Danny Blanton
Danny Ray Blanton, 62, died at his home in Pikeville, on Dec. 3, 2012, after a long battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 29, 1950, in Pikeville, to William Randall Blanton and Ocie Young, he attended and graduated from Pikeville High School in 1968. Danny served in the United States Army until 1971, attaining the rank of sergeant. On April 19, 1978, he married
Harriet Jane Anderson, with whom he lived until the time of his death.
He was employed in the mining and construction industries and finished his career as a self-employed contractor until retiring in 2005.
Danny will be especially remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and ability to fix anything.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet Blanton of Pikeville; his mother, Ocie Young of Pikeville; a daughter, Anna Blanton of Winchester; three sons, David Blanton of Sheridan, Minn., Tom Blanton of Lexington and Tyler Blanton of Pikeville; two grandchildren, Connor Blanton and Carly Blanton, both of Lexington; and two sisters, Mary Durbin of Hamersville, Ohio, and Elizabeth Amburgey of Lebanon, Ohio.
Danny was preceded in death by his father, William Randall Blanton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4324 13th St., Ashland, KY 41102 or Appalachian Hospice Care Inc., 1414 South Mayo Trail, Pikeville, KY 41501.

James Compton
James Marion Compton, 91, of Collins Street, Pikeville, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born July 16, 1921, the son of the late James Madison Compton and Della Reynolds Compton.
He was retired and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Meadows Compton; one brother, Willie Lee Compton; and four sisters, Anna Charles, Nanna England, Dorothy Billiter and Martha Maples.
He is survived by one son, James Michael Compton; two sisters, Elizabeth Riddle and Marcella Huffman; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Nick England, Mike Hopson, Teddy Honaker, Floyd Compton and others officiating. Burial followed in the Compton Family Cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Ruth Edwards
Ruth Ann Sullivan Edwards, 59, of Mohawk, W.Va., died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at her home.
She was born in Mohawk, Oct. 21, 1953, the daughter of the late Wayne and Erma Hunt Sullivan Sr.
She was a homemaker and of the Regular Baptist faith.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Edwards; two brothers, Wayne Sullivan Jr. and Kermit Sullivan; and one sister, Ellen Birchfield.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Harry Arnold Edwards; one brother, Thomas Duey Sullivan of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; one sister, June Lester of Wheaton, Md.; and one granddaughter, Heather Genette Edwards of Chapmanville, W.Va.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Horsecreek Church of the Living God with the Rev. Wayne Kennedy and the Rev. Ermine Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Sullivan Cemetery, Mohawk. Arrangements are under direction of Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W.Va.
Visitation is at the church from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
Kenneth Gannon
Kenneth Lee Gannon, 54, of Goody, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Williamson, W.Va., Oct. 11, 1958, the son of Phyllis Perkins Gannon of Delbarton, W.Va., and the late George W. Gannon.
He was a former coal miner and the owner of South Williamson Cab Company.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior Gannon and Franklin D. Gannon; and two sisters, Audrey Ross and Louise Runyon.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, James Gannon of Oak Hill, Ohio, Kenneth Gannon II, B.J. Gannon Cordle, Nikki Short, Jessica Gannon, Shane Gannon and Austin Gannon, all of Belfry; four brothers, Billy Gannon and George Gannon, both of Oak Hill, James Gannon of Fort Gay, W.Va., and Larry Gannon of Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Helen Wolfe of Ashland, Linda Ratcliff and Nellie Hannah of Williamson,W.Va.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Ronnie Griffey
Ronnie Lee Griffey, 75, of Phelps, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at St. John's Hospital, Warren, Mich.
He was born in Phelps, May 29, 1937, the son of the late Lundy Griffey and Mary Gladys Coleman Griffey.
He was a retired coal miner formerly employed by Chisholm Coal, a member of United Mine Workers of America, a U.S. Army veteran, a volunteer Pike County deputy, and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy Carroll Meadows Griffey; two sons, Ricky Griffey of Emmett, Mich., and Ronnie Lee Griffey Jr. of Warren; two daughters, Penni Smith of Warren and Mary Gladys Sikorski of Armada, Mich.; one brother, Billy Griffey; two sisters, Mary Lou Breeding and Joyce Childress; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the Phelps Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Meadows and the Rev. Daryl Wolford officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery, Calloway Branch of Phelps. Arrangements are under direction of Phelps Funeral Services.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday with special services at 7.
Shular Hurd
Shular Jackson Hurd, 80, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Boyd Hurd.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Edgar McKinney officiating. Burial followed in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel. Arrangements were under direction of Hall Funeral Home of Martin.
Carolyn McCoy
Carolyn Kay McCoy, 60, of Matewan, W.Va., died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at her home.
She was born in Williamson, W.Va., Feb. 28, 1952, the daughter of the late Joseph and Maxine McCoy.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her ex-husband, Wayne McCoy; two sons, Willie Wayne McCoy of Matewan and Mickey McCoy of Michigan; one daughter, Lisa Michelle Mahon of Matewan; two brothers, Chester McCoy and Bobby Joe McCoy; one sister, Bernadine McCoy; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 7, in the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in the Canterbury Cemetery, Beech Creek, W.Va. Arrangements are under direction of Chafin Funeral Home of Delbarton, W.Va.
Visitation is Friday, from 10 a.m. until time for the service.
Helen McPeeks
Helen Jean Mullins McPeeks, 77, of Diamond, Ohio, formerly of Martin, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at her home.
She was born in Martin, Dec. 13, 1934, the daughter of the late Jerry Roger Mullins and Grace Blackburn Mullins Spencer.
She retired as head cashier at Fazios and was of the Baptist faith.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Prentice McPeeks; and three brothers, Ray Mullins, Rodney King and Randy Spencer.
She is survived by one son, Prentice "Rusty" McPeeks Jr.; three daughters, Vicky Tackett, Betty "Sue" Kotch and Sandy Musick; one brother, Jerry "Roger" Mullins of Virgie; four sisters, Dottie Weaver, Linda, Brenda and Debbie, all of Ohio; six grandchildren, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at noon Monday, Nov. 26, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with James Tackett officiating. Burial followed in the Tackett Family Cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Linda Nunley
Linda Sue Nunley, 64, of Elkhorn City, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County, Feb. 22, 1948, the daughter of the late Elmer Bartley and Effie Potter Bartley.
She was a waitress.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Mullins; and one sister, Sheila Rowe.
She is survived by two sons, Tony Mullins of Elkhorn Creek and Michael Mullins of Marrowbone; one brother, Daryl Bartley of Banner; three sisters, Pamela Bartley of Elkhorn Creek, Vickie Mullins of Elkhorn City and Barbara Bailey of Hueysville; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Allen Gibson and Tommy England officiating. Burial followed in the Bartley Family Cemetery, Ashcamp. Arrangements were under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Kenneth Osborne
Kenneth Bernard Osborne, 81, of Elswick Branch, Jonancy, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Pike County, Aug. 23, 1931, the son of the late Daniel Osborne and Leona Greer Osborne.
He was retired from Ford Motor Company and was a member of Bethel Freewill Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer Eugene Osborne.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Baker Osborne; four sons, William Osborne, Donald Osborne, Sean Pannell and Jeremy Pannell; three daughters, Anita Bryan, Vicki DeBusk and Jacqueline Osborne; two brothers, Jack Osborne and Daniel Osborne Jr.; two sisters, Pattie Hamilton and Jessie Tipper; 20 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 7, in the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church with Billy Akers, Dolph Kelly and Butler Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Osborne Family Cemetery, Jonancy. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is at the church after 6 p.m. Wednesday with special services nightly at 7.
