McKinley Bartley
McKinley Dean Bartley, 73, of Pikeville, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County, Aug. 26, 1942, the son of the late Elmer and Thelma Phipps Bartley.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pikeville.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Green.
McKinley is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lydia Bartley; two daughters, Delena (Clevinger (Woodrow) of Pikeville and Mia Mims (Charles II) of Georgetown; two sisters, Betty Jo Ratliff of Pikeville and Sue Pickrell of Kingston, Tenn.; one brother, Elmer Duran “Randy” Bartley of Arkansas; two grandchildren, Deanna Rose (Justin) of Pikeville, Deidra Clevinger of Ashland and Matthew Mims of Georgetown; and two great-grandchildren, McKenzie Rose and Olivia Rose, both of Pikeville.
McKinley will be greatly missed by all who knew and cherished him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 2, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with John Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road, Pikeville. Arrangements are under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday.
Brenda Clevinger
Brenda G. Clevinger, 68, of Dauphin Island, Ala., died peacefully, Sunday, June 26, 2016, at the USA Medical Center, Mobile, Ala.
Brenda was born in Pikeville, Jan. 22, 1948, the daughter of the late Victor K. Bartley and Maudie Robinson Bartley.
She 68, died peacefully on June 26, 2016 at The USA Medical Center in Mobile, AL.
Brenda was born on January 22, 1948 in Pikeville, Ky to Victor K. Bartley and Maudie Robinson Bartley.
She lovingly and wholeheartedly devoted her life to her Faith in Christ and to her family through her kind and generous spirit, always putting others before herself.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Dale Clevinger, whom she married
in 1965; two children, Kimberly Lynn Clevinger and Kevin Dale Clevinger (Jessica); two sisters, Vikki Akers (Jim) and Sharon Sammons; and three grandchildren, Korbi Clevinger, Kade Clevinger and Jesse Clevinger.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 2, in the United Methodist Church, Dauphin Island, with Pastors Cecil Jackson and Joey Sammons officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Ascension Funerals & Cremation, Mobile.
Visitation is after noon Saturday, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute of Mobile, AL or to the Clearwater Institute of Huntsville, AL.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Brenda’s life.
Marie Coleman
Marie Thacker Coleman, 84, of Wolfpit, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County, Nov. 23, 1931, the daughter of the late Oll Coleman and Edna England Coleman.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde Thacker; her second husband, Frank Coleman; two sons, Steve Thacker and Freddy Thacker; three brothers; one sister; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Wellman.
She is survived by four sons, Denver Thacker (Kay), Vernon Thacker (Vicki), Johnnie Thacker (Janis) and Clyde Ray Thacker (Vonda); one daughter, Rena Stewart (Freddie); four sisters, Myrtle Bentley, Ample Hill, Oma Hill and Reble Johnson; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 2, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rockhouse Freewill Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday with special services at 7.
Clyde Sword
Clyde Sword, 70, of Regina, died Monday, June 27, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pikeville, Feb. 11, 1946, the son of the late Columbus Sword and Ruth Canterburry Sword.
He was a coal equipment operator.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Sword and Della Gibson.
He is survived by his wife, Esta Coleman Sword; one son, Robbie Sword (Tammy) of Harold; two daughters, Denise Gray (Mark) of Sevierville, Tenn., and Gaila Boggs (Michael) of Shelbiana; three sisters, Dorothy Coleman (Doug), Carol Scott (Tim) and Edith Tanner (Ben), all of Pikeville; two brothers, Ray Sword of Florida and Columbus Sword Jr. (Ava) of Pikeville; three grandchildren, Jimmie Boggs, Jon-Michael Boggs (Whitney), Zachary Gray and Angel Gray; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Boggs and Gavin Gray; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 1, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Lloyd Holland and Gary Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Ratliff Cemetery, Yellow Hill, Regina. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Lucille Tostin
Lucille Swiney Tostin, 76, of Ashcamp, died Thursday, June 30, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday July 2, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Swiney Family Cemetery, Center Creek. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Lisa Woodward
Lisa Woodward, 55, of Burdine, died Monday, June 27, 2016, at her home.
