Josephine Branham
Josephine C. Branham, 78, of Honaker, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Branham.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Tommy Spears officiating. Burial will follow in the Clark Cemetery, Honaker. Arrangements are under direction of Hall Funeral Home of Martin.
Visitation is after 7 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday, with special services nightly at 7.
James Layne
James "Pee Wee" Layne, 88, of Huddy, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Williamson, W.Va., May 3, 1924, the son of the late Dave and Peggy Mounts Layne.
He was a retired carman for the N&S Railroad, a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belfry for 60 years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters and six brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Grubb Layne; two sons, David Layne of Bellevue, Ohio, and Paul Layne of Rogersville, Tenn.; two daughters, Linda Carter of Valdosta, Ga., and Liz Burgett of Turkey Creek; one brother, Mont Layne of South Bend, Ind.; eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Norman and Bro. Mark Helton officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
Terri Reed
Terri Diane Henson Reed, 54, of Toler, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County, Oct. 21, 1958, the daughter of Edsel Henson Jr. of Sarasota, Fla., and the late Loretta Blackburn Henson.
She was a homemaker, a former employee of Wal-Mart and a member of the Belfry United Methodist Church.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Paul Douglas Reed; one son, Jonathan "J.P." Reed of Toler; one daughter, Traci Suzanne Reed of Toler; and one brother, Steven (Libby) Henson of Broken Arrow, Okla.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in the Reed Cemetery, Turkey Creek. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Ellsworth Simpson
Ellsworth Simpson, 93, of Justice, W.Va., died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012.
He was born in Man, W.Va., Aug. 3, 1919, the son of the late James Columbus and Mary Toler Simpson.
He was a retired coal miner, having worked in the mines 38 years, and was a member of United Mine Workers of America.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vannie Trent Simpson; one daughter, Carol Lester; four stepchildren, June Smith, Bernice Riffe, Franklin D. Smith and Charles Edward Smith; three brothers, Sid Simpson, Doyle Simpson and James Simpson; and one sister, Kathern Sammons.
He is survived by one brother, Orville Simpson; one sister, Helen Aldredge of Tampa, Fla.; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, W.VA. Arrangements are under direction of Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W.Va.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, in the funeral home chapel.
Michael Sturgill
Michael Dallas Sturgill, 56, of Naugatuck, W.Va., died Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at his home.
He was born in South Williamson, Nov. 26, 1956, the son of the late Dallas and Jaree Evans Sturgill.
He was employed by the Mingo County CAP as a maintenance worker.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in the Little Dove United Baptist Church, Belo, W.Va. Arrangements are under direction of Chafin Funeral Home of Delbarton, W.Va.
Willis Tackett
Willis Tackett, 81, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Logan, W.Va., July 9, 1931, the son of the late Sollie and Callie Robinson Tackett.
He was a disabled laborer.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters, Homer Tackett, Orville Tackett, Merlin Tackett, William Tackett, Marvin Tackett, Clarence Tackett, Howard Tackett, Copley Tackett, Pearl Tackett, Myrtle Goble, Beartha Harrington and Berley Tackett.
He is survived by one son, Brian Tackett of Tram; two daughters, Callie Fought of Harold and Vossie Sabo of Chapmanville, W.Va.; one sister, Flora Riley of Harold; and one grandchild, Amber Nicole Sabo.
Funeral services were held at noon Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Nelson Frazier Funeral Home Chapel with Clyde McKinney officiating. Burial followed in the Ike Roberts Cemetery, Grethel. Arrangements were under direction of Nelson Frazier Funeral Home of Martin.
Garrett Williamson
William "Garrett" Williamson, 75, of Justiceville Hill, Pikeville, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County, June 9, 1937, the son of the late Lon Williamson and Lula Smith Williamson.
He was a coal miner and a member of the Upper Grapevine Church of Christ.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Ann Ward Williamson; four brothers, Kermit Williamson, T.J. Williamson, Jackie Lee Williamson and Corbet Williamson; and one sister, Ima Jean Williamson.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia L. Williamson; 11 children, Danny Williamson (Ava), Kelly Williamson (Donna), Bobby Williamson (Missy), Douglas Williamson (Betty), Amanda Williamson and Devin Williamson, all of Kimper, Jimmy Dewayne Ratliff of Hurricane, George Christopher Ratliff of Elkhorn City, Sherry Willson (Bruce) Goldsboro, N.C., Saundra Roberts of Pikeville and Eugina Lee Martin of Dayton, Ohio; eight siblings, Denvil Williamson and James Noah Williamson, both of Wilmington, N.C., Ronnie Williamson, Randal Williamson, Bruce Williamson and Sadie Coleman, all of Kimper, Lauratta Elswick of Lexington, Phyllis Bevins of Pikeville, Shelia Howard of Phelps; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Abshire, Jack Horne and Joe Horne officiating. Burial will follow in the Ward Cemetery, Prichard Fork. Arrangements are under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday.
Betty Wolford
Betty Ruth Wolford, 62, of Ransom, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center, Phelps.
She was born in Pike County, Feb. 20, 1950, the daughter of the late Earl McKinley and Rebecca Charles Tilley.
She was a homemaker and of the Assemblies of God faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Wolford; one son, Ronald Scott Wolford; and one daughter, Rhonda Sue Caudill.
She is survived by two sons, Mark Edward Wolford and David Paul Wolford, both of McVeigh; one daughter, Kathy Jean Wolford of Ransom; two brothers, Jimmy Tiller of Dansville, Ga., and Billy Slone of Atlanta; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 1, in the Hatfield Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry Joe Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in the Alley Cemetery, McCarr. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, with special services at 7.
Adam Damron
Adam G. Damron, 69, of Winchester, husband of Lena G. May Damron, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at his home, following a brief illness.
A native of Pike County, he was born March 21, 1943, the son of the late Willie and Hazel R. Damron.
He was a graduate of Elkhorn City High School. He was retired from Rockwell International and recently retired from the Clark County Board of Education Transportation Dept. Mr. Damron drove Bus #44 for the Clark County Public School System. He enjoyed driving his bus and mentoring the kids who rode it.
He was a car enthusiast, expert mechanic, carpenter, all-around handyman who frequently gave of his time to help others. He was a former official with the Kentucky High School Athletic Association and a former umpire for the Winchester Little League.
Mr. Damron was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and attended First Baptist Church, E. Lexington Avenue.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Willie Jr. Damron.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by two daughters, Beverly (Andy) Estes and Bobbi Jo (Barry) Baber, both of Winchester; and four grandchildren, Justin Adam Estes, Andrew Dalton Estes, Abbigail Reese Baber and Addison Nicole Baber, all of Winchester.
The family would like to thank Pam Woosley and the staff of Hospice East, Dr. Rachel Harper, Karen Mulholland and Dr. William Walton for their care of Mr. Damron during his illness.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under direction of Scobee Funeral Home of Winchester.

Elizabeth Rowe
Maude "Elizabeth" Rowe, 92, of Bent Branch, Pikeville, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born April 20, 1920, the daughter of the late G.C. Bevins and Anise Harris Bevins.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Meta Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald M. Rowe; one son, Don Ed Rowe; two brothers, Tom Bevins and Ollie Bevins; and one sister, Rebecca Hopkins.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth (Mrs. Mike) Ewers of Meta; four grandchildren, Billy Paul, John Ewers, Becky Blair and Kim Laird; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Staggs officiating. Burial followed in the Bent Branch Cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
