and Torie Richmond of Stockton; one stepson, Jasen Gray of Colby; one stepdaughter, Jenna Gray of Salina; his mother, Kathryn Pierce of Ellis; three brothers, Jerry Billinger of Surprise, Ariz., Rich Billinger of Overland Park and Stan Billinger of Great Bend; one sister, Erlena Wheeler of Rose Hill; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carmelita Billinger and Sophia Billinger. A family prayer service will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Frances T. Sessler 1913-2003
ELLINWOOD - Frances T. Sessler, 90, died Nov. 15 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born March 20, 1913, in Odin, the daughter of Frank Joseph and Mary Louise Frenzl Huschka. She married Lawrence W. Sessler Feb. 14, 1934, north of Ellinwood. He died Jan. 16, 1988. A lifetime resident of Barton County, she was a farm wife. Mrs. Sessler was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Altar Society, Sunshine Club, Heritage Club and Pinochle Club, all of Ellinwood. Survivors include one daughter, Elma Jean Miller of Ellinwood; two brothers, Martin Huschka of Garden City and LeRoy Huschka of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Leona Klein of Ellinwood and Evelyn Behr of Hoisington; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at the church, with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery at Ellinwood. Irene O. Evers 1921-2003
WICHITA - Irene O. Evers, 82, died Nov. 15. She was born June 14, 1921, at Great Bend, the daughter of Charles Francis and Otilla Farenbach Hoss. She married Kirby C. Evers. A resident of Wichita, formerly of Great Bend, she was a retired registered nurse and a homemaker. Survivors include three sons, Larry L. Evers of Wichita, Kirby J. Evers of Denver, Colo., and James W. Evers of Lawrence; three brothers, Paul Hoss and Phillip Hoss, both of Great Bend, and Steve Hoss of Fairview, Texas; three sisters, Ann Bauer of Houston, Texas, Angie Geil of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Agatha Berryhill of Gautier, Miss.; and four grandchildren. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Great Bend cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association or Midwest Historical and Genealogy Society, both in care of Downing and Lahey East Mortuary in Wichita.

Wanda Norene Kayartz 1927-2003
WICHITA - Wanda Norene Kayartz, 76, died Nov. 15. A resident of Wichita, she was a homemaker. Survivors include two daughters, Judie Sexson and Carol Rankin, both of Wichita; one brother, Lowell Meier of Ellinwood; one sister, Joann Wunder of Great Bend; three granddaughters, Tina Williams, Jeanette May and Renee Rankin-Bates; five great-grandchildren, Ryan Williams, Kylie Williams, Zach May, Natalie May and Nathan May; and numerous friends. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Otis Lutheran cemetery. Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. today at Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Wichita. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Hillside Funeral Home - West in Wichita.

