Elva Martin
Elva Martin, 92, of Elkhorn City, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at the Mt. View Healthcare Center.
She was born at Jimmie’s Creek, Sept. 2, 1924, the daughter of the late Perlie and Zettie Slone Justice.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Elkhorn City Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Martin; one daughter, Anne Grabowski; and two sisters, Oler Phillips and Olive Blackburn.
She is survived by one son; Bobby R. Martin (Sandy) of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; One daughter, Mary Zetta Ramey (Billy) of Elkhorn City; two sisters, Lucille Adkins and Phebe Adkins both of Pikeville; six grandchildren, David Ramey, Rodney Ramey, Timmy Martin, Brian Martin, Susan Houlihan and Donna Hungerford; and 13 great-grandchildren, Melanie Houlihan, Mitchell Houlihan, Rachel Hungerford, Bradley Hungerford, Luke Ramey, Jessi Ramey, Nathan Ramey, Eli Ramey, Aaron Ramey, Nick Ramey, Jacob Martin, Joseph Martin, and Colby Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with David Ramey officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Pikeville. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc. of Elkhorn City.
Visitation is from 6 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, in the funeral home chapel.
Lacy D. Snodgrass
Lacy D. Snodgrass, 52 of Ashland, has gone home on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at his home.
He was born in Pikeville, Feb. 14, 1964, the son of Lerlie Webb Blankenship (Mike) of Pikeville and the late William D. Snodgrass.
He was a graduate of John’s Creek High School and an inspector for AK Steel. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, and hunting. He also loved playing video games with his grandbabies. Lacy was a dedicated son, husband, father and grandfather. Anyone who came in contact with him was touched by his gentle, kind heart and humble loving ways. He was a member of Sutton Baptist Church in Pikeville.
In addition to his mother and step-father, he is survived by his adoring wife, of 16 years, Debbrah Crites Snodgrass; step-mother, Robin Snodgrass of Columbus, Ohio; three children, Clayton Snodgrass (Dena) of Pikeville, Lacy Snodgrass, Jr. (Courtney) of Pikeville, and Megan Shoup of Ashland; five grandchildren, Coty Snodgrass, Aaden Shoup, Gracie Snodgrass, Jaxson Shoup, and Braylee Snodgrass; six sisters, Glenda Passmore of Columbus, Chasity Endicott (Roger) of Columbus, Wendy Hall (Gary) of Pikeville, Reba Snodgrass of Columbus, Andrea Forney (Jerry) of Columbus, and Stephanie Triplett (Bart) of Grove City, Ohio.
A funeral service celebrating Lacy’s life will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home, 2702 Panola Street, Catlettsburg. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kilgore Collier Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, in the funeral home chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kilgore Collier Funeral Home of Catlettsburg.

Pamela Lynn Duncan
Pamela Lynn Duncan, 53, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016.
Miss Duncan was a 1981 graduate of Haysi High School. She lived in Pikeville for the last thirty years, was an employee of Community Trust Bank and was of the Christian faith.
Miss Duncan was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Margie Duncan; and one brother, Danny Duncan.
Survivors include her brothers, Shearl (Mary Ann) of Mouthcard, Ernie Duncan of Clinchco, Va., Donald Duncan (Mona) of Haysi, Va.; three sisters, Teresa Justice and Victoria Duncan of Pikeville and Paula Stanley (Scott) of Clintwood, Va.; and several nieces, nephews, a host of cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Vester McKinney, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Va. with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clintwood Funeral Home of Clintwood.

Hurshel McCoy
Hurshel McCoy, 87, of Sprigg W.Va., died Monday, Aug.29, 2016, at his home.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept.1, in the New Vision Assembly of God Church at Hatfield Bottom, Matewan, W.Va. Burial followed in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, W.Va. Arrangements were under the direction of the Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Eva L. Osterman
Eva L. Osterman, 83, of Norton, Va., died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, in Bristol, Tenn.

