Conley “Sandman” Tackett
Conley “Sandman” Tackett, 59, of Virgie, died Saturday, July, 23, 2016, at his residence.
He was born June 6, 1957 in Pike County, a son of the late Onsby Lee and Alma Jewell Ray Tackett.
He was a former coal truck driver and a member of the Wheelwright Masonic Lodge.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gordon Tackett; one brother-in-law, Archie Childers Jr.; and one sister-in-law, Alice Rose Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Childers Tackett; one daughter, Leah Tackett of Virgie; four brothers, Jerry Tackett (Teresa) of Virgie, Phillip Tackett of Virgie, Scotty Tackett (Sandy) of Virgie and Onsby Tackett (Judy) of Virgie; three brothers-in-law, Toss Childers of Michigan, David Childers (Janice) of Pikeville and Bobby Childers (Mildred) of Virgie; two special nieces, Amy and Bobbi Jo; a special nephew, Jeremy Todd “Bobo” and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, at the Hall and Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Randall Stewart, Ritchie Roberts and Leonard Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in the RH Ratliff Cemetery, Shelbiana. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall and Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Earnest Ray Vermillion
Earnest Ray Vermillion, 80, of Williamson, W.Va., died Monday, July 25, 2016, at his residence.
Per his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.E. Rogers funeral Home of Belfry.

Johnny Dwayne Williams
Johnny Dwayne Williams, 61, of Shelbiana, died Saturday, July 23, 2016, at his residence.
He was born in Pike County on May 3, 1955, the son of the late Bobby and Nancy Williams.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Greasy Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sandy Hess and Debbie Ratliff; and one brother, Ronald Williams.
He is survived by four sisters, Paulette Stalker, Kathy Thacker, Margaret Chaney and Draxie Robertson; two brothers, Bobby Joe Williams and Randy Williams; and a niece, Kimberly Sanders (Mike).
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, at the Greasy Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Jimmy Jack Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopkins Cemetery, Greasy Creek.
Visitation will be held Monday after 6 p.m. at the church with services beginning at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Tom Hughes, 82, of Pikeville, died Wednesday, July 20, 2016, in Lexington.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 24, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements are under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Charlene Ruth May Callaway
Charlene Ruth May Callaway, 82, of Lexington, formerly of Elkhorn City, died Friday, July 22, 2016, at Pine Meadows Nursing Home.
She was born in Draffin, March 27, 1934, the daughter of the late Luther and Delma Mays May.
She was a beautician and member of the Elkhorn City Church of Christ.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alec Adkins; one son, Danny Adkins; and a sister, Virginia Rowe.
She is survived by one son, Lanny Adkins of Lexington; two sisters, Shelby Jean Rowe of Maumee, Ohio and Avonelle Phillips of Versailles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 25, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Church of Christ ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson Cemetery, Draffin. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday.
Connie K. Norman Chaney
Connie K. Norman Chaney, 64, of Pikeville, died Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pikeville on May 9, 1953, a daughter of the late Frank and Cleo Cline.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Gina Smith.
She is survived by four sons, Jimmy Norman (Mildred) of Corbin, Brian Norman of Elkhorn City, Jeremy Norman and Jerome Norman both of Pikeville; one daughter, Shawna Childers (Greg) of Morristown, Tenn.; two sisters, Cathy Cline and Sherry Hall; four brothers, Donnie Mercer, Tommy Mercer, Jeff Cline and Don Cline; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 24 at the Spears Family Cemetery at Belcher. Arrangements are under the direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Billy R. Miller Sr.
Billy R. Miller, Sr., 76, of Lexington, died Thursday, July 21, 2016, at his residence.
He was born in Pikeville, Oct. 20, 1939, a son of the late Ross and Lena Taylor Miller.
He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Freewill Baptist church.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda L. Miller; two sons, Billy R. Miller, Jr. and Rondal Wayne Miller; two daughters, Julia Diane Miller and Brittany L. Elkins; and five grandchildren.
A private funeral service for the family will be held on Monday, July 25, in the Lucas and Son Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Davidson Memorial Park at Ivel. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas and Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 24, for family only.
Haven Eldridge
Haven Lee Eldridge, 39, of Dandridge, Tenn., formerly of Freeburn, died Monday, July 11, 2016, in Vulcan, W.Va.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, in the Freeburn Community Cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Edward Gilpin
Edward Kenton Gilpin, 62, of Sookeys Creek, died Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County, June 16, 1954, the son of the late William George “Bill” Gilpin and Sally Margine Coleman Gilpin.
He was a retired truck drive formerly employed by Coca-Cola Bottling Company and was a member of the Energyville Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by one son, William Kenton Gilpin; and two brothers, William “Freddie” Gilpin (Cassondra) and Chris Gilpin (Janie).
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with David Bentley officiating. Burial will follow in the Potter Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday with special services at 7 p.m. Thursday with Old Regular Baptist ministers.
Sharon Hall
Sharon Kay Hatfield Hall, 69, of Pikeville, died Monday, July 18, 2016, at her home.
She was born in South Williamson, March 5, 1947, the daughter of the late Taylor Hatfield and Creda Brewer Hatfield.
She attended South Williamson Grade School and was a 1965 graduate of Belfry High School. She was very active and supportive of community service projects and an avid sports fan and supportive of her favorite teams, the Elkhorn City basketball team, the Belfry Pirates football team, UK basketball and UPike Baseball. Sharon loved roses and was an avid collector of things that caught her eye if it had a rose on it.
Sharon was a Beltone office manager, a nursing home administrator (Mountain View Health Care Center, Elkhorn City), retiring after 29 years, and a member of the Elkhorn City Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Hatfield and Charles Hatfield; one half-brother, Taylor Hatfield Jr.; one half-sister, Lorraine Hatfield Addair; and one sister-in-law, Nell Hatfield.
She is survived by one son, Justin Daniel Hall (Kristen) of Lexington; one sister, Judy Hatfield of South Williamson; one brother, Ancie Hatfield of Wayne, W.Va.; one sister-in-law, Ann Hatfield of Belfry; three grandchildren, Logan Hall, Riley Hall and Maggie Hall; an aunt, Verna Courtney of Ecorse, Mich.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with David Peters, Lee Upchurch and Morgan Chapman officiating. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Jason Kidd
Jason Dean Kidd, 33, of Harold, died Friday, July 15, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pikeville, Nov. 12, 1982, the son of Jerry Kidd and Dinah Kidd-Kolyvas.
He was retired from Big Sandy Wholesale Company and was a member of Community Bible Church where he served as basketball coach for four years.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepfather, Anthony Kolyvas; one son, Matthew Dean Kidd; one sister, Christieana Hohenecker (Kevin); his grandmother, Fostina Murphy of Cave Runn; his companion, Alicia Ann Driver; and four nieces and nephews, Serenity Kidd, Claudia Hohenecker, Zakkary Shepherd and Curtis Hohenecker.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with David Hale, Roger Wells and Robbie Hawkins officiating. Burial followed in the Kidd Cemetery, Island Creek. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
