Shelby Jean Johnson
Shelby Jean Johnson, 77, of Weeksbury, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at the Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born on March 26, 1939, the daughter of the late Curt Jones and the late Mildred Akers Jones Johnson.
She was a member of the Weeksbury Church of Christ, a retired Dietary Clerk for Pikeville Medical and had also worked as a teacher’s aide in the Floyd County school system.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Jones.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Johnson; one son, Randall Johnson (Cathy) of Lexington; one brother; Marvin Jones of Florida; one sister, Anna Ruth Thornsbury (Garland) of Weeksbury; three grandchildren, Josh Johnson (Monica), Ryan Johnson and Blair Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at the Weeksbury Church of Christ with John Burke, Eddie Hughes and Preacher Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in the Poplar Grove Cemetery at Weeksbury.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Church with nightly services beginning at 7. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Joy Lester
Joy Lester, 87, of Pinsonfork, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at her residence.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy with Dwayne Yates officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Linda Lowe
Linda Lowe, 68, of Nicholasville, formerly of Elkhorn City, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2016.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Pikeville. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc. of Elkhorn City.
Martha Jane McCoy
Martha Jane McCoy, 89, of Morehead, formerly of Belfry, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Werntz officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy. Arrangements are under the direction of the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
“Eddie” Mullins
Edward Keith “Eddie” Mullins
Edward Keith “Eddie” Mullins, 55, of Taylorville, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, in Louisville.
He was born in Boston, Mass., Feb. 8, 1961, the son of John L. Mullins and the late Francis Ruth Banks Mullins.
He was a carpenter.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his step-mother, Oma Jean Mullins; one son, Michael Mullins Wentworth; one brother, John L. Mullins Jr.; two grandchildren; and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Barry Lucas and Mike Justice officiating. Burial will follow in the McRoberts Cemetery at McRoberts. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
David Stewart
David Stewart, 58, of Elkhorn City, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc. of Elkhorn City.
Lula Tackett Bryant
Lula Tackett Bryant, 90, of Pikeville, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at the Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born at Virgie, October 16, 1925, the daughter of the late Andrew and Virgie Tackett Tackett.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker and a long time member of the Pikeville Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed her many friends she had made while being a resident at Cedar Creek Assisted Living.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard (Buster) Bryant; one brother, Lonnie Tackett; and three sisters, Pearl Tackett, Ollie Newsome, and Dixie Tackett.
She is survived by her loving children, three sons, Larry Bryant (Denise) of Louisville, Gregory Bryant (Terri) of Winchester, and Ronald Bryant (Barbara) of Pikeville; two grandsons, James Bryant (Missy) Bry Tracy Bryant (Carol); one granddaughter, Delena Johnson (Chris); and three great-grandchildren, Christy Johnson, Josh Bryant and Mara Bryant.
Visitation was held from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Thacker Memorial Chapel. Burial followed at the Amil Little Cemetery at Virgie. Arrangements were under the direction of the Thacker Funeral Home of Pikeville.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Betty Sue “Grams” Tibbs
It is with grief in our hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Sue “Grams” Tibbs. She died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born in Salyersville, March 9, 1938, a daughter of the late Elvin and Ella Hampton.
She was a naturally born business woman and caregiver. Her life was full of love for her family until her very last moments on earth. She was preceded in death by her husband Estill Lee “Peanut” Tibbs; two of her beloved daughters, Sandra England and Carla Foote; one sister, Virgie Hinkle; and two brothers, William Vanover and Kelly “Dickie” Vanover.
She is survived by three children, Deana Ramos, Karen Wright, and Kenneth England; three sisters, Kimberly, Bonnie, and Vickie; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation services will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. October 1, 2106, at the J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Ratliff Cemetery at Coal Run. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Nancy Jane Blackburn Wood
Nancy Jane Blackburn Wood, 100, of Louisville, formerly of Pikeville, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016.
She was born March 25, 1916, the daughter of the late Bob and Hannah Damron Blackburn.
She previously worked in food services in the Jackson, Ohio School System and was a member of Antioch Old Regular Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Wood; brothers, Ralph, Bobby, and Jim Blackburn; sister, Alma Miller; and brother-in-law, Arnold Lawson.
She is survived by her sisters, Louise Addington (Karrel), Ruby McQuary(Royce), and Ruth Lawson; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Lucas and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Potter Cemetery.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
London Lindbergh Napier
London Lindbergh Napier, 83, of Sookeys Creek, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at his residence.
He was born in Floyd County, Aug. 30, 1933, the son of the late Calloway Burns “CB” and Emma Ousley Napier.
He retired from Bellsouth, where he spent 41 years as a framer, electronics tech, supervisor and foreman. He served in the Navy as a radar tech on HK Perry Radar Ship 6th Fleet, was a member of Communication Workers of America and a member of the Chloe Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Gina Leigh Napier; and one brother, Carlos Napier.
He is survived by his wife, Sada Little Napier; two sons, Gregory Lin Napier (Kristin) and William Edward Napier (Rebecca); one daughter, Katrina Marie Stapleton (Billy); one sister, Queen Helena Rosetta Redmond; three brothers, Washington Edward Napier, Canton Livingston Napier and Charles Napier; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Randy May and Michael Tackett officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnson Memorial Gardens, Pikeville.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Saturday in the chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Fona Tibbs
Fona Tibbs, 74, of Cushaw, Rd., Pikeville, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at the Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County, Aug. 18, 1942, the daughter of the late Henry and Vernie Justice Weddington.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Holiness Church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Jeanette Weddington; five brothers, W.M. Henry Weddington, Walter Weddington, George Weddington, George Donald Weddington and Bobby Gene Weddington; and one sister, Karis Andrea Weddington.
She is survived by her husband, James Tibbs of Pikeville; two brothers, Timothy Ivan Weddington of Stone Coal and Rodulf Weddington of Calif.; and two sisters, Vickie White of Stone Coal and Mary Jo (Brandi )Lawrence of Calif.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Randy Parson officiating. Burial will follow in the Weddington Cemetery at Stone Coal.
Visitation is all day Saturday, with services at 7. Arrangements are under the direction of the Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
