Larry Martin, 83, of Shelbiana, died Saturday, May 28, 2016, at his home.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at the mausoleum in the Annie E. Young Cemetery with DAV honors conducted by Johns Creek Chapter #166. Arrangements were under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Macie Tackett
Macie M. Tackett, 89, of Mount Orab, Ohio, formerly of Canada and McVeigh, went to be with Jesus, Sunday, June 26, 2016.
She was born in Deberock, Va., July 26, the daughter of the late Henry and Hanna Mae Silcox.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Dix Fork Old Regular Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Cleo Tackett; one daughter, Rebecca Tackett Roberts; two sons, Bobby Gene Tackett and Charles Edward Tackett; three sisters; and three brothers.
She is survived by one daughter, Debbie Tackett Stroud of Mount Orab; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Marty Blankenship
Marty Blankenship, 50, of Freeburn, departed this life June 23, 2016, at his home, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born July 24, 1965 at South Williamson, a son of Anna Mae Johnson of Camp Creek, and the late Ira Jr. Blankenship.
In addition to his mother, survivors also include one sister, Lula B. Blankenship of Stopover; three brothers: Chuck Blankenship, Brandon Johnson, and Raymond Johnson, all of Stopover; best friend and coworker, Kevin Scott of Majestic; special companion, Nyoka Dotson of Freeburn; beloved daughter, Sandra Reed; and granddaughters, Ashton Reed and Josie Reed, all of Freeburn.
Marty was of Pentecostal faith. He was an automotive manager for many years and took pride in his work ethnics. He loved his family, friends, and customers. Anyone who knew him knew he was hardworking. You will be sadly missed and forever held in our hearts.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m., Sunday, June 26at the Jones & West Funeral Home with Reverends Odis Blankenship and Kenny Chapman officiating. Sunset graveside service and burial will follow in the Chapman Cemetery at Barrenshee, Freeburn.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps.
Doris Hughes
Doris Lorraine Hughes, 78, of Johns Creek Road, Pikeville, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Baptist Health, Lexington.
She was born September 3, 1937, in Pike County, the daughter of the late Oscar and Fannie Runyon King.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gabriel Hughes; a brother, J.B. King; a sister, Betty Justice; a granddaughter, Veronica Jane Thornsbury; and a great-granddaughter, Haley Thornsbury.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Michael (Sue) Hughes, and Douglas (Lana) Hughes; two daughters, Teena (Kim) Justice and Angela (David) Shaner; a brother, Paul King; and eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, June 27, at Lucas and Son Funeral Home, Pikeville, with Chester Ray Varney and Buddy Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home.
Bennie Bartley
Bennie Phillip Bartley, 73, of Keyser Heights, Pikeville, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at his home.
He was born in Detroit, Dec. 21, 1942, the son of the late George Bartley and Clara Newsome Bartley.
He was manager at the Kentucky Department of Employment Services, attended Pikeville College and taught school for several years. He was president of the Chamber of Commerce, president of Alumni of UPike, president of Alumni of Hellier High School and was a member of the Fords Branch Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lorraine Roberts Bartley; two daughters, Rebecca Diane McGuire (Brian) and Robin Lynn Webb (Chadd) one sister, Burita Dawn Rowe (Ellis); and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Fred Klatka officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. Friday.
Fay Blackburn
Fay Blackburn, 95, of Mills Road, Pikeville, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at her home.
She was born in Pike County, March 17, 1921, the daughter of the late French Blackburn and Bessie Spears Blackburn.
She was a homemaker and of the Old Regular Baptist faith.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elster Blackburn; one daughter, Emmalou Boskee; one brother, Ersel Blackburn, two sisters, Toka Hunt and Luciana Blackburn; and two granddaughters, Michelle Boskee and Lisa Gail Blackburn.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth Blackburn (Joan) of Pikeville; four daughters, Juanita Sheely (Butch) of Winchester, Phyllis Hillerman (William C.) and Linda Tibbs (Jack), both of Pikeville, Eve Ford (Kenny) of Utica, Mich.; one brother, Chester Blackburn (Judy); 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Dale Williamson, Danny Runyon, Richard Staton and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackburn Family Cemetery, Brushy. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday, with special services at 7 p.m. Friday.
Tommy Elswick
Tommy Dale Elswick, 38, of Robinson Creek, died Monday, June 20, 2016.
He was born in Pikeville, Nov. 18, 1977, the son of Shirley Bishop Damron and the late Ricky Elswick.
He is survived by his loving family: his son, Kaden Elswick of Pikeville; his loving mother, Shirley Damron of Robinson Creek; and his grandparents, Nellie and Fred Rutherford.
He will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Jack Adkins and Jimmy Reed Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Emily Ooten
Emily Dawn Ooten, 26, of Pembroke, Va., formerly of Belfry, died Monday, June 20, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 24, in the Hatfield Funeral Home Chapel with entombment following in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
John Rowe
John Thomas Rowe, 40, of Little Creek, died Monday, June 20, 2016, in Pikeville.
He was born Aug. 22, 1975, the son of the late Thomas Rowe and Charlene Rowe.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Brandy Younce; one son, Axl Clyde Rowe; one daughter, Madelyn Dwan Rowe; one brother, Matthew Rowe of Lexington; two sisters, Kendra Renee Riddle of Little Creek and Crystal Rowe of Branham Creek; and his maternal grandmother, Myrtle Bryant of Pikeville.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 25, in the Solid Rock Church, Robinson Creek. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Ethel Scott
Ethel Thornsbury Scott, 94, of Richmond, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Richmond.
Ethel was born at Canada, Nov. 21, 1921, the daughter of the late Octavia and Madison Thornsbury.
Ethel was a member of the Mount Pleasant Old Regular Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Scott; three sons, Tommy Scott, David Scott and Jimmy Scott; four sisters, Betty Jane Cook, Goldie Scott Hankins, Lola West and Lena Mullins; and eight brothers, Bob Thornsbury, Claude Thornsbury, John Thornsbury, Calvin Thornsbury, Willie Thornsbury, Herbert Thornsbury, Warren Thornsbury and George Thornsbury.
She is survived by one son, Elder Frankie Scott (Jewel) of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Sherry Scott of Richmond, Tim Scott (Sue) of St. Claire Shores, Mich., Gina Tincher (Tony) of Howell, Mich., and Shellie Scott, Tammy Scott, Kathy Scott and Jimmy Jr. Scott; and four great-grandchildren, Marissa Scott, Selena Klaassen, Hunter Klaassen and Treyton Klaassen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 26, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Elders Albert Cable, Tommy Dials and Lacy Walters officiating. Burial will follow in the Scott Cemetery, Hardy, with Tim Scott, Ronnie West, Tom West, Curtis Bogar, Bobby Scott Jr., Randall Thornsbury, Bobby Thornsbury and Jimmy Hall serving as pallbearers. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
