Geraldine Smith, 77 of Pinsonfork, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, at the Pikeville Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 31, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Rick Hisle officiating. Burial will follow in the Family Cemetery, Pinsonfork.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the funeral home chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Kenneth Wayne Howell
Kenneth Wayne Howell, 44, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County on March 1, 1972, the son of the late Leslie and Norma Damron Howell.
He was a construction worker.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Leslie Howell Jr.
He is survived by one sister, Beverly Adkins (Clancy); one nephew, Bradley Ray Adkins; and one great-niece, Raylie Sue Adkins; and a host of loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 29, in the Lucas and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Luther Ray officiating. Burial will follow in the Howell Family Cemetery, Coon Branch of Island Creek.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas and Son Funeral Home, Pikeville.
Tara R. Ratliff
Tara R. Ratliff, 42, of Justiceville, died Monday, July 25, 2016, in the Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pikeville, Oct. 27, 1973, the daughter of Mary Fern Ratliff Little and the late Bobby Edgar Ratliff.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ed and Cindia Justice Ratliff; maternal grandparents, Aubrey and Virginia Bolton Ratliff; and an aunt, Gina Ratliff.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her loving son, Bobby Chapman of Justiceville; two uncles, Jeff Ratliff of Pikeville and Gary Ratliff (Joyce) of Rockhouse; three adoring aunts, Lucille Ratliff of Pikeville, Kathy Hall of Robinson Creek and Lillian (BO) Byerly of N.C.; and many cousins, extended family and friends who loved and treasured her.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 29, in the Thacker Memorial Chapel with Jacob West and Todd Claypool officiating. Burial will follow at the Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday with services at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Tara will be forever loved and missed by all.
Zachary Steven “Zack” Curry
Zachary (Zack) Steven Curry, 58, of Williamson, W.Va., died Saturday, July 23, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, in the Hatfield Funeral Chapel with burial following in the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hatfield Funeral Home, Toler.
Charlene Ratliff Easton
Charlene Ratliff Easton, 91, of Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Pikeville, died Saturday, July 23, 2016, after a long illness.
She was born August 22, 1924, a daughter of the late Elster and Ora Coleman Ratliff.
She was a homemaker and businesswoman. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She graduated from The Academy in Pikeville and attended the University of Louisville Medical School, becoming a medical technologist.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Easton; one daughter, Ora Florence Easton; and one brother, Thomas Ratliff.
She is survived by her son, Robert Easton II; one brother, Roger Ratliff (Betty); one sister-in-law, M.M. Ratliff; two granddaughters, Beth Easton and Olivia Hutchison (Aaron); one grandson, Robert Easton III; one great grandson, Christopher Eck and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 29 at the First Presbyterian Church of Pikeville with Bill Hudson officiating. Entombment will follow at Johnson Memorial Park of Pikeville, in the O. T. Hinton Mausoleum. Arrangements are under the direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday, July 28, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel.
Bettie Dahlia Hampton
Bettie Dahlia Hampton, 88, of Long Fork, died Friday, July 22, 2016 at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County on Dec. 12, 1927, a daughter of the late Jesse and Liza Elswick Newsome.
She was self employed as a merchant and of the Old Regular Baptist Faith.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters: Mary Spence Tackett, Draxie Damron, Daisy Sexton, Dolly Roberts and Martha Newsome.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford Hampton; one daughter, Elfreda L. Lockhart; three sisters, Rosie Hopkins, Nellie Elkins, and Myrtle Smith; one granddaughter, Melissa Meinze White (Trenton); and one great-granddaughter, Dahlia Vee White.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 25, in the Lucas and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
William Harmon
William Harmon, 79, of Steele, died Saturday, July 23, 2016, at his residence.
He was born at Kimper, May 23, 1937, the son of the late Rufus and Dora Slone Harmon.
