Billy Craig “Bub” Irick

Honoring the life of Billy Craig Irick “Bub.”

He was born Oct. 10, 1972, in Pikeville, Ky., to his parents, Billy Joe Irick and Doris Jean Irick who survive him, along with his beloved sister: Valerie Irick Stevens (Larry), all of Phelps, Ky. He passed away Aug. 22, 2016, at his home.

He loved his wife, Geraldine Fields Irick; his son, Joel Irick (fiancée Cathy McCarter); grandson, Brantley Irick; niece, Courtney Casey; and nephew, Blake Stevens, all of Phelps.

A retired coal miner, Billy loved hunting, fishing, and riding his four wheeler with his special uncle, Ervin Irick, and his precious dog, Skeeter Bug.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carl & Lura Irick; maternal grandmother, Ruth Hatfield Daugherty; cousins, William “Weo” Irick and Stephanie Robinette.

Bub is also survived by his stepchildren, Brentany Looney (Josh) of Big Rock, Va., Brandon Casey of Morristown, Tenn.; step-grandchildren, Isiah & Lailay Looney of Big Rock, Va., Cameron McCarter, Kaliub and Des Wolford all of Phelps, Ky., plus a host of family and friends; and his papaw, Robert Daugherty.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, at the Jones & West Funeral Home with ministers Harold Layne, Gerald Fields, and Frank Layne officiating.

A short graveside service will follow at the Daugherty Family Cemetery, Solomon Br., Jamboree, Ky. with members of the Phelps Volunteer Fire Dept. serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home with services nightly at 7.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps, Ky.

Billy Gene Looney Sr.

Billy Gene Looney Sr., 80, of Norman, Okla., formerly of Belcher, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, in Norman, Okla.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug.27, at the R.H. Ratliff Cemetery, Shelbiana. Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel.

Jack Murphy

Jack Murphy, 79, of Edgarton, W.Va., died Wednesday, Aug.24, 2016, at Phelps.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Chambers Funeral Services Chapel with Bro. Bill Mosely officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackberry Cemetery at Blackberry, W.Va. Arrangements are under the direction or Chambers Funeral Services, Inc. of Matewan, W.Va.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, in the funeral home chapel with services beginning at 7.

Joneda “Jodi” Sykes

Joneda “Jodi” Sykes, 64, of Ashcamp, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at Pikeville.

She was born in Pikeville, March 1, 1952, the daughter of the late Joe C. and Fern Rhea Hackney Coleman.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Ashcamp Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Adam Corbett Sykes.

She is survived by four sons, Curtis Joe Scott of Las Vegas, Nev., Robbie Allen Scott, Jason Ray Scott and Eric Aron Scott all of Ashcamp; two daughters, Melyssa Beth Sykes Geels of Cold Spring and Nikki Shae Rose of Belcher; two sisters, Gail Deanna Owens of Breaks, Va. and Robin Camille Pelphrey of Paintsville; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Shawn Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson Cemetery at Draffin. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.

Howard Stevens

Howard Stevens, 69, of Pikeville, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday Aug. 28, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Kendrick Cemetery, Upper Chloe. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Saturday, with services at 7.

Elsie Mae Bartley

Elsie Mae Bartley, 73, of Bowling Fork Road, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born in Pike County, May 28, 1943, the daughter of Florence Bowling Bartley and the late Burl Bartley.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Bowling Fork Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Estes Bartley; two sons, Terry Anderson and Michael Darrell Anderson; and one daughter, Melinda Anderson.

Besides her mother, she is survived by two sons, Ronald Dale Rose and Jerry Bartley; three daughters, Sheila Honaker, Patricia Rose and Geanine Woods; six brothers, Glen Bartley, Donald Bartley, Roger Bartley, Larry Bartley, Gilbert Bartley and Billy Bartley; one sister, Gwendolyn Johnson; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, in the Bowling Fork Freewill Baptist Church with Jimmy Kerr and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery at Chloe. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Lana Ann Blankenship

Lana Ann Blankenship, 55, of Ransom, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at the Tug Valley Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Samaria Primitive Baptist Church with the Primitive Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow at the Alley Cemetery, Ransom with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Visitation will be held Tuesday and Wednesday nights after 6 p.m. at the church with special services Wednesday night at 7.