Rose T. Pechanec 1909-2003
TIMKEN - Rose T. Pechanec, 94, died Nov. 16 at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in La Crosse. She was born Oct. 16, 1909, in Bonov, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Frank and Rose Seda Vsetecka. She married Henry J. Pechanec Nov. 12, 1928, in Schuyler, Neb. He died Feb. 25, 1995. A longtime resident of Rush County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Pechanec was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Catholic Workman Lodge and St. Ann's Altar Society, all of Timken. Survivors include three sons, Victor A. Pechanec and Stephen C. Pechanec, both of Timken, and Ivan H. Pechanec of Wichita; one brother, Charles Vsetecka of Victoria; one sister, Mary Cecil of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 18 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Francis H. Pechanec; one daughter, Anita R. Pechanec; one brother, Frank Vsetecka; one sister, Bessie Swanek; and one great-grandchild. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Charles Mazouch officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Timken. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Merrill D. Bayer 1930-2003
ELLINWOOD - Merrill D. Bayer, 73, died Nov. 13 at Hutchinson Hospital. He was born March 9, 1930, at Rice County, the son of Amos J. and Laura Lebbin Bayer. He was a graduate of Ellinwood High School. He married Virginia Pangburn Nov. 8, 1953, at Lyons. A lifetime Rice County resident, he was a farmer. Bayer was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood and StoneRidge Country Club of Great Bend. He was with the 89th division of the U.S. Army Reserve. Survivors include his wife of the home; and one brother, Amos Bayer of Raymond. He was preceded in death by one brother, Don Bayer. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, both at the funeral home. Imogene L. Galliart 1921-2003
WILSON - Imogene L. Galliart, 82, died Nov. 12 at Wilson Nursing Center in Wilson. She was born Oct. 7, 1921, at Dorrance, the daughter of Martin and Elsie Miller Betts. She married George Galliart Sept. 9, 1940, at Ellsworth. A lifetime Wilson-area resident, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Galliart was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and American Legion Auxiliary, both of Wilson, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Russell. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, George L. Galliart Jr. of Wilson; three brothers, LeeRoy Betts of Russell, Edward Betts of Gillette, Wyo., and Lester Betts of Dorrance and McCook, Neb.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Athol Betts and Marvin Betts; and one sister, Verba. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Jim Wagner officiating. Burial will be at Wilson City cemetery in Wilson. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Foster Mortuary in Wilson and from 9 a.m. to service time Monday at the church. James Russell Hoss Sr. 1917-2003
HOISINGTON - James Russell Hoss Sr., 86, died Nov. 12 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. He was born May 5, 1917, at Virginia City, Iowa, the son of Thomas C. and Cora E. Golightly Hoss. He married Edith Blevins Jan. 1, 1937, at Tulsa, Okla. She died Feb. 21, 1994. A resident of Hoisington since 1938, coming from Lyons, he retired in 1985 from Brougher Oil Co., where he worked as a driller. Survivors include one daughter, Kay Barker of Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Rebecca Anderson of rural Otis, C. Russell Hoss of Atlanta, Ga., Cheryll Barker-Cox, Kasie Atwood and Russell Barker, both of Knoxville; five great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded by one son, James R. Hoss Jr. March 31, 1994. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, with the Rev. Don Fisher officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Barton County. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Robert 'Bob' Detrich 1920-2003
WICHITA - Robert 'Bob' Detrich, 82, died Nov. 11 at his home in Wichita. He was born Dec. 19, 1920, at Breckenridge, Texas. He was a retired oil and natural gas well driller. Survivors include two sons, Robert James Detrich and Alan Leon Detrich, both of Great Bend, two brothers, William Detrich of Simi Valley, Calif. and Norman Detrich of Mio, Mich., and four sisters, Mable Hammond and Bonnie Kipple, both of Wichita, Shirley Miller of Radium, and Helen Deliere of Simi Valley. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jean Detrich, second wife, Nada M. Hottle,one half brother, Joseph Detrich and one sister Betty Herman. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, Wichita. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wichita Association for the Deaf Senior Citizens, 1646 E. Central, Wichita, KS 67214.

Mary E. 'Beth' Beck 1915-2003
LARNED - Mary E. 'Beth' Beck, 88, died Nov. 12 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned. She was born Oct. 23, 1915, in rural Hodgeman County, the daughter of Arthur T. and Elzetta Rhoads Kingry. She was a graduate of Kinsley High School and attended Southwestern College in Winfield. She married John W. Hill Jan. 30, 1937, at Kinsley. He died Sept. 8, 1980. She married William Beck March 25, 1982, at Larned. A longtime resident of Larned, she was a retired bookkeeper for Doerr's of Larned. Mrs. Beck was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women and American Legion, all of Larned, and Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Tony Hill of Holcomb; two stepdaughters, Linda Wyman-Mead of Larned and Carol Champion of Carson City, Nev.; one sister, Katherine Lewis of Kinsley; two grandsons; and four great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Leona Scott, Elzetta Lucas and Sybil Heinz. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned with the Rev. Jim Hawthorne officiating. Burial will be at Larned cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home. Margaret Elizabeth Stromer 1905-2003
LARNED - Margaret Elizabeth Stromer, 98, died Nov. 12 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned. She was born April 9, 1905, at Seward, the daughter of Ulysses A. and Ava A. Parker Gore. She was a 1923 graduate of St. John High School. She married Bertle Williard Stromer April 7, 1939, at St. John. He died Jan. 22, 1984. A resident of Larned since 1983, coming from LaCanda, Calif., she was a retired teacher for Stafford and Pawnee County schools. Mrs. Stromer was a member of First Christian Church of Larned and a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star of St. John. Survivors include nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Gore; and five sisters, Minnie McMillan, Flora Stafford, Jennie Barstow, Katherine Harms and Lola Smith. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned with the Rev. Dan Lundgren officiating. Burial will be at Larned cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, in care of the mortuary.