Sue Etta Sanders
Sue Etta Sanders, 73 of Rocky Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at the Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pikeville, Feb. 10, 1943.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Sanders; daughter, Debbie Smith; son, Kenny Sanders; and granddaughter, Brittany Sanders.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Kaitlyn Sanders and Shawna Mullins both of Pikeville; one great-grandson, Austin Mullins; and cousin, Ruby Childers of Pikeville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, with Virgil Ratliff and Paul Huffman officiating. Entombment will follow at the Isaac Thacker Memorial Mausoleum on Annie E. Young Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, with services at 7.
Sue Etta will be sadly missed by all who knew and treasured her.
Dixie Lou Smith
Dixie Lou Smith, 79, of Canada, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Tug Valley Regional Medical Center.
She was born at Canada, Jan. 17, 1937, the daughter of the late Joe B. and Ethel Fuller Thacker.
Dixie was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She was a faithful member of the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Mark Joseph Smith; brothers, Clifford, Harold and J. B. Thacker; sisters, Joyce Flemming and Polly Bishop; and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by her husband, Onis Lee Smith of Canada; son, Michael Smith (Sharon) of Mays Lick; daughters, Sherry Hallock (Art) of Palmyra, Mich. and Vicki Hatfield (Bruce) of McAndrews; sisters, Marie Jacobs(John) and Hazel Sturgill of Canada; grandchildren, Jamie Visingardi (Annetta), Jennifer Gard (Brian), Jacob Visingardi (Lydia), Jody Tharrett (Paul), Michele Varney (Ronn), Alyssa Smith, Karri Gibson (Jordan) and Dalton Hatfield; nine great- grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, in the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Primitive Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Thacker Family Cemetery at Canada with her grandsons and grandsons-in-law serving as pallbearers. Arrangements are under the direction of the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, in the funeral home chapel with special services at 7.
Sherry Ann Starcher
Sherry Ann Starcher, 47, of Harold, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at her residence.
A memorial service will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, at the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under direction of the Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Albert Eugene Umbenhower
Albert Eugene Umbenhower, 70, of Pikeville died Tuesday Aug. 30, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born on April 20, 1946, to the late James and Virginia Willaby Umbenhower.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Shelbiana.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Hampton Umbenhower; two step-sons, David MichaelMullins (Wendi) of McKinney, Tex. and Joseph Patrick Mullins (Donna) of Shelbiana; three sisters, Beverly Stoner (Edward) of Rockford, Ill., Patty McHugh (Irwin)of Martha and Caroline Umbenhower of Wisc.; three step-grandchildren, Alexis Victoria Mullins, Jameson Blayne Mullins and Samuel Jacob Charles Mullins.
A memorial service will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Grace Baptist Church of Shelbiana with Brian Horton officiating. Arrangements are under direction of the Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
LouEmma Maynard Chaffin
LouEmma Maynard Chaffin, 90, of Pikeville, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at her residence.
She was born at Piso, Feb. 23, 1926, the daughter of the late James Edward and Ida Nichols Maynard.
She was a graduate of Johns Creek High School and Pikeville College. She was a retired teacher of 36 years with the Pike County School System.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Savior at Bible Camp. She served Christ as an active member of the Salem United Baptist Church for 58 years, serving in many capacities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, John H. Chaffin; and her great-grandson, Chanston Ford.
She is survived by one son, David Wesley Chaffin (Sarah); one daughter, Jonnie Ford (Paul); one grandson, Jonathan W. Ford; one great-grandson, Jonathan Hunter Ford; two sisters, Opal Cool of Winchester and Bobbie Leslie of Mt. Olivet; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, at the Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Swanston and Rev. Larry Penix officiating. Entombment followed at the O.T. Hinton Mausoleum, Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Arrangements were under the direction of the J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Salem United Methodist Church.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jerry Wayne Chapman
Jerry Wayne Chapman, 57, of Bowling Green, finished his earthly race well on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at The Medical Center.
He was born in Bowling Green, June 6, 1959, the son of the late Richard Leon and Ann Guffy Maxey Chapman.
A devoted husband and loving father, Jerry was a man of strong character and endless humility. He was a life-long farmer, avid gardener and ‘70s music enthusiast. A loyal employee for nearly 30 years, Jerry worked at Morgantown Bank and Trust where he served as Vice President and Lending Supervisor, as well as a member of the Board of Directors. He was a follower of Jesus and attended Lost River Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Patrice “Pat” Francisco Chapman; daughter, Hadleigh Chapman of Bowling Green; two brothers, Richard Chapman (Wanda) and Gary Chapman (Veronica) all Bowling Green; his father and mother-in-law, Bruce and Betty Francisco of Pikeville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Thacker Keith) of Knoxville, Tenn.; and Sally Billings Nathan) of Lexington; and his nieces and nephews, Jeremy (Sarah), Lacey (Derek), Brandy, Emma, Thomas, Max, Ellie, Kaitlyn, Allie “Skipper” and Ella.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at J. C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Burial will follow at Little Muddy Cemetery in Butler County. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.C. Kirby and Son Funeral Home of Bowling Green.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
