Marvin McCoy
Marvin McCoy, 71, of Elkhorn City, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 9, at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Elkhorn City. Burial will follow at the McCoy Family Cemetery, Jimmies Creek.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Elkhorn City.
Judy Morgan
Judy Kay Morgan, 64, of Rockhouse, died Friday, July 1, 2016, at her home.
She was born in Pikeville, Jan. 4, 1952, the daughter of Christine Epling Little of Rockhouse and the late Petie Hylton.
She was a physical therapy assistant and was of the Full Gospel faith.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Wayne Morgan; and a son, Neil Morgan.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one son, Jamie Morgan of Regina; and two grandchildren, Emily Morgan and Olivia Morgan.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Joey Sussan officiating. Entombment followed in the J.U. Thacker Mausoleum, Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Billy Stiltner
Billy Joe Stiltner, 63, of Elkhorn City, died Friday, July 8, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born October 12, 1952, in Pikeville, the son of the late Everette Leon and Tilda Blair Stiltner.
He was a carpenter and coal miner and a member of the Elkhorn City Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar Stiltner and Jimmie “Carmel” Stiltner; and five sisters, Manthalee Adkins, Louella Ratliff, Christine Mullins, Ora Marie Rose and Villa Jean Bartley.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Deel Stiltner of Elkhorn City; three sons, Barry Joe (Kirsten) Stiltner of Dandridge, Tenn., Chad (B.J.) Stiltner of Pikeville, and Brad (Tena Banks) Stiltner of Jonancy; three sisters, Vida Creed of Plymouth, Ind., Gloria Dean Thacker of Regina, and Doreen Wachtel of Elkhorn City; two brothers, Kelver Stiltner of Belcher and Jerry Stiltner of Elkhorn City; and three grandchildren, Peyton Everette Stiltner, Aaliyah Jade Banks and Natalie Annalene Stiltner.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, July 10, at the Elkhorn City City Church of Christ, with Jim Ed Belcher, Steve Taylor and Billy Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the Dow Brooks Cemetery, Draffin.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Saturday, at the church, with a service at 7 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
John Sword
John Clarence Sword, 67, of Betsy Layne, died Thursday, July 7, 2016, at his residence.
He was born February 3, 1949, in Pike County, the son of the late Duran Sword and Ethel Mae Webb.
He was a retired coal miner with Action Energy.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Wagers Sword; a son, John C. Sword Jr.; three daughters, Trulene Benner, Victoria Lynn Bryant and Elizabeth Rebecca Frazier; step-children, Susan Bridgeman and Steven Bridgeman; two brothers, Tommy Sword and Harvey Robinson; three sisters, Betty Helms, Durana Brown and Cheryl Mathney; and five grandchildren, one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, July 10, at Grassy Freewill Baptist Church, with Ronnie Webb and others officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville.
Visitation will be Saturday at the church, with services at 7 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home, Pikeville.
Marjorie Baaer
Marjorie Lynn Varney Baer, 54, of Williamson, W.Va., died Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.
A memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 9, in the Hardy Church of Christ. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
Harvey Hodge
Harvey Hodge, 88, of Elkhorn City, died Friday, July 1, 2016, at his home.
He was born in Elkhorn City, Aug. 16, 1927, the son of the late Booker Hodge and Grace Bartley Stewart.
He was a coal miner.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Allen Hodge; and one son, Harvey “June Bug” Hodge.
He is survived by four sons, Gary Hodge, Robert Hodge and Billy Joe Hodge, all of Elkhorn City and Michael Hodge of Columbus, Ohio; seven daughters, Barbara Adams, Carol Stalker, Rhonda Ratliff, Diana Ratliff, Tenna Swiney and Anita Hodge, all of Elkhorn City and Kathy Fleming of Hellier; one sister, Ruby Cavins of Haysi, Va.; 30 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 4, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Herman West and Terry Gibson officiating. Burial followed in the Bartley Cemetery, Jacksons Branch, Elkhorn City. Arrangements were under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Gail Kendrick
Gail Sue Kendrick, 59, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County, June 3, 1957, the daughter of the late John Kendrick and Kelsie Thacker Kendrick.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Lee Mullins; one brother, Phillip Kendrick; and one grandson, Jimmy Mullins.