He was a coal miner.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Pheba Thacker Harmon; one daughter, Anita Fuller; and two brothers, James Harmon and Bob Harmon.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sizemore Harmon of Steele; one son, Joseph Slone of Pikeville; three daughters, Mabeline Grizzle and Amy Pinion, both of Steele; and Renee Taylor of Pikeville; one sister, Irene Thacker of Johns Creek; one brother, Homer Harmon of Floyd County; seven grandchildren, Natasha Grizzle, Cody Fuller, Malachi Slone, Hailey Slone, Kaitlyn Pinion, Keagan Pinion and Gabriel Slone.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 25 at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Jesse Taylor officiating. Burial followed in the Thacker Cemetery at Jonican. Arrangements were under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home in Elkhorn City.
David Brian Kinder
David Brian Kinder, 51, of Pikeville, died Friday, July 22, 2016, at his residence.
He was born in Pikeville on Aug. 1, 1964, the son of the late Bobby Ray and Margaret Blair Goble Kinder.
He worked diligently with Habitat for Humanity for many years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Teresa Ramey, Lisa Bryant and Patty Goble.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Jo Hackney Kinder; one son, Christopher David Kinder of the home; one daughter, Nicole Blair Kinder, also of the home; one brother, Randall Kinder of Pikeville; two sisters, Wanda Justice of Pikeville and Gwen Slone (Billy) of Kimper.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, at the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Levi Coleman officiating. Burial followed in Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Arrangements were under the direction of the J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Barbara Sue Coleman Meade
Barbara Sue Coleman Meade, 70, of Pikeville, died Saturday, July 23, 2016, at her residence.
She was born in Pikeville on June 12, 1946, the daughter of the late Chester and Ruth Tackett Coleman.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Tom’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Lee Meade; one son, Jimmy Lee Meade Jr.; and one brother, Claudie Coleman.
She is survived by two daughters, Dawn Kelli Clevinger (Gary) and Crystal Casey Woods (Randy), both of Pikeville; one brother, Joe Coleman of Pikeville; three sisters, Marquetta Harris and Katherine Layne, both of Pikeville and Chessie Wolfe of Millard; four grandchildren, Jimmy Lee Meade III, Devin Garris Clevinger, Sophia LeNay Woods and Millie Morell Woods.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Tim McCoy and Randy Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the Meade Family Cemetery, Ratliff Creek. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Pallbearers are: Gary Clevinger, Randy Woods, Devin Clevinger, Jimmy Lee Meade III, Ed Harris and Joe Coleman. Honorary pallbearers are: Todd Wolfe, Robby Simpson, Darrell Clark and Clinton Hunt.
Howard Randall Starnes
Howard Randall Starnes, 67, of Elkhorn City, died Monday, July 25, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pikeville, March 10, 1949, the son of Lucille Rasnick Smith of Elkhorn City and the late Howard Echol Starnes.
Randall was a member of the 1964 Elkhorn City High School State Championship Football Team. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1971, and then graduated from the University of Kentucky, College of Law, class of 1973. Randall was, thereafter, elected to serve as one of the two initial judges for the Pike County District Court System. He presided as Pike County District Court Judge from 1978 to 1984.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by one son, Terek Starnes and his step-father, Kermit Smith, Jr.
He is survived by his mother, Lucille Rasnick Smith; five sons, Mark Starnes (Julie) of Owensboro, Tracy Starnes of Lexington, Howard Grayson Tyler Starnes and Howard Randall Starnes II, both of Elkhorn City and Nicholas Caine Starnes of Glasgow, one daughter, Miranda Z. Starnes of Little Rock, AR.; and three grandchildren, Grayson Taylor Starnes, William Marshall Starnes and Aria Kate Mullins; one brother Donnie Keith Starnes (Carolyn) of Pikeville; two nephews, Donnie Keith Starnes II and Kelly Austin Starnes; one niece, Kirsten Starnes Huffman (Paul); one great nephew, Carson Ryan Huffman; and one great niece, Madeline Brook Huffman.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 28 at The Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Jason Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Dow Brooks Cemetery, Draffin.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, at the chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