Lois Bonita “Bonnie” Blankenship

Lois Bonita “Bonnie” Blankenship, 78, of Phelps, formerly of Matewan, W.Va., died Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center in Phelps,

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, in the Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Bro. David Smith and Bro. Dennie Land officiating. Burial will follow in the Blankenship Cemetery at Sand Siding, W.Va.. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home with services at 7.

Margie Lynn Farris

Margie Lynn Farris, 44, of Pikeville, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at Meta.

Memorial services were held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, in the Salem Old Regular Baptist Church at Goody with Ferrell Sesco officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Margaret Evelyn Hamilton

Margaret Evelyn Hamilton, 82, of Matewan, W.Va., died Friday, Aug.19, 2016, at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center in Phelps.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, in the Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Ray Taylor officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy. Arrangements were under the direction of the Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.

Robert Lloyd Henson

Robert Lloyd Henson, 82, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, in Westminster, Col.

Robert was born at Hardy, in Pike County, July 27, 1934, the son of the late Edward C. and Myrtle McLeroy Henson.

He attended the Belfry Schools and graduated from Belfry High School in 1954. He loved Belfry and fondly remembered his days there while playing football for the Belfry Pirates and with Coach Moricle. He moved to the Detroit, Mich. area following graduation and attended Wayne State University majoring in Mechanical Engineering. While still in college, General Motors offered him an apprenticeship in Wood Model Building in the Research and Development Dept. at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. He worked there 34 years, until retiring in 1991.

He married Ruby Pearl Collins in 1956 and for 60 years they built a life together in Michigan, where they raised the following children: Mark Robert Henson, Lynne Elizabeth Henson and Thomas B. Henson. Bob and Ruby lived in Warren, Mich. until his retirement and then moved to Brush, Col. where they lived for many years until moving to Somerset and living there until 2009 when they returned to Colorado to be near their children and grandchildren.

Bob was an avid craftsman and built many items for his home and family throughout the years. He worked in helping at the First United Methodist Church of Warren, the East Morgan County Public Library in Brush, Col. and other places. He enjoyed his home and family and delighted in the arrival of the grandchildren and then the little great-grandchildren. His delight was to feed them whenever they were near and try to hold the babies as he could. He attempted to hold and play ball with them until just the past few months. He was a member of UAW Local 160 of Warren and an avid Coloradoan who enjoyed camping and sightseeing Colorado and the United States.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Robert Henson (Jean Bohms) in 2011; a grandson, Robert Randal Lathem in 2011; and brothers, Dewey, Harold and Virgil; and sisters, Inez Orner and Mary Sack.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Pearl Collins Henson; son, Thomas of Westminster, Col.; daughter, Lynne Henson Keys (Michael) of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; grandchildren, Timothy Henson (Mona), Daniel Henson, Judy Lynne Henson Scheneman (Richard) of Westminster, Col., Jessica Leigh Henson Peterson (Zakery) of Croften, Md, Christie Marie Henson of Westminster, Col. and Elle Keys of Berea; great-grandchildren, Kairan and Sophia Scheneman, Dresdyn, Rhodes and Rouen Peterson and Isabella Henson; brothers, William Curtis and Edsel Henson Jr. of Sarasota, Fla., Donald Henson of Dearborn Heights, Mich. and James Henson of Chattaroy, W.Va., and sisters, Lillian Brown Williamson of Forest Hills, Anna Mae Peters of Warner Robins, Ga. and Jane Taunton (Buford) of Talladega, Ala..

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Olinger Highland Chapel, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229.

Prayers for all of the family are appreciated and remembrances can be made to the East Morgan County Library, 500 Clayton St. Brush, CO 40723 or the First United Methodist Church of Warren, Mich., 4005 Chicago Rd. Warren, Mich. 48092.

Albert L. Pinson

Albert L. Pinson, 78, of Stanville, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at his residence.

He was born in Pikeville, May 31, 1938, the son of the late Shirley Pinson & Augustine “Bentley” Thompson.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Magalene Hunt Pinson; one son, Alfred Pinson; one sister, Ruth Thorp; and one brother, William Lester Thompson.

He is survived by one son, Eddie Pinson (Patricia); one grandson, Jeremy Pinson; one granddaughter, Latosha Pinson all of Stanville; one brother, Freeland Thompson (Jettie); and one sister, Emeline Robinson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, in the Thacker Memorial Chapel with Donnie Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery at Chloe. Arrangements are under the direction of the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Visitation is after 6 p.m.Tuesday and Wednesday with services at 7.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
