Gary Alley
Gary Gene Alley, 65, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Signature Health Care Center.
He was born Dec. 20, 1947, the son of Ogle Alley and the late Gladys May Alley.
He was a coal miner, a member of the Army Reserves, and a member of the Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church. Besides his father, he is survived by his stepmother, Eloise Alley; one son, Garith Alley of Manchester; one daughter, Anndrea Alley Burchett of Mt. Sterling; three brothers, Benny Alley of Louisville, Reford Alley of Virginia, and Bo Alley of Pike County; one half-sister, Linda Self; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, in the Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church with Barry Clark and Stacy Stepp officiating. Burial will will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Loretta Anderson
Loretta Anderson, 64, of Elkhorn City, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Elkhorn City, June 14, 1948, the daughter of the late Claude Adams and Nancy Dutton Adams.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Elkhorn City Heritage Council, the Elkhorn City Church of Christ and the Elkhorn City Church of Christ Ladies Auxiliary.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Anderson; one brother, Harold “Grover” Adams; two sisters, Barbara Price and Bluma Faye Gibson; and three brothers-in-law, Jim Anderson, George Anderson and Thomas Anderson.
She is survived by one son, David Anderson (Michele) of Fredricksburg, Va.; one daughter, Tanya “Tater” Crager (Bryan) of Pikeville; one sister Lois Wallace (Freddie) of Ashcamp; three brothers, Raymond Adams of Manassas, Va., Carl Wayne Adams (Erika) of Great Falls, Mont., and Charles Ray Adams of Elkhorn City; one brother-in-law, Harry W. Anderson (Brenda Sue) of Bean Station, Tenn.; three sisters-in-law, Georgia Anderson, Marie Anderson and Sharon Anderson; and three grandchildren, Chris Crager, Braden Crager and David Anderson Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, in the Elkhorn City Church of Christ with Jim Ed Belcher and Steve Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Elkhorn City Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.

Herbie Bailey
Herbie Allen Bailey, 54, of Pikeville, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, in Nevada, MO.
He was born May 11, 1958, the son of Ira Mae Damron Bailey and the late Herbert Bailey.
He had been a coal miner and was a member of the Victory Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two grandsons.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Tena Faye Shannon Bailey; five sons, Travis Lee, Donald Allen, Steven Shane, Steven Cory, and Jeffrey Ryan; four daughters, Tanya Marie, Cassandra Dawn, Ashley Leann, and Rose Marie; one sister, Wanda Louise Johnson; and 21 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Vernon Damron and Edgar McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Larry Barnett
Larry Barnett, 51, of Nicholasville, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Pikeville, April 14, 1961, the son of Larry Dale Barnett and Hester Ball.
He was employed at the Lexington Rock Quarry for 24 years and was a member of the Baptist Church
He is survived by his wife, Donna Barnett of Jessamine County; one daughter, Terrie Lynn Barnett of Nicholasville; two sons, Cody Barnett of Nicholasville and Jason Barnett of Wisconsin; four siblings, Ricky Barnett of Davis Junction, Ill., David Barnett and Michael Barnett, both of Nicholasville, Rocky Barnett of Kimper.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Dale Williamson, Danny Runyon, Dwayne Smith and Andrew Walters officiating. Burial followed in the Sartin Family Cemetery, Varney. Arrangements were under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
Barry Chapman
Barry Woodrow Chapman, 48, of Lexington, formerly of Canada, died Saturday, Dec. 22, in Tennessee.
He was born in Cincinnati, Aug. 3, 1964, the son of Douglas Chapman of Canada and Sadie Reed Chapman of Lexington.
He was self employed as a carpenter and was a member of the Sharondale Church of Christ.
Besides his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Ashley Chapman Bias of Gallipolis, Ohio; one sister, Carol Bobb of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and three brothers, Shannon Chapman of Sidney, Craig Chapman of Columbus, Ohio, and Kelly Chapman of Whitehouse, Tenn.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Elswick and others officiating. Burial followed in the Varney Branch Cemetery, Kimper. Arrangements were under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Harvey Coleman
Harvey Coleman, 81, of Marrowbone, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County, Feb. 16, 1931, the son of the late James Coleman and Virgie (Coleman) Coleman.
He was a coal miner.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Flossie Ratliff Coleman; one brother, Howard Coleman; two sisters, Margie Coleman Holt and Mary Coleman; and one great-grandchild.
