“Bill” Stratton
Billie “Bill” Stratton, 82, of Delbarton, W. Va., died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Chafin Funeral Home with Elder Jimmy Maynard officiating. Burial followed in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy. Arrangements were under the direction of the Chafin Funeral Home of Delbarton.
Payton Wayne Sellards
Payton Wayne Sellards, newborn son of Brittany Sellards, of Regina, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, at the Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pikeville, September 28, 2016.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Dean Sellards.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Nichols Adkins Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
David Ithamar Lynch
David Ithamar Lynch was of Irish and English descent, born on January 10, 1958. David graduated from Riverview Community High School in 1976, attended Wayne County Community College and Wayne State University.
David lived in Atlanta, Georgia, Chicago, Illinois, Boston, Massachusetts, Betsy Layne, Kentucky, and was a resident of Riverview, Michigan at the time of his passing on October 4, 2016.
As a professional sound engineer, David worked on Ronnie Earl’s Grammy Award Winning album, as well as many nationally and internationally recognized musicians, most notably John Lee Hooker and Dr. John. Of all of his sound engineering achievements, his favorite position was working at Detroit World Outreach Church in Detroit, Michigan, for Pastor Jack Wallace.
After completing Blackstone’s Law School paralegal certification program, David worked in both Michigan and Kentucky for several prominent attorneys.
In the Detroit Metro area, David was a Director of Instruction at Experience Senior Power Maria Madeline Project, Inc., where he taught older adults basic and intermediate computer skills, using an easy step-by-step tutorial which he authored and created.
As a below the knee amputee, he decided that that would never be an excuse. He always said that he did more with his life after losing a leg, not bragging, just wanted to be an example for others. He became an ACE certified personal trainer, receiving training as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s cutting-edge Health Coach Training Program.
David was a best-selling author of The Ultimate Wellness Principle: Seven Steps to a Healthy Age Resistant Body After 40!; The Well-being Principle a guide to total Health and Well-being in all areas of your life; and The Weight Loss Mindset Shift.
He graduated, with Honors, from the National Academy for Health & Fitness and was a Doctor of Divinity and Spiritual Counselor.
David was a gentle and kindhearted man, who was a devoted son, a loving and protective brother, and a loving uncle. He is missed and loved beyond our ability to express with words.
David is predeceased in death by his father, David Vaughn Lynch from Betsy Layne, Kentucky. He is survived by his beloved mother, Beatrice Sturgill Lynch from Pikeville, Kentucky, and his sisters, Debra Ann King, and Dinah (Nancy) Lynch, and his niece, Kara (Kyle) Steffen.
Visitation and funeral will neb at Lucas and SonFuneral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sturgill Family Cemetery at Penhook, Harold.
Monecha “Neeka” Coleman
Monecha “Neeka” Coleman, 56, of Regina, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 14, 1960, in Pikeville, the daughter of the late Arnold E. and Lucille Wells Coleman. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Coleman.
She is survived by two brothers, Arnold “Quincy” Coleman of Elkhorn City and Dwight Coleman (Burita Thacker) of Ashcamp; half brother, Jessie Morris (Kay) of Lexington; two sisters, Sharon Potter (David) of Forest City, N. Car. and Patricia Robinette (Eddie) of Regina; and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m.Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Chris Bartley and Gary Hall officiating. Burial followed at the Coleman Cemetery at Wolfpit. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc. of Elkhorn City.
Ras Raymond “Bill” Sellards
Ras Raymond “Bill” Sellards, 80, of Pinsonfork, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at his home.
He was born at Turkey Creek, March 10, 1936, the son of the late Tom and Mary Thompson Sellards.
He was a retired truck driver for General Electric, with 30 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Ricky Sellards; one daughter, Mary Annette Spielberger; three brothers, Dallas, Thomas, and Charlie Sellards; and four sisters, Duley Platt, Dorothy Sellards, Gladys Price, and Victoria Sellards.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Sue Runyon Sellards of Pinsonfork; sons, Raymond Lee Sellards (Cathy) of Ariz. and Ronald Ace Sellards (Naomi) of Columbia Station, Ohio; daughter, Nell Sue Cornell (Darrell) of Grafton, Ohio; brother, John Sellards (Rose) of Huntington, W. Va.; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with James Thacker and James Justice officiating. Burial will follow in the Don Runyon Cemetery at Pinsonfork, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation is from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, with special services at 7, with James Thacker and the United Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Dianna Lynn Justice
Dianna Lynn Justice, 57, of Douglas Parkway, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at her residence.
