William Smith
William Wade Smith, 81 of Canada, died Wednesday night, Dec. 5, 2012, at his home after a lingering illness.
He was born Dec. 28, 1930, at Stone, the son of the late Willie and Vada Chapman Smith.
Wade was retired from Eastern Coal Corp., a member of the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Arminda Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Sue Smith of Canada; two sons, David Harris of Canada, William Wade “Turtle” Smith of Canada; three daughters Karen Sue James of Huddy, Cynthia Thompson of Newport Center, Vt., and Diana Johnson of Lexington Park, Md.; a brother, Franklin D. “Roosevelt” Smith of Winnabow, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church with John Jacobs, David Allen Thacker, Randal Thornsbury, Mike Elswick, David Jr. Coleman, Robbie Worrix and Ricky Worrix officiating. Burial will follow in the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, Ransom. Belfry Chapter #141 DAV will conduct military graveside services.
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with special services both nights at 7 p.m.
R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry is in charge of arrangements.
Juanita Terry
Juanita Hunter Sweeney Terry, 75, of Pikeville, died Wednesday Dec. 5, 2012 at her residence.
she was born May 11, 1937, in Pikeville, the daughter of the late Wallen Appleby and the late Hazel Layne.
She was a secretary at the Kentucky Department of Transportation and a member of the Church of God M.P.G. of T.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Jean.
She is survived by three sons, James Thomas (Victoria) Hunter of Palm Bay Fla., Kenneth Eugene Hunter of Ocala, Fla., James Robert (Lucy) Sweeney of Lexington; three daughters, Tina Terry of Pikeville, Carol Leslie Hunter of Pikeville and Cathy Lynn (Mohammed) Shhadeh of Indianapolis, Ind.; three brothers, Gary (Carolyn) Taylor of Wheelwright, Kenneth (Charlotte) Armour of Indianapolis, Ind., Michael (Sharonda) Armour of Akron, Ohio and one sister, Lisa (Hooshang) Monopour of Lexington; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday Dec. 9 at J.W. Call Funeral Home with Gene Layne and Michael Armour officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
Visitation is after 6 p.m Friday with services at 7 p.m and and all day Saturday.
Arrangements are under the direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home.
Kara Vance
Kara Ann Thompson Vance, 32, of Williamson, W.Va., died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at her home.
She was born in Louisa, Dec. 21, 1979, the daughter of Gary and Miki Little Thompson.
She had a portrait studio, Kara Vance Photography, and was a member of Professional Photographers of America. She ran the family-owned Lil Pie Shop in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., before returning home to Williamson in 2005, and was also vice president of Miki Little Gas Co.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mike and Billie Little; and her grandfather, Roby Thompson.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Sam Vance; one daughter, Darby Jane Vance; one sister, Lauren Thompson; and her grandmother, Mary Thompson.
A celebration of her life was held at noon Thursday, Dec. 6, in the First Presbyterian Church, Williamson.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the church.
Mabel Hopkins
Mabel Compton Hopkins, 91, of Little Creek, died Wednesday Dec. 12, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Yeager, the daughter of Grady and Mamie Damron Compton.
She was a homemaker and a member of Energyville Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Hopkins; three sons, Bobby Glen Hopkins, Teddy Wayne Hopkins, George Dewey Hopkins; five brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by three sons, Arnold Eugene (Helen) Hopkins of Glendale, Az., Charles Edward (Linda) Hopkins of Virgie, Holly Randall (Lisa) Hopkins of Holiday, Fla.; two daughters, Janet Faye Newsome of Pikeville, Carolyn, Kay (Barry) Little, of Virgie; 19 grandchildren; and several great and great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lucas and Son Funeral HOme. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m.

Janice Robinson
Janice Robinson, 72, of Left Fork of Caney died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at her home.

Vicki Sword, 57, of Turkey Pen of Indian Creek, died Dec. 12, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.

Milton Crockett
Milton Crockett, 51, of Matewan, W.Va., died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at his home.
Fuenral services will be held Monday, at 1 p.m. at Chambers Funeral Services Chapel with Franklin Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, W.Va.
Visitation is Monday at noon until time of service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services of Matewan.
Ollie Gibson
Ollie S. Gibson, 89, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Oakford, Ind.
She was born July 30, 1923, in Pike County, the daughter of the late Thomas C. and Polly Ann Maynard Scott.
She was a member of the Piso Freewill Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She earned a B.S. degree in elementary education from Pikeville College and taught in the Pike County School System from 1953 to 1983.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Gibson; a son, Norman Eugene Gibson; a granddaughter, Barbara Lynn Gibson; a sister, Hester Lowe; and brothers Harmon Scott and Talmage Scott.
She is survived by a daughter, Ramona Illene Williamson, of Oakford; and four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 17, at Piso Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Maynard and Runyon Cemetery at Piso.
Visitation will be held 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Community Funeral Home, Zebulon.
Arrangements are under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
Judith Adkins
Judith Adkins, 64, of Pikeville, died Dec. 16, 2012.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1948, to the late Estill Sadler and Betty Georgene Stambaugh Sadler.
Judith is survived by her husband John Lewis Adkins; one son Kenneth Douglas Fleming of Pikeville; three Daughters Pamela Smith, Laura Lynn Fleming, Shawna Kay Brumheller and Jamie Lynn Brumheller all of Pikeville; one sister Donna Waddell of Paintsville Kentucky; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
During her illness Musgrave gave passionate and countless hours of care, alone with the staff at Pikeville Medical Center. At the end hospice was her choice of care. All these caretakers gave such wonderful care.
She will be missed by all whom knew and loved her.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Claude and Denice Hopkins officiating. Burial followed at the Mac Adkins Family Cemetery at Hurricane Creek.
Arrangements are under the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Barbara Blevins
Barbara Jean Gibson Blevins, 59, of Tram, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Floyd County, Jan. 5, 1953, the daughter of the late Henry Dallas and Lona Blevins Gibson.
She was a retired caregiver and a member of the Church of God on Prophecy, Tram.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy Gibson, Forrest Gibson and Clyde Blevins.
She is survived by her husband, Jesse Blevins; one daughter, Sherrie Crum of Tram; four sisters, Geneva "Tee" Walker, Iva Lee Taylor, Bulah Slone and Barbara Johnson, all of Tram; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the Nelson Frazier Funeral Home Chapel with Atha Johnson and Lester Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Blevins-Crum Cemetery, Tram. Arrangements were under direction of Nelson Frazier Funeral Home of Martin.