He is survived by one son, James Coleman of Marrowbone; two daughters, Burma Turner of Robinson Creek and Kelly Blackburn of Elkhorn City; three sisters, Helen McGuire of Ohio, Ruth Ratliff Hylton of Marrowbone and Patty Lewis of Arkansas; five brothers, Doug Coleman of Wolfpit, Ellis Coleman of Alabama, Ivan Coleman and Jerry Coleman, both of Ashcamp, Ray Coleman of Michigan; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, in the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Harvey Coleman Cemetery, Marrowbone. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Andrew Crider
Andrew Crider, 81, of Brushy, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Signature Health Care Center, Pikeville.
He was born in Pike County, May 3, 1931, the son of the late Jackson Crider and Biddie Maynard Crider.
He was formerly employed by Ford Motor Company, was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Grassy Freewill Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Wade Crider, Bailey Crider, Chester Crider and Eugene Crider; and two sisters, Laura Vires and Poshie Thompson.
He is survived by six children, Robert Crider of River Hurricane, Brent Crider of Raccoon, Donna Lozaker and Alena Webb, both of Varney, Sheryl Ray of Jonesbourgh, Tenn., Wanda Stanley of Zebulon; one sister, Lottie Mae Vires of Ohio; one stepsister, Illie Mexico Blackburn Layne; 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in the Crider Family Cemetery, Brushy. Arrangements are under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
Michael Dotson
Michael Dwayne Dotson, 26, of Williamson, W.Va., died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
He was born in Logan, W.Va., Oct. 29, 1986, the son of Benny Dotson of Matewan, W.Va., and Shelva Dotson of Williamson.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Garley Dotson; and his paternal grandmother, Loretta Dotson.
Besides his parents, he is survived by two sons, Michael Dwayne Dotson II and Timothy Chase Jayden Dotson, both of the home; two sisters, Jennifer Dotson of Delbarton, W.Va., and Amanda Dotson of Williamson; his maternal grandmother, Jane Dotson of McCarr; and his paternal grandfather, Bradley Dotson of Pikeville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, in the Faith Mission Church, McCarr, with Pastor Jimmy Fields and Bro. Alfred Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Crabtree Cemetery, Ferguson Branch, Dunlow, W.Va. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Virginia Edmonds
Virginia “Jenny” Justice Edmonds, 92, of Pikeville, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Signature Healthcare Center, Pikeville.
She was born in Pikeville, Feb. 10, 1920, the daughter of the late Lucas B. Justice and Lula McCoy.
She was formerly employed by the Miners Hospital and Pikeville Methodist Hospital, and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Clint Edmonds; two sons, Danny Parsons and Billy Dean Parsons; six brothers, Charlie Ralph Justice, Bee Justice Jr., Lloyd Justice, Rush Justice, Wallace Justice and Hi Pauley Justice; and two sisters, Katie Bockway and Gustavia Justice; and one granddaughter, Gina Hamilton Fields.
She is survived by one daughter, Deborah Hamilton (Sammy) of Pikeville; one sister, Mary Marjorie Hogan of Beckley, W.Va.; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Morgan Chapman officiating. Burial followed in the Bush Cemetery, Boldman. Arrangements were under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Jean Grace
Jean Grace, 81, of Williamson, W.Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Karen Wright.
She was born at White House, Aug. 21, 1931, the daughter of the late William Sturgill and Laura Dane Harless Sturgill.
She was the longtime owner and operator of Stewart’s Drive-In, West Williamson, and retired in 2009. She was a member of the Bethel Temple Assembly of God where she was involved in various church ministries.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Frank Femia; three brothers, Howard Sturgill, Chester Sturgill and Harold Sturgill; and two sisters, Lena Sturgill and Ethel Sturgill.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen Femia Wright of Burnwell; two sisters, Peggy Kaplan of Lethia, Fla., and Donita Black of Naugatuck, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, in the Weaver Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va. Arrangements are under direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.
Donald Helvey
Donald Helvey, 69, of McAndrews, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012.
He was born in McAndrews, Aug. 19, 1943, the son of the late Alvin “Bo” and Fausatina Helvey.
He was a retired coal miner, formerly employed by Eastern Coal Corporation, and was a member of United Mine Workers of America.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Dwayne Helvey and Christopher Alex Helvey; and twin sisters, Mary Helvey and Martha Helvey.
He is survived by his wife, Madge Helvey of McAndrews; two daughters, Teresa Helvey Rowe of Kimper and Christy Dawn Helvey of Morehead; three brothers, Ronald Helvey of Canada, Johnny Helvey of Charleston, W.Va., and Bill Joe Helvey of Covington; four sisters, Darlene Hatfield of McVeigh, Linda Hatfield and Rhonda Leedy, both of McAndrews, and Joyce Womack of Ransom; four grandchildren, and one stepgrandchild.
Entombment was in the Mountain View Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Huddy. Arrangements were under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