She was born in Pike County, April 8, 1959, the daughter of the late James Palmer and Hazel Louise Martin Justice.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her ex-husband and best friend, Larry McCown; two brothers, Gary Palmer Justice (Teresa) and Timothy Paul Justice, all of Powells Creek; two sisters, Brenda Kay Davis (Jim) of Cosby, Tenn. and Janet Rene Epling (Timmy) of Dandridge, Tenn.; and ten grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Tim Coleman and Joey Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the R.H. Ratliff Cemetery at Shelbiana.
Visitation is all day Friday, with services at 7. Arrangements are under the direction of the Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
Flora Smith
Flora Smith, 97, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at Tuscany Gardens in Pataskala, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, with Paris Blackburn and John Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Arrangements are under the direction of the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Ernest James “Toby” Akers, Sr.
Ernest James “Toby” Akers, Sr., 63, of Ivel, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, at his residence.
He was born in Pikeville, June 3, 1953, the son of the late John Curtis and Christine Elam Akers.
He was a Federal Mine Inspector and a member of the VFW.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Tobie Jo Akers; and two brothers, Riley Carl Akers and William Rogers Akers.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Joan Little Akers of Ivel; one son, Ernest James Akers, Jr. of Regina; one daughter, Tobi Beth Akers of Shelbiana; two brothers, Johnny Lee Akers (Bea) of Flaherty and Andy Blake Akers of Taylorsville; four sisters, Beatrice Darlene Martin (Johnny) of Lawrence, Vera jo Kisre (Ronnie) of Flaherty, Ellen Lavern Anderson (Ricky) of Lexington, and Debra Denise Faevel of Hardin County; and six grandchildren, Zachary Tyler Clevinger, Eden Chevelle Little-Rose, Alyssa Grace Akers, Annabella Jolene Akers, Ernest James “E.J.” Akers, III, and Maleah Joella Rae Lange.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2016 at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Gibson and John Akers officiating. DAV services were conducted by Elkhorn City Chapter #140. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc. of Elkhorn City.
Virginia E. Dotson Belcher
Virginia E. Dotson Belcher, 78, of Grassy Creek, Jamboree, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born at Feds Creek, July 13, 1938.
She was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith.
Virginia has finally found her “Peace in the Valley” with her husband, Thomas J. Belcher; parents, Carroll and Grace Dotson; and sisters, Emma Dotson and Lolita Horn.
She is survived by 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 11 children she loved dearly, Judy, Susan, Johnny (Para), Mossie (David Goodin), Jack, Jennifer, Thomas Paul, Billy Ray (Lori), Tabitha, Sally, and Elmer; brother, Jimmy Dotson; and two sisters:, Ann Kidder (David) and Laurie Swiney (Roger).
Funeral services will be held at 11a.m.Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at the Jones & West Funeral Home at Phelps, with Reverend Odis Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in the Belcher-Tolliver Cemetery at Grassy Creek at Jamboree. Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps.
She will be sadly missed. May she rest in God’s arms.
Robert Eugene Lee
Robert Eugene Lee, 86, of Draffin, died Saturday, Oct. 01, 2016, at his residence.
He was born at Draffin, March 08, 1930, the son of the late Willie “Bill” and Pearl Senter Lee.
He was retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation, with 27 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Oscar G. Stepp; one sister-in-law, Jean Stepp; and one brother-in-law, Bobby G. Caudill.
He is survived by his wife, Doris J. May Lee of Draffin; one son, Gary Lee (Marsha) of Lexington; two sisters, Emalene Lee of Draffin and Mary Caudill of Huntsville, Ohio; two grandsons, John and Jacob Lee of Lexington; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 04, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in Elkhorn City, with Jimmy Dale Sanders, Steve Coleman, and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson Cemetery at Draffin. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc. of Elkhorn City.
Geoffery Keith Salyer
Geoffery Keith Salyer, 89, of Abingdon, Va., died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born at Praise, Ky., June 11, 1927, the son of the late Willie Logan and Cora Sloan Salyer.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Potter Salyer; and five siblings, Ample Smith, Paulette Denton, Hollis Salyer, Winifred Salyer, and Tene Kendrick.
He was a WWII Army veteran, worked as a coal miner, was a member of the Elkhorn city Church of Christ, and a member of the Elkhorn City DAV Chapter #140.
He is survived by his son, Ed Salyer(Denise) Salyer of Columbia, S.Car.; one daughter, Jeffery Musick (Jerry) of Abingdon, Va.; one sister, Betty Moore of Ervin, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Will Musick, Dianna Jones, Lauren Rivers, and Thomas Salyer; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Jones and London Rivers; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Elkhorn City Church of Christ with Jim Ed Belcher and Frank Crum officiating. Burial followed at Dow Brooks Cemetery at Draffin. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
