Naomi Grunden
Naomi M. Grunden, 90, of Holly Drive, Pikeville, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at her home.
She was born in New Albany, Ind., Nov. 5, 1924, the daughter of the late Earl Melton.
She was a homemaker and of the Christian faith.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Grunden; one brother; and two sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Ronna Adkins and Paula Mitchell; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held with burial following in the Matthers Family Cemetery, English, Ind. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Curtis Hight Jr.
Curtis Hight Jr., 60, of Pikeville, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.
He was born in Williamson, W.Va., June 15, 1955, the son of Curtis Lee Hight and the late Helen (Dillard) Hight.
In addition to his father, Curtis is survived by his loving wife, Amy (Luke) Hight; two sons, Curtis Hight III of Williamson and Maurice Hight of Kimper; two daughters, Alea Hight and Miranda Webb, both of Pikeville; one sister, Marlene Tucker of Ohio; one brother, Stuart Hight; and five grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Carl Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Williamson. Arrangements are under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Johnny Reynolds
Johnny Reynolds, 73, of Waynesville, Mo., formerly of Virgie, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, in Missouri.
He was born May 11, 1942, the son of the late Duran and Helena Kinney Reynolds.
He was a retired U.S. Army veteran and also a retired ROTC instructor with the Pike County Schools.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Louanna Tackett and Kay Thornbury.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Reynolds; two sons, John Reynolds (Angela) of Raccoon and James Reynolds (Amanda) of Oak Grove; one daughter, Cindi Reynolds of Waynesville; two brothers, Perry Reynolds of River Rouge, Mich., and Harlan Reynolds of Steubenville, Ohio; five grandchildren, Samantha McGaughy, Larra Rose McGaughy, Kaylee Ann Reynolds, Cody Reynolds and Chael Reynolds; along with a special companion, Charlie Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, in the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Derek Hughes and Morgan Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, with services nightly at 7.
Jeff Sexton
Jeff Sexton, 58, of Hopkins Fork, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pikeville, Jan. 4, 1957, the son of the late Grover Sexton and Nola Sexton.
He was a self-employed carpenter and a man of God.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Buster Sexton; and two sisters, Roma Lou Purvis and Sherry Bryant.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Reynolds Sexton; one daughter, Melinda Taylor; two brothers, Grover Dean Sexton and Gary Scott Sexton; three sisters, Linda Tackett, Tammy Tackett and Betty Ann Sexton; and three grandchildren, Breana Taylor, Isaiah Taylor and Elijah Taylor.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 10, in the Indian Creek Freewill Baptist Church with J.R. Cantrell officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Dean Branham
Dean Oliver Branham, 61, of Raccoon, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County, June 17, 1954, the son of Lucian Branham of Raccoon and the late Avanelle Collins Branham.
He was a carpenter and a member of the Zebulon Church of Christ.
Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Derek Branham and Marcus Branham.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Jean Blackburn Branham; three children, Dekan Branham and Kerrie Branham, both of Raccoon and Brandy Branham Good of Belcher; four siblings, Tagan Branham of Millard, Shelia Blackburn of Raccoon, Missy Spears of Pikeville and Stacie Weddington of Kimper; four grandchildren, Santana Hall, Dylan Harris, Kylie Branham and Koydee Branham; and one great-grandchildren, Javen Lee Ross Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Shane Lockard officiating. Burial will follow in the Bent Ridge Cemetery, Meta. Arrangements are under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Eli Bullock
Eli Samuel Douglas Bullock, 3, of Lick Creek, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2015.
Eli was born in Prestonsburg, Dec. 30, 2011, the son of Shannon Douglas and Amanda June Slone Bullock.
Eli was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harold Douglas Bullock; his maternal great-grandparents, A.G. and June Slone; his paternal great-grandparents, Eugene and Emogene Justice and Harold and Opal Bullock; and his maternal great-grandmother, Estella O’Quinn.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Delbert Potter and Frank Crum officiating. Burial will follow in the Dow Brooks Cemetery, Draffin. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday with services nightly at 7.
Sendy Case
Sendy Case, 79, of Osborne Fork of Indian Creek, Virgie, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at her home.
She was born in Pike County, March 21, 1936, the daughter of the late Caleb and Lizzie Adkins Damron.
Sendy was a member of the Caney Creek Old Regular Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Case; two sons, Leroy Case and Milford Case; one daughter, Glenda Case; four brothers, Jim Damron, Reece Damron, Albert Damron and Charlie Damron; and four sisters, Rachel Damron, Mary Case, Dolly Tucker, Becky France and Alma Little.
Sendy is survived by three sons, Kalip Case (Ginger) of Penny, Noah Case Jr. (Shelby) and Edgar Case (Sharon), both of Virgie; three daughters, Linda Hall (Roy) of Virgie, Cristel Hunt (Dean) of Kimper, Donna Keene (Dewey) of Pikeville; one daughter-in-law, Julie Case Little (Milford) of Paintsville; three sisters, Myrtie Tucker and Nancy Tackett, both of Caney, Goldie Tucker of Paintsville; 14 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the Caney Creek Old Regular Baptist Church with Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial followed in the Case Family Cemetery, Caney. Arrangements were under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Eloise Chapman
Eloise Christine Chapman, 67, of Phyllis, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at her home.
She was born in Phyllis, Sept. 16, 1948, the daughter of the late Andy Adams and Brooksie Justice Casey.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Kimper Church of God.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Jefferson Chapman; one son, Kelvin Williamson of Phyllis; one daughter, Theresa Ann Miller of Phyllis; one stepson, Jeffery Chapman of Kermit, W.Va.; one sister, Geraldine Shaffer of Pioneer, Ohio; two brothers, Roger Casey of Virgie and Eddie Casey of Phyllis; five grandchildren, Courtney Belcher, Cameron Miller, Corey Williamson, Conner Williamson and Bentley Chapman; and two great-grandchildren, Addisyn Belcher and Bristol Belcher.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Robert Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Justice Family Cemetery, Phyllis. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Visitation is from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with services at 7 p.m. Thursday.
“Bob” L.
Coleman
Bobby “Bob” L. Coleman, 85, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, in Mount Juliet, Tenn.
Bob was born in Pike County, Feb. 26, 1930, the son of the late Trimble and Ruby Coleman.
He served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a chief master sergeant.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Maggie Coleman; one sister, Anne Marie Hamlin; and four brothers, Randal, Philip, Delbert, and Keith.
Bob is survived by two daughters, Diane Coleman (Mike Holt) of Mount Juliet and Pamela Zimmerman (Terry) of Smyrna, Tenn.; and two grandsons, Jason Aultman of Charleston, S.C., and 1st Lt. Christopher Aultman, Fort Bragg, N.C. He is also survived by three sisters, Betty Mason of Dearborn, Mich., Mary Coleman of Smyrna and Gail Lawson of Elkhorn City.
A military funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Nashville, Tenn.