She is survived by one daughter, Melissa Pierce (Johnny) of Elkhorn City; six brothers, Glen Kendrick of Harold, Argle Kendrick of Zebulon, Robert Kendrick, Paul Kendrick and Charles Kendrick, all of Dallas, Texas, and Kenneth Kendrick of Island Creek; two sisters, Sara Moore of Pikeville and Joyce Parks of Dallas; four grandchildren, Cody Ramsey, Tandra Ramsey, Hannah Pierce and Hunter Pierce; and two great-grandchildren, Easton Mullins and Brantley Ramsey.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, in the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Argle Kendrick and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Tackett Cemetery, Long Fork. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday.
Kason Ooten
Kason Jeremy Ooten, 22 months, of Delbarton, W.Va., son of Jeremy T. Ooten and Rebecca S. Hall, died Saturday, July 2, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, July 8, in the Duncan Fork House of Prayer with burial following in the Ooten Cemetery, Delbarton. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Home of Toler.
Bonnie Adkins
Bonnie Sue Adkins, 74, of Pikeville, died Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pikeville, Jan. 11, 1942, the daughter of the late Willard Adkins and Eva Mullins Adkins.
She was a homemaker and was a member of the Cowpen Freewill Baptist Church for 27 years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Adkins; one son, Glen Adkins; and two brothers, Howard Adkins and Lawrence Adkins.
She is survived by two sons, Paul David Adkins (Constance) of Sookeys Creek and Johnny Adkins (Rhonda Mullins) of Gap Branch; three daughters, Brenda Adkins Slone (Donnie) of Island Creek, Tammy Lou Adkins Taylor (Chester) of Hurricane Creek and Cheryl Lynn Keen (Danny); five brothers, Harold Adkins of Harold, Freddy Adkins of Frozen Creek, James Adkins of Betsy Layne, Kenny Adkins of Iowa and Joe Adkins of Mississippi; three sisters, Phyllis Triplett of Columbus, Ohio, Fern Morris of Pikeville and Ruth Judd of Martin; seven grandchildren, Amy Keen, Allysha Keen, Brandi Justice (Jeremy), Tosha Slone, Josh Taylor, Amanda Ash and Faith Anaiah Adkins; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, in the Cowpen Freewill Baptist Church with Estill Reed and James Stotridge officiating. Burial followed in the Adkins & Justice Family Cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Levi Belcher
Levi Belcher, 67, of Shelby Gap, died Sunday, July 3, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County, June 14, 1949, the son of the late Lester “Buster” Belcher and Rosa Belle Cantrell Belcher.
He was a coal truck driver.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clinton Belcher; and three sisters, Coleen Freeman, Kansas Hall and Wilma Golden.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Burke Belcher; two sons, Kevin Belcher (Amanda) and Keith Belcher (Misty); two sisters, Arizona Clark and Cheryl Prater; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, July 6, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Dolph Kelly and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Belcher Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Mary Griffith
Mary Ruth Trimble Griffith, 92, of Pikeville, died Friday, July 1, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born at Hager Hill, Aug. 17, 1923, the daughter of the late Harry B. Trimble and Bessie Adam Trimble.
She was a homemaker and a Rosie the Riveter in Michigan, during World War II. She was a member of the Betsy Layne United Methodist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Griffith; one son, James Keith Griffith; two brothers, Bud Trimble and Harry Donald Trimble; and one sister, Mabel Smith.
She is survived by one son, Steve Linton Griffith; five grandchildren, Stacy Meade (James), Khrista Sword, Craig Griffith, Chris Griffith and Mistri Griffith.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 4, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Randy Blackburn officiating. Burial followed in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel. Arrangements were under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