She was born in Jenkins, Jan. 13, 1961, the daughter of the late Franklin Herbert Woodward and Anetha Sue Vanover.
She was a secretary and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Rachel Woodward (Nathan Taylor); one sister, Vicki Hurst; two nephews, Benjamin Hurst and Daniel Hurst; and one niece, Stephanie Hurst.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30, in the Whitesburg First Baptist Church with Tony Brown officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 11 a.m. Thursday, at the church.
Tracy Anderson
Tracy Eugene Anderson, 44, of Harold, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, the result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
He was born in Pikeville, Nov. 3, 1971, the son of Patsy Allen Williamson and the late Freddie Anderson.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Brian; two children, Luke Joseph Anderson and Brandon Anderson; three stepchildren, Chasity Soward, Josh Sowards and Shane Belcher; his girlfriend, Chrystal Hamilton; one sister, Susan Livingston; his grandmother, Barbara Williamson; aunts and uncles, Barbara and Ronnie Luster, Jerry and Linda Williamson and Ricky and Patsy Williamson; family by love, Terry and Amanda Coleman; cousins, Bobby and Shannon Williamson, Josh Dylan and many others; best friends, Larry and Claudia McKinney; and a host of friends.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 26, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Justice officiating. Burial followed in the Varney Family Cemetery, Kimper. Arrangements were under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Sadie Casey
Sadie Casey, 93, of Phelps, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born at Coleman, Feb. 23, 1923, the daughter of the late Mose Kender and Rhoda Casey Kender.
She was a homemaker and of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Shorty Casey.
She is survived by one son, Charles Casey of Phelps; one daughter, Dixie Smith of Morristown, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30, in the Phelps Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Jimmy Lee Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Kender Family Cemetery, Ashlick of Phelps. Arrangements are under direction of Phelps Funeral Services of Phelps.
Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with special services at 7.
Edith Flanery
Edith Johnson Flanery, 67, of Wheelwright, died Friday, June 24, 2016, at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center, Lexington.
She was born in Floyd County, June 15, 1949, the daughter of the late Russell and Alice Newsome Johnson.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Flanery; and one brother, Bill Johnson.
She is survived by three sons, Darrell Flanery of Melvin, Larry Flanery of Bevinsville and Tony Flanery of Wheelwright; six daughters, Norma Tackett and Renna Rose, both of Melvin, Anita Hall and Mary Johnson, both of Wheelwright, Michelle Newsome of Richmond and Jennifer Rubio Yates of Fremont, Ohio; three brothers, Carlos Johnson, Roy Johnson and Jimmy Johnson, all of Melvin; three sisters, Wanda Hall, Christine Adkins and Sheryl Little, all of Melvin; 33 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, in the Tackett Fork Freewill Baptist Church with Freewill Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Denver Tackett Cemetery, Melvin. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Samuel Gooslin
Samuel Ray Gooslin, 64, of Kimper, died Friday, June 24, 2016, at Pikeville Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at noon Monday, June 27, in the Phelps Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Chapman Cemetery, Barrenshe Creek. Arrangements were under direction of Phelps Funeral Services of Phelps.
“Buck” Justice
Michael Buster “Buck” Justice, 40, of Feds Creek, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at his home.
He was born in Pikeville, April 29, 1976, the son of Danny Justice and Myron Dotson Justice.
He was a coal miner and a member of the Feds Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, Jacob Michael Justice of Pikeville; one brother, Danny Robert Justice (Heather) of Pikeville; one sister, Amy Brooke Fields (Trenton) of Versailles; and two nephews, Lucas Daniel Justice and Eli Fields.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Patton and Rick Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in the Dow Brooks Cemetery, Draffin. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is all day Wednesday with services at 7 p.m.
