Anthony Justice
Anthony Dewhayne Justice, 28, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.
Anthony worked in construction and was a member of the Trinity Harvest Church.
Anthony was born in Pike County, Jan. 28, 1984, the son of Elizabeth Childress and Keith Dewhayne Justice.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Callie Grace Billiter of Chattaroy, W.Va.
He will be sadly missed by all knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, in the Trinity Harvest Church with Richard Holmes and Teddy Tackett officiating. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Pikeville. Arrangements were under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Melissa Lester
Melissa Lester, 47, of Logan, W.Va., died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at the Genesis Logan Center.
She was born in Man, W.Va., Nov. 9, 1965, the daughter of the late Joe and Mollie Cline Lester.
She was a homemaker.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her biological parents, Drewy Blankenship of Hampden, W.Va., and Vima Blankenship of Baisden, W.Va.; three brothers, Michael Blankenship of Lake, W.Va., Darrell Blankenship of Bruno, W.Va., Keith Blankenship of Baisden; and three sisters, Joann Ellis and Shirley Blankenship, both of Baisden, and Donna Sue Blankenship of Russell.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, in the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Diamond Carter officiating. Burial followed in the Lester Cemetery, Baisden Fork. Arrangements were under direction of Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W.Va.
Margaret Mahon
Margaret E. Mahon, 85, of Beech Creek, W.Va., died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born in Paintsville, July 20, 1927, the daughter of the late Lester Adkins and Mable Cooper Gearles.
She was a homemaker.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Everett Simpkins; one brother, Lester Adkins Jr.; one sister, Helen Irene Simpkins; and one granddaughter.
She is survived by her husband, Herve Mahon; two sons, L.E. Simpkins of Buskirk and Edward Lee Simpkins of Beech Creek; one daughter, Lona Elaine Baldwin of Hendersonville, Tenn.; one brother, J.C. Adkins of Wharncliff, W.Va.; three sisters, Vivian Miller of Bedford, Va., Betty Doss of Ohio and Louise Simpkins of Morehead; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, Nov. 27, in the Chambers Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gene Clemmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Herve and Margaret Mahon Cemetery, Beech Creek. Arrangements are under direction of Chambers Funeral Services of Matewan, W.Va.
Helen McPeeks
Helen Jean Mullins McPeeks, 77, of Diamond, Ohio, formerly of Martin, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at her home.
She was born in Martin, Dec. 13, 1934, the daughter of the late Jerry Roger Mullins and Grace Blackburn Mullins Spencer.
She retired as head cashier at Fazios and was a member of the Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Prentice McPeeks; and three brothers, Ray Mullins, Rodney King and Randy Spencer.
She is survived by one son, Prentice "Rusty" McPeeks Jr.; three daughters, Vicky Tackett, Betty "Sue" Kotch and Sandy Musick; four sisters, Dottie Weaver, Linda, Brenda and Debbie, all of Ohio; six grandchildren, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at noon Monday, Nov. 26, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with James Tackett officiating. Burial followed in the Tackett Family Cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Loretta Ratliff
Loretta Ratliff, 64, of Pikeville, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County, July 6, 1948, the daughter of the late Grant Ratliff and Dorothy Ratliff Ratliff Johnson.
She was retired, after 17-1/2 years as Mountain Water District clerk.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Timmy Ratliff, who died Nov. 21, 1992; and one brother, Grant Ratliff Jr.
She is survived by one brother, Jimmy Ralph Ratliff of Pikeville; and one sister, Linda Lou Walters of Pikeville.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Shawn Slone officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Franklin Sanson
Franklin D. Sanson, 76, of Williamson, W.Va., died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Majestic, Nov. 29, 1935, the son of the late Robert Sanson and Bertha Ferrell Sanson.
He worked for the Kentucky State Highway Department and the McCoy-Alma Coal Company before retiring from his job as a property manager in Arvada, Colo. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1955 to 1959, and was stationed in Alameda, Calif., and traveled to numerous ports in China and most of Southeast Asia. Most recently, he was a greeter at the South Williamson Wal-Mart.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, West Williamson, and also attended services at Matewan Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Butler Sanson.
He is survived by one daughter, June Sargent of San Francisco; one brother, Ernest Sanson of the Philippines; one sister, Helen Jean Blankenship of Majestic; and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Chambers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Butler officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements are under direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc. of Matewan, WV
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Loraine Skeens
Loraine Skeens, 82, of Belfry, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Belfry, Sept. 7, 1930, the daughter of the late Feldon and Bessie Murphy Layne.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Belfry.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Feldon Layne Jr.; and one sister, Charlene Hatfield.
She is survived by her husband, Oscar Skeens Jr.; one son, Freddie Keith McCoy of Belfry; one daughter, Belinda Williamson of Canada; one brother, Rudolph Layne of Belfry; one sister, Loretta Bevins of Belfry; three grandchildren, John Williamson, Isaac Williamson and Wendi Cook; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mark Helton and Brother Bob Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Christopher Staggs
Christopher Wayne "Gomer" Staggs, 35, of Lenore, W.Va., died Saturday, Nov. 24, at Williamson Memorial Hospital, Williamson, W.Va.
He was born in Gilford County, N.C., Dec. 6, 1976, the son of Ed and Linda Overcast Staggs of Ransom.
Chris was an emergency vehicle operator for STAT Ambulance and worked as a security guard for TMK Security at Williamson Memorial Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Helen Overcast.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Misty Carey Staggs; two children, Christopher Austin Staggs and Candace Dawn Staggs, both of the home; two brothers, Timothy Staggs of Blackberry City, W.Va., and Nathan Staggs
of Delbarton, W.Va.; one sister, Melinda Dean of Williamson; his paternal grandparents, William and Mabel Staggs of Ransom; and eight nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Williamson Fieldhouse, West Williamson, with the Rev. Ron Sanger officiating and with full EMS honors. Burial will follow in the Down Home Cemetery, Laurel Creek, Lenore. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Visitation is after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Willliamson Fieldhouse.
Betty Taylor
Betty Lou Funk Taylor, 70, of Hunts Branch, Feds Creek, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at her home.
She was born in Buchanan County, Va., June 18, 1942, the daughter of the late Ovis V. Funk and Bonnie Lee Funk.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William Joseph Kesterson, Leonard Ray Kesterson and Michael Dan Funk; and four sisters, Madge Marie Sheldon, Nadine Dudley, Beulah Hurley and Wilma Ann Bishop.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Willis Taylor; three sons, Michael G. Taylor of Phyllis, Kenneth W. Taylor of Hunts Branch and Gary D. Taylor of Feds Creek; one daughter, Rachel M. Hager of Pikeville; one brother, Paul R. Funk of Ivel; two sisters, Mary E. Anderson of Phyllis and Stella Williams of Belcher; and 15 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at noon Friday, Nov. 16, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Abshire, Eddie Dotson and Robert Coleman officiating. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
William Thacker
William Palmer Thacker, 51, of Sycamore, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Alexandria, Va., April 10, 1961, the son of Ruby Carol Childers Thacker and the late John L. Thacker.
He was a coal equipment operator.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mary Buchanan Thacker; four sons, William Thacker Jr., Thomas Thacker and Andrew Thacker, all of Ashcamp, and Johnathan Thacker of Elkhorn City; one brother, Ronnie Thacker of Kimper; two sisters, Josie Shears of Sycamore and Dorothy Bentley of Rockhouse; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, in the Poor Bottom Freewill Baptist Church with Richard Gibson and Terry Gibson officiating. Burial followed in the family cemetery, Sycamore. Arrangements were under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
