Jacqueline “Granny” Gray Worrix

Jacqueline “Granny” Gray Worrix, 84, of Pikeville, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at her residence.

She was born at Weeksbury, Dec. 13, 1931, the daughter of the late Richard and Daisy Compton Gray.

She was a nurse aide, homemaker and a member of the Louisa Primitive Baptist Church since 1967.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Worrix Sr.; one son, Ronnie B. Worrix; one sister, Emma Grace Brewer; four brothers, James Gray, Chester Gray, Richard “Elmer” Gray and Richard Lee Gray; and one grandson, James Elswick.

She is survived by two daughters, Diana R. Elswick (Tommy) and Teresa E. Anthony (Jim) both of Pikeville; three sons, Robert B. Worrix Jr. (Joyce) of Pikeville, Ricky B. Worrix (Pam) of Harold and Rodney B. Worrix (Cristal) of Richmond; 12 grandchildren, Brandon Smallwood (Melanie), Aaron Smallwood, Jeremiah Elswick (Meredith), Shannon Worrix, Jamie Anthony (Tonya), Bobbie Worrix (Andrea), Sunshine Anthony, Beth Coleman (Derek), Jason Worrix (Natalie), Nick Worrix, Ryan Worrix and Brady Worrix; and 14 great-grandchildren, Austin Chapman, Adrian Anthony, Hayden Smallwood, Grace Chapman, Brenden Anthony, Hannah Anthony, Adam Coleman, Isaac Smallwood, Will Coleman, Landon Smallwood, Lilly Anthony, Camden Worrix, Miah Elswick and Merebeth Elswick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with David Allen Thacker and Primitive Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe.

Visitation is all day Saturday, with services at 7. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her memory to the Louisa Primitive Baptist Church c/o Ricky Worrix, 201 Lt. Pen Hook, Harold, 41635.

Christopher Shaun Blankenship

Christopher Shaun Blankenship, 37, of Williamson, W.Va., died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at his residence.

He was born in Williamson, W. Va., Oct. 13, 1978, the son of the late Curtis and Magalene Lambert Blankenship.

Shaun’s favorite pastime was being with his family and friends, whom he loved very much. He also enjoyed fishing, and listening to his music.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis, Brian Keith, and Michael Paul Blankenship; cousin, Daniel Jo Dotson; and his grandparents, Hurshel and Gladys Lambert.

He is survived by one daughter, Brooklyn Blankenship of Matewan, W.Va.; one son, Nathan Kapke of Benton, Tenn.; two brothers, Steven Blankenship of West Williamson, W.Va., and Sanford Blankenship of Williamson, W. Va.; and a host of aunts, uncles, family and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Faith Mission Church, McCarr, with Reverend Jimmy Fields officiating. Burial will follow at the Buskirk Cemetery, Radio Hill with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps.

London “Lin” Napier

London “Lin” Napier, 83, of Sookeys Creek, died Thursday, Sept. 8 at his home.

Arrangements were incomplete as of press time Thursday and will be announced by the Lucas and Son Funeral Home.

Elwood Parker

Elwood Parker, 77 of Raccoon, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pike County, Oct. 13, 1938, the son of the l ate Bruce and Gertrude Smith Parker.

He was a coal miner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Parker and Lonnie Parker.

He is survived by his wife, Fern Presley Parker of Raccoon; four sons, Richard Parker of Millard, Chris Justice (Beverly) of Raccoon, Keith Justice (Melanie) of Coal Run and Greg Justice (Christine) of Raccoon; one daughter, DeeAnn Justice of Raccoon; two brothers, Ronnie Parker of Cowpen Rd. and Roger Dale Parker of West Liberty; one sister, Boni (Roger) Maynard of Raccoon; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, in The Community Funeral Home with Richard Holmes officiating. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements are under the direction of The Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.

Dewey D. Potter

Dewey D. Potter, 57 of Elkhorn City, passed away Tuesday Sept. 06, 2016 at his residence.

Dewey was born Jan. 07, 1959 in South Williamson to the late William Patton Potter and Bertha Williams Potter.

Besides his father Dewey he was preceded in death by one brother; Jay Edmond.

He is survived by his wife Teresa Potter of Elkhorn City, one daughter; Jennifer (and Jon) Potter-Quillen of Nicholasville, his mother: Bertha Potter of Elkhorn City, two grandchildren; Madelyn Kennedy Quillen and Christopher Jon Quillen both of Nicholasville, one brother; Guy Wendell (Heather) Potter of Christiansburg, Va., and one sister; DuRhonda (and Carter) Stacy of Elkhorn City.

Dewey was of the Baptist faith.

The funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, Sept. 08, 2016. Services will begin at 7:00 pm with Scotty Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at the John Potter Cemetery, Little Branch, Elkhorn City.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Bailey Funeral Home in Elkhorn City.

Roger Ratliff

Roger Ratliff, 60, of Greasy Creek died Tuesday, Sept. 06, 2016, at his residence.

He was born in Pike County, Jan. 20, 1956, the son of the late Dave and Maggie Lacy Ratliff.

Roger was a retired carpenter and welder for over thirty years, where his skills are displayed all over the Pikeville area.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Rachel Leigh Ratliff; one brother, Gary Dean Ratliff; and one sister, Linda Kendrick.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Verhonda Parsons Ratliff; one daughter, Brandy Kidd (BoBo) of Greasy Creek; one brother, Johnny Ratliff of Pikeville; three sisters, Rosie Muncy of Delbarton, W.Va., Annie Blankenship of Pikeville and Rita Sue Jones of Chicago, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Michael Murphy, David Murphy, Zachary Tyler Ratliff, Brianna Kidd, Savanna Kidd, Cheyenne Rogers, Cody Rogers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, in the Island Creek Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Hall Family Cemetery at Left Fork of Island Creek. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall and Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

Earl Eugene Sesco

Earl Eugene Sesco, 59, of Williamson, W.Va. died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, at the Tug Valley Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 8, 1957, at Williamson, W.Va., the son of Lilly Ruth Sesco of South Williamson, and the late Earl Sesco. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Westel and Bertha Sesco and Robert and Eliza Gannon.

He was a former brakeman for N. & S. Railroad and a carpenter. He was a graduate of Belfry High School Class of 1975 and attended Alice Loyd College on a basketball scholarship for two years. He was a member of the West Williamson Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Maggie Sesco of Williamson, W.Va.; his mother, Lilly Ruth Sesco of South Williamson, W.Va.; brother, Dennis (Pam) Sesco of Banner; sisters, Linda (Bobby) Nelson of Turkey Creek, Shelia Ann (Tommy) Plymale of Lexington, and Christin Vickers Sesco of South Williamson; step children, James Price and Danny (Lydia) Maynard; grandchildren, Lindsey, Ryan and Athena; close friend, Harold Blevins of West Williamson; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends that he loved.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at 1 p.m. in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Dove officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy.

Pallbearers will be Jimbo Smith, Sid Smith, Harold Blevins, James Price, Dennnis Sesco, Doug Howard, Bobby Nelson and Larry Gannon. Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Elouise Thacker

Elouise Thacker, 80, of Clay City, died Monday, September 5, 2016, at Logan, W.Va.

She was born October 1, 1935, in Pike County, the daughter of the late Wallace and Virgie Adams Compton.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Johnny Thacker Jr.

She is survived by children, Brenda and Glen Johnson, Bobbie Jo and Damon Murphy, Randle and Elizabeth Thacker and James and Rose Thacker; and 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8, at Lucas and Son Funeral Home, Pikeville. Burial followed in the Compton Family Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home.

Larry Davis

Larry Davis, 72, of Pikeville, Ky., died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, at the Mountain View Health Care Center.

He was born in Richlands, Va., Jan. 26, 1944, the son of the late Elias Douglas and Letha Mae “Lilly” Davis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Buddy Davis; and one sister, Phyllis Fairchild.

Larry served in the U.S. Army and he was a Mason.

Larry is survived by his loving daughter, Larissa Beller (David).

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, in the Thacker Memorial Chapel with Jim Ed Belcher officiating. Entombment will follow in the J.U. Thacker Mausoleum at Annie E. Young Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Curtis Dwight Justice

Curtis Dwight Justice, 46, of Williamson, W.VA., died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pike County, Sept. 17, 1960, the son of Landon Curtis Justice of Tenn. and Barbra Jo Leedy Hackney of Belfry.

He was a coal miner and a member of the Church of God.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Monroe Todd Justice.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kathy Newsome Justice of Williamson, W.Va.; his step-mother, Thursa Justice; his step-father, William Hackney; two sons, Andrew Curtis Justice of Phelps and Matthew Curtis of Lexington; two daughters, McKinzey Estep and Jeraka Estep both of Phelps; step-son, Kenneth Michael Eaton; one brother, Shannon Justice of Louisa; three sisters, Rodjetta Smith of Stambaugh, Tammy Willet of Fla. and Cindy of Ohio; one grandchild, Colin Ryder Eaton; two special nephews, Levi Travis Smith and Joshua Tyler Smith; and many other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery of Chloe Road.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday, with services at 7. Arrangements are under the direction of the Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.

He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
